The carve asada wasn't my jam - something in the marinade wasn't for me but my hubby liked it. Salsa bar was at the back so we missed it initially, but figured it out. Ok this place is not hard to find at all it's just on the road through downtown Mesa. I will say that the looks of it are very trendy. It's fun, there's a bar, and everyone is edgy. If that's your vibe and you don't care about prices or food this is your place. The food wasn't our favorite. We got Al pastor, pollo, asada, and camarón tacos. The pollo surprisingly was the best! They do come pre dressed with toppings which some may not like though. It just wasn't it, flavors were good but nothing that felt authentic or that really made me want to come back. The salsa also was very spicy but not the most flavorful. The creamy green salsa was the best. The service was ok and quick. Also we got a carrot cake tres leches which was delicious and a side of beans which contained a mysterious hard chunk of some type of something??? I loved that the restaurant served gorditas because that's something I don't normally see at a place with tacos in the name. The Deshebrada Roja was fantastic and I also really liked the rajas gordita. The three I ordered made for a really filling lunch. I'd recommend trying both of the green salsas and the red salsa with your taco or gordita. The light green salsa has a kick and was so tasty. I'll definitely put more of it on my food when I come back. I loved that this restaurant had something for everyone with its large patio, bar, and indoor dining space. Came here for lunch on a Wednesday and there were a decent amount of people in the restaurant. I walked up to the counter to order my food and had to try the tacos chiwas because of the restaurant's name! I also got the chicken tacos. Had always heard good things about this place but had never been in until recently. My wife and I had our pre-teen niece with us and were meeting our friend from work. Looking at some Christmas lights down the way was on our to-do list but first we needed some food. Turns out this was the place to go. Lots of reviews with a high rating is always a pleasant sign. We walked in grabbed a place across from the bar, then realized we had to go to the register to order. Why did it take me so long to visit Tacos Chiwas?! We may never know the answer, but I'm glad I finally did. On this visit, I decided to get a little bit of everything: ($9) Pollo burrito, ($3) carnitas taco, ($3) barbacoa taco and ($5) deshebrada roja gordita. I was ready to settle in for the long haul because I really wanted their food. After standing there for about 10 minutes, not even a single Party had made it through the queue. Tacos Chiwas has been getting a lot of hype. When I found myself nearby with some time to kill, I decided to grab lunch. I hadn't been to downtown Mesa in a while and the block Tacos Chiwas is on is a whole trendy vibe onto itself. Despite clear signs I didn't quite get the whole queue at the front end of the bar to order. Like many taco places, I suspect the best options are reserved for carnivores, but there is a vegan option here. I ordered two shrimp tacos. The guy working the register was nice enough but not exactly helpful for someone who had never been in before. I noticed he was a lot more chatty with the male hipster clientele. An offer of a water cup would have been nice. Also, there's a drink station at the back with soda and such that I didn't realize was an option when ordering. i picked a table and enjoyed the chilly desert weather with the fire door open. it took about 10 minutes for my food to come out at a non-busy time. I came here the other night with family to start our night out. The building itself is kinda small for seating so be cautious it may be full. They have a couple couches in the corner for seating too. The line moves very fast and the service was really nice. I loved that even though it was busy our cashier still had a great attitude. The food came out really fast! It's not a super big entree so I recommend ordering a side too. The quesadilla itself was delicious though! The chicken was well flavored and packed in there pretty good. There is a salsa bar with three different salsa choices. I personally had the jalapeño cream which was spicy for me, but very yummy. The margarita was pretty good too, a bit more on the tart side but that's kinda expected with passion fruit. Next time I will try mango! Overall this place was a great experience. Now the food is mid and they changed the salsa roja recipe, I'm assuming to placate their new target customer base, YT people who can't handle spice/flavor. I completely understand that this company is doing great and has many new ventures, but they've sacrificed everything that made them great and I can literally taste that they've forgotten where they came from. We did not plan to come here but after two failed attempts on the same day to try their sister restaurants (one in Tempe and one in downtown Mesa), we ended up here knowing that we would get a good food. Guy Fieri was coming to town for his favorite Mexican food at Tacos Chiwas. So my wife and I decided to see what the hype was all about. We went to the Main Street location in Mesa on a Tuesday afternoon. Parking was easy as we found a spot right in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is dark with tables scattered around. They have their menu painted on the wall with no pricing and just below it there is an actual menu with pricing taped to the wall. My wife ordered a burrito and I ordered 3 tacos for $26. We sat at a table with our number tag and waited for the food. As we were waiting I noticed that people were getting hot sauce from a hot sauce bar. I went to get us some hot sauce. The cups they provide to put the sauce in holds about a teaspoon worth of sauce. No identification of the heat on each sauce. I got my sauce and put the lids on them for transport to the table. Because the cups were so small when you put the lids on the sauce leaks out onto the sauce bar making a mess. The food comes and neither one of us was blown away. Typical Mexican food. The beans were not homemade like our favorite spot Salsa Cabana on Greenfield and Brown. Sorry but Guy Fieri's tastes don't always work for everyone. read more

Great atmosphere and like the Phoenix location, you can buy alcohol. The tacos are top notch. I prefer tacos de tripa, tacos de lengua, and tacos de barbacoa.
