Mixed feelings about Glenrosa Restaurant. Arrived 30 min early before our reservation so we could grab a drink at the bar. We made the reservation online and asked for indoor seating. When we arrived the hostess said she knows we requested inside but they could only sit us outside as they were fully booked. It is 98 degrees outside. Wr decided to check it out anyway and wait at the bar for our friends. As we walked through the restaurant, it was practically empty with only a couple of high tops seated and one low table. Okay, perhaps more reservations coming at a later time? It was too hot for us to sit outside although there were golfers and a few others sitting outside. As it came time for our reservation. Restaurant even less busy and we asked if they could pull a couple of the two person tables together for the four of us since obviously no one has arrived for all the reservations they said were booked. They said they would see what they could do. After waiting at the bar another 15 minutes with our drinks, they found seating for us. Still, the restaurant is practically empty and even emptier throughout the evening. Perplexed and feeling a bit weird, but we were hungry and stayed. The server took a while to get to us as she was busy socializing with another server sitting down having a bite to eat. When she finally came over, I ordered the PLATO DE BARBACOA $38 agave smoked short rib, pickled onions, salsas, cilantro, corn tortillas. This was delicious and super tasty. The description states shareable but only enough for one person. My husband ordered the carne asada tacos* $ 18 -black angus flank steak, cilantro, onion, housemade flour tortilla. He said they were good. Our friend ordered the HALF CHICKEN $ 32 - boneless heirloom chicken, citrus cured,mole negro, arroz rojo. I'm not sure where the half chicken went but this couldn't have been more than 4oz of chicken. It was dry, no flavor and the bean & rice were terrible. terrible. I can't believe it was $32 for what he received. Our other friend ordered the GRILLED SEA BASS $27. Mediterranean branzino, mole blanco, blistered peas. She said it was okay. Cooked well but not much flavor. I was really looking forward to checking out the Glenrosa but my first experience and opinion of the Glenrosa was just not great. Service and food very mediocre. Came to Glenrosa hoping for drinks and a good time, but apparently I accidentally signed up for a social experiment called "How Long Can Someone Sit At A Bar Before Being Acknowledged?" I sat down at the bar and Fran looked directly at me no less than five times without saying a single word. No hello, no "I'll be right with you," no communication whatsoever. At first I honestly thought maybe she wasn't the bartender and just a dishwasher, but considering she made drinks for someone else, that theory quickly died. What really sent me was watching two men sit down, directly next to me, 10 minutes after I sat down, and immediately receive menus, service, drinks, smiles... the full VIP package. Meanwhile, I had to ask across the bar just to get a menu like I was requesting state secrets. When Fran finally acknowledged my existence, I ordered a drink and asked for a receipt. Did I receive either of those things? Absolutely not. Instead, she made the men's drinks, counted a few more bottles, typed a few things on her ipad, look at me out of the corner of her eye once more, gave someone a high five, and wandered off from the bar area entirely while I sat there questioning every life decision that led me to Glenrosa. After another 10 minutes of waiting, I finally asked the service well bartender (who also looked at me multiple times) where my drink was, and he immediately made it. 20 minutes for 1 drink, 3 total patrons at the bar. I get the feeling the inside bar, is not a customer service type bar. And Fran, is definitely not a girls girl. Her attitude and service are unfortunately both bottom barrel. read more

The classic overpriced Arizona "trendy" spot. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was frustrating enough to warrant one. We waited about 20 minutes just to have our table cleared, despite multiple visibly dirty tables sitting untouched the entire time. After finally being seated, it took another 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us--no menus, no silverware, not even water. To make matters worse, there were flies everywhere, likely because at least five nearby tables hadn't been bussed for what looked like hours. It made the whole environment feel unhygienic and poorly managed. This place leans heavily into the "trendy" bar vibe, but unfortunately seems to use ambiance as a crutch to justify $20 cocktails and subpar service. Aesthetic only goes so far--basic hospitality and cleanliness shouldn't be optional. Skip this one no doubt. read more

Cutest atmosphere. Our waitress was very helpful and recommended some very delicious drinks and foods. The outside seating looks perfect for the evening since it's AZ and hot right now. A couple of years ago, I went to Grass Clippings after hearing they had night golf. I was genuinely excited--but the experience was not very good. In fact, my original Yelp review was blunt, which should tell you just how far off the mark it felt at the time. Aside from the food truck--which was genuinely good--there was little else to redeem the experience, and I left convinced I'd never return. Fast forward to last night... after attending Phoenix ZooLights with close friends--new parents to a 9-month-old and both very well respected in the Valley's restaurant industry--they suggested Glenrosa. As we pulled up, I was honestly surprised--in the best way. First, the food was very good and reasonably priced. Service was friendly, attentive, and courteous throughout the evening. We had the fish tacos, beet salad, milanesa (made better with the green, non-spicy salsa), fundido, spicy shrimp ceviche, and wings--all very good. Looking out from the restaurant, I was shocked by how much the course had changed. The views were great, the setting was enjoyable, and it was truly a night-and-day difference from my first visit. My buddy joked, "You're already imagining playing here again, aren't you?" He was right. I told him my original experience felt like playing golf at a trailer park--this felt like a completely different place. Bottom line: My wife and I will definitely be back for the food. And yes, I'm giving the golf course a second shot. Credit where it's due--this place has evolved in a very real way. read more

