We have been waiting for this restaurant to open since Belly left. We never tried the other two locations before. We had a reservation and were told to wait even though there were numerous open tables. Walking to our table to the right of the hostess stand I noticed the floors were dirty like they needed to be mopped. Our server was very friendly and helpful with the menu. I was looking forward to the rhinestone cowboy tacos and I was told there was only one order left, exciting. When they arrived the shells were broken so it was difficult to pick up; there was so much crème I couldn't taste the caviar or anything else either. Also I had no idea the taco would be cold... We got the empanadas but did not care for them. We liked the table side guacamole and chips but for the little bit of guacamole... no. The final appetizer we ordered was the arroz chaufa and the rice was very dry. Went on a Friday Night with reservations which was a good idea. Very busy and so loud was hard to have a conservation. Started with the Mission margarita with Grand Marnier float. The margarita didn't have salt on the glass nor were we asked and surprised it'd be served without salt or without being asked. I'm a little doubtful that the Grand Marnier was really added. Table side guacamole was the highlight. We had the Caesar salad, which was very good and an awesome dressing and also the steak tacos. The steak tacos were smaller than street tacos, but the pieces of meat were very good but not much more than a tortilla with some tender steak on them. Service is very spotty. I'm truly so baffled as to why reviews aren't better here. My husband and I absolutely loved our experience and will 100% be back. We tried the table side guac, elote corn, steak tacos, cheesy rice, and pinto beans. All were absolutely amazing. Service was fantastic, everything came out at good timings and everyone was really personable and enjoyable to chat with. Well, originally I was going to go to Buck and Ryder because I had a gift certificate. However, I got there and there was an hour to hour and a half wait. So I mosey on over to the mission because I had never been there before. I sat at the bar and I had an absolute wonderful time! The Bartender was funny as all get out and I was able to talk to several guests at the bar. That part of the evening was fun. I ordered the salmon and it it was just OK. I don't remember being all that impressed with it. I'm not sure what it was missing but something was definitely missing. I know it needed more salt. I had to salt it pretty much to get any type of flavor. Let's just say that if I went back, I would not order the salmon again. It was quite disappointing and it didn't have as much flavor as I had expected. Would I go back? I would and I would definitely try something else other than the salmon. Food was really good. Everyone at the table ordered something different, and everything came out cooked well and very flavorful. My favorite was the porcetta with handmade corn tortillas. Major drawbacks were the music... while I did enjoy the throwback selection, it was way too loud. Which in turn made everyone in the restaurant talk louder, just adding to the noise. If we weren't celebrating something and wanted to try a new restaurant, I would have left and gone somewhere else just on the noise alone. The service was also extremely slow. The Mission has a cool vibe when you walk in, but unfortunately there is no place to stand while you are waiting for your table. The place was packed and we had a reservation, but it still took time to be seated. The tables near us had to watch people stand right next to them or look at butts. I would not like a table next to the door for just that reason alone. When we were seated, we were in a back room. The whole place is so loud, you can't even have a conversation. They continued to turn up the music, which just made it louder. The service was ok, but when I asked if the chicken street tacos were spicy, the server said no. She was wrong! I ended up getting the steak tacos instead, since I couldn't eat the chicken. They did get them out quickly, which was appreciated, since it took a while for our food the first time we ordered it. Also, when I ordered the iced tea, I asked for sweetener and it was not brought out at the same time. She forgot, but it took her another 10 minutes to bring it out to me. What we ordered: Corona Jidori Chicken Thighs - loved this because of how well the chicken was cooked and the "sauce" it came on Roasted Corn Gorditas - lots of flavor and texture on these 5 mini gorditas. The unique cream sauce was great Roasted Butternut Squash Tacos - it was good, could've been cooked a little more for softness Tecate Battered Mahi Mahi Tacos - very good! Cooked perfectly with the right amount of kick and flavor (all tacos come with 3) We also ordered a mezcal margarita and a Coke bottle. Also, got the pumpkin bread pudding dessert for our anniversary dinner which was recommended by our waiter, which was very good! Warm with a scoop of ice cream. The issues with service wasn't just on the waiter but it was overall the staff including the kitchen. They filled our water after appetizers arrived They brought out the grilled street corn instead of the corn gorditas. Took a bit to get the correct item out. Asked for paper napkins and that took a while to come out (mainly for the drinks as a coaster) Asked for a cup of ice when we ordered the Coke bottle and they didn't bring it out until we reminded them. They asked about allergies up front but the butternut squash tacos still came with avocado slices on each. We didn't mention no avocado when we ordered because it doesn't say it's on there. Took it off and ate it because we didn't want to wait for food again. Manager came and comped the butternut squash tacos for their mistake and apologized for that mistake. Our waiter did a good job explaining the food items and helped us decide the better option. The ambiance of the space is really nice. They did a really nice job redoing this spot and making it larger from the previous Belly restaurant. Would we go back? Maybe.. but we have many others to try before making our way back. Doubt they feed 2 people...wasn't going to find out for that prices but I would have bought them for $10 per street taco for myself because no one wanted to share. Waitress carries off 3 drinks from the table for refills...how do you think that will turn out in the return??? Guess we are all swapping spit now. But if you see how the waitress handles the pitcher...touching the lip of the glass...watching the straw bouncing all over the lip of the pitcher...no wonder I am sick as hell 3 days after eating at this place. I went in with a couple of friends just to have some margaritas. We decided to order the guac chips and salsa. Hayden was the one to come over and make our guacamole, he was super friendly, asked us multiple questions about how we would like it seasoned and flavored. Our server was very friendly as well. Crispy Chicken Torta was so delicious with a side Broccoli Sprouts. The sandwich is so big that I was only able to eat half of it. This dish was