First and foremost, I am sorry to disappoint because I did NOT order the hot chicken -- as I got older, spicy food does not agree with my body -- but I bet it tastes good! My boyfriend would constantly talk about the moon pies from Monroe's, so we finally decided to get one, and just eat dinner here, as well. We each ordered the 3 piece tender + fries box with a drink since they have the GOOD soda machines here. (BTW, I mixed vanilla + coke and it was top tier!) They do not play when it comes to the portion. The chicken tenders were huge! But I'm not complaining. We both got the "Southern" flavor, which has no spice at all, and it was golden and delicious. The sauce they provide to dip it in was already spicy for me (it has a flavorful kick), so I could not even imagine eating past mild flavor. The crinkle cut fries were so crispy and very well seasoned. Though the meal was good, the star of the show was, in fact, the moon pie. It was bigger than the palm of my hand, and took up most of my face. Just thinking about it makes me sad because I can't have it right now, so you will all just need to try it. Great decision to stop by and try if you're into spicy chicken. It's a neatly decorated chicken house. At the Scottsdale Rd location, the walls are adorned with the mug shots of many famous and infamous personalities. The chicken was good. It was tender and juicy. I ordered a medium spicy (that's when you start to feel the warm) chicken sandwich. It was filled with pickles and coleslaw and surrounded by a toasted bun that rightly fit the size of the chicken and it's condiments of flavor. It was so good, that I helped myself to some of Liz's when she wasn't looking. Noah's chicken strips were good, but they needed some spice to it, he will learn. Only problem was we ordered dessert as well and unfortunately it melted as there was nothing between the dessert and the boxes that held the chicken & fries. LOVE the CHICKEN. The music and vibe in this restaurant is exactly what you want from a fried chicken restaurant. One of the cooler designs on the wall with mugshots from every celebrity you can think of. The fried chicken sandwich was good this time, it's been better the other times I've had it. The bun lacks crunch, the slaw and pickles on it provide a unique flavor to the sandwich but lacks flavor. The chicken isn't very crunchy and if you get it hot you're asking for some spice which is why I chose medium. The fries are great. I know what you're thinking, "you're saying that about crinkle cut fries, Austin doesn't know what he's talking about?" I agree crinkle cut isn't great but these are perfect. Saw the advertisement on this HOT chicken and I'm all about spicy. I ordered their original Fried chicken sandwich Hot and some crinkled fries. Was expecting a huge chicken breast that looked exactly like the picture and being juicy. For all that meat it needed some ranch on every bite. Monroe's Hot Chicken was definitely a smash. I went with friends before going to a comedy show and we grabbed the regular fried chicken sandwich, some crispy tenders, and a salad (I know, I know, almost a cardinal sin at a hot friend chicken joint!). But we also ordered some collard greens and fried pickles. Took about 15 min to get our individual orders, you walk up and order at the counter, and they call your name/number up when it's ready. The crispness of the fried pickles was nice. It almost felt like they'd been air fried, they weren't overly greasy, but lightly breaded and crisped, which was nice. The collard greens had a zing to it, and we liked that flavor. Unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy the Mac and cheese (it's my fault) so can't speak to that but someone please try it and let me know how much they love it! And finally; the sandwiches... the person taking our order asked us if we'd been to Dave's Hot Chicken because their spice is hotter because it's a "wet" sauce. I had not, so that reference didn't help, but it did scare me enough to order the medium and not the hot (which I was originally going to do). Later realized the hot (my friend ordered hot and gave me a bite), it was goooood hot, and I should have stuck to my guns. The chicken salad came with greens, tomatoes, and I ordered ranch. Their ranch style I give it a 3/5, and I'm a particularly big fan of RUNNY ranch, and this one was easily a 6 out of 10 (10 being the most runny) on the spectrum. Good flavor, nice with the pickles. Containers were pretty small and they gave me two. The place was fairly empty when we arrived, maybe 2 guests, music was loud, felt fresh and cool in there, and there are tables along side the wall. Not a lot of room for big parties or groups but then again; I'm sure they'd be able to make some accommodations if you did come with a crowd. You have to go past the building and park in the back and in a garage and walk out. Not super hard to figure out but not as easily findable as I would like. Now