RACIST ESTABLISHMENT. TL;DR--Brown people in our group were denied service, but white friends got drinks without an issue. A big group of us walked over here from Chase Field after the Filipino Heritage Diamondbacks game on Saturday afternoon (where we all got commemorative Filipino baseball jerseys and were wearing them). We came to this bar to continue celebrating our friend's birthday, and she chose this place even though it was about a mile away because she remembered it having a good vibe last time she was here a couple years ago. Spoiler alert: the vibes were not good. We were let in by security with no problems; he checked our IDs and everything. When some people in our group went up to the bar to order drinks, they all of sudden couldn't serve them because we were "too intoxicated." If our group was too intoxicated, why were we let into the bar in the first place? I decided to try getting a drink for myself and the birthday girl (both of us are Filipino). The bartender shouted at us before we got to the front of the line and even talking to us that he wouldn't serve us because we're with that group. I talked to the manager on duty who also happened to be the security guard who let us all in. I told him that it seems like the decision not to serve us was racially charged because the 2 brown dudes that went up to order couldn't get drinks, my friend and I were also denied, but the 2 white people in our group were able to get their drinks with little to no issue. The manager/security said something like, "I promise it's not that. I grew up with a lot of my close friends being Filipinos. I love your culture. I promise it's not about race." Mind you, I had ZERO drinks at the game and our 2 white friends in the group probably had more to drink than any of us. Someone will probably come in to reply and downplay the situation like, "Race or background never factors into our decisions at the door and never will." Fine. But high intoxication level should definitely be a factor in who you let into your bar, which we obviously weren't at that level since we were let in. The manager/security even said to me that he thought we were all good when he checked our IDs and that he disagreed with the bartender but couldn't override him. We weren't too intoxicated to be served, just too brown. We leave, and then we run into a group of black women. I half-joked, "Don't go to Luckys, they're racist!" That's when they let us know they also just got kicked out of Luckys. An altercation happened with them in the restroom that another patron started. If you guessed that this patron was white, you are correct. The staff took the word of the white patron without even hearing the side of the black women. They had already ordered food, but they were given their food to go and were forced to eat outside. Hearing from them that they also had issues with Luckys staff confirmed that we were being discriminated against. All this to say... if you're BIPOC, you should probably consider finding a different place to grab drinks next time you're out. read more

I was only here for a short amount of time but long enough to know that the vibe is definitely here. They had some yummy Jell-O shots and my friends ordered drinks that were good by their standards. I was hungry so no food meant no drinks for me just yet. It was nice outside sitting in the swing chairs but cold with the misters on since it wasn't actually hot out . The bartender whose name I forgot carded me upon entrance and was very nice letting me know she is here for whatever I needed. I will definitely be back to check them out again. read more

