Would not recommend for brunch. Talk about false advertising. We ordered 4 different things and none of them looked like what they had presented on their own website except for maybe the quesabirria. I've attached a photo of their pancakes presented on their own website vs what I got. Underwhelming. Pancakes tasted like they use a mix and the jam tasted super artificial and had no bacon. The Barbacoa Regia on their website presents with different sauces and tortillas. Was not the case. The Northern Style Tostada "Garnished with golden potato strings" was actually thick cut fries on the side. Everything was very much so over promised underdelivered. Was wayyyy over priced for what it was. I've heard good things about their dinner menu but do not go to brunch. read more

We had a great experience at Origien Gilbert. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the table settings added a nice touch to the overall ambiance. The pork shank was outstanding -- the sauce was rich and flavorful. We also tried the birria, which was excellent. We decided to go back to the Origin for a second chance because our friends really like it there. There was four of us this time. Unfortunately, the service and steak weren't any better. We waited a while just for water and for someone to come to the table for drink orders. It was strange because there were many open tables, but people were turned away and told they were booked if they didn't have a reservation. When the server finally took our dinner order, we explained how we wanted our steak medium well (slightly pink, but not red or bloody). We waited a while before getting our food. Once again, we got a red bloody steak! It was between medium rare to rare! I can't eat steak like that. I guess if you want it cooked more at this restaurant, you need to say extremely well done or tell them to burn it because they clearly don't understand how to cook a steak. I would have said something to the server, but she never came back to see how our food was. Luckily, I still had the cold mashed potatoes to eat and mac & cheese. She completely disappeared after taking our order until we were ready to box our food. As the server was clearing the table, she spilled some steak juice (or whatever was on our friend's plate) on our friend's back. The server offered soda water, but our friend didn't want to bother with it. My husband and I gave it a second chance as the owner encouraged us to do in his response, but sadly the experience and food weren't any better. The service was super slow and a long wait for water, wine, food, boxes, check, etc. We were all ready to go, since we were there for a long time. Once again, we will cook our leftover steak and have warm mashed potatoes at home even though the restaurant should have done that for us. Wow. First the ambiance, the ten year old nerdy geek in me says if he had a million dollars this would be what the inside of my treehouse would look like. The mature adult in me thought if Mexico had a mountain ski chalet this is what it would look like. We started at the bar with cocktails. The wife had the hibiscus mezcalita and she raved about it. I got the Phoenix and even though I'm not a tequila guy this was a refreshing summer drink. We started with the rustic guacamole and it was fresh, creamy and smooth. A perfect appetizer. The wife got the ribeye and I went with the short rib steak. Both were cooked perfectly. It was very tender and seasoned just right. I'm a sucker for a good chimichurri and there's was outstanding. The steaks also came with three sauces, a salsa Verde, a habanero sauce and a pineapple salsa. All three were outstanding. The habanero sauce had a heat that was just right. Gave me a nice burn but could still taste the other ingredients in the sauce along with the steak. The pineapple salsa was a nice taste of sweet (without being too sweet) and savory and the salsa Verde was just perfect. Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes. read more

This is the second time we have been here and I have to say it's one of the best steaks I have had in AZ. The service is amazing especially our server Erin. It's artistic but not too fancy where you feel out of place dressing casual and doesn't feel like a chain or like they are cramming in too many people. Aria was a fantastic waitress. The food was good. Got the Barbacoa and the Tacos Banados. You need to ask for salsa on the side as it doesnt come with the tacos. As an appetizer we got the refried beans with chicharon but wasn't sure where the chicharon was. Music was a little too loud but overall ambience was good. I had dinner here with friends recently. We loved the look and ambiance in the restaurant. I made reservations which was a good idea because they were busy. 