    Inside Mekong

Best chicken sandwich I've had in a long time! Zhengxin Chicken Steak is located inside the Mekong food court, just past Happy Bao's but before Dim Sum. I ordered on the kiosk which was easy. They send you a confirmation text when it goes through. I did the Spicy chicken sandwich, fries, and canned coke combo which was $11- on par for fast food. The sandwich on its own was $7. It took less than 10 minutes. There are sides of ketchup, honey mustard, ranch, and sweet chili sauce available. The brioche bun was soft and pillowy. The chicken was not spicy, disappointingly, despite the dusting of red spices. It was no spicier than a McChicken. It was crisp, fried, and juicy. It was also a generous portion of chicken. The ranch and honey mustard were good, they tasted like they were made in house. I really like the sweet chili dip! Definitely will return!

Do you remember that 90's commercial where it goes, "I feel like Chicken Tonight. Like Chicken Tonight!"? My parents never made me Chicken Tonight, so I have no idea what it is, but if it's like Zhengxin Chicken Steak, I missed out for sure. We had been wanting to stop off at this food court counter for a minute now, but there's so many good eateries in the near vicinity. Our taste test kept getting pushed back. After a Saturday morning cycle class and a quick coffee break, we wandered off to get an original chicken sandwich and a spicy chicken sandwich to go. We definitely ate and drank back our calories burned, but no regrets. It was some good chicken! It was crispy and flavorful, and we enjoyed ourselves. I do suggest getting the spicy chicken sandwich over the original, though. Come here and support this chicken place. It'll have you clucking for more.

I'm really impressed! First time trying this place last week and we already came back for seconds. Their popcorn chicken was a hit with the kids. Nice big pieces and large portion for the price ($6.50 now). I did notice within a week the price has gone up by 50 cents which sucks but still a good price for the portion size. I decided to try their spicy sandwich on the second visit. Not really that spicy, just a slight kick. I feel like for the same price, the popcorn chicken is a better deal. Can't wait to try other items but so far I really like this place. Glad that you can order on kiosk and food comes out really quick. Perfect place for a quick bite.

First, love the price. And when I took a bite of my spicy chicken sandwich, it was amazing! It was so crunchy even my friend made it that comment when I bit into my 1st bite. Very tasty. Love their dry plum! It actually taste pretty good on the chicken. Definitely will come back to try other.

This chicken was insanely delicious, I really enjoyed what I got. I got the popcorn chicken, with the crispy chicken sandwich meal, with a Fanta soda and fries. The chicken was so crispy, the crunching sound was extremely loud. So loud people next to me said: " sir we get bothered by noise we're noise experts" so then I moved but they kept scooting they're chairs closer to the table until I finally noticed they had moved directly next to me, so when I asked: " why did you move?" He screamed at me and said:" I'm an expertise on decibels i know the chicken is crunchy." Then I said: " yeah I know, it's very crunchy." And he said: " no you don't know it's crunchy I do, I know the crunchiness, I study sound." Then I said: " ok yeah you know." And he said: " yeah I do, I'm an entrepreneur my job is sound. I'm an expert." I was supper confused, so I just enjoyed my food. The survive was great, got the food given to me, yummy food, and the vibe was alright except for the guy that's obsessed with sound, stay away from him if you see him, he'll make stuff sound extra loud if he hears something kinda loud next to him, and he'll pretend you don't know about sound.

Spicy chicken sandwich made to order. Nice flavor and very crunchy. Lettuce and tomato and dressing. 4 napkin sandwich! All very good EXCEPT for the self imposed TIP on their own... Sneaky

Spicy popcorn chicken. Served with wooden skewers. They don't provide utensils or plates.

I swear I don't have it in for this place. The experience was just THAT bad. The food is just decent. We drove almost an hour to try this place and specifically the big chicken steak. First impressions we're bad. As we approached we thought they were closed. The "menu" monitor was off and there was no one at the counter. It's Christmas eve so I thought they didn't bother opening. Upon closer inspection we saw two employees sitting behind the counter in puffy lounge chairs, tapping away on their phones. Strike 1. You order via a tablet kiosk. Ordering was easy but the chicken steak was not on the menu. I asked about it and they said they've only recently opened and they have not received any yet. Huh? So was the 2nd reviewer a paid marketing shill? He has a photo of one? Strike 2. We ordered a side of spicy popcorn chicken and a bucket of wings. The wing showed pictured with a can of Pepsi. I like Pepsi. They don't have Pepsi products. They have Coke products. Even the drink menu has a photo of a can of Pepsi but the caption underneath reads COKE. Huh. This is a franchise, right? Are they violating their contact obligations? Strike 3. Time to pay. The irritating tip screen came up. This is fast food that I ordered on a tablet, will pick up at the counter, and have to dispense my own dipping sauces. Sheesh. Time to eat! The spicy popcon chicken was tasty. Not too spicy but got hotter as we ate more. It also wasn't dried out. The wings were big and juicy, but lacked flavor. I guess that's why they offer the dipping sauce. The sauces come in these tiny and shallow cups. The wings are so big you're challenged to actually dip it. We poured the sauce onto the wings instead. The batter is extremely light and crumbled as we ate. It almost seemed like the chicken was skinless and the batter had nothing to adhere to. I bet these wings would be awesome if we ordered them as spicy. The takeaway for me is low expectations. I always give a place two tries. Next time I'll get the nugget bucket so I can actually dip them. I'll also try one of their chicken sandwiches with fries AND bring my own Pepsi.

