I hate to leave bad reviews, but sadly, we will not be coming back. We went for my wife's birthday and she ordered the surf and turf and spent 70 bucks. pretty much one of the most expensive things. Both the lobster and steak were heavily underseasoned and low quality pieces of meat. They remade it for us twice in both times were pretty much inedible. Our server was great. My critique is more to the cooks. We watched our server, go back and have to use Google translate since literally none of the cooks. Speak any form of English that already worried us. Seems like they cannot fix the problem after talking to her multiple times we will not be coming back. Pretty big disappointment for what they charge. read more

My/our first time at this wonderful eatery greatly exceeded my expectations. Our server, Dante (11 April/430 PM) was courteous, gave us a thorough review of the menu with recommendations, was extremely attentive and respectful, and gave our son (recent relocation to Tempe) some excellent helpful hints about the area. Blu Seafood is one of the newest additions to Verde! It is a Sonoran-based seafood restaurant offering tacos, tostadas, and more in a laid back but elegant space. They offer plenty of seating indoor and out as well as a full bar that is accessible to both the indoor and outdoor dining areas. Hubs and I decided to visit on their soft opening week. While there were a few minor hiccups, which is to be expected, it was clear that the staff was working hard. Our server was also apologetic. On to the food. They start everyone with sipping soup. Not sure what type of broth was used, but it was tasty and a nice touch. Then we ordered the following: Shrimp ceviche $15 BLU tacos $18 Fiji tacos $16 We actually ordered the classic (fish) ceviche but received the shrimp ceviche instead. However, we didn't feel the need to correct them. All their ceviches are marinated in lime and come with cucumber, tomato, red onion, cilantro, and avocado. It was fresh and delicious. Most of their tacos feature shrimp, and I opted for the signature BLU while my husband chose the Fiji. The BLU comes with two fried shrimp tacos seasoned with Caribbean pepper, topped with Chihuahua cheese, Alfredito's original famous sauce, and sour cream, all served on flour tortillas. The Fiji features two fried shrimp tacos with red onion and a sweet and sour house sauce on corn tortillas. Both were flavorful and unique. Tomas was our server, and his recommendations were in point. Not only was he extremely attentive, but also super helpful as this was our first time here. We started with a half dozen oysters which were super plump and very good. I got the Salmon En Nogada which is a traditional Mexican dish, and our food runner (may have been the manager?) gave us some background on this dish that was really neat to know- it's traditionally made with beef and to celebrate Mexicos independence with the colors of the dish (red, green) and OH MY GOSH talk about flavor. Hands down one of the best salmon dishes I've ever had. My husband had the ribeye aguachile and that was incredible too. Patio was great. Cheladas were good. Service was pleasant. Food tasted good... except they lost stars because of the poop shoots left in the shrimp. If you're going to remove the shell and butterfly the shrimp, why not take the extra step to fully devein them too? I had to do it myself because I refuse to eat that. The food isn't cheap either, so why do I have to do the prep work myself? I let the server know and she said the main chef was in house at the moment and she would let him know. No one came out to further apologize though and I paid full price for the dish. If I wanted to devein my own shrimp, I would have stayed home to cook. read more

We discovered this hidden gem in the Town of Gilbert in mid-to-late 2024 while strolling through the Verde Mall area--conveniently close to home. What a find! From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by warm, smiling staff. Back then, Elmer was running the bar at Blu Seafood Restaurant & Bar, and though he's now next door at their sister spot, Origen, the high-quality service continues. Over the past six months, we've had the absolute pleasure of being served by our bartender, Sabree. Who also happens to be the Asst. Manager. She's vibrant, attentive, and always knows how to tailor a drink to your mood. Her Hibiscus Sunrise is a must-try--and don't even get me started on her mojitos. Amazing. We've worked our way through much of the menu, and it's been a flavorful journey. It's been almost a year since we first came here and I will say we have indeed come back several times. I crave their shrimp tacos, it comes with four large shrimps, so sometimes I order extra tortillas and make a couple of extra tacos with it. Only negative is no diet coke, only coke zero....which is a zero. I wish they would at least offer the diet coke in a can. We were greeted and seated right away. They just opened so the interior is new/clean and I like the coastal modern decor/vibe of the place. There is a bar with a patio that opens up to the outside which is cool... Our waitress was really nice and answered any questions we had. She came back with a lil complimentary seafood soup that was delicious. At first glance of the front of the menu, you see the appies, pasta and pricier speciality dishes. If you flip to the back side you will find the tostadas, ceviches and tacos that are more budget friendly? Lols Upside down tostada- Kino Bay: of course I asked the waitress if it comes upside down?! Lols She said it just comes with an extra tortilla shell. I think the upside down part is unnecessary but no biggie it was delicious. The red sauce was flavorful and the seafood was good especially the octopus bc it was not chewy. I saw another yelper's pic of his same dish with an avocado but I didn't get any :( Dangy! Shrimp and pork belly taco - unfortunately the thin slices of pork belly were dried and overcooked. It also would have been nice if the tortillas were warm. Otherwise the flavor was good. I know a couple peeps wrote about the ikea silverware and while I did notice that too, that didn't bother me. As long as the silverware is clean and doesn't break while I'm using it I don't care where you get it from. I think what's more important is the food, service and cleanliness of a restaurant. Times are tough and things cost a lot so sometimes you gotta save money on certain things... One suggestion - if you could put a changing table in the bathrooms :) read more

