Had our father's day brunch here this year and had the greatest experience! Food was phenomenal. I shared the steak and eggs with my toddler and we both loved it. I wish the eggs were a bit more runny since I asked for over medium (but not necessarily wanted a sunny side). My partner had the chilaquiles which he loved. The pancakes were huge and fluffy. My latte was the right amount of sweetness and it came with a cute little dark chocolate treat. Best part about our visit was when my 3 yo spilled his water all over himself and the floor. The staff came to rescue so quickly and even helped with comforting my baby as he freaked out when the water spilled. As a mom that was everything to me. Booked a reservation for 4 pm on Sunday for 8 people. From the moment you walk in you are intrigued by the design and wood work they do. Very very cool ambiance and way to add a unique elevated vibe! When we got sat we were pleasantly surprised by it being happy hour and ever more excited when we saw they had $29 filet on the happy hour menu. Definitely the best happy hour menu we have ever had. Kelly our server was great. She was efficient and all of our food came out great. Most of us got the filet cause how could you not. The steaks were grilled to perfection with a nice char and perfectly medium rare on the inside. We also got the guacamole and elote as appetizers, both weren't my favorite but still good and fresh! The owner Alex introduced himself at the beginning and at the end he ruined it. Let's begin by saying that the location is great and in such a cute area. The place is very nicely decorated and my friends and i enjoy the piano music. We were having a great time. And our waiter was excellent. Do not come here if you are planning an outing with your girlfriends or if it is a business meeting because if you stay long, Alex will come to let you know that you have over stayed your time. Went on their tomahawk Tuesday and got a the advertised 40 oz tomahawk, wasn't bad quality meat just very bland and not cooked to the temp asked. I would estimate around 16 oz of meat that was actually served. A lobster add on was ordered a the steak and it was not good quality and also so bland lmao. Also got the smoky Mac and cheese which was probably the worst Mac n cheese I've ever had from a restaurant, the noodles felt like they were undercooked and sauce was bland and for the price it was I was definitely disappointed. We were here early on a Friday afternoon for early dinner and we loved our experience. All members of the crew were friendly and warm and welcoming. Our server was attentive and upbeat but not hovering. The ambiance is very cool but still comfortable and inviting. We had the queso fundido as a starter and it was good but served with soft tortilla which was different. The signature Phoenix cocktail was generous and tasty. For entrees the Ribeye and the new addition white fish. Both were excellent. We also enjoyed the REAL flan and the dulce de leche volcano for dessert. We came here with our two friends for a nice dinner out. I loved how easy it was to make reservations online. We were promptly seated and the set up is beautiful. The ambiance is a tree theme with lots of original wood and low lighting. Some of the decorations are unique and modern but still cool! Our waitress was very sweet and attentive even though we were slow to order and she paced her timing to the table well! They have a large wine list and cocktails. I wasn't huge on their cocktails, none of them were truly sweet. And of course, a lot of tequila, which I don't fancy. The food offered is a mix of southwestern style and steakhouse. The entries with meat were ala carte and quite pricy. Especially for not coming with anything like veggies, potatoes, or anything. It came with a small side of onions. They had a nice selection otherwise. I had the steak tacos which were phenomenal. The tortilla was cooked with melted cheese, kind of like a quesabirria. The steak was deliciously seasoned but each taco (4) came with one large slice. I would have preferred them to cut it up as it was chewy and hard to take a bite from the taco and not take the whole piece of meat. There was cilantro of course and on the side was bone marrow, which added AMAZING to the top. What an interesting, but delicious side. My friend had the salad, which was HUGE and looked amazing. My other friend had the burger, which he also really enjoyed. They did have non alcoholic beer and I forgot what my boyfriend ordered but we also had a side of the elote. The place was very unique as far as the build out and atmosphere, but the food was lackluster, especially for the prices they command there. I ordered the salmon which was probably a bad choice for steak restaurant, but it was no different than the salmon dinner I would've received at Cheddars. In fact, they said it would be crispy and seared, and mine came out mushy as if it had been poached. For a high end restaurant, I also found the staff to be rather juvenile and unprofessional and the delivery was long on time. Many steaks ordered at my table were not that great either. A cool interior doesn't make you high-end if you don't have the great food and service to accompany it. We noticed there were reservations all the way until 9:30, so we figured they were open until at least 10, leaving us plenty of time for a nice meal. We were still eating our food when a waitress came over just before 9 and said, "We're closing in like 3 minutes, if you want anything else, tell me now." We actually did want to try dessert, but we felt rushed and uncomfortable after that odd request. The food that we choose was bad across the board. The only thing that was truly delicious was the bean dip they brought to the table right when we sat down. The guacamole was bland, (most of the crunchy tortillas served were stale/tough) the ceviche was beyond chewy (probably over-marinated or poor quality fish) and therefore unappetizing to eat. We were most excited about trying the Barbacoa Regia. I had seen pictures online; what we received was not even close to what was represented in menu photos and descriptions. The meat was fatty, there were no salsas and no flour tortillas. I had mentioned when making a reservation that it was a birthday dinner, that was not addressed in any way. If Origen were a movie, it'd be a blockbuster--gorgeous set design, great supporting cast, and a star-studded bar scene. The place is spacious, beautifully lit, and the ambiance just gets it. We came here for my birthday, and the staff nailed it--smiles, prompt seating right at our reservation time, and service that kept the night flowing smooth. We started with the appetizer... the octopus, shrimp & atun ceviche. It was very fishy but good. I'm a ceviche lover but would say this one was just ok. For the entrees we had the ribeye which was delicious. Got the tacos with the bone marrow, also great!! The smoked broccolini side was also really good. Got the salmon on top of veggies as well and I do have to say the salmon was good but dry for my taste. It needed acidity so I borrowed a lemon from someone else's dish and put it on the salmon which