Had dinner as part of a large group (about 40) this week. We had a menu with limited options so you lower your expectations a bit but also sort of easy for them to get it right in bulk. Meatballs were good but everything else was severely under seasoned and bland. Simple requests for minor changes were ignored and then one of our guest took a bite of the vegetable on his plate he ended up with a shard of glass or plastic or something in his mouth which nearly cut him. This was brought to the servers attention and it was very clear that he couldn't care less, has to flat out tell him we expected a re-fire on the plate since who knew if it was safe to eat. When he returned with the "new" plate (which we question if it was really remade or if they just moved it to a new plate) he ended up blaming it on the guest saying he must have broken off a piece from the salt grinder but then it took us pointing out that if that's the case he should probably remove the broken grinder before it happens to someone else. Since I live local I was hoping this would be a place I'd be adding to my "places to go" when in downtown but no chance I'd ever return. read more

The parking situation was a bit of an inconvenience. We drove around a while before finding the last parking stall in a public parking lot. Through the app we tried to pay the $50 for our parking spot. After we walked around the corner and up the stairs we were notified via text stating the payment could not be completed. The host overheard our conversation and that Mancuso's validates spots in another parking garage. After we were seated, we decided on our entrees, one of our party members ran downstairs and moved our vehicle to the other parking garage. He didn't have to rush because the server had not been to our table yet. It would have been nice to know about the validating parking option prior to our visit. When making our reservations online, I completed their detailed questionnaire asking about allergies, food sensitivities if it was a special occasion etc but I felt like it wasn't glanced at. Our server didn't know of my daughter's high peanut allergy, she wasn't aware of my lactose intolerance and she had no idea that we were celebrating a birthday. Another server overheard this and brought us a cute 1\2 size portion of tiramisu last minute after the bill had already been dropped at our table. On a positive note, my rib eye steak was excellent! $62. Tasty, cooked to my order and seasoned nicely. The others commented that the gnocchi and meatballs $31 tasted just okay and cannelloni entree $33 was not quite enough for a meal and left him hungry. I would return for the steak alone ,now that I'm better informed about the parking situation and have adjusted my expectations of the service. read more

This is one of the worst restaurants I've been to especially for the price. Even one star is generous I ordered over the phone for pick up I spoke with this rude old lady. I ordered the brisket and chuck burger. They asked how I wanted it. I asked for medium well it when I picked up the order it was like eating a bland hockey puck what kind of burger comes with no sauce no seasoning whatsoever extremely bland. I asked for fries on the side. I got the smallest portion of fries with only 10 pieces. My friend ordered the asiago gnocchi meatballs with Alfredo sauce. This was surprisingly, worst then the burger, one of the worst dishes I've ever had no flavor whatsoever. They also forgot the garlic bread that comes on the side when the lady specifically said it comes with garlic bread I felt like I was eating nothing. The portion was also extremely small with only two meatballs and nasty gnocchi. Stay away from this place. Horrible prices for nasty food. The old lady at the front said that they didn't have any ranch when a waiter brought out ranch. That old lady needs to be fired. I'm surprised this restaurant has four stars when I wouldn't even give it one. This place is right for you if you like spending an extra buck for horrible food. This was honestly one of the worst restaurants we've been to. Seems like people are catching on with an empty dining room. Stay away from this place. read more

