When we walked in, there was open seating, so we were able to choose our own table. It wasn't crowded at all, which made for a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. The restaurant has only been open for about a year, and from the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming. The music was great, the décor was nice, and everyone we encountered was friendly, kind, and down-to-earth. Our waitress, Tam, was absolutely AMAZING! She was personable, attentive, and gave us some really great recommendations on both food and drinks. And let's talk about the HAPPY HOUR! They offer happy hour EVERY DAY from 12 PM-4 PM, including weekends! That was a huge bonus for us because so many restaurants don't offer weekend happy hour. We definitely wanted to take advantage of it since this was our first visit. Here's what we ordered: Belgian Waffle & 3 Fried Chicken Wings -- The waffle came with whipped cream and a strawberry on the side. Delicious! Happy Hour Dance Basket -- $8 -- Fried okra, French fries, and onion rings. We added lemon pepper seasoning on top, and it was SO good! My friend that ordered the Hennessy cocktail did not enjoy her cocktail as it tasted like Hennessy and sink water. I got the tequila cocktail that was on the happy hour menu and was very weak, however when I added a shot of tequila to the cocktail, it was much better. Nonetheless, I just stuck with three dollar beers instead cause I knew what I was getting out of the situation. Onto the food, kind of a mixed response. My friend that got the fried chicken sandwich was a little underwhelmed with it because the french fries were not seasoned. Also, while the chicken sandwich was huge, it was kind of hard to eat and so she did not enjoy her food, but she did like her her mozzarella sticks that she ordered on the side yet those came with ranch after asking the server no less than three times and they did not offer a marinara sauce. My friend that ordered the fish and wings enjoyed her meal. The fish was cooked really good. I got to try some of it and I was impressed with the seasoning. However, it was supposed to come with either coleslaw or potato salad and literally they brought out a container of less than 2 ounces worth of potato salad that was ridiculous. I have never seen that ever and you cannot state that this is a side when it was less than one spoonful. For my food, I ordered the jerk chicken soul food plate, which was priced at a reasonable amount and included two sides, which I opted for the macaroni and cheese and the greens. I thought that the jerk chicken was slightly undercooked. And I was able to reheat it up the next day and it was more to my liking. For the sides I did enjoy the greens. They were very flavorful and cooked just right. The mac & cheese was nothing really special. However, it was OK. I also ordered the fried chicken by which I wanted to try. I have nothing negative to say about the fried chicken. It was done really well and I would order that again. I actually mostly just ate on that at the restaurant and took the jerk chicken home to cook it a little bit further. Overall, it was a long eating engagement. We didn't end up getting our food for a long time after we put in the order. First, we had to wait till 3 PM to order the soul food items and then even still our food didn't come out for almost another another 50 minutes and our food did not come altogether. So some dishes came out at different times and my dish actually came out lukewarm but my fried chicken came out hot. So they need to coordinate the kitchen a little bit better hands-down it needs to decide if there is a restaurant or is this a bar. Because my perception was supposed to be a restaurant, but it was more operating like a dive bar. Definitely no shade at all. I would come back to see if they work out some of the kinks as I was digging the environment. The staff were really friendly. The table was clean and the music was a vibe. I just know next time to come not hungry because it might be a while before I get my food and I would probably specify to the wait staff that if you're gonna bring out the food separately anyway bring mine out when it's ready and hot as opposed to lukewarm. Also ask for everything when you order it because trying to get hot sauce, ketchup or ranch will be slow and your food will get colder. Other than that, this restaurant has a strong Chicago vibe, including the menu, which was very much dedicated to all things in the loop and in the suburbs of Chicago land. So I will come back.
