    Let's try lunch in Mesa.
    Steve M.

I try to hit the small "hole in the wall places", they're usually closer to homemade, authentic & better portions. Not here, $10 for 3 tacos. The carnitas is smokey & juicy, the asada was ok but little bits of fat. The interior smelled a bit off, but hey I gave it a shot.

Service was good (7/10). Staff was friendly (9/10). Inside wasn't as clean as it could be. It was empty and a lots of the tables available were not clean (4/10). Menudo was good (6/10).

Not my first time here. But my first time since Covid hit. Forgot how GREAT the food is, the staff. The owner and his daughter are lovely people. You know when you want something good but simple, uncomplicated? That was me tonight. Pork POSOLE to the rescue!!!! It was easily two cups of meat and hominy in a light and delicious broth. The cilantro I added was so fresh, not stemmy either. 5/6 corn tortillas were a great addition. I drank the broth at the end. My husband had beef street tacos - no photo as he made no haste. Delicious beef and nothing spared on quantity. Cheese quesadilla was simple and great. They use the GOOD CHEESE here. Before I've always had the chicken dorado tacos and can attest they are AMAHZING but best eaten there on site. Since they are from over near MX City you'll see things on their menu you've not ever enjoyed - ASK them and they'll happily explain. Worth a drive from another end of the valley? "Yes!" says this native Zonie who has travelled to MX for fun and work, and spent time on ranches with good beef.

This place is a hidden gem. The quality of the food here is outstanding. I tried the tlacoyo potato. Stuffed potato inside a sope type, drizzled with salsa verde and cheese. There was no meat on it, but it was beyond delicious and filling. They were nice enough to give me a free chickpea version while I waited. I ordered the red pozole. The pozole was pork and probably the best pozole I've had in AZ. It's rich with flavor and the hominy and meat were tender. They have it every day, so no waiting just for the weekends. I also got 5 tacos. The carnitas, asada, chicken and pastor. I'm not sure what they do to their meat, but it was high quality and really flavorful. It's not your average street taco. Make sure you try the red and green salsas. They make everything in house and you can tell. The brown salsa has a smoky flavor, the red is intense. But the chunky green has to be the best. If I lived close by, this would be my go to taqueria.

We ordered: Chips and salsa - 5 stars Chicken street tacos - 5 stars Guajolote (looks like a torta) - 5 Stars Tlacyoya Smothered in a green sauce with cilantro and onions -5 Stars We never even heard of a couple of the items on the menu but we're urged to try them and wow! They're really unique! Great service, clean restaurant, great food!

Stumbled upon the most amazing tacos! We got the carnitas, pastor and asada, all tacos were loaded with meat that you know was marinated for hours and tasted delicious! We also wanted Barbacoa and pozole but they were out of it for the day. However, the kind chef came out later to give the little bit that was left so we could try it, absolutely loved it!

We were looking for a simple Mexican place to eat and read the reviews on this place and gave it a try! Glad we did! The food was flavorful and fresh. It did not disappoint. The owner came to our table and asked how we liked the food. He was friendly and informative. As a generous act of kindness, he brought out a free Tlacoyas( I Dk how to spell it) made with blue corn and chick peas. It was delicious! Decor is simple and cheerful. Tables could be cleaned faster but the staff is very friendly and helpful especially to us "gringos" who don't know anything about eating authentic colloquial delicious Mexican food! Definitely worth going to for dinner! It's not a chain restaurant so don't expect nachos, cheese dip or guacamole.

Authentic Mexican food sounded perfect and I knew good things were in store when I arrived at 11:30am on a Friday and all of inside and outside tables were full. The inside is quaint but has quite a few tables. They also have tables out front in the shade (to call it patio seating may be a stretch, just simple tables and chairs on the exterior of the entrance). You order your food at the counter and I didn't study the menu ahead of time but the ladies taking my order were patient with me. I ordered a shredded beef taco and a cheese enchilada with rice and beans. Nothing fancy for my first time as it's hard to golf on a full stomach! I found the only open table and then hit up the salsa bar. They have 4 or 5 different salsas/hot sauces and a few other goodies. I got a small cup of each sauce and all of them were quite good. My food was colorful, flavorful and just the right away to give me some energy without being lethargic. I could go on about a few other nice things but it seems most of East Mesa already knows about this place given the high scores on Yelp from a lot of reviewers. Nothing to prevent me from giving a 5* review at this time. I look forward to trying some more dishes in the future.

Nice cuts, tender and not dry at all. Definitely a fan. Enjoyed both the nachos and the fajitas. Good serving sizes. Also, loved the staff! They were super friendly and welcoming. They offered to take my empty plate as I was about to. They also bud farewell to guests as they left. Felt like a really warm family place. Well lit, fun decor, clean. Very enjoyable - will be back!

I'm posting this review for two reasons - The first being because the manager passed the restaurant phone over to the supposed "owner" after I called within five minutes of getting home to tell them the chips and taco shells tasted like they were fried in old, rancid oil. The manager told me she could offer a credit and when I said I would prefer the refund to my card is when she went to get the "owner". I'm fairly sure I wasn't an asshole to her. I was pretty peeved at this point because we're talking about almost $16 of the $49.11 which was the cost of the food I ordered before tax and tip. I work in the service industry/for tips too so I get it. I'm well aware of the price increase of everything everywhere!!! Before going to Ritos I waited in a line of 10 cars at Sam's Club for gas and gas was $49.65. So there's that. The "owner" also reiterated that a refund would only be given if I brought the food back. I'm sorry, but, I live 15 minutes away from Mesa Riverview. My employer was 30 minutes from the restaurant. I sure as f*ck wasn't going to get my ass back in my car and drive back to Ritos to give them shitty tacos and chips. They told me they would offer a credit for next time for chips and 2 tacos - and I guess that's acceptable but my question is - how are you going to provide that when you don't have my number or an email address for me? And aren't chips typically complimentary at a Mexican food restaurant when you dine in? The manager had the audacity to say that the oil was changed, the chips and tacos are cooked in different vats, the cost of meat has gone up and "everyone is feeling it." That's quite the level of audacity. I'm to the point where I don't give a about your credit and if I want Ritos I'll drive even more out of my way to the Garfield or 7th Street location. I'm more pissed off about the "owner's" attitude than I am about the $2.55 chips I threw in the trash. And the taco shells didn't taste too rancid drowning the inside in salsa. My mother was in her bedroom in the back of the house (I was in the kitchen) and just told me she could hear the owner yelling at me and what a sh*tty way to do business. Keep your credit, I won't be back to your locatiom to dine in OR take food to go. PS - Change your raunchy ass oil. As you said, consumers pay *way too much* to get home with a To Go order to have to throw it away because oil isn't changed frequently enough.