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU HAVE AN OUT OF STATE ID!!!!!! Extremely rude security! They said my ID was fake and would not give it back because it is illegal to give back a fake ID. I remained calm and was mainly just so confused because I've never had any issues with it here before. Meanwhile the security guard was being rude going on a power trip. I asked what the scanner was saying and they said it was tagged as fake in 2023. I was 19 in 2023 I'm 22 now so that makes no sense! I asked to see the screen and they refused to show me. Told me my only option was to call the police and wait for them to come check it to give it back to me. It was already after 11 so no I didn't want to wait hours for police to show up. Worst experience ever. Had to get my money back for a $12 overpriced drink. Idk if I need to say "well whiskey sour" to get $7-10 drinks but I guess I got charged $12 for the good stuff. That's not even the issue. My friend works at a bar, she's industry, and she got off and came to Lucky's to meet me and they wouldn't let her in. Apparently they stopped letting people in sometime after 1am. I was watching dozens of people walk in all of a sudden I get a call from my friend saying they won't let her in. We're all over the age of 30 so it has nothing to do with our IDs. She got denied because of the time on the clock only. So strange. I had already ordered her a whiskey sour before last call and so I went to the bartender to say "hey can you give me my money back because you guys won't even let my friend in the bar to drink this drink". And I felt so bad because she had just got off work. She couldn't even find parking so she had to walk all the way from her house just to get to Lucky's. And she couldn't drink the whiskey sour that I had prepared for her. That's like literally the worst Customer Service that can even happen at a bar. Like that's crazy. I don't know any bars that don't let people in after 1am. Gracie's will let me in at 1:59 AM literally. They have a line at 1:30am Cornish doesn't even kick people out until 2:30 AM and I'm not saying that people should bend the rules and do illegal shit, but they should have let my one friend into the bar this one time before 2 AM hits so that she could finish her drink that was already made and ready to be downed. So yeah an exception should have been made. Also I've shown up here at last call many times with no issues. I showed up during last call this night, that's why I ordered a drink right away for a friend that wasn't there yet. You would think that bartenders would understand that someone else who works at a bar really needed to get into the bar after a Saturday shift. I went to the bouncers outside to ask them to let her in and they dead ass thought I was trying to leave with my drink. They said "well you can't leave with your drink" like 3 times, I'm 31 I know the laws, this lil 22 year old man just kept saying I can't leave with my drink I DONT EVEN DRINK MY DUDE. I was trying to show them that I have a full drink that was just poured for my friend and that I just need her to get inside so that she could drink it. That took 5 minutes because they couldn't comprehend what I was asking. Yes, they should have made an exception and yes they should have let her inside to finish her drink. It was a shitty experience. We went to sazerac and got drinks immediately after leaving luckys at 1:50am.... And my friend was served immediately with a discount because she's industry. We go to luckys a lot and I've never known this rule. I'm not saying it's a fake rule but I'm just saying we show up after 1:30 all the time the rule has never touched my ears once in my life until last night. I didnt even want my money back tbh, what I wanted was to be taken care of hospitality wise. ITS A BAR. **BIPOC patrons may want to think twice before visiting.** A group of nine of us walked from Chase Field to this bar in 103-degree weather after a baseball game. When we arrived, two members of our group approached the bar together: one white male and one Filipino male. The white male was served immediately, while the Filipino male was told he was "too intoxicated" to be served. This was confusing, as the person denied service was coherent, communicating clearly, and helping gather drink orders for our group. We had all spent the day together and walked nearly a mile from the stadium without issue. Meanwhile, our white friend and his partner--who had been with us the entire time--were served without any concerns about intoxication. When we spoke with management, we were told that our group appeared fine, but that the bartender's decision would stand. The bartender then stated that he would not serve anyone associated with the Filipino male, who happens to be my partner. I was celebrating my birthday and had planned for more friends to meet us at this bar. We were forced to move our entire party elsewhere. As we were leaving, a group of Black women told us they were also asked to leave the same bar over an alleged interaction in the restroom that staff did not personally witness. Despite having already ordered food, they were required to leave and eat outside in the extreme heat. Based on these experiences, along with other recent reviews describing similar concerns, I left with serious questions about how certain patrons are treated here. I came here on a Thursday night for an event so it was pretty busy. It's always hard finding parking in this part of downtown. I had no problems with security checking my ID. Revy and Obsidian are great! Everytime I've come to Lucky's I've felt very comfortable and welcome. It's a much chiller experience then some of the other places I go, I do keep missing Mozzarepas which is unfortunate because I love it but I just drink about it and move on. Plus I like all the old school decorations. But even the clientele is a pretty cool clientele, very approachable people. OH AND THIS TIME THERE WAS A BLACK CAT, which was very cool to find out about. I'm going to address a couple of the issues in the poor reviews, I myself have a brain lesion, even when sober, I can look like I'm drunk, when I walk because my knees just give out and I also can get vertigo, I definitely can't walk a straight line or keep my balance when sober, I have also actually arrived at Lucky's with a good buzz, NO one has treated me poorly, They have very clearly evaluated me and my behavior but no one has been rude or discriminatory, just looked concerned for my safety, which is their job. I attempted to come here last night on (9/30/2024). It was a Monday night & i took an Uber here. As I was still on public sidewalk I took a hit of my MEDICAL marijuana PEN and the bouncers outside told me because they seen me smoke my pen I was not welcome inside. I'm not sure if it was a power trip over the employee/bouncers that were working or if that is a legitimate rule... but i ABSOLUTELY feel discriminated against. It's one thing to ask someone to not smoke something IN your establishment but the fact that I wasn't even ON the establishments property yet? And I am a medical patient? I will add this note, too. I am extremely respectful in any establishment I enter and DO NOT smoke my pen. The whole entire reason I hit my pen outside of the bar was to respect usual bar rules of not smoking on property. At the end, this was extremely mind blowing to me. I have never experienced anything like this in my entire life before. I've never been here and it's been on my list of bars to try for months, but now I don't know if I want to return because a rule that I'm not even sure is a "rule". I thought marijuana, ESPECIALLY medical marijuana, was legal? ADDITIONALLY - Just read the reviews and WOW you need to reconsider your employees. He asks me where I came from immediately with an odd demeanor and I said "oh I came from Gracies" because we had met up there first but I didnt even have a drink there we got there and second guessed that Luckys would be a better option so we continued on our way to Luckys instead. He then stated in a snarky manner " looks like that was your final destination for the night " and hands me my ID back. I honestly thought he was joking and chuckled it off and proceeded to try to walk in the grabs me and stops me and said " No im serious" honestly appalling.. he said that I was "stumbling" as i was walking up towards them. And I asked the lady are you the manager? She stated that she was. Then I start talking to them to try to show them that im obviously not drunk or incoherent in any way whatsoever.. my friends walk up and are trying to talk to them.. trying to explain that I or we literally hadn't drank anything yet and I think they noticed I was definitely OK not intoxicated at all but still denied entry and made some rude snarky remarks like " its not gonna work buddy" " dont even try" and just a bunch of disrespectful and unprofessional comments. It honestly felt like it was flat out discrimination. Im a Latino male and they were both White. I just filed a complainy with the BBB ( Better Business Bureau ) so expect an outreach. mind you this happened about 20 minutes ago and afterwards I called the business atleast 10 times without a response. I did leave a voicemail with all my contact information and expect a response from a GM or someone above a regular manager. Luckys Indoor Outdoor is located on Roosevelt Row next to Cobra Arcade and is a fun experience. It's got that cool ambiance with a very laid back vibe to it. The spacious outdoor patio has a camper that serves cocktails, rotating food truck cuisine, picnic tables, bocce ball and hanging chairs. It is also dog friendly. The indoor portion has a larger bar area, skee ball and a pool table. Customer service was a hit or miss. The bouncer that let us in was pretty cool and joked around with us. But bartender service was just ok and not the friendliest. I felt very rushed to decide what I wanted to drink when I went to order. I love the tunes that they play here. The 90's mix adds to the fun vibe here. I got one of their signature drinks "South of the Border" and got a nice razzing from my buddies for ordering a fruity drink - lol. It was still pretty good. The best time to come here is on a quiet weekday evening when the dim lights are on and everyone is chill. It's a good spot to relax and chat with a friend over a drink. read more

