This place is still cool, but I hadn't been since before COVID until recently. They still have the "scan this code to view the menu and order" system, which I'm guessing came from COVID ... the system is annoying and not easy to use, even for techie people. Modifications, re-ordering drinks, even just reading the menu, etc... just not easy. I'm with the boomers on this one - just give me paper! I suppose it is nice that I can get a drink without waiting for someone, but at the same time service is not great because people don't come to check on you unless you order through your phone. They still want an auto-gratuity if you're with more than 6 people, even though we all ordered separately. I understand that's pretty normal - but what service did they give us besides putting the food on the table? None! The left side of the restaurant was pretty full but she walked me over to the right in the back corner (which just so happened to work out cause I wasn't there for games but to study) The whole place was about half full by then. The space is huge with plenty of tables, booths, and bar seating, plus they have a dog-friendly patio, although it didn't seem to be open during our visit. One thing to note is that ordering is done entirely through QR code, so interaction with staff is pretty minimal. Service was still smooth, but it definitely has more of a self-service feel. Their board game collection is massive and there's a $6 per person fee if you want to play. We ended up skipping the games this time and just came for food and drinks. Food-wise, everything was solid. I had the Spellbinder Hazy IPA along with the patty melt and sweet potato fries (a $3 upcharge). The patty melt was excellent and easily the highlight of my meal. The fries were decent, though I wish they had been a little crispier. My wife had the 12 West Super Beaker Tropical IPA and the carnitas bowl. We also shared the fried pickle chips. Parking can be a bit of a hassle since all the nearby downtown Tempe garages are paid parking, but there are at least several options within walking distance. Nothing on the menu was appealing to us at the time of our visit but we did see some good looking dishes come out. Menus are barcodes and you order and pay online. For some reason, my online check stopped working so I wound up paying with the server. We tried to assemble a puzzle but so many pieces were missing. The game librarian introduced herself so my friends asked if they check if all pieces are in a game or set when someone turns them in and the person said no. We really didn't understand why she was there then lol charging a fee for games and puzzles when they have so many missing pieces is annoying. I have been coming to Snakes & Lattes in Tempe for several years now. Every time I have stopped by, I have had a great experience. The food is excellent. I like that they have a nice selection of food on their menu. While everything on their menu I have tried has been great, their macaroni and cheese stands out the most. It is some of the best macaroni and cheese I have ever had. You can never go wrong with their desserts either. I have tried every dessert they offer, and they are all fantastic in their own way. To the best of my memory, Snakes & Lattes is where I had my first affogato. While I have had an affogato from several restaurants now, Snakes & Lattes is where I had my initial one. The affogato is a perfect combination of sweet and bitter. Their skillet cookie and waffle sundaes are also excellent choices if you are craving anything sweet. The staff is friendly and attentive. To my knowledge, the only time I have been there is during lunchtime, which tends to be their quietest time during business hours, as they have told me and from experience. Thus, I have had some friendly conversations with the staff about sports and what they enjoy doing for fun outside of work. Another thing I like about Snakes & Lattes is its low-key atmosphere. Not only are there many board games to play, but it is also a brilliant spot to unwind and get a breather in before resuming the workday. It also helps that Snakes & Lattes is within walking distance of my workplace. Hostess Gwen was a lovely presence as soon as a I walked in. Very warm and personable. She came and got me as soon as our group was starting to sit. Bartender Izzy was equally a sweetheart so first impressions, great as soon as I walked in! Our group server Letty was darling. I ordered the giant club sandwich, light on the ham. It was just okay in my opinion but other guests love it! The bread was warm and soft which I enjoyed. I was hoping for crunchy iceberg lettuce but turned out they only had romaine. I didn't find myself as impressed by this club as I usually am. The bacon was also a bit dry and laking in flavor and crisp. An iceberg option would be great in the future! I'm used to a club having a bit more texture and more flavorful mayo, tomatos, etc so wouldn't order this one again. Someone in our party ordered a Nutella latte sounded fabulous. Love all the nostalgia games too (I haven't seen crackers in my bed since I was little)! I ordered strawberry spinach salad and friend ordered the wings. The drinks and food came out really quickly so we could easily enjoy the meal in the allotted time. The salad was fresh and a great size. It was really flavorful and I devoured every bite (I usually prefer to order with dressing on side but it wasn't too drenched so I could enjoy it). They also have a dice shot--you roll the die and get a shot from a numbered $6 shot lost, and you even get to keep the die! I wanted to come here for the longest time, and I FINALLY made it!! I found out their brunch trivia morning on a Sunday and I committed to making it this time with my lovely friends!! The entire experience was lovely. The flow was smooth. There were no awkward moments and we were given plenty of time to order our food and beverages (via a QR code) eat, and chitchat with each other in between parts of the trivia game. The hosts were lovely and they sounded loud enough for everyone to hear (their AV system is great), so even if you're seated at a corner, you'll be fine.
