I just missed the days when the same guy worked the grill and knew my name and my order by heart. But then, today... There was Karen. Yes, Karen!! Standing over a grill in 117° Arizona heat, she greeted us with patience, kindness, and an actual smile. She let my son take his time ordering without making him feel rushed. And when the ketchup was empty, she didn't shrug it off or point us in another direction. She didn't hand me a thousand little packets since the pump was empty. She simply took care of it. Was it just ketchup? Sure. But it also wasn't. It was someone choosing to care. When other patrons had notified other staff multiple times it was out - Karen found a simple solution without excuses! These days... that feels rare. We've spent years turning the name "Karen" into a punchline. But today, I met the kind of Karen the world could use a whole lot more of. If you're her manager and you're reading this... take good care of her. Promote her. Clone her if science ever figures that out. So as to make it easy to gauge each of these places, when I do try them, I've devised a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being outright down and dirty nasty, and 5 being the best a fast-food joint can be! I gauge: 1) cleanliness; 2) quality service; 3) product quality and consistency; 4) convenience; 5) accessibility; 6) taste; and 7) the personnel's attitude and customer service level. Although it is no longer on the menu, my favorite sandwich is the Steph Curry One, which features turkey, provolone cheese, and yellow BBQ sauce. I found out that even if something is not on the menu, they can still make it for you if you remember the combination. Some other sandwiches I like are the Hunter Pence and the Steve Nash. The service is friendly, and they are more than happy to offer suggestions on what sandwich to choose, as they have an excellent selection of sandwiches. I also like the atmosphere. It is nice and colorful, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy your food. Ike's is also a great place to go if you need to eat on the run. Once, I had to take my sandwich to go.