that I know it's easy, it's fine. And most of the fountain drinks were unavailable. The tea and lemonade didn't put out anything so I tried to get one of their fountain sodas, i tried 4 and all of them sprayed out all over my hand instead so I can see why a lot of the floor is sticky. I had the Belgian waffle chicken sandwich which was placed in a rectangular cardboard box and then put in a paper bag with handles for easy carrying. The chicken was super crispy and crunchy. The chicken was white meat and was on the dry side. Since they fry the chicken in peanut oil the batter had a bit of a nutty flavor to it which I enjoyed. I got this "Southern style" which means no spice since I would inevitably be sharing it with our tiny tyke. I'd been meaning to try Monroe's, however, with the hours of 11AM-4PM daily it's been a little hard. Yesterday I placed my order online through their website which redirected me to their "Chownow" page. No additional fees but I did have to create an account to be able to enter my card info; slightly annoying. My pickup time was about 20 minutes after I ordered. There is parking in front of the restaurant if it's not taken/you are good at parallel parking LOL. For others like me there is a free parking garage 150 feet away; there are arrows directing you towards it. There is also some ground level parking a little further over by Sweet Republic. There is outdoor seating in front of the restaurant as well as seating inside. I noticed at least one TV playing the game inside. The music was quite loud and I could see it being a difficult place to catch up with friends. I took my food to go, home. Fried chicken sandwich, $12: I ordered mine in "Extra hot" which is only one level less than the spiciest, "What da cluck," bf's order. I requested no pickles in the notes but pickles still made their way onto his sandwich. At first I bit into his and it was hot, alright, but not to the point I needed immediate water. I was a little underwhelmed, tbh. However, when you continue eating "What da cluck," you get a slow burn that is DEFINITELY hot! But not so much so that it isn't enjoyable. Comparable to the hottest level of BWW wings. Overall actually well done. Bf did have an upset stomach the rest of the night and when I asked him if he'd get it again he said yes lol. So take that for what you will. The "Extra hot" was literally no hotter than regular hot cheetos lol. Very mild and very disappointing as far as spice level and also inconsistent; extra hot is supposed to be one less level spicy than the what da cluck but there is a MAJOR difference between the two levels. As for the rest of the sandwich, the chicken is wonderfully thicc and moist; the bricoche bun is a nice touch and the slaw is a good compliment to the sandwich. We shared the crinkle fries, $3.50. Crinkle fries are always good and they're seasoned with cajun seasoning (not spicy lol). Bf thought they were a bit crispy but I disagree. I also ordered a side of "Kick it up!" sauce for .50. This is the orange sauce that is included on the sandwiches. Good but I'd probably skip ordering a side of it next time. And today I tried ordering online for pick up ( to avoid the negativity because I do love the food) and they didn't have all of their menu items so I called and asked to place an order over the phone. The guy who took my call told me he can't take my order over the phone and that I need to do it online. When I told him I tried but they didn't have all their menu items his response was "oh well did you try DoorDash? Or uber eats?" And I replied yes that it wasn't all on there. Definitely lives up to the hype! Me and my gf have been wanting to try this place for so long and we finally did at this Tempe location. The décor inside is nice and modern as they played great throwback music. The service was above and beyond amazing, as one of the workers gave us the rundown of the menu and what's best. The popcorn chicken plate wasn't listed on the menu at the time but the worker went back herself to drop a fresh batch immediately for us. In addition, she gave us a free shake to try out! I had the extra spicy chicken sandwich, which was delicious as my gf had the hot popcorn chicken. Everything was seasoned perfectly and the dipping sauces provided make it even better! This isn't the first time that this has happened. But I can say, that I will not be returning. Order 2 3 piece chicken strips. One country, one very very hot. And I asked them to label it so that way we know which one is which. They did that, but as soon as i got my order, came back, and on the 2nd piece, my mouth is on fire, vs my buddy who is wondering why his wasn't spicy. Finalllllllly a Monroe's in Tempe!! I've loved this place but it's hard to go to the downtown location especially with their limited hours. Luckily this location is open much later. The staff were nice even with such a busy crowd. The food was on point just like the downtown location.