made it better. Suggestion to the chef to include a slice next time. Now, why not 5 stars? Because somewhere in the kitchen, a plot twist happened. Two entrées made a surprise early entrance, leaving them sitting in the spotlight (and sadly cooling off) before the rest of the cast--aka the other dishes--joined the table. By the time the whole crew arrived, the first two were more "lukewarm drama" than "sizzling finale." OMG, I'm so disappointed with Origen. I thought it'd be amazing since it's a sister restaurant to Miel de Agave. I made a 7:45 PM reservation, and we got seated right away, but then... crickets! After 15 minutes, we waited literally 1 hour and 30 minutes for two steaks, and when they finally arrived, they were cold! I spoke to the manager, Elias, who apologized and took my medium rare steak to reheat. He brought it back medium well instead! Like, seriously?! OK, some confusion from staff. It's an event night, I get it. We're seated. We've already looked at the menu and know what drink and appetizer we want. Our server comes by with water after 10 minutes and says they'll return for our drink order. Then... they return 30-40 minutes later. We're looking around at people seated after us getting drinks and appetizers. Finally our server comes back and we put in the full order because we've now been here a while and are hungry. We repeat the drink order three times because the server keeps writing dirty martini instead of Johnnie Walker Black ok the rocks (there were no rocks by the way). The food came out appearing delicious and my partner absolutely enjoy his steak and cold potatoes. The enchiladas were good, but my steak... all fat and gristle. Basically, too tough to even cut through with the knife. Most of that was tossed in the trash. I never ordered a second drink because well, our server didn't return for another 45 minutes. This place is very pretty and aesthetically pleasing but they have a lot to work one. The biggest one is service. If you're going to charge that much, give people a good time... and more steak, less gristle. The live music was absolutely wonderful; I believe the musician was Ms. J. Lopez from Chicago, and she truly enhanced the atmosphere. Unfortunately, our overall experience was negatively impacted by our waitress (name unknown, red hair), whose service was below average. When we were seated at 6:00 PM, she was only attending to one other table yet appeared disorganized and constantly moving back and forth. It took about 15 minutes before she approached our table, and when she did, there was no introduction, no enthusiasm, and no effort to take drink orders or ask if we had any questions. We repeatedly had to get her attention for basic needs, including ordering a second beverage and clearing plates so our food would fit on the table. The décor and ambience is beautiful and if you come at night there is definitely a romantic vibe if you are having date night. There is lovely patio and also a small glassed in sound proof dining room in back which is about $100 to reserve. Drinks are steeply priced and small and most wine has to be ordered by the bottle. Now for the experience. Our server was friendly and nice but nothing like the gentleman at the next table over who seemed to be more personable and interactive. I had a few questions about the menu and this is where things started to get interesting. We had mentioned to our server we had looked up the restaurant online and saw pictures of certain dishes and our waitress quickly stated that the presentation has changed several times and some things online they did not even have. I was also looking forward to the beans and tostada chips that were suppose to be complimentary but never received. Maybe that was another change? We ordered the Queso Fundido with Short Rib Barbacoa to start and it was delicious and came out pretty quickly. For our entrees, I opted for the Angus Prime Tenderloin and added a side of Smokey Mac and Cheese and my husband went with the Picanha Steak Tacos. The entrees came out a little lagging but my Tenderloin was marinated nicely in a Cabernet Savagean and the Mac and Cheese had delectable flavor that was cheesy goodness in your mouth. My husbands tacos were good but sadly he stated the appetizer was better as far as flavor. Overall, it was a good meal but was it enough to want to come back. The lack of consistency between what is featured on-line and actually offered is a turn off. Also, a basic drink alone is almost $20. Given the price point I would have expected a little more wow. A hidden gem that apparently just opened a couple weeks prior to our visit. It did not show at all. The atmosphere is perfect for a date night or a group outing. The staff and servers were perfect. They were there when needed and left us alone when we wanted to talk. The food was phenomenal. This is a really cool venue. It is totally hidden in an unassuming shopping area. We actually wondered if they were open when we pulled up. The food: House made tortillas with refried beans and served with three house made salsas. Every thing was better than the previous. This place has been open for three weeks, as we were told, and we were asked for our patience as they work out some kinks. For instance, about three other tables were seated after us, yet they received the complimentary bean dip before we did. When you walk in, there are tables placed immediately in the entrance. In my opinion, removing at least 2-3 of these tables would be ideal, as the space is very cramped. It's hard to walk by without getting uncomfortably close to diners who are already eating. We ordered several items to try a variety of dishes. Overall, the food was good, but there wasn't a single item that stood out as exceptionally delicious or something that would bring me back. I also found the food to be pricey, and I believe you're paying more for the experience, as the restaurant itself is stunningly beautiful. If you're looking for an upscale dining experience, this might be the place for you. I would suggest that the tacos be sold individually. Currently, there are three options for tacos, but you can only order them in sets of four or five, all with the same protein. The burger meat was good and had a unique preparation, as it included bacon within the patty. If I had to highlight a few standout items, I'd say the fries, the bean dip, and the habanero salsa were the most memorable. The music was not too loud, and they had a nice variety in their selection. It was a very enjoyable choice overall. This was just my experience. The only reason for 4 stars was we were told right as we were about to order, was that the food was shareable style. The food comes out as it is ready not all at the same time. This restaurant is soooo pretty inside, nice lighting and decor, I really like the cozy feel it has and plenty of sitting inside and outside. My server was super helpful and I ended up ordering the Origen salad which was so unique as it had watermelon it in, soooo delicious. My party also ordered the salmon and all in all everyone was satisfied. Loved the place and can't wait to try other menu items very soon! read more