3 friends split the tomahawk and I had the skirt steak. The tomahawk went over well but my 3 friends that split it said they wouldn't order it again, they'd order something else next time. They did say it was good. My husband and I met some friends at Origen for drinks, and it was a lovely experience! The restaurant has a super cute and cozy vibe with great ambiance, both indoors and outdoors. We sat outside, and the heaters made it comfortable even on a chilly evening. The staff was friendly and attentive, and my whiskey sour was fantastic. I'm not even sure where to start. We had 6: 00 reservations. We originally planned to try this out with our friends right after it opened, but our reservations were cancelled due to a fire. We finally had an opportunity to return. We arrived before our friends. My husband loves gin drinks and ordered the one with Empress. Nope, the bartender said they were out of it. Ummm... it's a featured drink and a common gin. Go to Frys next door and get some! We both ordered the December 2 cocktail but neither of us liked it. The bartender was not engaging and didn't offer any info about the menu. We had to stand up and wave her down to pay. She was not friendly nor helpful. Then we went to our table. Ordered a bottle of Flowers Pinot Noir, one of our favorites. Guess what? They were out of it. We got the Dao Cab instead. More on that later. We had a hard time with the menu. We weren't sure what the variations were. The server, Sebastian just said they were all great. He told us portions were large so not to order any sides. That is not true at all. We ordered the queso fondido app. It came with 4 street taco sized tortillas. They were wet with grease and soggy, we asked for more as there were 4 of us and they were so small. We had more cheese despite loading up the 4 tortillas. There was a $2 charge. The queso was thick and tough. We had to use the steak knife to cut it. Not kidding. We (each couple) ordered the salad to split. They would not split plate it. It was very good and fairly good size. It was probably the best thing we had. Our friends ordered the burger and filet - both medium. I wish I had taken a picture. The burger was RAW in the middle. My friend ate 2 bites and was horrified at the raw meat. Her husband's steak was very well done. She had to ask 3x for ketchup for the fries (not exaggerating) . When the server finally returned with ketchup she showed him her burger. Said she couldn't eat that. He took it away but never offered an option like a different meal or a new burger. It was deleted, but she never ate!! My husband and i both had the filet. His was way over done. Mine was ok. Our bottle of wine... we each had a glass...went to pour a 2nd from The bottle.... There was a LIVE FLY floating around in my glass! We showed the server. He got the fly in a napkin. But the remaining $95 bottle of wine we couldn't drink. We didn't have new glasses and I felt like being sick...it was so disgusting. We did order dessert ---the "lava cake" I'm not kidding -- it was MAYBE 4 bites. It was the tiniest thing I've ever seen. Our bill was $275+ per couple. We will not be back. So disappointing . The food and service did not match that price point. This place will not survive unless there is major overhaul . No manager came to see us. Other than removing the burger off the bill, nothing was done about all the other issues. LIKE A LIVE FLY FLAPPING ABOUT IN MY WINE ! I hate leaving bad reviews, but this was too much $$ not to. Some food was good and others just okay ... we had appetizers... Brie, guacamole, and queso fundido. Our table was so big we couldn't even reach the middle where they set everything ... maybe consider a lazy Susan. Dinner... had Caperi fish.. just okay; NY York strip was very good; Barbacoa not real thing unfortunately so just okay; tacos de filet were tough and not worth price at all; skirt steak lorenza was tough and sides were never served. Desert of gelato scoops took 20 minutes!! The restaurant has an unusual decor which we liked. But food, service, etc does not equal price. We were there like 3 hours and spent over $700. Considering the price point, I would have expected much better food favor and food temperature. Huge menu and lots of variety: pasta, enchiladas, steaks, tacos, fish, burgers, tostadas, chicken. More than half our meals were cold like it had been sitting for a while before we were served. Kids meal was $17 and the fries were not fresh, reheated or possibly over fried to be that dried out. Service was super slow, friendly and helpful but slow. Sunday evening with a reservation for 5:45 and it took 2 hours to order, eat and pay. Ambiance is great, classy, perfect for a date night or business outing. It's 0% chance I'd go back for a mediocre $350 meal. The bathroom door does not latch and lock properly. Not sure a deadbolt into drywall is the correct means to locking a door. No changing table in restrooms either so not necessarily baby/toddler friendly. read more

