Receipt with great prices for drinks and food
    Gladys C.

OMG! The food was delicious and fresh! My family and I just moved out here from LA and we have been looking for a good Mexican food spot in the area. Let me tell you... not only was the food fresh, but it was decently priced and the drinks and food on the happy hour menu were *chefs kiss*. Please ask for Edgar. He was amazing! He provided great service , was super attentive and friendly, and made some excellent recommendations. Overall, great place to eat at especially for happy hour. We got quite a few shots and our bill did not disappoint. Again, ask for Edgar cause he was amazing! He'll definitely be seeing us here again. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was great as well. We came here during a World Cup game (Mexico vs Korea) and it was a nice environment. We were able to watch the game while eating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Black Mole Enchilada no cilantro

3.5/5 Dined here recently for dinner as a large party on the patio outside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Some of the chairs had bird droppings on them on both the backs and the seats which doesn't inspire me to want to dine on the patio again if the chairs aren't cleaned regularly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had the guacamole to start with and I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas. The guacamole is prepared in front of you and athough there is cilantro in it (cilantro is my food enemy), it's mixed up enough that I didn't really notice the taste of it too much. Would I pay $16+ for it in the future? Probably not but it did taste pretty good. Honestly, guacamole isn't that hard to make at home so it wouldn't be worth the price point for me. The chicken mole enchiladas were well prepared and exactly as advertised. I requested them with no cilantro and they were happy to oblige. I had two of the enchiladas before getting a little tired of the taste of the mole so got the rest to go. The rice and beans that came with it were well prepared. Service was very friendly but was slow to get us things we needed. We had to remind the server about food and other items. I think they were short staffed that day so I think that was the cause for some of the lag in service.

We wanted to enjoy this great weather while it lasts so we chose to eat at the patio at Bario Queen Tempe marketplace. This is one of our regular hangout spots that we frequent and one might think that 5-stars may be a little over the top for a local chain restaurant located in an outdoor mall. Bario Queen Tempe deserves the 5 stars for being consistently consistent at delivering great all around experience time and time again. The staff were warm and welcoming. The food was fantastic and fresh. The table side guacamole with pomegranate is a MUST TRY! We tried a variety of Tacos and the Cochinita pibil. All were delicious and flavorful. The service was excellent and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the patio was comfortable with ample shade provided by large umbrellas.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It is so important to have repeated, good experiences at the same place! Great job Bario team! Keep it up!

    "Street corn"

Ordered takeout thinking the food would at least be decent. When it arrived the bag was covered in grease, and nothing spilled either. I have no idea how so much grease got there. The food itself was also disappointing. We got the barrio enchiladas, street corn, and horchata and the food was so bland and not cooked properly, and the horchata tasted like sweet milk. The street corn had parts that were still cold and tasted like a microwave dinner, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was frozen and reheated. Extremely disappointed in everything we got and the overall quality.

I've tried Barrio Queen once before at the Phoenix location and wasn't very impressed, so I wasn't sure what to expect this time. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing back then or maybe this Tempe location is just better because dinner was delicious. The chips and salsa were great, and the salsa had a nice kick. My steak tacos were packed with flavor and loaded with meat. My drink was also really good... strong, and fruity. Even though Tempe Marketplace was packed on a Sunday night, the restaurant itself wasn't too busy, and our server was attentive. I'd definitely come back!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Indoor / outdoor seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Location convenient with lots in the area. Food was just eh. Tableside guac was good and salsa good. Menu is not the friendliest to navigate. The entrees were lack luster for taste. Service was just okay... [[HIGHLIGHT]]sat outside and it was near closing time ?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall it's just okay

Been craving a shrimp taco, and noticed this location listed on Yelp's list of shrimp tacos in Tempe as I was in the area for my hair appointment. For a Sunday evening, they weren't too busy and I was seated immediately. It did take some time for my server to greet me, but I think they only had one server on for both inside and the patio. I wasn't too fussed as it gave me time to check out the menu as it was my first time to this chain of restaurants. Plus, I enjoyed looking at the decor as the restaurant is well decorated with sugar skulls. When my tacos (camarón asado and pescado asado) arrived with my sides (calabacitas and rice), I had no silverware and had to wait about ten minutes for my server to return to ask. I tried to overlook and chalk it off to being split between too many tables, but it also took over 10 minutes for a box when I requested. When the check arrived, I wasn't sure if you pay at the table or up front, so after about 5-10 minutes of my card sitting on the receipt, I went up front. Awkwardly found out you do in fact pay at the table and the server said they were busy cashing out a table on the patio. Always feel bad, but I had waited long enough to doubt where you pay. If the food is stellar, I can overlook the service being a little less than par due to staffing. Sadly, I didn't find anything special about either taco. I ended up getting Rubio's the next day and preferred theirs. Though, I'll say the chips and salsa were delicious. Perhaps I'll try again in the future as it could be an off night, and I've heard friends say they like this chain.

