I don't understand the 4* reviews. This place was a delight. ESPECIALLY during happy hour! My fam and I went on Sunday and had the dip trio: the queso was phenomenal, the guac was guacing and the salsa was kid friendly. Then we got two kids meals, which the kids loved and were a great portion size...but they still wanted more (boys...) so we got the mini chimis for them to share. My only issue with the food is that there is too much cheese on the chimis and they weren't very crunchy. Maybe they should do cheese (like the queso) on the side??? Anyway, I got a carnitas taco that was delish and a shrimp taco that was fine (I won't get it again but it was totally good enough to eat). Husband got the combo meal and loved his taco and enchilada! The black beans seem to be the same recipe as Ghost Ranch, which is great because they're my fave. We also got two margaritas each adult (we walked it off at IKEA after). They were sweet for me but $7 on HH so I won't complain. Def a treat! The whole meal during HH was less than $100 before tip for 4 of us. We will def be back. read more

This place is fantastic! I love that it feels like you are in an upscale cantina in Mexico. The ambiance is on point and make me want to drink all of the margaritas! My favorite is the prickly pear margarita on the rocks. They juice the cactus pears themselves and you can totally tell. It's not overly sweet. It is seriously the best margarita I've ever had. I was there with a large group and all of the cocktails were so colorful and delicious. I can't remember what it's called but my friend had some kind of a banana drink and it was delicious! We shared a bunch of delicious appetizers. We got the cheese, crisp and added Carnitas to it. I will totally go back for that! Also love the flautas, the ceviche, and the steak fajitas were so good! Cien agaves offers indoor and outdoor seating. They have parking available. It might be a little hard to find. They do have accessible parking with a ramp. The outside and indoor are beautiful. They are beautifully decorated. They have a mural in the back that you must see. There are tables booths, and a bar. Upon arrival we were asked if we had a reservation we told them no and we did not have a wait. We went on a Wednesday evening. They have ok happy hour selection. I had a frozen margarita and it was seven dollars. It was a smaller glass, but the margarita itself was fresh and delicious. They asked if I wanted sugar salt or Tajin on the rim. That was a really nice option to have. We had the ceviche and it was OK. It needed more flavor and the shrimp didn't taste fresh. I'm not sure if it was made a few days ago or the same day but it just didn't taste too fresh. They do constantly bring out chip, if you want more. The waitress was nice. This place is a little bit more expensive than other Mexican restaurants. It's more of a sit down and dress a little nicer kind of place. I would say this place is accessible. At the door, it is push only it does not automatically open. The host often will come and open the door and greet. There is loud music this place is not quiet. read more

Very big, tons of tables, TVs in the bar area. Staff is friendly and food came out quickly. You do have to pay $4 for chips and salsa. The salsa is very good and worth it. We got tacos and a bowl- the flavors are great. Food is not sloppy with a ton of sauce, which is great! Tastes healthier and fresher this way. I went for Happy Hour with some friends and the food, the drinks, and the beautiful decor did not disappoint! A friend and I shared the margarita flight and I had the three tacos with rice and beans! We shared bottomless chips and salsa and the chips were the perfect amount of crunchy and salty. The food and drinks came fast. If you are a shrimp person, definitely try the Island Shrimp taco! We have always gone to Cien Agave and Old Town Scottsdale, which is amazing but wanted to check out their new location because I frequently am in Chandler and it blew us away. We had so much fun. The restaurant is very well designed and decorated. Service was awesome. Love the music love the vibe and the food is always on point! Super excited that Cien Agaves Tacos & Tequila came into this spot! We stopped by on a Friday to try lunch, and the restaurant wasn't too busy. The decor is excellent and gives the space a much more modern feel compared to the previous restaurant. Our hostess and server were both very friendly and welcoming. I had mixed feelings about the food. We started with the El Trio appetizer, which came with Queso Verde, guacamole, and salsa. Our server was also kind enough to offer us a green salsa, which we actually liked even more. Overall, the appetizer was pretty good. We also ordered the Chicken Tortilla Soup, which was loaded with so much chicken that it could practically be a meal on its own. I personally prefer more broth in my soup, as there was almost too much chicken for it to feel like a soup. That said, the flavor was good. For our main course, we ordered tacos with rice and black beans: * Barbacoa: My favorite! Lots of flavor and definitely the standout taco. * Al Pastor: Okay, but fairly mild and could have used more flavor. * Quesabirria: A lot going on with this one. The flavor was good, but there was almost too much happening. * Carne Asada: Also more mild than I would have liked. * Sea Bass: A little dry, and the flavor was just okay. The rice was too dry for my liking, but the black beans were on point. Overall, I think I was hoping for bigger, bolder flavors, and unfortunately, they just weren't quite there for me. The atmosphere and service were great, and there were definitely some good dishes, especially the barbacoa. I'm hoping they can dial in the flavors a bit more because I'd love to see this place do well! read more

