First, the service here was great. It started with beakers of broth, and learning what we wanted right away. Later, our server had a leaky wooden platter that almost dripped on me. She reacted quickly, avoided disaster, apologized, cleaned up the mess, gave extra napkins, and comped me on my drink. Our steaks were absolutely delicious, our pasta was al dente as we like it, and our fish was perfectly flaky and moist. Compliments to the chef, except for failing to spot the platter crack at the pass. Parking is easy and plentiful. 4 dinners, 3 drinks, an appetizer, and a free birthday flan were $280 with tax and tip. Not cheap, but worth it for us. BTW, we're seeing more AI electronic wall displays, and BLU is no exception. In all honesty, I didn't want to be here. So this review may be a little biased as I really didn't feel like leaving my house. My wife and mother-in-law got a hankering for heading out for lunch on Saturday. Suffice to say I wasn't allowed to sit at home and be lazy. So we came here with along with my brother-in-law. We arrived at what I could guess was just after the lunch rush. So it wasn't very busy in there, which was nice. The restaurant design itself was somewhere between sheik and beach rustic. Almost looks like they were going for an upscale look but feel just short of it. Still a nice place. I am cleansing so I couldn't drink one of their crafted drinks but my mother-in-law really liked hers. It was a pineapple juice and mezcal drink. Per usual, my mother-in-law and wife ordered the oysters to start. This was the first disappointment. They didn't really care for them and it came with what was basically a BBQ sauce. We ended up having to ask for just plain horseradish on the side so they could get through them. I ordered the tuna tartar and ambar wings. The ambar wings were ok. They sauce was sticky and sweet. I was hoping for a little heat, but it didn't have anything. The tuna tartar came on a bed of guacamole that sat in a pool of what I could only guess was soy sauce or some mixture of. The tuna was fresh so that was a plus. The guacamole in the soy sauce didn't really speak to me. The guacamole kind began to melt into the sauce making a whole other sauce that just wasn't working. I had to speed through the tuna just to make sure it was done before the sauce and guacamole were to mixed together and ruined the tuna. I would have preferred the soy sauce mixture on the side. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals but no one really raved about their meals. This was a fine enough place. Maybe if I was in the mood to be out and about I would have enjoyed it more. The restaurant was not very busy on a Wednesday night, so it was nice and quiet. We ordered our appetizer and it came out quickly before we ordered our entree. Hubby and I have been here a couple times before and really enjoyed it. It's got a great atmosphere with lots of hanging plants and basket light fixtures. It seems like a very kind of organic earthy atmosphere. There's a bar to one side and outdoor seating, although it was way too hot for us to sit outside. I love that as soon as you arrive you are brought a cup of hot, spicy fish broth. It's actually quite delicious. Our server was very patient with us I was meeting up with an old friend. We would not see each other in a long time and we were just talking and talking. He kept coming back to see if we were ready to order and was very sweet telling us to take our time. Either of us was very hungry and I had early dinner reservations so neither of us wanted to eat very large portions. My friend got the shrimp cocktail and I got the Mango Blu Ceviche. Both came with crispy corn tortillas to scoop our food on to. While I have always loved everything I've eaten here, this was the first time that I got the Mango Blu Ceviche. We needed to sit on the patio as we had our dog with us, and from the beginning our server was great (unfortunately I can't recall his name). When I walked in I didn't see any hosts, but our server walked by and got us seated quickly. We decided to try this on a Thursday night, I think the restaurant is still relatively new. We ordered the Guava Breeze and the margarita. The guava breeze was delicious but the drinks did take quite a bit and there weren't that many people in the restaurant. We then got the surf and turf and the president tacos. The surf and turf was a huge portion (great to share) and was all really good, the lobster was cooked a tad too long but other than that it was really great. The tacos come with 2 tacos à la carte but they are huge and these ones had amazing flavors. We ended with the Nutella stuffed churros and ice cream which were perfect. Our fist round of drinks took a while to come out as our server was also the bartender. She was very good though for the capacity she had to work. Our server, Alondra was FIRST CLASS!!! Took great care of us & checked on us regularly with a smile. We had a small issue with one of our orders, the Halibut was waaay overcooked but she handled it quickly & the new order was perfect. I ordered Chilean Seabass, which came with a side of Parmesan creamy potatoes & salad. The salad wasn't crisp/fresh but the rest of the meal was good. We also ordered a Tempura Shrimp/Calamari appetizer & the calamari was a little over cooked but ok. Before our meal came