If you're looking for a spot with a beautiful ambiance, outdoor seating, and stellar sunset views, Glenrosa will be your new fav spot. That said, the main food items fell a bit short for me and they were definitely on the $$$ side. The Two Wash Ranch Smoked Chicken was really dry, and the mole had a much smokier flavor profile than I'm used to. The Mercado Salad was also not my favorite, since it came across super bitter. What I would go back for? The chips and salsa, and the Mom's Spa Day cocktail. Every salsa was bursting with flavor, the chips were fresh and perfectly crisp, and that cocktail was both refreshing and beautifully presented. Stopped by Glenrosa for a solo dinner and had Alexa as my server, she was absolutely lovely. Super sweet, attentive, and had great recommendations that made me feel well taken care of. The food itself was good, but to be honest, not quite worth the price. You're mostly paying for the view, which is stunning, the golf course backdrop makes for a gorgeous setting. But if you're looking for a foodie experience, this probably isn't it. It seems better suited for a group hangout or a happy hour stop with friends. I could also see it being a decent spot to grab a drink and small bite before a flight or after a round of golf. As a solo dinner spot, though? I wouldn't recommend it. Came here on a busy Wednesday when they just recently opened. Seemed that they were a bit understaffed as service was slow and they were probably trying to settle down. The food was subpar but I would give them the benefit of the doubt that they were not prepared yet. This is a cute spot and probably a great place to grab a drink or food after golfing, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. My friends and I met for dinner and I ordered a spicy margarita, we ordered chips and guac to share, and I ordered the fish tacos. The spicy margarita was pretty standard house margarita mix with a hint of jalapeño. The serving of chips and guac was sad -- there were 5 of us I think we each got a tablespoon and a half of guac and had several leftover chips, even though those were served in an individual-sized bowl too. For the tacos, we asked if we could mix / match, and we were told that they can do that at lunch but not for dinner (I don't know that I understand the difference). I ended up ordering the fish, and trading with a friend who got the pork belly. The tacos were good, but not particularly flavorful or unique. Again, the serving sizes were kind of sad, including the rice and beans. The service was good, and everything came out quickly; our guac actually came out while the waitress was still taking the rest of our orders. read more

This newer restaurant is located on Rolling Hills golf course. It's a really nice place, decorated nicely with great open space views of the golf course. I could have done without the grounds keepers with loud leaf blowers near us during lunch though. The staff were friendly and attentive. The menu isn't a full Mexican restaurant. It's more taco themed with some sandwiches. It's a good menu for a golf course. We had the chicken tortilla soup that had a nice set up It was mostly tomato based with little to no chicken. The tacos were pretty good and beans and rice were a la carte adding to cost. It seems like a good place between holes or as a 19th hole experience. Recently tried Glenrosa because I saw it pop up on google maps and it looked cute from the website. It's located on a golf course but the entrance is easy to find. Our hostess was very sweet and got us seated immediately. We ordered two cocktails and both were great. We got the chips and salsa as well as the guacamole. In my opinion the guac was mediocre but not bad. The salsas were good but spicy, so if you cannot handle spice be warned. My mom got the shrimp tacos and they were so good. My only complaint about this dish is that it has very small pieces of shrimp and not very much. If they added 1 shrimp more to each taco it would feel much more balanced. It was restaurant week so I did the 3 course tasting menu. My first course was the Caesar salad which was good. It came covered in Parmesan and some sort of crouton. Very salty but I enjoy salt so it wasn't an issue for me. Next I got to try the ribeye tacos, they were good but a little fatty (as to be expected from ribeye lol). Overall our experience was great, our server was busy but very friendly and accommodating. We finished up the night with the vanilla gelato and the consistency/texture was fantastic. I hate to only give three stars, because the location is beautiful and the ambiance is relaxed and fun. The food was such a let down. I ordered from the Arizona restaurant week menu the tuna tostada, short rib barbacoa, and the elote flan. The tostada was tasty and fresh, but had more of the fruit/veggie than tuna itself. The barbacoa was incredibly fatty with chewy connective tissue. It's wasn't even fork tender to justify all the fat. The dessert was my favorite part of the meal. Creamy corn flan with subtle notes of citrus and not too sweet. My partner got the Caesar with chicken. It was more like an undressed head of romaine. Also the chicken was overcooked. I really hope they fix the kinks in the kitchen. Service was ok, but it was odd to have to pay in a tablet without even seeing the itemized receipt. The server just told us the total post tax. Some neighbors had recommended Glenrosa to us. I have driven past it 100 times without noticing it. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and that was important as my elderly parents were with me. It's a great indoor-outdoor space with a lot of seating options. Bar, tables, fire pits. The menus is not cheap but the food was great quality. I had the two wash chicken with mole and my husband had the carne asada tacos. Both were excellent! They also had an epic play list of very old time steel guitar western music. This is a keeper. read more