New spot + happy hour = the perfect post-shopping stop! A girlfriend and I needed some post-shopping happy hour, so we decided to check out the new Cien Agaves that just opened this week. And bonus--they have happy hour every day! It was definitely a little crowded, but we were able to grab a table in the bar area. With it being 100+ degrees outside, the frozen Cienaritas were absolutely perfect! The highlight for me was the carnitas on the cheese crisp--SO flavorful and definitely something I'd order again. We also tried the guacamole and queso from the trio, and both were good. The salsa, however, wasn't really our favorite. It was very watery and more like a hot sauce consistency. I was craving elote, so our bartender recommended the Mexican corn. I was able to request it off the cob, which was nice, but unfortunately it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. I think it would be so much better mixed with all the traditional elote toppings and baked together. Our bartender Hailey was amazing and took such good care of us. Well Crap! Was hoping for a good new upscale Mexican spot... What a let down! Casey our server was friendly and efficient! We went with another couple and our grandson.. between the 5 of us, we tried all the different kinds of tacos they offer..they all had a weird oily taste... the guacamole was just avocados, few tomatoes and tons of onion powder... no acid (lime juice) at all..terrible! One of the other reviewers mentioned that the beans tasted like they were out of a can and rice out of a box! That is 100% incorrect! Out of a can beans or out of a box rice would have been an improvement... I'm a native Arizonan and I have never, not once, ever had such terrible Mexican food! We tried 3 different margaritas collectively and they were meh at best... I, personally ordered a shot of casas amigos tequila... it was 1/2 of a shot and wasn't cheap... Very disappointing... won't be back.. I get it if service was off upon only being open for a month... however that was in place.. The food and drinks out the door upon opening should be spectacular... likely to not improve... oh well read more

Frequent Cien Agave in Old Town for years... My bff lives in the East Valley and so we tried their new location. I really liked the location a ton - they did a great job and this will be on our rotation for sure! my favorites are the Guac, margs (skinny) and the carne asada tacos. read more

Had the chance to visit during opening week. It's a new convenient location in Chandler. The restaurant was very busy. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. There were some fun opening week activities including a Tequila tasting and live artist. Servers were prompt and friendly. Margaritas were tasty. The Margarita Flight was a fun way to sample several of them. We started with the Green Chile Cheese Crisp which was tasty. Entrees included the Fajitas and Chicken Enchiladas. The fajitas were sizzling hot. My only minor complaint is that the Enchiladas were just warm. They were still very good. I'm sure the kitchen was busy. We saved room to try both desserts, a Churro Sundae and the Kahlua Flan. Presentation was great and they were both very good. The restaurant features a nice sized bar. There is a daily happy hour from 3pm to 6pm and a reverse happy hour that starts at 9pm. Compliments to the friendly staff including the hosts. read more

We love the one in Scottsdale. Have been going there for years. We've been to this new one twice and probably won't return. Staff is rude. Will look you in the eye when you try and get their attention and turn away. You almost have to shout to get their attention. Food takes forever and comes out cold. Not too flavorful either. Even old standards like the Cheese Crisp are subpar to Scottsdale. We'll give it a few months and try again, but this place is a sad comparison to Scottsdale and Ghost Ranch. read more

We visited Cien Agaves for Happy Hour with our friends. Although we've been to the one in Old Town Scottsdale, my husband prefers not to go there often because it's outside his 5-mile radius. :) So, we're excited to have our own Cien Agaves in the neighborhood. Our experience was wonderful all around. We were greeted with genuine smiles, and the warm, inviting atmosphere immediately made us feel welcome. The food was top-notch, and we loved our server, Antonio (Tony), who went above and beyond to accommodate my friend's special requests. He was fast, friendly, and attentive, and his outstanding service made an already amazing experience even better. Be sure to check out their Happy Hour and Reverse Happy Hour. The Cien-a-rita is delicious, and don't miss out on their fresh, homemade guacamole. Unfortunately, this was a pretty disappointing experience. I know Cien Agaves just opened, so I was completely willing to give them some grace when it came to the food and working out the usual opening kinks. But honestly, the service was by far the worst part of the experience. Our server was difficult to find, wasn't very attentive, and came across as having a bit of an attitude. I ordered an iced tea and never even got a refill because I couldn't find her--which is frustrating when you're paying restaurant prices for a drink. The food didn't make up for it either. I had the mini chimis and the chicken was extremely dry. They were supposed to have jalapeño cream cheese, but I honestly couldn't taste it or really even tell it was there. Funny enough, as I was leaving, a guy and his date were walking in and he asked me how it was. I gave him my honest opinion, and he immediately said, "Guess we'll find someplace else." I told them to go to Ghost Ranch instead and that they'd have a much better experience. You're welcome, sir. I really do hope Cien Agaves gets things figured out. I understand they just opened and there are always going to be some kinks to work out, but the food needs improvement and the service especially needs some serious attention. Went today for lunch. I ordered the guacamole, which was creamy and delicious, topped with pomegranate seeds. Reminded me of the guacamole at Barrio Cafe. I also had the Pork Chile Verde. It was quite flavorful but a bit too spicy for me. I tried a couple of different cocktails, the Paloma and the Cantarito Del Valle. The latter was my favorite, both in presentation and taste. I went last week and sat at the bar and was given a water. Before I could say anything the bartender just turned around didn't say one word and started making drinks. What the hell man. I was about to say it was my first time here and nothing. That should've been my first hint to get up and walk out. Normally I would have. First impressions are everything and you guys made a horrible first impression. After a few minutes a fairly tall dude with a beard came up and saved the day. Super nice and friendly recommended a few things. Made a couple drinks. The female bar tender still didn't say anything. Food was good. Overall not the best experience but not the worst either. A lot of hype around this place. The food is dry and without any real flavor. Had 3 tacos. Fish came with no sauce as advertised and was dry as hell. Pastor was dry and absolutely inedible. Birria was greasy but not bad. Rice was crunchy. Service at the bar is pretty slow. Friendly enough. It's Monday , not crowided. I don't care how new you are. The basics aren't that hard.