Honestly wish I took more pictures but too much grease on my hands. The chicken here was crispy but all it had was batter. These are fried 90% batter 10% chicken. I legit was just eating the batter the whole time and couldn't even finish the entire meal because it tasted very mediocre with a ton of batter. Fries were good but they legit gave waffle fries, a thinner crispy fry, and then a fluffy potato? Older guy up front is not approachable but the younger guy was doing his best and provided good service. The place is located inside of mekong and has rotated stores there for a minute now.

Heard about this place recently so I wanted try it out. Ordered the chicken burger and it was so so good. It was honestly huge for $6 and absolutely a bargain. The chicken was tender inside with a crispy batter outside. This was real quality chicken and not a pre made patty. You can taste the quality of each ingredient. Definitely the best chicken burger I have had in recent memory.

Food was excellent. It has that slight spicy Taiwanese popcorn chicken flavor but on massive pieces of tender chicken. The huge half fried chicken is absolutely picture worthy. All the food was well cooked and tasty. The wait time was a bit as they're still going through soft opening and learning the ropes. But worth the wait!

The outside honestly looked like one of those cozy restaurants you'd see in a K-drama with the glowing lights and busy vibe. When we walked in, it was already pretty packed, and more people kept coming in after us, so that's always a good sign lol. The service was also amazing and everyone was really nice. Obviously we had to order the fried chicken, and I loved that all the sauces came on the side so you could dip and try different flavors without the chicken getting soggy. And the biggest surprise for me was the cheesy corn topped with pork. I would have never thought of that combo myself, but it was actually so good. Creamy, savory, cheesy perfection. We went pretty late at night, so parking was easy for us, but I could definitely see it getting hectic during the day since it's in the same plaza as H Mart. So best to double check before going!

The flavor was very off and not enjoyable at all--I ended up throwing the entire thing away.

We checked it out last weekend, while in the area, looking for really good wings, so we could head back to the house and watch some football. This one came up on Yelp as pretty promising. So we decided to try it out. Boy was. I glad I stopped here! Now this is in a strip mall. Almost at the corner, Next to a Circle K or 7-Eleven. I can't remember which. Pretty big restaurant with several tables and booths. Clean and well lit with a large menu board. Service was prompt, and we were immediately helped by what I presume to be one of the family members and owners. This looks like a complete family operation with mom and dad and family working in the back. Definitely my kind of vibe. We decided to try a little bit of everything, including the traditional wing sauce, and the lemon pepper which is wet. That's something you usually won't find here in Phoenix and their version was fantastic. Really tangy and lemony. The traditional hot wing sauce was also notable Because so many people get it wrong. You have to have that right Balance of Vinegar, which they definitely have. Wings are decent sized and the price is actually pretty on point. I also ordered the JC burger and two of their hot Dogs. While they weren't Sonoran style, hot Dogs, the owner referred to them as Homestyle Mexican Hot Dogs, they were still really good, and as you can see from the pictures, full of fresh ingredients. I do prefer the Sonoran style though, so I would love to see them add that to the menu. The burger was decent, but I didn't find the Patty to be that substantial. Again, the toppings and the avocado were really fresh, so no complaints there. The only thing outside of that is I really wanted to try desserts, but we were headed to the pie place down the street so I decided to pass this time. But I definitely am looking forward to grabbing a banana split on my next visit!

While we waited, we ordered Cokes from the bar, and Marquis gave a warm welcome and great service! Upon finally sliding into our booth, we found the seats hadn't been brushed off - and it was very crumb-y (pun intended) - we ended up using our napkins and then grabbing new sets from a nearby table. We also learned the Coke was FLAT and bitter - not great. However our server, Calvin, during that typical greeting and small talk actually invited us to share our concerns, asking us not to hold back and as a result went above and beyond to turn our experience around. An additional visit from Manager Josh followed, apologizing and genuinely seemed to want the the feedback as a tool for improvement and coaching for some new staff. From that point, everything was great! From getting replacement drinks, to sampling the pulled pork and brisket to tender ribs, and the good sized Cajun shrimp appetizer, the team truly redeemed the evening, and the apple cobbler (it's got a pastry top!) and cinnamon sugar donuts was a great close to the meal. Calvin and Josh gave a masterclass in how to turn a meh start into a memorable meal. We're looking forward to going back - next time with a booth request upfront!
