Food and coffee were really good. Service was just okay--the woman taking our order wasn't very friendly, but it didn't come off as rude, just maybe an off day. We ordered the strawberry waffle and a sausage breakfast sandwich. The kids loved the waffle, and we both enjoyed the sandwich. The mocha cold brew with cold foam was also a great pick. Great spot in Tempe. Came in for a quick coffee after mass and a snack. The girls at the front were nice and got our coffee quick. The spot is cute and small and has a cool board and here you can buy a friend coffee. The waffle taco was good, a little sweet but to be expected with Nutella and banana topped with powder sugar. read more

Really nice coffee spotting Tempe! I had a latte with oatmilk. The coffee was amazing. Not bitter at all. They have a lot of different flavors you can add to your coffee or latte. There were some sugar free options as well. My boyfriend had the chai latte. It was good, but it was so so sweet. Would definitely get half sweet next time if possible. The Nutella and Banana waffle was also really good. I thought the prices were reasonable as well. The Marvel art inside is really cool and I enjoyed looking it over while I drank my coffee. There are about 5 tables inside and some outdoor seating as well. The service was excellent and our barista was friendly. Would definitely come back! read more

Heard great things about Happy Joe Coffee, so decided to check it out one weekday afternoon. There's limited paid street parking as well as a garage nearby, I think. The shop is cute and cozy. Loved the Marvel art on the wall! There aren't many tables, so if you're looking to work or study, it's best to arrive early to grab a spot. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was tempted to try a new-to-me drink, but decided to go with my usual, an oat milk latte with honey and cinnamon. To my surprise, they had it on the menu! They call it the "OG Granola." I also ordered a breakfast bagel sandwich, which had egg and cheese. The latte was delicious and well balanced. The sandwich came toasted and was tasty. The prices were very reasonable. I always enjoy checking out local coffee shops when traveling. While up in Tempe I stopped by this small locally owned coffee shop. The wall mural was rad and the coffee came out quickly despite it being a busy Saturday morning. They allow you to customize the sweetness which I always like. This place is a solid stop. I got a Vanilla Bean Cold Brew and their Turkey and White Cheddar sandwich on an everything bagel. The coffee was very tasty. I'm impressed. The sandwich was good as well. Next time though I'll ask if they can toast the bagel. It comes with a chipotle mayo that's pretty decent too. The baristas were friendly and quick. It's a small location with limited outdoor and indoor seating and parking that can be tricky. Definitely more of a grab and go situation. Fairly pricey, but good nonetheless. read more

Absolutely not. I usually come and get their strawberry waffles, which usually comes with three waffles, a couple strawberries, and some whip, whipped cream powder, powdered sugar in a side of syrup.. however today no whipped cream and there seems to be lots of black stuff on the waffles. They taste burnt, although they might not look like it. They have a really weird smell to them as well. I was gonna say maybe it's because I came later in the day so they're not fresh off the press or whatever but they don't close until 5 PM so that can't be it. I don't know what's happening it's a waste of my money and I won't be going back. Also these waffles don't come with chocolate chips. They're just regular waffles so I have no idea what that black stuff is really read more

We were staying down the street at the Residence Inn and decided to give this place a try and had we did! First of all, the customer service was excellent! Answered lots of questions for us and even offered to make a sample of one of the specials we were curious about. Beyond that, the coffee was excellent! I find they sometimes mom and pop shops have bitter espresso but Happy Joe's was excellent! And of course the mural is pretty impressive! read more

I ordered a Vanilla dirty chai with vanilla cold foam, and a Nutella waffle! Both were so tasty. The two baristas were soooooo sweet. One of them informed us that this shop is pet friendly so we brought in our pitbull and they loved him. They offered him a pup cup and water right away. One of them was even giving us tips on where to get ointment for his hotspots (we're not from here). Love the ambiance, the drinks, and the service. I've tried MANY different coffee shops for the two weeks I've been here and this is def my top two. read more

While in the Tempe area, i found it a perfect time to check out Happy Joe! Located just off ASU campus/ downtown Tempe, you can find their little spot. They do not have a parking lot, but there is ample street parking (paid) in the vicinity. We did not have any trouble snagging a spot on a Thursday afternoon, but I am sure that could be an issue during different times of the day. First of all, the staff was so welcoming and kind,. The name literally fits the space. They are happy to answer any questions and guide you through the experience. I only got coffee on this trip, a cold brew with cold foam (coconut & lavender) - would recommend, but they also offer various pastries an dbreakfast items such as customizable bagel sandwiches. You can select the type of bagel, type of filling and add on to your heart desire. There prices were very reasonable. They have a great menu with lots of flavors and a seasonal offerings. I look forward to visiting again and trying out some of their food! There space isn't huge, so i do not think I would anticipate bringing a large group or study group, but you could easily snag a spot as a single or pair, but definitely a great option if you are looking to take something to go. I asked the cashier for her recommendation and she did not disappoint! The Boston cream latte is so delicious and sweet! I got it with almond milk, and it was still so flavorful. I feel like a college student when I walked into this coffee spot even while carrying my toddler. I had their seasonal Blackberry Pie Latte with oatmilk and it was delicious! Also grabbed a slice of their OG banana bread for my son and he devoured it. There's seating inside and outside, however no restrooms. read more