out Alondra had a small cup of a soup broth sample sent to our table that was good but could use a little less salt. The broth is used in their Pozole soups, & has a lot of flavor & is a good choice if you're looking for something to warm you up :) I think Blu Seafood is a new location, so I plan on visiting them again & doing a second review because I think they are in the stages of fine tuning there restaurant. It was a Thursday night and not busy at all. When asked for recommendations, our server named like 10 random things on the menu . Someone may want to teach her how to upsell a couple nice items. We ordered a couple appetizers and drinks and then discussed what we were going to eat (we like to share so everyone has to be in agreement lol). The server came back several times...she could have given us a little space. The kicker was about 10 minutes after we ordered she came back and had to retake our order because "something happened with the system". Food came out pretty timely and, as mentioned, was good. The server kept coming back though...a little space to enjoy the meal would have be nice. We were celebrating a birthday so the birthday boy got a complimentary Flan which was great. My friend and I tried Blu Seafood for an early dinner on a Saturday evening. We had gotten a reservation, although it was early, so it probably wasn't needed. They have a big bar area on the right when you walk in and some patio seating. We were seated inside immediately upon arrival. Our server came by to drop off some fish broth as a complementary sipping treat while we looked over the menu. We ordered sodas which were also brought out quickly. For our meals, I went with the Cesar salad & crab cakes. My friend ordered the Chilean sea bass, which was pan-fried, it was served a top cheesy mashed potatoes, and a side of mango pico and a side salad. The crab cakes were nice and crisp, but not particularly too flavorful. The dipping sauce helped but I think the breading could've used more salt and seasoning. My friend said her dish was good, but the side salad was missing dressing, which they brought out later. We ordered churros for dessert to end the meal. Those were good but quite sweet with the chocolate filling. The churros come with ice cream, which they forgot to send initially & was brought later. Overall, so-so experience. Saw this place on instagram and it looked good. We drove over 60 miles to try this place and were disappointed. It started with the hostess. When we walked in, she just stared at us. We stopped for a moment to take in the restaurant and she never addressed us. Not a "how can I help you" or "how many". She looked at us like we had 3 heads. I spoke up and asked if we could sit at the bar. Luckily the bartender was very attentive and salvaged our initial experience. We had oysters, they were quite large. Limes came with the oysters which was new for me ad they were fine. But no minonette, or tabasco or horseradish. There was a house sauce and it was more like a barbecue sauce, did not complement the oysters well. Someone in our party got a burrito and he ate the whole thing so it must have been fine. He also ordered the crab cakes which were deep fried. Another person in our party ordered their shrimp ceviche, it wasn't anything spectacular. But it got a little spicy for her and asked if they had any bread. The bread came out quick and they were small toasted slices. She said the bread was great. After an event last Thursday, a group of us decided to stop in here for dinner. It's a new place that I never heard of until that evening. We were greeted and seated right away. Waiter was quick and attentive! He brought out complimentary cups of warm sipping broth called Jugo Bichi, which translates to naked juice. It was delicious and perfect on a cold night. I believe it was a fish broth with Ancho chilis? I can't really remember. I ordered the Guava Breeze with rum and for my entree, I ordered Shrimp Ajillo pasta. My drink was good but just a tad sweet. The pasta was good but I prefer saucy pastas. Everything tasted fresh though and the shrimps were a large size! We also got to try shrimp and fish ceviche. Those were pretty refreshing. As someone who loves seafood, I was very excited when BLU opened up in Cooley Station! Finally, I was able to come in and was very satisfied with our whole experience and meal. The location is perfect. They have a very nice outdoor patio and bar area. The inside gives it a nice ambiance. The restaurant itself is small, not a whole lot of seating, especially for groups. I would recommend a reservation to be safe (can be made thru Google/online). We came in on a Friday night, and it was busy! We had a reservation and actually got sat early, which was nice. The food was absolutely delicious. We started with the ceviche - huge portion and very fresh. For entrees, we ordered the Cod Al Limon and the Surf and Turf Burrito. Again, both were good size portions. The food was perfectly cooked. Very impressed! They do have a cocktail menu as well - the White Oasis and Mochate Maria are delicious. Definitely would order both again! Overall, we really enjoyed BLU and will absolutely come back again. The location is great and places to walk around if you have time to kill. The food is delicious and so are the drinks. Definitely give it a try! read more