My first and only time here was honestly great. It wasn't on a First Friday (so you already know I escaped crowds and chaos) and the staff was kind and attentive. My friend and I were looking for places that have a happy hour past 6pm, and Lucky's is over at 7pm. They have indoor and outdoor lounging areas but I opted to chill inside since this summer weather is desperate to give people heat stroke. Maybe I'll go to the outdoor area in December lol. Well drinks for $4 during Happy Hour! Won't find that in many places downtown. Great place to start off a night (or even end there, which is also so valid.) The music playing is pretty random but it feels like putting my spotify liked songs on shuffle so it's fine. I also felt safe while we were in there. read more

I never write reviews but like many of the other reviews here on yelp, we too faced the incompetence of the security of this bar. We decided to stop by this bar on the way to a show downtown (that was 21+ due to alcohol) and hangout for the hour before the show started. After giving our IDs, one of the persons in our group had their ID confiscated with the employee stating that he was going to keep it since it was fake in a proud and snarky manner. After explaining it was real and that she needed her ID to not only get into our 21+ show, but to drive home, they told us to call the non-emergency number. After calling the authorities and waiting for about 30 or so minutes, no officer came in (it was the non-emergent line, who would've guessed...). We decided to move to the front so we could see when the officer arrived, to which the same snarky guy asked "oh you guys aren't sticking around?" Eventually we worked it out with them but were very late to our show due to this issue with the business. I get the need to be cautious, but we have never had this issue after visiting many of the bars downtown and in other popular areas such as Mill Ave. Plus, there was no need to be rude and snarky about it when we very clearly aren't scared and have called the police and are simply waiting for them to arrive. It's very clear the business needs to fix this issue based on the dozens of 1-star reviews of people facing similar problems with the security. I guess it was nice they decided to give our friend their government ID back but still, doesn't make up for the experience. I recommended enjoying one of the dozen of other awesome bars downtown with just as cool of ambience and much better staff. read more

Really liked the vibe of Lucky's when we walked in. Security was friendly and there was no line when we got in. Found a spot at the bar and ordered a drink from the bartender, just said something with tequila, nothing Smokey (mezcal). That first drink he made was great! Ordered the Pink Piñata Club from a different bartender and loved it! The third drink I ordered from the original bartender, he made it with Mezcal. When I said something he told me that was what was on the menu, I showed him that no it was an upgrade and not what I ordered. He took the drink, confirmed I did not want mezcal and remade the drink with no tequila. I let another bartender know when she came over to check on us and she made another drink. It was perfect and she was super friendly. The guy bartender continued to ignore me the whole rest of the night. Took drink orders from the rest of our group on either side of us. It's nothing flashy, just a security guard standing in front of a neon-lit but otherwise nondescript building that sat idly for ages. And that's what I like! I was inside very briefly--I don't do indoor drinking nowadays--and it was rad. Dimly lit with loud music, I can tell this feels cozy, intimate, and fun. The spacious patio is where it's at, and I could see myself hosting a small group of friends there. My additional issue with this place is that the owner has received several negative reviews about security but clearly hasn't done much to rectify the situation. Once again everyone, tread lightly with this establishment. It seems to me their security has a history of discrimination. I've never experienced this at any place I've been to before. Specifically in our case, two chivalrous men ensuring three women did not stand in the cold and offered we sit in the parked car right in front of the establishment (one of those men being my fiancé). And the groups behind us knew we were there previously and expressed they didn't have any issues. It would be very different if the folks behind us had issues. But we made sure to make them aware even before we went to the car. And there wasn't a line because the place was at capacity. Security was just slow at checking ids If anything this also tells me what type of men run and operate this establishment. Just sad Believe the negative reviews. Judging from those and this experience they overreact, don't fix the issue when called out and defend their nonsense. There are much more accommodating facilities in the area. Good luck read more

Went here for new years, after waiting a crazy long time in line we decided to pay the 40 dollars to cut. We get inside and it's DEAD, they weren't letting people in because they wanted people to pay to cut. Then one of our friends paid to have a "table" and it included champagne. The table was a picnic table with cheap new years decorations and the champagne was a six dollar bottle which we had to go up to the bar and ask.