**Extremely Disappointing Experience** We made reservations at BLU Seafood several days in advance for 7:00 PM on a Friday night. When we arrived, the host said it would just be a few minutes. After waiting more than 30 minutes, we asked for an update and were told that guests "should only be at tables for 90 minutes," but people were staying longer than expected. That excuse doesn't hold up -- it's not fair to blame customers for "sitting too long" when, as we later found out, many tables hadn't even received their food yet. It was clear the delays were due to poor management, not lingering diners. We went to the bar to order a drink while waiting, but the bartenders ignored us completely. After several polite "excuse me" attempts, one finally turned around, snapped at us, and said they were very busy and doing their best. We said we understood and just wanted a menu, to which she replied, "We're out of menus." Looking around, we noticed very few tables even had food. We spoke with a nearby couple who said they had a 6:15 PM reservation and had been waiting an hour and a half with no food yet. At that point, we left and went elsewhere. The entire experience reflected poor organization, unprofessional service, and a lack of accountability from management. We would not recommend BLU Seafood. Until they fix their management and service issues, it's not worth your time -- even with a reservation. read more

Food and drinks came out slow and when asked for recommendations our waitress was not helpful. I had fish tacos and they were very fishy, so much so I could only eat one. I mentioned the super bad fishy taste to our waitress. She said ok sorry about that and said she would send someone over. No one came and she delivered out check and picked out food plates up mentioning nothing. I didn't expect her to take my tacos off but I couldn't eat them and they offered to do nothing. I've tried this restaurant out over 4 different occasions. First time in, the food was good, service was standard and the atmosphere was nice. Second time in, the food was not good, under seasoned carne asada, there was shrimp poop in our shrimp. We came in for happy hour on a Tuesday and they weren't busy, and service was terrible. To get your water refilled was a mission. The cups aren't washed, and you can tell when you are served your beverage, our cups had some sticky residue on the rim. Third time in, we came in as a party of 15 and there was a reservation made beforehand. It was a Friday night so they did have more people in that day, it was busy. Our server didn't refill our waters, messed up our appetizer order, we didn't get our meals out at the same time, the kitchen looked lost, they were understaffed and the food was bland and cold. We were celebrating a birthday and ended up going to downtown Gilbert to another restaurant to have dinner. Then I went to pay my tab and I took over 20 minutes to get the waiters attention. Last time in, was over this weekend. Terrible, terrible service. It was a Sunday afternoon, small party of 4 adults and 4 children. First the hostess gave attitude when we asked for a table. Asking if we had a reservation, when we told her we didn't, she looked around, and mind you there was just one other family in the restaurant there. Secondly, they are understaffed and it shows, they don't have a system in place to keep this place running smoothly. They don't have food quality consistency, and overcharge for every little thing. They charged us the large party gratuity on a small party of 8. Last time we were in with a party of 15 they didn't charge up the large party gratuity. The employees are also not aware of there own menu, they have to go back and ask what is on the plates. Save yourself your money and go somewhere more established. For the price and quality of food you really are better off eating at tacos Tijuana or some other small mom and pop joint. read more

Server was ok, but shorted me a buck because he couldn't seem to find any single dollars in the whole restaurant and then waited as if he was expecting a tip. We had aps and drinks at Blu yesterday. The restaurant was beautiful and bright. The live music was so nice and not too loud. We sat at the bar. The bartender was attentive and very personable. He started us with the most amazing broth for the soups. We ordered Tuna Tartare and Crab Cakes (4). The Tuna Tartare was so flavorful and fresh. We sat outside, just 2 of us, it took more than 10 minutes for someone to greet us, that was ok for us, we were in no rush, but it showed a lack of service. We order a couple glasses of wine, they were out of the Chardonnay I ordered and also didn't have a presseco my wife ordered, frustrated, We picked something else, and moved forward with the menu. We ordered a couple appetizers, a raw tuna app over avocado and some stuffed shrimp, both very good, then we decided to order the Alaska Halibut, it was recommended by the server, we waited, and waited, it took over 30 minutes for this to arrive, and when it did, it was laughable, tops 4oz. Filet for over $40, it was dry, the broccolinni was cold, sauce cold. I went with the Guava Breeze, a very tasty combination of vodka, guava, passion fruit, and lime! After taking our orders, they brought out a sipping soup - it was unexpected, but a really nice and yummy touch! We had a shrimp ceviche and fish ceviche for the table. When we arrived, the table they wanted to seat us at didn't work for us and they were so accommodating to prepare a table that met our needs. I have mixed reviews for Blu, Ambiance nice, servers cordial, now food! We've had some good meals, and some not so good! Posole great broth, but not much else, hallabit was over cooked, sea bass as well, 3 of my guests returned their dish, they were not impressed with the seasoning. The food is good (Arizona needs a good fresh seafood place!) but it is understaffed and lacks a "system" for timeliness. My review is solely on the fact that I have wanted to try your restaurant and order a togo for my 88 year old mother who had a question on your menu item because she had an allergy. Online it states that you cannot guarantee the request. I got your AI voice assistant and asked the question which she couldn't answer. We tried 3 times to get a live person and nothing. That is a terrible business model, you obviously don't want to have interaction with people. Why have a restaurant? My girlfriend raved about this place so for her birthday I went on their website and purchased her a $100 E-Gift Card. She went to the restaurant to use the gift card for her birthday dinner, they didn't accept it. The assistant manager didn't know how to redeem it. They made her feel like she was the issue. Tried the seabass, cod and Rockefeller shrimp everything was extremely bland, dry, and portion were quite small.
