If you're into Dive bars this place is for you ! Nice cheap cold beer with a potpourri of songs playing in the background. One pool table, two dart games and an Elvis pin ball machine along with a few tables and lots of bar sitting room. We stumbled across this gem on our way home on a Thursday night, there was only a handful of people there but my pickle from a jar, corn dog , order of Tatar tots and my nice cold PBR hit the spot. This bar could be pretty decent. The service is good & friendly. I pop in here for a beer while waiting to pick people up from the airport rather than waiting in the cell phone lot. Honestly if the bathrooms were clean enough to be used- I'd give five stars. No one in my group could use the smelly restroom. Dirty condoms & flys in the urinal. My friends think of me as some upscale cocktail guy (and I am!) but I'm absolutely fascinated with checking out nondescript dive bars. The kind you can drive past 100 times without even seeing it's there. The kind where you imagine people get into serious trouble. Or for this bored Yelper, at least a place that might be interesting. The first car I saw in the parking lot was pretty old, and had a faded "Vietnam Veteran" sticker on it. I hit the jackpot. I stepped in and realized I was easily the youngest patron here. The tables and chairs were disorganized, but everyone was sitting at the bar. The men's restroom is in questionable condition, with fly traps hanging from the ceiling and graffiti covering the mirror. There were three beers on tap, all domestics, and the bottle selection wasn't about to make it any more promising. I still liked it. Why? Because it's humble. It's dirt cheap. And most of all, the bartender, Naomi does such a great job maximizing what she has to work with. Her Ice Cream Shots were delicious. Her jello shots made me nostalgic for the house parties of 2019. And best of all, her local knowledge of the valley had blown me away. It's like talking to a historian. Not saying Royale is gonna be lit, or that your friends will be happy spending a whole evening here. But I'll say there's a reason it's got some regulars. It's a slice of Phoenix that is preserved in a different era, and it's worth checking out. read more

On a mission to find the best dive bars in America, I stumbled upon this gem while in town, thanks to the glowing Yelp reviews. I was not dissapointed. The Royale Lounge reminded me of why I love dive bars. Open at 6am? Check. Wood paneling on the walls? Check. Pinball, pool, and a CLAW MACHINE? Check. Smokeeter? Check. Interesting drunk locals? Check. Bad classic rock and country on the jukebox? Check (except when I played Donna Summer and Katy Perry later in the night. No one complained. Thanks guys!) If I lived in the area, I'd definitely be a regular. Gina, the bartender on duty, was beyond friendly and awesome to talk to. I played pool all night, and got drunk for about $20. I've driven by this place many times and though curious, I had convinced myself that I would emerge from this place with a black eye and a few missing teeth should I ever venture in. We popped in on a Sunday for a few drinks between brunch and dinner. The place was divey but clean, a mix of clientele but everyone kept to themselves. The bartender was friendly and attentive and they served 8 oz beers for $2.75 (or was it $1.75.......we'd been drinking at brunch). Anyway, it worked for me having smaller beers and at less $$. Not that I'm complaining about price at all, as this place is CHEAP.....I think it just worked for me by having smaller beers. "This is the place everyone is talking about....?" Pretty sure that's what I said when I walked in. It is indeed a dive bar with cold cheap beer, but I'm not quite sure what the allure is. Sat at the bar and enjoyed a couple of draft beers for a very great price while I looked around trying to figure out what is making this become the new hipster bar. The crowd was pretty much all older men taking turns playing pool. I don't remember the music being anything special. Classic rock maybe? We had the pleasure of being served by the famous Miss Lil who was very pleasant. There were all kinds of food specials advertised on the walls but I don't know that I would ever order any food here. The bar did seem very clean, but it smelled overwhelmingly like soiled diapers. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back here though as it really didn't seem like anything special or maybe I just don't "get" it. read more

We ordered the whole menu and man you will be doing yourself a disservice if you too do not enjoy these delicacies from around the world. Didn't get his name the the male bartender was insanely courteous and accommodating. Spent 3 days straight here and couldn't have chosen a better thing to do, and neither will you. The sign says they open at 10 but Gary is making them a new one because they actually open at 11( you're welcome) Also if tacos are your thing there's a solid torta and tacos place just a few blocks away, but you won't need them once you taste these egg rolls!! Another selling point if you somehow even need one after all that the store next door has the best scorpion shirts and/or cockfighting rodeo shirts around. this is one of the best dive bars in phoenix. we go there all the time, and they have hot nuts, and cheap cigarettes, and crazy weirdos like a deaf guy with a giant beard that tried to feel my lady up and ex-hippies and old people. they have a pinball machine, and a pool table, and jukebox and a claw machine and a table pac-man and that shooting deer rifle game. unfortunately the darts are a little too awkwardly placed to play. the bartenders are amazing and have been there since probably before you were born. the drinks are pretty strong and reasonably priced. there is also a sister bar located in sunnyslope which is even sketchier and just as awesome. read more
