The first time I had the chicken mole with their homemade flour tortillas, and it was excellent. The mole had a great balance of flavor, and mixing that sauce with the rice was the perfect combination. On my second visit, I couldn't decide, so I ordered two plates. The menudo was packed with flavor and tasted homemade. I also dug into the chorizo and eggs, and that plate was just as good. The restaurant itself is older and on the smaller side, but don't let that fool you. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food with great flavor, this spot is absolutely worth the visit.Service was excellent and the people working are great .

I was excited to see caramelos on the menu since they can be hard to find. After you order they give you a number and bring the food out to your table. They also have a little salsa bar where you can grab extra salsas and toppings for your food. I tried the quesabirria taco and it was okay. I only had a bite or two of the caramelo before I looked over at the window and noticed a huge dead cockroach stuck between the glass along with a ton of dust and other little bugs. As soon as I saw that I completely lost my appetite and couldn't bring myself to keep eating.

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant. We've been coming here for years and it never disappoints…read more I think this place might have one of the most festive, colorful, Mexican decor anywhere. I love the booth and chairs with colorful Mexican scenes on them. The colored banners strung across the ceilings and the metal, life-sized Mariachi figures are so fun. The colorful floral mural on one wall is a perfect backdrop. They use colorful fabric napkins which only add to the festive feel. The surface here was really good today. Our server was spot on with orders and our food came out relatively quickly. Our group of six can sometimes be all over the place, but she kept up. The food is always good here. We ordered a variety of things from hard tacos to nachos too shrimp ceviche tostadas. The consensus is always that the food here is delicious. I even like the rice here and I am one of the pickiest rice people. We arrived at happy hour when house margaritas are only $5. We will be lifetime fans of Casa de Juana. The atmosphere, service, food, and reasonable prices will continue to bring us back.

SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS…read more Manuel's Mexican Restaurant 2350 E. Southern Avenue Tempe, 85282 It's Cinco De Mayo so we had to have some good Mexican food. My companion and I arrived at 5:00 and the place was already packed. Fortunately, we were seated quickly and had a really nice waitress. We started out with virgin strawberry margarita's , which were perfect. Chips and salsa came quickly and we both remarked how good the chips were. Very light and thin, and the salsa was so good that I brought a quart of it home. For main courses, my companion ordered 2 tacos. They were pronounced excellent and came with a side of rice that was so tasty that my companion ate the whole portion. Since my companion seemed to have a bottomless pit tonight, fried ice cream was ordered for dessert. My companion almost finished it, leaving a tiny bit of the ice cream for me! For myself, I had the fajitas. It came sizzling on the platter as it should, and was accompanied by 3 steaming hot corn tortillas, guacamole, crema, and green salsa. Finishing it all was an act of stuffing, as the portion was huge, but I made a valiant effort. My companion wanted me to eat some of the fried ice cream, but after my huge dinner and 2 virgin strawberry margarita's, there just was no more room. Service was quick, and the place was nice and clean. It's worth noting that they have a happy hour from 3 to 6. I have eaten at Manuel's before and the food is always excellent. Their taco salad is so big that most people cannot finish it. 5 stars for a wonderful meal, good service, and cleanliness

SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS Parilla Los Picos Restaurant…read more 1542 W University Mesa 85201 I have had a craving for Enchiladas Sonoran style lately, and found that they have this on their menu. Companion and I wanted lunch, and this seemed ideal. Unfortunately, Google Maps is extremely confusing about how to find this and we circled the area over and over till we found it. For starters, they brought our chips and salsa. Not the usual watered down salsa, but with body and tons of flavor. We were off to a good start! Companion ordered a Carne Asada Chimichanga. It was huge and stuffed with meat. It was ordered with green sauce and the flavor was nothing short of amazing. 1/2 of it resides in my refrigerator. For myself, I ordered a pair of Cheese Enchiladas Sonoran Style, which means they had a pair of fried eggs on top along with red sauce. The last time I had this was in Lourdsberg, New Mexico in a little mom and pop place. This was exactly the same. It also came with Frijoles Refritos (refried beans), and fried potatoes. A wonderful lunch but I couldn't finish it. Companions plate also came with a portion of Guacamole. Since companion does not care for avocados, I felt it was my duty to devour it. Unlike most guac's, this one had lovely flavor and the avocado was chunky. It was so refreshing not to have a baby food Guacamole. This is a mom and pop restaurant. It isn't fancy, but it is real. It's clean, service is excellent, and the food it tops.
