I finally got a chance to try this place out! Looks like Guy Fieri approved at the Phoenix location. I can also put my stamp of approval here! I had some excellent tacos!! So fresh and tasty! Each taco was full of flavor, marinated meat, and fresh vegetables as well. We tried the Pastor, Lengua, Calabacitas, Barbacoa, Tacos Chiwas, and Asada. No complaints from me on these! I also really liked that my lime was fresh and I could squeeze juice out of the freshly cut lime. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We did outdoor since it was a lovey day out. The mango margarita was an added bonus. They have some other fun drinks available. I also got the watermelon in a can! We ended with a Tres Leches carrot cake. This was not my favorite as it was just a carrot cake with the tres leches drizzled on top. The strawberry on top was old. Aside from that go all in on the tacos! You won't regret it! read more

I've been here many times, having worked in downtown Mesa until recently. This place is fast casual, where you order at the counter and they'll bring your food to your table. There is a great patio out front with seating along Main Street, right through the open rolling "garage doors." Inside there is A long bar, tables, and a lounge area with a sofa and coffee table. There is a nice mural and a wall with dried red chilis hung on strings. They used to have a drink fountain, but that's home. You now have to buy sofas in a can or bottle. I am not a fan of that because a) they are quite overpriced and b) I like drinks in a cup with ice. The menu is mostly different types of tacos and quesadillas, plus a few other things. I ordered an asada taco and Apollo quesadilla. Both are good, but this is definitely not my favorite place for an asada taco. The polo quesadilla was, however, delish. I truly wanted to love this spot because my friend REALLY hyped it up. But In my opinion, it fell short. I had an asada taco and found it somewhat bland and the pieces of meat I received were really chewy. I also ordered a classic marg that was overpoweringly sweet. For those who haven't been here, there's parking in the back of the restaurant and there's a back entrance to the restaurant so you don't have to walk around! Great pricing too! My friend and I always try to sit at the bar, where you can directly order from the Bar Tender. We are a creatures of habit and pretty much order the same things every time, the Street Corn, the Asada, Carnitas and Tripe Tacos. My friend loves the Picadillo (Ground Beef) Burrito. This spot was recommended by a friend, and it's become my go-to spot for lengua tacos. Theirs is one of the best I've had. The lengua is tender and flavorful. Squeeze some of the lime juice a little bit of their hot sauce, and I could eat 5 of them at least. This time, though, I tried it as their burrito. It was good but I prefer it as just the tacos. The beans in the burrito overpowered the lengua taste. Their Jamaica was sweet and refreshing as well. My friend got the asada, pastor and shrimp tacos. He said his favorite was the asada one. You just order from the cashier at the bar and find a spot to sit. It is small inside so when it's really busy you might have a hard time finding a place to sit, but worth getting. read more

It's a skip for me. The quesadilla was hot but the cheese wasn't fully melted, asada had 0 flavor, and tasted weird. The burrito had a whole lot for no flavor. I was disappointed their salsa bar only had salsas, chiles, and onion. And we had only limes with very little to work with. The food was mediocre, and just is not worth the price. The cashier was so rude and she copped an attitude for us speaking Spanglish, she had an AirPod in and asked us to repeat. She was annoyed and left us after we paid. Didn't tell us what to do or anything. Luckily we figured it out. The place is super small, but very eco friendly which is great. Areas to recycle and dispose of trash while reusing the plates. My go-to orders are always any of the gorditas (which are little Mexican hot pockets if you will--you pick your filling) and I would recommend the verde and the rojo. The tacos do not disappoint. Gotta say, not what I expected from Tacos Chiwas. The ambiance of the place was cool, has a bit of a different vibe than the one in central Phoenix, which we love. A few things missed the mark for me here, however. First, we ordered with the man behind the bar, he had a whatever attitude. Nice but didn't give a top tier customer service vibe. Second, I asked him if they could serve me a few tacos without the tortilla and he looked at me annoyed and said, "they're not going to let me do that". I asked him again to confirm, you can't just serve some meat on a plate? Because to me, that seems like it would be really simple. He said, "no, you can just eat your meat off the tortilla". I begrudgingly agreed and ordered them, but frankly, I should have just gotten the street corn, because I did enjoy that. I ordered a pastor taco, a carne asada, and the steak. Third, the tacos didn't have the same flavors as the one in Phoenix. Was a tad disappointing. My partner ordered an asada taco and a Gordita. They were ok and not anything to boast about. I was super impressed by this place. I just moved to Mesa and the buzz around town is these are the best tacos in the valley. I haven't been here for too long, but I gotta agree. Me and my husband got Lengua and Al Pastor tacos, even though it technically wasn't a pastor it was adobada, the flavor was still pretty tasty, it wasn't cooked on a spit like I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised. The lengua meat was high-quality wasn't too fatty or tough. It was perfect. The salsa was really good too. Nice and smoky sweet and spicy. Wow! Pretty dang good tacos! The price was a little steep for such a small taco ($3.49), but i totally understand the sad state we live in with a monkey of a president we have in office today. The pastor was my favorite taco! So much flavor! The camaron was also good, but it didn't have nearly as much flavor as the pastor. It's pretty much an order at the register, take your number so that your order can be brought out to you, pick your seat, and serve yourself kind of place, so it's super chill and low maintenance! The chicken was juicy, grilled, and seasoned perfectly! I think we've tried all the tacos by now-- all yummy. Had some sides- the beans and elote. Haven't had a burrito yet, but that's next time. Service is fast and casual, sitting at the bar is a must if you plan to have more than one round of drinks. That way you don't need to get back in line to order. The cocktails are very good! The Paloma is refreshing as expected and the Mexican whiskey sour was delicious last night. I asked what makes it "Mexican" versus any whiskey sour and they use a bourbon from Mexico. I didn't find out the name of it, but it was great. No sweet and sour mixes used here, they do it right- they use lemon and lime juice and fresh ingredients. That's why getting a Paloma, whiskey sour, or margarita is better tasting than other Mexican restaurants. The taco sauce, aka salsas, are also very good. Deep flavors and nice heat on the red one. Good tacos. The pastor had nice flavor - I went back and ordered a second one - my fav for sure! The calabacitas (squash) was really nice with the addition of corn for texture and sweetness. The lengua (tongue) was very tender. The barbacoa had good flavor - it was a little self lubricating (fat) but not that's not a bad thing! The carve asada wasn't my jam - something in the marinade wasn't for me but my hubby liked it. Salsa bar was at the back so we missed it initially, but figured it out.
