Our party of 4 made a reservation for 6:30. We waited 30 min to be seated and were not seated until 7pm. The hostess provided us with very few updates during the 30 min. They could have at least offered us something to drink while we waited. When we were finally seated, our waitress was not very attentive, and took a while to take our orders, then the food took a long time. The table next to us ordered after us and had the same plates, but was served beforehand. Some of our plates were served cold. Once we finally sorted out the food and food temperature, the overall quality of food was average. This restaurant is more of a cocktail focused business, I would not go for the food. It's not every day that u find me at a cocktail bar, and boy was this bar hard to find!! We circled around the plaza about 3 or 4 times before we realized that we needed to ditch our egos and just ask somebody! Come to find out, we passed it a couple times without realizing it! True to their speak-easiness, there's no sign that this place actually exists, but u can find it by looking for the Crust Simply Italian sign. You'll see a few light greyish/beige doors with suite #s on them. Look for # 101, and u're in for a good time!!! The ambiance is perfect! Decor is very chic! I would hang out there for hours on end if they let me! Seats are very modern and comfy! The patio has a freaking amazing fireplace! Service was great and my drink, Mr Sandman, was a knockout!! Cocktails - can we say "WHAAAAATTT!!" Blown away. First, the service was superb! Naomi was professional, informed, kind, helpful, and classy. Now check this out: the bartender divvied up a custom cocktail shot/sample for us to try. What a sweet surprise! Our tastebuds responded as if they'd never experienced such deliciousness before! Blue Heron is one of our go-to local spots in Gilbert. The ambiance here is very moody and chill. Perfect place if you're looking for a laid-back night with great drinks. The Heron has quickly become one of our favorite go-tos mainly because of the service, but the speakeasy ambiance & music are great seconds. A number of their craft cocktails are excellent (Espresso martini with a splash of Bailey's & the Mango Marg especially), and the bartenders, Chris & Suede, are more than willing to try something new per your request. So this was supposed to have a speak easy vibe but just didn't quite hit it. Inside did have the feel but it also had a "patio" area they covered with blue canvass so that took the vide right out. No really food but appetizers .... Hate to say it but they weren't that good. The bone marrow was not meaty at all, the calamari just didn't have that taste and the batter just kept flaking off. There are now several speak easy establishments around The Valley, but this one is my new favorite! I love how approachable it is - no password required and you can enter from the outside or from the Crust restaurant. The cocktails were amazing, and the bartenders have been extremely friendly. And to top it off, the ambiance is very cute and quaint. The artwork is gorgeous and the seating is comfortable. The drinks and food are wonderful! The staff is great! But it's so loud inside that it's impossible to have a conversation without yelling.

Decor at the table was damaged ruining the "upscale" overall feel (table top light had a massive chunk out of it). The seating is much more crammed together than the website appears. When seated, staff scurried well ahead of us to point out our table. It took 45min to get our appetizer. They were out of their house selection for bourbon and their mixed drinks were not memorable. For a "speakeasy" it was lackluster, the food was more impressive than the drinks. (We tried 2 types of old fashion and 2 additional bourbon mixed drinks). We had hopped that it would be on par with The White Rabbit, but they aren't even comparable. read more

Took a date there for drinks... first impression was waiting several minutes for a hostess to show up for my reservation and seat us... the look and feel of the place is great but everyone has to yell at each other to talk over the loud music and that just makes the whole place even louder. Definitely not an intimate place to talk. Our drink orders were taken quickly but took 10 minutes to get 2 drinks served. The drinks themselves look and taste fantastic but the second set of drinks took more like 15 minutes to arrive. When I asked for the check the server instead brought my date a third drink that we didn't want, I'm assuming because she couldn't hear over the noise either. Great drinks but overall not impressed for the price. You can get great drinks at a lot of places but a speakeasy should be a place you go to for the atmosphere and Blue Heron just doesn't seem to have it. read more

Where to start?! First off, it's door 101!!! Me and my husband walked in right at 5 when they opened. We were welcomed by friendly staff and they let us know we could sit anywhere (we weren't sure since it was our first time) We opted to sit at the bar and was met by a super friendly bartender who chatted with us and gave us awesome recommendations. I forgot to get her name but she had on a black lacy dress and long dark hair! (If you see this your freaking awesome!!) Now onto the food, we ordered the mussels, chicken Parmesan, lobster ravioli, warm butter cake, and Terimaso. All of it tasted fantastic!! It was a nice sized serving and the bread rolls are drool worthy! Drink time!! We had the Rose (it's a longer name but you'll know what I mean) a blackberry drink, a glass of red wine, & the Last Mango! They were so yummy and had the perfect amount of alcohol. After all of this we ended with two cappuccinos. They were good and frothy and I loved the whole thing! The general manager also took the time to stop by, chat, and see how we were. We let him know he has some awesome people working with him and we really enjoyed our time! I will say the only thing that made it hard is knowing which door. Bill if you see this, don't do a bright neon light. Switch the bulb over the door to blue. Everyone will know but only if they know. It leaves a feel of mystery to your very awesome place! The food is as excellent. The service was great. The ambiance was unique in the essence that when you walk in the room it smelled like the sea. They also played a LOT of smooth jazz music. Great place for any looking for a fun night out on the town , a great place for date night or a new experience to share with your friends and family. Beautiful spot, great location, and the staff is fabulous. Wonderful craft drink menu and they also have an impressive late night food menu. The only thing I think they could really change is, the music. It was sleepy elevator music. I don't think it fit the vibe of the spot or the customers. Some nice R&B would be perfect. The Blue Heron. It's pretty. It's cool. It's pretty cool. It's a gorgeous speakeasy bar attached to Crust, and one of my favorite bars I've ever been to. The ambiance is comfy and fun. The service is always amazing and 10/10. I always see Tara when I go and she's the best bartender and server. She always makes perfect drinks, and spends extra time adding attention to detail to make them extra special (see attached photo of my espresso martini)! There is full service dining from the same Crust menu attached to the bar, but there are additional specialty cocktails and drinks that are fantastic! I reccommend The Blue Heron to all! read more

A friend is mine found The Blue Heron online, and we decided to try it for her birthday. It's a speak easy so their is no sign but it's in Cooley Station, at Recker and Williamsfield. It's attached and has the same address as Crust restaurant and they offer their menu for food. The decor is great, very sophisticated and comfortable. Their cocktail menu is amazing. Also you can ask for the Bartender's Choice, the server asks you what you like and don't like, and out comes your own personalized cocktail. The service was top notch but not stuffy by Hanna. The manager also made a couple appearances to being some appetizers and chat which was nice. Our group of four women sat outside on the half booth table and made lots of friends and people passed by. As soon as the parking structure is finished their will be valet parking in front, and when that happens it will be busy, so go try it before all of Mesa knows about it. Great night! read more
