The Rusty, The Philly & The Spicy Fried Chicken

I don't have a complaint. Service, atmosphere, value, flavor. No complaints. It's well located if you're visiting the Tempe / University area. Near a bunch of hotels. It's sports oriented without being annoying. Dance music playing, but not obnoxiously loud. Outdoor seating. Lots on indoor seating. Various styles, high top, bar seating, communal and 4 tops. I mean, I'm a real picky jerk and I got no issues. Young person greeted me immediately, took my order, knew the menu, gave reccs, polite. I really - I really got no complaints. Bravo Rusty Taco. I'll be back. With friends.

Although they offer tacos, margarita specials, and a full bar, I came specifically for the churros, and they did not disappoint! The churros were warm, perfectly cooked, and filled with delicious caramel. A sweet treat that's definitely worth the visit!

Small but mighty good. Service was extremely terrific. Wonderful staff. Food tasted delicious and fresh. Small but nice patio too. Wish you were on the west side of the valley.

Margaritas are delicious! Not too strong, not too sweet, just right as well as the queso dip, nom nom. Servers as well are sweet with a good play list going. Will be back

Baja Shrimp Taco (Grilled) CHICKEN FAJITA TACO

The tacos were amazing I got the chicken fajita and baja shrimp. They were both good but the shrimp one was definitely my favorite. It did take 20 minutes for my tacos to get out but it wasn't too bad. However, I also ordered the single serve nachos with steak at the end to go, and was disappointed when I got home and they were missing the cotija cheese, enchilada sauce, avocado crema, guacamole, and black bean puree. It was 90 percent chips with a little bit of pico, queso fresco, steak, and queso. Overall, the tacos were delicious but I would not recommend the nachos.

Fun outdoor vibe, right downtown Tempe close to the campus and all sporting events. Great deals! Highly recommend the brisket nachos

Texican sub beef for chicken + sour cream and habanero salsa

I don't understand Tex-Mex or know what it is specifically because I was born and raised from San Francisco eating in the esteemed Mission District but I will say when it comes to this place, I'm a fan! They have chicken, shrimp, ground meat, queso, bowls, and a good variety of salads. The chicken is well seasoned grilled pieces of chicken breast. I def enjoyed my snacky visit to the rusty taco. I subbed the texican for chicken + habanero and salsa verde and it was pretty bomb! My Mexican candy little shooter was super good and lined the rim with tajin. I've walked by this place many times but the name is so random I never go inside. I decided to try it before heading back to Cali and I'm glad I did! Pretty good good with pretty good tacos. The service was impressively quick and everyone was super nice. You order at the bar and are given water right away and literally two seconds later your food comes out. It's a nice casual fun vibe to enjoy with friends. I'll be back! Love all the taco banners and signage and good variety of taco options. My only suggestion was the shrimp taco I got could use either some beans in it, a cilantro crema, maybe mango or pineapple salsa or use prawns. The shrimp taco with purple cabbage was pretty one and was missing 1-2 things to elevate it. Other than that my texican taco was fire and I appreciate you actually cooking the flour tortilla and getting brown marks on it. It tasted like it was made in house- pretty good!

Literally smack dab in the middle of ASU. Take that info with what you will. We walked in around 2:15 on a Saturday once the spring semester ended, so it could've been much worse. They had the registers where you'd order closed and literally had one bartender manning the bar and taking every single order. I felt so bad for her because she was running back and forth and here we are standing there waiting for her to acknowledge us and get in our orders. Thankfully, it wasn't too busy, but still. We did have to wait a bit to order. My friend ordered two crispy fish tacos and a side of chips and queso. The "side" of chips and queso could've been an entire meal they gave you so many chips. My friend said to make sure I emphasize how delicious the queso was in this review lol. She enjoyed her fish tacos; her only complaint was that she wished there was a little more fish. I ordered the chicken fajita taco and the black bean taco. Both on flour tortillas. The black bean taco was super liquidy that I tilted it sideways and the liquid from the beans created a lake in the boxes the tacos come in. I didn't let that deter me though, as it was still super flavorful. I was grateful that it came with two tortillas because otherwise a single tortilla would've been soaked before it came out. I preferred the chicken fajita more. The chicken was tasty and not dry at all. My only gripe was that the pepper slices were bigger than I'd liked. But it's okay, it was a fajita taco afterall. If you're a college student or looking to try some tacos with college students, check this place out. Nothing blew me away, hence why I'm giving it 4 stars

OKAY. Never heard of Rusty prior to this visit and literally so sad about it. I'm from TX where Torchy's is gospel and I'd say Rusty gives them a run for their money. Everything was delicious. Nothing fell apart. Flavors were fire (and I don't mean spicy unless you wanted it that way). The salsa and guac were fresh and flavorful and the queso was dreamy. Oh, and can we talk about the churros? I typically don't like filled churros but these are probably the best I've ever had. Crispy on the outside and loaded with that sugary cinnamon goodness and super soft and squishy on the inside with deep caramel flavored filling. Mmm. One thing to note: if you are post college aged, you will literally be the oldest person in here :) but you should go anyway!

Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.

First of all, eating anywhere in Tempe, starts with a frustrating time.... Trying to find parking and having to pay to park. I don't understand why restaurants don't have parking for customers. Idk maybe I don't know where to look. Second, it's hot AF in here. I feel sorry for the guys cooking. It's 105 today and the restaurant is so small, it's probably impossible to keep cool during the summer. Finally, the food. It all tastes very fresh! NO SEED OILS is amazing. I feel like I have won something when I find a restaurant that uses olive oil and beef tallow to cook in. Best corn tortillas I have had for sure. We basically tried one of each taco. (Although some of the tacos we ordered were wrong, so we just kept adding) not a big deal, because they were delicious and we loved them. I felt like the carne was chewy but my husband loves chewier meat. The taco with the marlin was my favorite. And the one that came out kind of like a cheese crisp. It's loud in here and again the space is very small. They do not serve wine at all. But yummy margaritas! The bartender is working solo and working hard! She busted her butt and did an amazing job. And smiled the entire time. She was awesome

The birria taco is supposed to be crunchy and it was soggy. It just was pretty mediocre tasting and I really wanted to like it. Usually I'm camped outside with a few cocktails and I stagger my order. Just to be clear, my favorite item here is the Carne Asada Sope!!! Service was great as they gave the family recommendations. Teenagers went for the (classic Azteca & burrito Mio) burritos and birria tacos. The consommé to them was on point as they finished it all on the burritos. Greedy kids also split one of my Sope's seeing how I hyped it up... and left crumbs!!! Salsa bar is located in the corner and labeled so you don't go blazin hot unexpectedly with a salsa. For the adults, we decided to go with the Asada Fries for the group to share, the Mulitas with Carne Asada, Steet taco combo with rice & beans, horchata's and of course a Margarita (or 2) It was a bit to hot for the patio our front that evening, and they do have a another one out back. The only downside was that that bathroom was down for the night so we didn't hang out for a round 2.