We were in the area visiting and stopped by this area to check it out and do some shopping. Decided to have lunch & dropped by with our friends and our kids. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were promptly seated after entering and the restaurant was bright & decor was nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waiter was helpful & able to answer our questions and accommodate our requests. We ordered bean and cheese burrito with fries, chicken tacos with rice and chicken tenders with fries for the kids. It all comes with a drink & dessert! (Such a treat for the little ones). For the adults we had the combination fajitas, which comes with steak, shrimp and chicken on top of all the peppers and onions. It also had a side of rice & beans and tortillas. Such great flavors and very tasty. Our friends had their tacos and also enjoyed it. We also had drinks and shots and this place definitely nailed all the drinks. You can actually taste the alcohol in it and it wasn't watered down at all. The staff were super friendly and helpful & we enjoyed talking to them. Definitely will be back when in the area again. It was a great experience for us.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Came here in a Sunday night and it was good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lots of art, lots of people, and a great bar for cocktails.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was good, got the carne asada plate. It comes out on a hot skillet so be careful you don't burn yourself. The asada was delicious and the rice was good. The prices are a bit high but maybe that's just the times now...

I ordered delivery. The veggie taco was perfect, although very very well salted. Presumably ever ingredient that went in got a sprinkle. The enchiladas we less sauced than I'd have expected. Thank goodness for beans as side for dipping. The rice? So good. Bits of corn and flava.... yes. I sloppily dolloped the sour cream, gon on judge. There's picture to help with that ;-)

Barrio Queen is a fantastic Mexican restaurant with okay service. First, I love the aesthetic. Stark white walls allowed every bit of color to pop. Murals and colored glass was captivating. This was far from bland or stale aesthetics. My friend and I were seated toward the back half of the restaurant. I noted the table density was quite comfortable. Handed an illegible menu I was a bit surprised that they kept these in circulation. Where people had held the menu on the sides the ink had faded to the point it wasn't possible to read. I had my phone handy so I could pull the menu up there. I ordered the Queen enchilada with added shrimp. Despite a cream sauce and three different cheeses it was surprisingly not super rich. The three enchiladas were perfect size, lots of shrimp, and a good balance with the cheeses as the slightly sharper goat cheese contrasted nicely with the cream sauce. The beans and rice were also fantastic. I was impressed with the portion sizes because while they were filling they also weren't so much I felt I couldn't finish. The service was the one meh. Our waiter was a solemn, quiet gentleman who performed his tasks routinely. Never once did he smile or show any real customer service skills. It was a bit of a shame but otherwise a lovely evening.

Will always come back for the HH chicken flautas ! Service was quick and efficient from a nice young man, Christian. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sat on the patio on a perfect day, with a friend who tried Barrio for the first time (she loved it)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Dos Equis that I got was served glass so cold it made a beer slushy ! - super awesome.

Normally we go to the location in Scottsdale, but we were in Tempe and this is where my son wanted to go! We got right in on a Thursday evening! The place was packed on their amazing out door patio, so we didn't think we would get in! But they had some indoor seating! The waitress was the best, so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu! I love asking what the most popular items are and she literally told me " let me tell you what the most popular item is in each section, along with her favorite items" Waw that's service!! The food was out quickly despite how busy they were! I ordered the queen enchiladas My son got the carne asada burrito Both were great, so flavorful and delicious. Loved the vibe in this location, decorations were on point and they were on top of cleaning up as soon as a table was finished!! Definitely worth the visit!!

Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.

