On a crazy windy, raining day we popped into one of Blanco's newest locations located right next to the University, North Italia and Eureka. We grabbed a seat at the bar for some great service and to enjoy their happy hour offerings. On happy hour they features a selection of refreshments that included margaritas, beer and more. Plus an array of tacos for six dollars each and a variety of appetizers that include guacamole, nachos, smash burger and warm queso. We always enjoy the restaurant's tart margaritas! Well balanced! In addition to happy hour we ordered their shrimp fajitas- I think for the price we were a bit disappointed with the size- the entrée came with approximately six small shrimp. Plus only three taco size tortillas. When we asked for more tortillas we were charged six dollars for more tiny tortillas- we were disappointed with this addition as the first offerings of tortillas was small. Too small for the entrée. Plus the shrimp were a bit overcooked. As for service- we had amazing service at the bar. We appreciated the bartenders attentiveness. The restaurant vibe is nice and new! Very open space. Plus a large patio area for nice days. Based on this experience- we will definitely be back for drinks....as for a meal, we would probably skip based on size, quality and cost. We were a party of two, and sat at the bar. They have a happy hour that ends at 6pm, we sat down just before 6 panicking about missing HH because it 10 minutes before anyone spoke to us. The guy next to us said he'd ordered a drink a while ago and still not received it. That's really my biggest complaint, was the initial service. After we ordered drinks and food, it was all delicious. Our bartender was funny, and charged us the HH price, so we walked out happy. We'll try it again next time we're in the area. read more

Service was not good. My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch before work, and I believe the waitress assumed we were college students who would not tip. We both wanted to try the one drink, one app, one meal, one dessert promotion that was happening at multiple restaurants in the area- and the waitress was rude, dismissive, and ignored us while attending to several other tables (with older attendees). She noticeably gave the other tables better service and brought their food out quicker despite us having arrived earlier? Food was also subpar compared to the Biltmore Blanco location- my beans and rice were cold, which was disappointing because I LOVE the buttery Blanco rice. We got our desserts to go since we were fed up with the awful service and the flan was okay- nothing special, and the fruits were soggy (it sat for less than 30 minutes, we ate it at home). Could be a great restaurant, but staff need to work on customer service + timely delivery of meals. However, the decor was beautiful and the salsa + chips were fresh and flavorful. read more

We were at a basketball game at Mullett arena and saw this cute area of shops. Came here on a Tuesday evening. My friends and I saw Blanco and wanted to check it out. We have been to this chain before and have had great experiences. And this one was just as wonderful! My boyfriend and I split the short rib machaca chimichanga. It was delicious! We were both more than FULL and had some leftovers by the end. Full of flavor! Delicious. We would both order again. For our side we opted for the beans that the waitress said had bacon bits in it, but we didn't taste or see any bacon in it. Our other friends ordered chicken taquitas and short rib machaca burrito. And they ordered the chicken tortilla soup too! They loved both of their main entrees, which were also big servings and they had leftovers. I've been to a different location and the food wasn't great, but my experience at this location went better though they are definitely still working out the kinks. The location is very nice, with a darker, cozy but upscale interior and a large patio. The inside is spacious and tables aren't crammed together, and the music and volume were perfect. Chips and salsa are good. The salsa is a bit sweeter than I'd prefer. It also comes in this tiny, practically a ramekin sized bowl for 4 people. Our server was nice about getting us more. My margarita was good but arrived without salt. Minor, but should be checked before bringing it. I had the carne asada burrito which was pretty good other than being cold. We had other order issues at the table (actually wrong food) so I didn't want to add to the chaos and just reheated it at home later. The rice tastes like margarine. A LOT of margarine. I wish they just had Mexican rice. I love Mexican rice. I'm never eating their rice again. Someone must like it though! So I've been here twice and the restaurant is beautiful with lots of different seating options and the service has been great. My biggest issue is the food is just mediocre. The "queso" was basically nacho cheese sauce and the beef taco for happy hour was worse than Taco Bell for $6. Drinks were fine. Maybe I picked the wrong things, but the Blanco in Scottsdale I remember a couple years ago being really good. The parking is bullshit and basically valet only. For $10. Whoever designed this area did not consider traffic flow at all and if you do self park it is not close at all to the restaurant. If you want good ambience like this but way better food, go to the Barrio Queen at Tempe marketplace instead. read more

Visiting Phoenix and stopped in for a "daddy-daughter dinner date". I must say the service was great. Our server Alex was on top of it. Her energy, professionalism, and overall attentiveness made for a wonderful experience. It's like she was reading our minds. We received our food and drinks in record time. I was shocked. Not because my expectations were low but because they far exceeded them. All the food was amazing as well!!! EVERYTHING we ordered was great! I'm talking every single ingredient. Has a good little Happy Hour menu $5 beers, $6 tacos, $7 queso ( normally $13!). Had some really good grilled shrimp tacos. Opted for the corn tortillas ( choice of corn or flour) since they note the corn are made in house. Right choice. The tortillas are super moist and soft unlike most places which can tend to be so dry and sometimes even brittle. They almost borderline a flour tortilla they are so soft. The tacos have red cabbage and a creamy avocado green sauce and a green salsa sauce. Very good flavor on the shrimp & perfectly grilled. Tried a bite of the pork chile verde enchiladas and they had amazing flavor as well. Nothing was very spicy hot if you're worried about heat. I would say it was all very mild which I love flavor of the chiles more than heat. The service was great and the ambiance was just right with a great patio and plenty of large party seating. My best friend and I were SO excited to come to Blanco Tempe for Arizona Restaurant Week, but this experience was honestly awful. I clearly told our server I have an avocado allergy, yet avocado was still brought out in my queso. We immediately pointed it out, then had to wait several more minutes for it to be corrected. This isn't a small mistake--it's a food allergy and should have been taken seriously. After that, the service completely fell apart. Our margaritas came out with little communication, we weren't given fresh chips with the replacement queso, and our server barely checked on us. I understand restaurants get busy--I've worked in the industry--but we had to flag down a busser just to get someone back to our table. To make matters worse, we never received the dessert included in the Restaurant Week meal we paid for. When a manager eventually came over, she didn't even introduce herself as the manager--we had to ask who she was. By that point, we just wanted our check and to leave. What makes this so disappointing is that we came in genuinely excited and ready to have a great night. Instead, we left feeling completely disregarded. Mistakes happen, but ignoring a stated food allergy and then providing such poor follow-up and incomplete service is unacceptable. I would not return based on this experience, ever! read more