a recommendation to me by our server because it was my first time there and it did not disappoint. I'm very disappointed with my experience today. I have a gift card to the mission and called them in advance to confirm the gift card was universal between all locations. I was very specific about how the gift card read and I was told yes, when I spoke with the hostess. When the bill came out and I tried to use the gift card, they then told me that it was not applicable to the Gilbert location. I tried telling the manager that I had called in advance to confirm that it would be and felt as though he didn't believe me because I didn't get the hostess's name correct, but have the call record to prove it. We got the pork shoulder meal for 2. Saying it's for 2 is sure pushing it. We left HUNGRY. More than half of it was fat also. I would have to say the corn tortillas were amazing. The margaritas were good but very pricey for about half a cup, mostly ice. You could find better pretty much anywhere. I wouldn't stress if you can't get a reservation here. First impression the place is very, very nice. I like the atmosphere. The first drawback we noticed it was very loud which made it hard to hear each other. The service was really good. Ordered drinks from the bar that took a while to get out. Appetizers were amazing and came out in a timely manner. Entree took a very long time to come out. Manager was on top of it though and apologized without us calling him to the table. The entrees were phenomenal having no complaints. All four of our entrées were just perfect . Our first time at Mission, made reservations and were sat promptly. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and were surprised with a hand written card on our table. I ordered the Mission Margarita and it's one of the best margaritas I've ever had. We ordered the table side made guacamole which was very good and Hayden prepared it and was very personable. The ambiance was very modern, with back lit limestone brickwork, beautiful chandeliers and an astonishing bar with a large selection of spirits and affordable wines. My entree was the swordfish which was well prepared and a good portion size. Eva was our server, gave us great recommendations and was very attentive with clearing plates and refilling drinks. We chose the churros and milkshake for our complimentary dessert and it was amazing. The manager Layna stopped by our table and checked on us, sparked a conversation and was very friendly. Honestly was not impressed at all by this place. I'll be honest I hadn't looked at the menu or reviews prior to going. Walking out after my meal I doubt I'll go back; between the quality of the food, the interaction with the staff and what you get what you pay for really makes me wonder if their price point just reflects where the restaurant is vs the quality of said food. I really don't eat a lot. So my mother in law and I shared their Pork shoulder tacos and some chips and salsa to start. ( The amount was enough to feed 6 generous tacos. ) How it was delivered when explained enough to share it was disappointing. They didn't bring a spoon to dish out salsa nor silverware for dishing out the cilantro cotija and onions for toppings. Their tortillas served on a salt block while may look different and served for shock presentation was unnecessary and the tortillas were cold and undercooked. Also the waiter tried his best to imply the meat was super tender after cooking for 12 hours was entirely the opposite. I cook a lot, I cook a lot of Mexican food and pork shoulder. This meat was tough and dry and was clearly not cooked low and long enough. It would not shred with 2 forks. Barely would shred with a knife and fork. Flavor was decent. Their sauce reminded me of a sweet barbacoa/cafe Rio etc. Anyways. Loved the paintings on the wall and the seating was comfortable. But I'm gonna be honest not the best Mexican I've had nor best customer service experience. read more

I was very excited for the opening of this restaurant in the East Valley. I had a reservation for 2/20 at 7:30pm. I promptly checked in. We waited for 30 mins while every other group who arrived after us were seated before us even though we had a reservation. I checked the OpenTable app and it said the reservation had been canceled. I went to the hostess and asked if reservations are honored & explained that I had been waiting to be sat for 30 minutes and noticed that the reservation was canceled after I had checked in and waited 30 mins. The hostess said it must've been a glitch. Very disappointing. I reached out to the restaurant and haven't heard anything back. Until this location figures things out I recommend sticking with their other locations. Great food but service at this location is unfortunately lacking and not up to par to other locations standards. read more

First off, the place is beautiful. However, that's where the compliments end for this review. Party of four for two birthdays for brunch. Two ordered the Pig Off, one ordered the rock shrimp and the other ordered the Cuban. Appetizer was tableside guac. At $18, I expected more than a teacup sized portion. Also, I asked for the cilantro to be placed on the side--never provided at all. About 35 min into the seating, cubano was delivered, but quickly removed from in front of our party and taken to the next table instead. Waited 45 min for orders before deciding that the two who ordered the Pig Off should just get started. What a freaking disaster that was! We got in line and were told no tortillas were available and didn't know when they would be. Stood there waiting about 7 minutes before they brought some out. Toppings were either non-existent (limes) or barely any placed in the bowls (pineapple had about ten small pieces) and the cotija cheese was spilled on the table. Sauces were stuck in their spouts. Pork belly was either too crispy or way too fatty. Person serving it kept moving pieces all around to find a proper piece to serve. So much fat in them that I gave up eating it. However, the really awful part was--remember the Cuban that was delivered to our table that belonged to the next? Well, 50 min into the seating, we were told that they can't deliver the sandwich at all. So he chose to just go with the fastest resolution -- the pig off. He couldn't even eat it. This place is not at all ready for business. Manager attempted to make us happier by visiting our table but I told her the issues and I don't think she knew what to do. The server asked for our choice of birthday desserts and told us we could have a third for our trouble. Really? A third dessert for this cluster of a meal? Likely will never return and if you are still reading this and you truly want my recommendation---don't bother until they have been open at least six months so they can work out the quirks and get a good food purchasing agent who won't run out of important menu items--or at least train staff to communicate appropriately with patrons up front what's unavailable--not nearly an hour into the meal. Not at all happy with this birthday meal. Big disappointment! We should have chosen a different restaurant. read more