First of all, eating anywhere in Tempe, starts with a frustrating time.... Trying to find parking and having to pay to park. I don't understand why restaurants don't have parking for customers. Idk maybe I don't know where to look. Second, it's hot AF in here. I feel sorry for the guys cooking. It's 105 today and the restaurant is so small, it's probably impossible to keep cool during the summer. Finally, the food. It all tastes very fresh! NO SEED OILS is amazing. I feel like I have won something when I find a restaurant that uses olive oil and beef tallow to cook in. Best corn tortillas I have had for sure. We basically tried one of each taco. (Although some of the tacos we ordered were wrong, so we just kept adding) not a big deal, because they were delicious and we loved them. I felt like the carne was chewy but my husband loves chewier meat. The taco with the marlin was my favorite. And the one that came out kind of like a cheese crisp. It's loud in here and again the space is very small. They do not serve wine at all. But yummy margaritas! The bartender is working solo and working hard! She busted her butt and did an amazing job. Our…read moreserver said they were the only one working tonight and that they'd take care of us, and they sure did. The parking lot outside was parking so we thought we may have to wait, but inside was not busy yet and we were seated immediately. I ordered the smoked chicken enchilada as I saw it was a Yelp favorite and it was delicious. I ended up taking half of it home since we all filled up on chips and salsa before our meal. This restaurant is decorated so cutely. I love how there is a Baja influence with all the surf boards but also southwest appeal. There is plenty of seating and tables for big groups. Even with other people yapping around us, the noise level was perfect to enjoy company. 10/10 would recommend.

There were heaters available if we needed them, as we sat outside. Our amazing and friendly server offered to turn the heaters on for us, but we didn't need them. I enjoyed a Oaxacan Old Fashioned (on the sweeter side, but that's what I like), we had the Elote (BEST I'VE EVER HAD), and I also had the Carne A La Tampiquena. Everything tasted amazing and was served fresh and in a timely manner. We will most certainly be back (and you should visit, too!)!

Mixed feelings about Glenrosa Restaurant…read more Arrived 30 min early before our reservation so we could grab a drink at the bar. We made the reservation online and asked for indoor seating. When we arrived the hostess said she knows we requested inside but they could only sit us outside as they were fully booked. It is 98 degrees outside. Wr decided to check it out anyway and wait at the bar for our friends. As we walked through the restaurant, it was practically empty with only a couple of high tops seated and one low table. Okay, perhaps more reservations coming at a later time? It was too hot for us to sit outside although there were golfers and a few others sitting outside. As it came time for our reservation. Restaurant even less busy and we asked if they could pull a couple of the two person tables together for the four of us since obviously no one has arrived for all the reservations they said were booked. They said they would see what they could do. After waiting at the bar another 15 minutes with our drinks, they found seating for us. Still, the restaurant is practically empty and even emptier throughout the evening. Perplexed and feeling a bit weird, but we were hungry and stayed. The server took a while to get to us as she was busy socializing with another server sitting down having a bite to eat. When she finally came over, I ordered the PLATO DE BARBACOA $38 agave smoked short rib, pickled onions, salsas, cilantro, corn tortillas. This was delicious and super tasty. The description states shareable but only enough for one person. My husband ordered the carne asada tacos* $ 18 -black angus flank steak, cilantro, onion, housemade flour tortilla. He said they were good. Our friend ordered the HALF CHICKEN $ 32 - boneless heirloom chicken, citrus cured, mole negro, arroz rojo. I'm not sure where the half chicken went but this couldn't have been more than 4oz of chicken. It was dry, no flavor and the bean & rice were terrible. terrible. I can't believe it was $32 for what he received. Our other friend ordered the GRILLED SEA BASS $27. Mediterranean branzino, mole blanco, blistered peas. She said it was okay. Cooked well but not much flavor. I was really looking forward to checking out the Glenrosa but my first experience and opinion of the Glenrosa was just not great. Service and food very mediocre. Except the short rib. That was delicious.

Came to Glenrosa hoping for drinks and a good time, but apparently I accidentally signed up for a…read moresocial experiment called "How Long Can Someone Sit At A Bar Before Being Acknowledged?" I sat down at the bar and Fran looked directly at me no less than five times without saying a single word. No hello, no "I'll be right with you," no communication whatsoever. At first I honestly thought maybe she wasn't the bartender and just a dishwasher, but considering she made drinks for someone else, that theory quickly died. What really sent me was watching two men sit down, directly next to me, 10 minutes after I sat down, and immediately receive menus, service, drinks, smiles... the full VIP package. Meanwhile, I had to ask across the bar just to get a menu like I was requesting state secrets. When Fran finally acknowledged my existence, I ordered a drink and asked for a receipt. Did I receive either of those things? Absolutely not. Instead, she made the men's drinks, counted a few more bottles, typed a few things on her ipad, look at me out of the corner of her eye once more, gave someone a high five, and wandered off from the bar area entirely while I sat there questioning every life decision that led me to Glenrosa. After another 10 minutes of waiting, I finally asked the service well bartender (who also looked at me multiple times) where my drink was, and he immediately made it. 20 minutes for 1 drink, 3 total patrons at the bar. I get the feeling the inside bar, is not a customer service type bar. And Fran, is definitely not a girls girl. Her attitude and service are unfortunately both bottom barrel.