The vibes and decor were cute, and the location on a golf course added a unique touch. The food overall was decent - I would definitely recommend the mochomos! They were packed with flavor, especially when dipped in the consome. The wings were tasty but sizes were inconsistent. My drink was very good, which is always a win. When we walked in, our server asked if we wanted some chips and salsa, but didn't mention that it wasn't complimentary. $12 for a small bowl of chips and salsa is a bit steep and tasted very average. When the bill came, I was definitely shocked by the charge! It should've been phrased more like, "Would you like to ORDER chips and salsa?" rather than just offering it. Also, extra charges for sauces? Hmm. The dessert (sopapillas) were a bit lackluster and wasn't warm when served. Food and drinks took a bit to come out as well. To start of, the parking is shared with the golf range so it was a little packed. I made a dinner reservation for 4 at 7pm. When we got there we were not greeted. I checked in at the host stand, let them know I was there for a reservation. We waited a few mins. They told us they would sit us but that we would be waiting for a waiter for a little while to take care of us. When we get to the table there was someone sitting there. The hostess said we would have to go back to the lobby and wait for a table to open up. We waited at the bar for about 10mins. The hostess showed us to our new table, it was a firepit table with a couch, very nice but not ideal to have a full meal. We ordered drinks, we got the Madrina, Moms Spa Day and the Pomegranate Paloma. The drinks were really good. For appetizers we ordered the queso fundido and the shrimp ceviche, these were also good. For food we ordered the Tijuana Salad with steak (bc after I ordered it with shrimp they told me they were out of shrimp), also the menu advertised the salad containing heirloom tomatoes but they were cherry tomatoes. The carne asada tacos, which the plate looked really sad with 3 tiny tacos. the steak torta with a side salad, which was decent not too bad. Lastly we got the chicken tortilla soup, which was lacking broth, but overall it was okay. After we received our meals it took a really long time for the waitress to come back for us to pay. Aside from this she was honestly the best part of coming to Glenrosa, she was friendly, even offered to take our picture. The outside area was really nice but overall I would not come back. It seemed a bit chaotic between the staffing and what they needed to be doing. I did not feel like my food was worth the price. read more

I'm not going to eat something that doesn't taste like what it should be, especially seafood. Our server disappeared, so went to ask for help I waited and waited. At this time I just shared my friend's dinner. After 25 minutes we were just ready to go, but still no help or check. Went to hostess table, gone. I suppose they thought we were leaving without paying, so now we had some attention. The manager came from the outdoor bar. We explained the situation, and with complete disregard, we paid our bill and left. Just had lunch here and cannot express how great the food was! Our son golfs at Grass Clippings often and heard the restaurant was now open with a highly regarded chef. So we decided to check it out. The ambiance is great, with windows looking out in the course. Many large TVs, so all of us had a view of the Masters tournament. But this isn't just a restaurant tagged into a course. It's amazing food. The wood fire grill and fresh local ingredients made everything taste delicious. My son had a huge burger, I tried 3 different tacos (all excellent), and my wife enjoyed her salad. I believe the also offer steak for dinner, which I'm sure will be great. Will definitely give going back. read more

This is a great place to experience at least once. Surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Papago Park, it's become my "go to" spot to take visitors to. The food, services and views have all been great. I am not sure why some people have given in such harshly negative reviews (mostly complaining about the cost). If you are annoyed it's a bit on the pricey end, then go to a place that has nothing else to offer besides cheap Mexican food. Opening night so i'm giving them a little grace but it was probably a 3.5 out of 5. The queso was delicious but only 3 tostadas were given with a whole skillet. We still had half the dish left and had to wait 5-10 minutes for extra chip to eat it. My boyfriend and I split the ribeye meal. again only 3 small tortillas for a 20 oz steak. portions for things were just off. small dishes of sides. the corn was really good. the rice wasn't super special. The beans were very flavorless, tasted as if they just were made with water. We had to get salsa to add to the tacos. The actual ribeye was super good though. My boyfriend ordered a whiskey sour at first and he didn't enjoy it so Id stick to their specialty drinks. I started with the marigold margarita and I liked it. There also was a fraternity event going on during opening night and so it was very loud in the restaurant which added a chaotic factor probably not a good move on their part. Our waitress was friendly and let us know up front we would probably have waits for things so that was appreciated. The restaurant was decorated really well. Once they work out kinks for timing of things I think it will be a better experience but for the price i'm a little skeptical. Also portions for the sides of dishes need to be increased to compare to the amount of meat or main dish. read more