I dined at Origen for a friends birthday this past week. We were a party of 12 and the restaurant was practically empty for our 7pm reservation. We were sat off in a semi-private area, actually right near the bathroom entrance which was weird, at a long table surrounded by beautiful wooden planks extending up to the ceiling. Once we were all seated, our waiter Sebastian brought over 2 large bone marrow & carne asada taco boards stating, "the kitchen made the wrong item but here you guys go!" Those tacos with bone marrow were probably the best thing on the menu and I should have just gotten that as my meal. When preparing to order, our server was very knowledgeable and gave strong recommendations about the food speaking about his personal likes and what was recently changed; this I appreciated. I proceeded to order wine and, upon making my selection, I was informed it was sold out; a bit odd having visited at a non-popular time with a nearly empty restaurant. For our appetizer, I shared the guacamole with crispy pork with 2 others. The guacamole was ok and the pork defiantly saved the dish. When the app arrived to the table, tortillas were to accompany the item but only an empty tortilla holder arrived. When we informed our server, he apologized but it then took another 5-10 minutes to bring some tortillas...4 small tortillas for a whole plate of guacamole amongst 3 guys. Turning to the main course, I ordered the barbados and it was decent but very heavy. The dish was essentially served a la carte with no sides, just the meat and again the same 4 small tortillas. I proceeded to ask for salsa and a trio of salsa was brought out after, once again, 5-10 minutes. I also asked for extra tortillas as there were certainly not enough to eat an entire skillet of meat. Others in my party had ordered this and requested flour tortillas but they never arrived. Overall, the food was good, however, not necessarily worth the prices they were charging. Service wise, our server tried his best to accommodate us all but with a party of 12, you need more help. If he had more help everything would have, in my opinion, gone smoother. What got me was when it came time for the bill. One of us ordered a diet coke and it arrived in a can...for $4, with no refills. I questioned how any full service bar operates without a soda gun and why he was not served the drink in a glass from the soda gun. Another thing that struck me was the 4 small extra tortillas that I ordered, I was charged $2 for this. You would think with a party of 12 things like this would not have been charged but to say the least I felt nickel and dimed. Questioning whether I would go back to Origen, maybe but probably not. It is about 30 minutes from me and factoring in the food/service/cost, this is a big stretch for me. If they were to improve their service, reassess their pricing, and ensure they are fully stocked I would reconsider but at this time no. read more

The $26.00 tacos were greasy and again underwhelming. Did I mention they were GREASY! We dined on a Tuesday and we were the only patrons, food took quite awhile to get. The service, hostess was pleasant, no complaints. On the other hand, server could use some work. We sat with no water during our meals. I had to flag her down to request a fill up. Getting a bill was also time consuming. Dining at this establishment for us is one and done. We came in expecting a quality, upscale dinner for two, but unfortunately, the experience fell short from the start. When we asked if one of their cocktails could be made virgin, our server didn't know--something you'd expect staff at this price point to be able to answer. We ordered the queso as a starter, which came out incredibly greasy and oily--not appetizing. The main dishes were mixed: the Birria tacos were solid and probably the highlight of the meal, but the steak was tough, overcooked, and came out lukewarm. Things went downhill with dessert. We ordered it specifically without the cherry compote, as I don't eat fruit toppings. It arrived with the compote--and a hair. The server did take it back and said it would be remade, but what came out looked like they just removed the fresh raspberry garnish while leaving the cherry compote on the plate. After waiting another 15 minutes, we gave up and just asked for it to be removed from the bill. At that point, our server seemed personally offended, and it took another 15 minutes to "find a manager" to approve the adjustment. For a $173 meal for two, this should have felt like a polished, thoughtful experience. Instead, it felt careless and unrefined. This restaurant has a long way to go before it lives up to its pricing or promises. read more

