I've been to this location twice now. The staff is friendly, the servers do a good job. They are attentive, even when you're at the pool tables. The ages of customers range from 21-50, so it seems like anybody can enjoy their time here. My one issue, the DJ. His music picks are ok, mostly early to mid 2000's music, but he was BLEEPING THE BAD WORDS last night, at 12am, while people were on the dance floor. I laughed. I recently checked out Mill's Modern Social for a friend's pre-birthday gathering and it is super cute inside! A lot of pop culture paintings and signs, which I absolutely loved. There is a small arcade area, Photo Booth, large Connect 4, pool tables & plenty of seating. There was a UFC fight being shown this night so I did have to pay a cover by the time arrived which I thought was a little ridiculous due to it not being a packed out space but nonetheless my purchase allowed me a ticket to redeem for a free green tea shot (with purchase). I had also just missed the happy hour end time so that was kind of a bummer. I went ahead and ordered the Grilled Wings in Lemon Pepper Dry Rub flavor, I also wanted them tossed in buffalo but to avoid a surcharge had to get the buffalo sauce on the side. I am a fan of pool halls and like the chill vibe here. Plus I grew up in this area of Tempe and it brought back memories to be hanging out around my old digs again. We got a drink, but didn't order any food. It looks like they have a good size food menu. I wouldn't mind grabbing some wings next time. Mill's Modern Social also has a bunch of TV screens. They are a great place to catch a sporting event. There is free pool before 5pm if you order $10 in food and beverage. After that, they charge hourly. What a cool place! You'd have no idea from the outside just how big it is inside. So "modern" inside, hints the name. TONS of pool tables, I didn't count how many but one entire side is designated just for that. Cute couches all over the place for cute pics and chillin... many more tables to sit and dine at. Only CON of the night- When you purchase a game card, you get credits... and the amount of credits divided by the number of credits needed to play one game, will always leave you with a leftover amount of credits you cannot use Amusementconnect.com is definitely making their money and making it unfair to customers everywhere. I've been on a Saturday during games and once during a Sunday (one of the Packer's home bars here in the valley). No food this time around and I decided to soak in the vibe and think about what kind of event I could easily host with friends. Definitely planning to return back for a happy hour as they have plenty of seating and pool tables & TVs throughout the restaurant to accommodate the team. Was charged a 20% gratuity even though I came alone, when asked they said because I was there for the game I was part of their event. My mom and I went to play a some late night pool around 9pm, because they had pretty decent pool tables. But at around 10pm, lots of young college kids showed up and they had no respect for pool table area. At least 20 college kids were standing around one pool table with no space at all for us to shoot. We consistently had to tell them to move but since they were drunk, they were rude and placed their alcohol beverages on our pool table. This venue has so much space they don't use and should be more strict with who can enter the pool table areas late at night. We left unhappy. read more

The asian bartender male was highly unprofessional, dismissive, unapologetic, and problematic. It seemed he favorited customers he knew vs high paying customer. JILL really reconciled my concerns. She listened, made a quick decision based on customer service principles, and ensured that we felt valued as high paying customers. This is a situation of yin and yang. I received very negative experience initially, but Jill made sure that my experience was not darkened by her counter part. This speaks to Jill management capabilities. As someone who manages a team of over 20 people in a different industry I found Jill's feedback to be refreshing and it is the only reason why I will return to modern social in the future read more

We sat at a high table kinda by the pool tables. 15 minutes went by before we finally decided to grab somebody. They said somebody would come by shortly. 5 mins later somebody finally came and took our order which was just 4 beers. The beers didn't come for about 10 mins. We just wanted to play pool, and the way they charge for pool is very weird. I feel like we were overcharged. The server we had said we were charged per hour per person. This was one of the best burgers I've ever had at a bar-like food place. It was seasoned very well and cooked to perfection. The onion ring was crispy and they put 2 full sized thick bacon strips that may have been candied. The fries were seasoned and crispy as well. The service was okay. There weren't many people in there so I feel like the service could have been better. For example, my water was never refilled and we sat at the bar. The look of the place was very modern and it looked fun. There were places for you to sit in a group and possibly play games. There were pool tables (not sure of the prices). My second time here and again it didn't fail me!!! Deana thank you for seating me in our own living room section with our own 2 televisions. This place has great VIP type sections and are perfect for parties, groups of people, out of town guests or even for hanging with pals. You can also bring your kids here, to play video and table games while you grownups are socializing which, I've seen. Yasmin you are a trooper for stepping up, taking over as our waitress and keeping us filled with food and beverages/cocktails. I didn't know that after a certain time that it becomes a club like spot for the ASU crowd in which security with bullet proof best on steps up to secure the place... who knew! Never been here before but a friend was having a birthday celebration and I went. Very nice friendly environment and close to home as well which is a plus. Family friendly as well seeing families with children so that was nice to see. Pool tables, areas for some privacy if you're on a date. Food was lacking and pricy for what they had, me and some other ladies that were with her party ordered their seasoned fries and I think we had 3 plates of them. Terrible service and management. Owner told us he wasn't going to cash out individual tabs and that we would HAVE to get all orders on 6 cards, max. There were about 15 of us out that night and happened to meet up there. No reservation or anything, just happen to meet there because we work down the street. Turns out he was trying to force a mandatory 20% gratuity because there were a lot of us....on a Friday night. We all came separate and met up there, with different plans. Why are you trying to force us to pay a mandatory tip? We refused and got our own tabs. We had to chase down servers to get help when the place was pretty empty (sun was still up). We found our server hiding by the arcade games; she was eating. Normally this wouldn't bother me, but when it takes 20-30 minutes to get our drinks or food orders in, it's kinda of annoying we have to leave our table to go find her. Some of our friends got kicked out at 7pm, on a Friday because an off the clock bartender tried to pick a fight over a seat at the bar, where paying customers were trying to order drinks. The pool pricing is very confusing we go about 3 times a month and are told pool is 10$, pool is free with purchase so we usually get a soda. We go today and the server tells us pool is free with purchase of alcohol or food. What a beautiful billiards bar! I think they must have recently opened as our friends we were visiting had no idea they were here. My husband and I were in town visiting our friends. We split up for the afternoon while the guys went to a few bars and met up with them later in the afternoon here, at Mill's Modern Social. The inside of this place is huge! The guys were playing pool and I think they charge you per hour. There are row and rows of pool tables which is pretty cool, as well as some other games if you want to play those, too. They also have a lot of lounge seating, some even in front of the tvs, too, which this would be a pretty cool spot to grab a drink and some bites and watch a game! We played pool for a couple hours and got a few different drinks. I got one of their specialty cocktails, though the name is escaping my brain right now. Gave up trying to order or enjoy time here. The Cuban I had once was amazing, but the service and management is poor. Anytime I tried to call to place a pickup the phone either never got answered or I was told to hold and eventually would be hung up on. OK, I popped in at what us decidedly a downtime for this bar/restaurant. Quiet afternoons are probably not what Mills Modern Social is all about, but I had a nice experience. We sat at the bar and were helped by Madison. She's a rock star! Since she was alone she had to help everyone, including people sitting in far-flung corners of this large establishment. For food, the BBQ Pork Sliders are a MUST. Madison explained that they're a new addition to the menu and damn they're good! The Mill Ave Nachos were also nice and the portion size was generous. And any place that has Tower Station IPA on draft is a keeper. There are plenty of TVs and games throughout the restaurant. You can make a visit here anything you want it to be. Honestly, the prices seemed a little steep but costs are rising everywhere. But if you're passing through the neighborhood, Mills Modern Social is worth a visit. read more