The service is always accommodating, swift, and they've never given me the impression that they push certain dishes just to upsell the tab. The Beet salad should be more than enough if you like a contrast of bright citric flavors accompanied by figs, walnuts, and goat cheese. The last highlight, the Linguini & Clams, 3 words to instantly understand how I interpreted the flavors: rich (not in an overwhelming sense), balanced, and briny. The white wine sauce reduces the oceanic brininess to those who are sensitive to it by almost 100%, a beautiful combination of still showcasing the clams' flavor paired with the creaminess through the dish. This was one of the best actual meals I've had in Phoenix. All the meals in Phoenix were either were overly expensive for poorly cooked quality food or overly salty but not this location!! This restaurant had amazing pasta: the fettuccine Alfredo was fairly priced around $20-$30 with amazing creamy taste, the best sautéed mushrooms, and served fresh/hot. The garlic bread was a bit too hard for me but still delicious. And amazing seating the views were great. The servers were also so respectful, patient, and friendly. The restaurant wasn't crowded and when requested a seat away from the window, they were so nice about it. Served hot water and refilled without my asking too. Welcomed in and welcomed out. I have not been to Mancuso's since the first date with my kids' dad in 1992 when it was at the Borgota in Scottsdale. Special memories I went in for lunch today and the chicken Marsala blew me away. We decided on Mancuso's for dinner because it is close to Phoenix Symphony Hall. It can be a little tricky to find. When you find the address, you have to go up the stairs and then around the building in front to find it. Of course, because it's downtown, parking can be a little hard to find. There is a parking garage, but we parked on the street around the corner. The restaurant itself is lovely. I was surprised that it was so empty at 6:00 on a Friday evening. There is a separate bar off to the side, a main dining room, and then another room off the side with tables and white tablecloths. I really liked the touch of a big table lamp and an arrangement of mirrors and old photos. We started with cocktails and escargot. The escargot was loaded with delicious, garlicky butter. We got a basket of bread, which was fantastic for dipping in the garlic butter. They do bring balsamic and olive oil if you prefer to dip your bread in that. I had the rigatoni Bolognese, which was good. Hubby had the linguine in white clam sauce. There were tons of clams and it was absolutely delicious. We had a wonderful, attentive server. Parking is a bit of a challenge if you're not used to the area, so research accordingly. We started off with some free garlic bread, very nice. Crispy outside, soft on the inside. For dipping, they had this cool jug with two pour spouts: one side was for the extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I wouldn't mind one of those in my kitchen! The lump crab salad was quite nice with mixed greens, hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, avocados, asparagus, and the basil dressing. The crab meat was nice size, good lumps. Unfortunately, the entrees did not impress us. The NY strip steak was ordinary at best. It needed more seasoning, needed to be cooked a little more. We did ask for medium rare, and this was closer to rare. The menu said it was Argentine beef. I've been to Argentina, and this tasted a like a steak I would get at at your average casual restaurant. It wasn't worth the $36, it was worth maybe half that price. The Milanese pork chop was better, with a nice bread crumb coating on the outside. The vegetables were undercooked and they had a load of garlic. I mean I love garlic, but it was really pronounced. The gorgonzola mashed potatoes were fine as well. We were able to get a nice bottle of Malbec for $42 though, so at least they do have a nice variety of wines for different prices as well. read more

I was close to downtown and craving Italian. Stopped in the Mancuso's knowing the I use to go to the Scottsdale location many years ago. The inside was nice chill vibe and beautiful decor. Sat at the bar and wow they have Sunday happy hour. Ordered Caesar salad it was good. Could've been a little bigger in size, but it was only six bucks. Ordered meatballs with risotto and it was amazing. This is one dish I will be craving and going back for. It only comes in an appetizer but very good. Then finished up with bake lasagna, which was excellent. The sauce was nice and flavorful and meaty had a couple glasses of wine and it was the perfect ending to Sunday. This was my first time coming to this restaurant and walking in, I had a great feeling about it and the service was good! My waiter brought out fresh bread that was really good and told me all the specials. I started with oysters and wasn't thrilled with them. They were so big that it was hard to eat plus nearly all of them had little bits of shell in them. For my main I had the 6oz filet with brussel sprouts and gorgonzola potatoes. They were quite underwhelming. The steak was cooked perfectly but this whole dish was lacking flavor. Holy Moly... we're extremely happy with each and every visit. This has become our fave place for traditional Italian in the Valley. Sure, there's a lot of Italian eateries, but very few with the tasty Mamma Mia feeling when you bite into there food. From Veal Marsal (Wow!) to their Caesar Salad with Mushrooms to the Meatball Risotto you can't go wrong. Traditional, tasty, and traditional. Oh, did I mention their fantastic Garlic Bread.