My sister and I went here and we ordered the guacamole. And bone marrow. Everything was very underwhelming and expensive for the quality. We had to add salt and extra lime to the guac and bone marrow. The guac was just mashed up avocado with no flavor. The tostada chips to pair were just meh. We were so shocked with how terrible the service we received was, or lack there of. We waited 20 minutes before getting asked for drinks. When our food arrived, we didn't have silverware or plates to eat from. The service we were provided was mostly from the bussers and food delivery folks helping out. Our server was not really around or engaged to check in. For guac, bone marrow and 2 drinks our bill was $75 plus tip. We wanted a good experience and we did not get that at all. I will not be returning unfortunately. The live music and ambiance have this place the 2 stars. Overall I think this restaurant has some areas of improvement for me to feel the price matches the quality. Highlights: good atmosphere, cool looking restaurant, tostada chips & salsa were good. Bone marrow was very rich & delicious. Improvements: The evening started with a table 6 that had the evening sun hitting on the face of the head of the table. They knew it wasn't a good seat as soon as we sat down and immediately offered to move us - just poor table placement. The table we moved to was a very large round table, so big we couldn't easily share appetizers without standing up to pass/reach dishes, and it also strained any conversation we might have had together. Secondly, the music playing would be great for a family bar-like environment, maybe an Applebees. But this is a high end Mexican-inspired restaurant. If you insist on radio-hits music, maybe play some Mexican pop to at least get the vibe right - Mon Laferte, Natalia Lafourcade, Mana, Zoe, Julieta Vinegas...... just to name a few in hopes someone reads this. The food had some issues. First off, I can listen to the Trolls soundtrack playing overhead, but I can't get my 6 year old a kids meal even though they offer things like cheeseburgers, Mac n cheese, and Alfredo pasta for the "adult children" who come in. In addition, not all ingredients are listed on the menu, so when I got my son the $26 adult cheese burger where we specified meat and cheese only, and the waiter confirmed 4 times meat and cheese only, I was a bit miffed when it came back smothered in spicy mustard. The waiter did try to fix it but the replacement burger never arrived and I was told the kitchen was "too busy serving other people" that it would be even longer. Mind you, the rest of us were pretty well done eating before I was told this. Even the waiter knew it was excessive and said "you'd like me to just cancel it, don't you." By all means yes, cancel the burger since you're also in the process of getting our table to-go boxes. I had high hopes for the picanha tacos but the meat was so tough I struggled to tear it with my teeth. The bone marrow was on point! On the other hand the barbacoa was tender. The downside was it was incredibly fatty, which is just not indicative of authentic barbacoa. At the end of the day there was a lot of the menu I did not get to try & I blame most of my experience on service, whether it was table seating, food quality, communication between wait staff & kitchen staff, and so on. I ultimately would like to try more, but $400 is a bit much for trial & error experiences. I think if the restaurant can get a bit tighter with service alone, I could see coming back here again, but for now will sit back & watch for a bit. read more

Let's start with the positive... Our server was fantastic, the decor and vibe is awesome and the appetizers were great. Now the negative...Very over priced for the quality of food served. Most dishes are $50 and they are supposed to specialize in steak HOWEVER they are serving the worst and probably the cheapest cuts they can get. Then they slice it thin (my guess) to make it less obvious. All 4 of our entrees had steak and all 4 were thin strips of fat and hard gristle. Honestly not one good piece in the dish. It also was not hot when initially brought out. The complimentary tostadas n sauces were very good. My husband enjoyed his pork dish. He originally ordered the filet but they were out of them. A Saturday at 6p and they were out of Filets. Also note that these meals do not come with any sides. That is all ala carte. Overall I feel like they still have A LOT to work on. I can't say I will be back for dinner as their prices do not match the food quality but I can see myself returning for happy hour at the bar. read more