Food is just okay, pastries taste artificial, coffee was pretty good but the service was horrible and that's what ruined it overall. We were the only people in the shop and weren't greeted at all. We sat at the bar waiting as the barista looked busy, but shortly after 4 people walked in and she took everyone's order ahead of ours and seemed pretty irritated. i love this place!!! i've been twice so i'll tell you about both experiences. the first time was amazing, the cashier was very kind and understanding since i was asking so many questions lol. i got a nutella banana waffle taco which was insanely good. the waffle was so fluffy and everything all together was delicious. i also ordered a cookie butter chai which wasn't my favorite but only because i forgot to ask for it as a latte instead of a chai lol (i don't like chai) despite how great my first visit went, my second visit was okay. the cashier then was pretty rude and she didn't really speak to us. she would just walk away and it felt like she was making faces. even when we asked questions she gave one worded responses. anyway, we ordered a jalapeño cheddar bagel with cream cheese and a pizza bagel (and just some regular black coffee with cream and splenda). the pizza bagel was pretty good i can't lie, but the other bagel was okay. it was kinda hard and a little dry last but not least, the overall vibe of the place is actually really nice. they have a small patio out front with tables and chairs and some seating inside but it is a pretty small cafe so just be aware read more

Sunday Morning Coffee at this cute spot was successful. Parking was a little different at 11am. I walked in and there are seats outside and inside. Ordered a vanilla bean cold brew with almond Milk and a the breakfast sand which of the month (turkey and white cheddar on bagel of your choose. I picked an everything bagel) The sandwich was disappointing. The bagel wasn't really toasted or heated up. The cheese wasn't melted either, maybe should be for the future for $8. Sent BF to pick up the spring seasonal drink, chunky monkey latte. Unfortunately, spring seasonal drinks have rotated out and summer seasonal drinks have rotated in. The closest drink to the chunky monkey latte, per the barista, is the iced banana crème pie; she reported the only difference is that there is no peanut butter. I worried that the coffee might be too sweet based on other reviews, however, I found it about as sweet as the average Starbucks drink. While the drink was good, it definitely did NOT taste anything like banana; I definitely agree with Hailey's review- drink names are misleading. If I'm in the area, I would consider ordering again but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

Had a hard time finding parking on a Saturday morning - note that there is no free parking in this area. Happy Joe was not crowded so I was able to order right away. Ordered an almond milk latte with two pumps of cookie butter syrup, and it was so good. It was pricey as most coffee shops are these days with alternative milk being a dollar extra. Cute little coffee shop in Tempe! I'm trying to visit every coffee shop in the valley and I still have a handful in Tempe I still need to visit! Had a hard time parking but it was fine. It was not busy at all, I ordered and got my drink right away. I ordered an iced oatmeal cookie latte with oat milk. It was delicious! Very flavorful and really did give off an oatmeal cookie taste. This place is newer in Tempe but it's such a hidden gem. I lived down the street for over a year before coming here and I wish I had tried it earlier. The first time I came, I had the barista recommend me a drink with my preferences and it came out perfect- I love strong cold brew with a little bit of sweetness and she gave me the vanilla bean cold brew 1/2 sweet. I got it again today and it was just as good as I remember. Every time I come to Tempe I stop by here now. There's indoor and outdoor seating, and the baristas are always super friendly. It was absolutely delicious and the best part of the dining experience. The BLTA (Bacon Lettuce Tomato Avacado) sandwich was way too heavy on the lettuce and the bread was quite hard, making it difficult to eat. It was moreso a handheld salad. Service was okay, though not especially attentive, as our water wasn't refilled. At the host stand there was some confusion when we arrived. She didnt realize we were standing there and then when my boyfriend asked a question about a menu item she didnt respond. Not sure if she was just not paying attention, the music was too loud, or didnt want to converse with us. Sort of awkward. Overall, the experience was mixed, but the butter cake French toast was delicious.

I got their spanner matcha which was described to be salted maple flavoring. I'm not sure if it was the matcha or the maple but it had a weird aftertaste that I can seem to describe it other than an expired taste. Because the employee gave me a warning before I would go back and try something else in hopes of a better experience.