The food selection is great, although I always steer towards the chimichanga - a full meal in itself. Choose the relaxed patio or the comfy dining room with nice large tables, either is great for a date night. The vibe at the Tempe location is young and hip. Really outstanding service (shout out to Phoenix, our warm and friendly waiter). Very reasonable prices. read more

We had a 6:30 reservation and were seated immediately. After being seated, we waited about 15 minutes without being greeted by our server. Around 6:45, a server from another section noticed and asked if we had been helped. When we said no, he brought us water and said he would let our server know. About 10 minutes later, our server, who I believe was named Rose, came to the table. Her attitude was unfriendly and dismissive. We ordered the guacamole appetizer with no cheese, but it came out with cheese. When I pointed this out, she rolled her eyes, took the guacamole, and did not say a word. My husband and I received a gift card for Blanco and we finally had a chance to use it. The ambiance is very nice, the restaurant is quite big, but not very noisy at all. My husband had a combo platter that he thoroughly enjoyed and I went for a fish taco and a quesadilla con pollo. While the food is not authentic Mexican food, it should be noted that it's tasty, and very appetizing. The salsa had a very nice tang, not too mild, and not too spicy. This is probably the best Blanco we have been too. We went in on a Sunday after morning mass so it was still pretty quiet in the restaurant so we enjoyed the quiet. The restaurant is located in Tempe next to ASU campus and an apartment building with a cute park by it. Parking can be tough to find so we ended up valeting our car for just 10 bucks. The restaurant had a great layout to it, with a nice outside seating area. The food was delicious. We decided to do the restaurant week menu since it was the last day. The guac was good, definitely could use a bit more salt and some lime juice. The chips and salsa were amazing. We added a cheese crisp to our order and it was also delicious. By the time we got to entrees we were ready to tap out. Only took a couple bits of the entrees and there were still delicious. The rings burrito had great flavor, the short rib enchiladas were also very good and the rice and beans along with it were to die for. The restaurant menu also included a dessert and we ordered the Carmel Apple Empanadas. They were delicious. The restaurant week menu included and margarita for each person and they were delicious. Some of the best margaritas in the valley. The restaurant week menu was a steal with it being $55 dollars per couple, yes per couple and we got everything pictures with the exception of the cheese crisp, we ordered that extra. Best restaurant week deal we found. Our server was really good as well. He was really knowledgeable about the menu and locations as well. We try to eat at Blanco each time we are in Phoenix because it's been so good. We've tried the downtown and Scottsdale locations which have been great. We saw they opened this one in Tempe and tried it out. There is no parking on site so you have to park at the nearby structure and get your ticket validated. They struggled to bring out chips and salsa to the table multiple times. Food took forever (about 1 hour after ordering). The food itself was luke warm and didn't have much flavor. The place is also extremely loud and you struggle talking to the people in your booth. The one good thing was our waitress who was amazing. We won't be coming back here as the other locations have been soooooo much better. read more

Blanco is a 4.1 but I rounded up. I had my dogs with me so we sat outside. It was 90f but they didn't have the misters on while eureka did. The OKC vs nuggets game was on but our sections tv was off. I asked the hostess if she could turn it on. The tv was off the whole time. The complimentary chips and salsa are very good. Usually restaurants would use the pain in the butt thin chips. The chips here were thicker. The enchilada was great. I got a strawberry margarita. The server didn't ask if I wanted sugar or salt. My drink came without either. The server offered to fix it, but I already drank out of it. So I turned it down. The ribs that were added to the nachos was a bit salty. Besides that, the food was too notch. We originally went to The Other Mexican Food Restaurant across the street, and after waiting five minutes to be seated, then over five minutes for someone to wait on us, we left. The service was fantastic, we were seated promptly and our server was out with menus and took our drink order very quickly and returned with excellent chips and salsa. The chips were flavorful, the salsa was excellent. My wife had the Cobb Salad, I went with the three enchilada plate. The food came out very quickly, even though they were a bit busy with Taco Tuesday. My wife was very happy with her salad, though there was a slight problem: the kitchen accidentally forgot the chicken! Our server brought it out quite promptly. My enchiladas were excellent. The plate has one shredded pork, one cheese, and one chicken tinga. I went with black beans in addition to the rice. I loved the enchiladas, though the chicken just wasn't my thing. My wife thought it was excellent, I was looking for more flavor. I expect I'll be going for the pork on our next visit. But what surprised me was that the rice was amazing! I'm not normally a fan of rice as a side for Mexican food, in this case none remained on my plate. My final positive is that their patio is dog-friendly. That earns a hearty endorsement from my wife and I. It was kind of noisy with the Rural Road traffic, but the semester has just started and the kids don't realize how much work they should be doing.
