Recently popped in for happy hour and early dinner. Man! This was probably the best food they've ever served me. I don't know if it was the kitchen crew, my timing, or some other factor, but I'm here to say bravo. As always, drinks were on point. Their margs are $6 during happy hour, which is a steal by any standard. I also had a dirty martini, which was well balanced and a little on the dirty side, which is exactly how I take it. It was a scorching day in Phoenix, so i really wasn't feeling a hot dish. I ordered the club and was blown away by how big it was. When I tell you they did NOT skimp on the meat, what I mean is I literally had to take some out to eat it. Not complaining a bit. My dining partner had a burger, which I lovingly helped myself to. Once again, horribly slow service. Food is decent, but not worth the wait. We were seated, sat down, waited about 5 minutes for the waitress, ordered our drinks once she came over, then waited 15 minutes and 05 seconds for them to arrive. Nothing moved fast after that. And this isn't the first time. Actually, it's every single of the last 12 to 15 times that I've been here speed of service slows down. I've had enough. The two main drivers for guests at a restaurant; 1) Order Accuracy 2) Speed of Service. Seems this Vig location fails miserably at speed of service. Leadership here is the key ingredient. The Vig has many locations in the valley. It appears to be a staple. The ambiance is nice - they even have a large patio seating area. Our server stopped by when only half of the table was seated (the rest were either in the restroom or at the bar). He told us he'd be right back but it took him nearly 10-15 min to come back. The restaurant wasn't busy either. This was the first red flag. When we placed our orders, it took 15-20 min for our entrees to arrive. I ordered the grilled chicken chopped salad. It was so mediocre for $19. The chicken was tough and dry - I could barely pierce it with my fork. I asked for a new side of chicken and it was not that much better. It wasn't over cooked but it was low quality. My friend ordered The Vig burger and they brought out the wrong one. It took forever for them to bring a replacement. My husband also ordered this, and it just tasted average. Our other friend ordered a burger with a side of fries. When it arrived, it came with mac and cheese. One of the servers took the plate and said she'd replace it, but then our main server just brought it back with the same exact thing 5 min later. She did end up getting her side of fries later on. I was really excited about the parmsean truffle fries because they were so fragrant but it turned out to be a bust. The fries did not taste fresh and you could hardly taste the truffle parm. The quality, the service, and the overpriced food made the experience lackluster. Overall, this was one of the worst restaurants I've been to in a long time. read more

My perception of The Vig was that it is a Phoenix staple. Now that I've had the chance to try it, I don't know why. Our experience here was problematic from start to finish. First, it took a really long time to take our order and receive our food. Which was perplexing as the restaurant was half empty. Certain things didn't even make sense to be delayed (my friend was told they were "working on her Diet Pepsi"). The service was nice, but not functional. We got wrong orders, failing to correct that wrong order multiple times, and just overall seemed to exhibit a lack of communication or workflow in the restaurant. The food was also lackluster. The guacamole didn't taste like it had any lime at all. My wife's salad came with chicken breast that was insanely dry. This was not a personal opinion, it was objectively dry as it was borderline chicken jerky. We received a new piece of chicken that was cooked better but overall seemed like low quality chicken was used. My burger was fine, and so were the fries. But I had upgraded to the truffle Parmesan fries and the "truffle Parmesan" flavors were very weak. Ultimately didn't live up to being a $20+ burger Our group was left wondering what just happened and unsatisfied. There are much better dining options downtown read more

I thought this place was nice, but nothing stood out as super amazing. I got the Mediterranean salad which our waiter said was a menu item exclusive to this location. I also added shrimp. I liked the amount of shrimp they gave, but I found the overall dish to be a bit salty. I'm not sure if it was the shrimp or the olives or the extreme amount of feta, but something was super salty. My friend ordered the pretzel with cheese and another friend ordered Mac n cheese. I tried a bit of both, and both cheeses kind of had a weird texture. A bit like the cheese sauce had broken? Also tasted slightly bland. Another negative was the flourless chocolate cake. This was a pass for me as it was bitter and a tough texture. In terms of positives it was my friends birthday and they do a free birthday dessert! It was the bread pudding. I really enjoyed this! Honestly my favorite bite of the night. Another highlight was the hibiscus gin spritz. I thought it tasted yummy and seemed like it had a good amount of alcohol. Lastly, the ambience and service was super great! The lack of parking was very difficult for me. But that's probably out of the restaurant's control. The shrimp tacos were very yummy. The service was good overall but someone else in my party ordered chicken salad and there was no chicken in it, which was bizarre. I had a colleague meeting me recently at the Arizona State University Downtown Campus, and we decided to go for a short walk to The Vig Fillmore for lunch a few weeks ago. We arrived and learned about the menu specials for lunch. We noted the starters, soups & greens, sandwiches, tacos, brunch options, entrees, dessert, kids meals, and many drink options. Since we were working, we stuck with the lunch specials that are available on weekdays from 11 AM to 3 PM for only $14. They included an entree (Genuine Burger, Chicken Sandwich & Side, Asian Chicken Salad, or Pozole) and drink. We both chose the Chicken Sandwich lunch specials. I got mine with a side salad and lemonade. They were delicious, a bit smaller than a typical dinner portion, but certainly something I'd consider again over lunch. The Vig Fillmore is in the historic part of Downtown Phoenix with a large, shaded patio along with some indoor rooms, too. As it was a record-breaking day when we were visiting, we opted to sit indoors. In addition to plenty of outdoor seating which is shaded and cool, there are limited seating right by the front door where we sat along with other indoor seating that I have yet to experience. The service we received was wonderful plus they weren't too busy being lunchtime in the middle of the week while ASU was still in summer mode. The Vig is part of the Genuine Concepts restaurants and have been around since 2006. Other Genuine Concepts include Campo Italian Bistro and Bar, The Genuine, The Little Woody, The Womack, and The McMillan Bar and Kitchen (in Flagstaff). There are currently seven The Vig restaurants with an eight opening in Paradise Valley in the near future. The Fillmore location is open Monday through Thursday from 11 AM to 10 PM, Friday from 11 AM to 11 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 11 PM, and Sunday from 10 AM to 10 PM. You can make reservations for lunch or dinner (or something in between) for The Vig Fillmore at OpenTable or on their website. I'm definitely appreciative when a server gives us that warning as we can decide to leave or stay committed... which of course we did. As for the food: Enchiladas-5/5, I haven't had enchiladas in a minute, but definitely will come back and it's perfectly filled with chicken, sauce, and topped with a bunch of toppings. I've been to the Vig 3 other times and always had a wonderful experience. This time was just meh, subpar. The positives: the food was hot and tasty. The burger and fries were delicious as were the steak frites. The wings were crispy but could've used more sauce. The patio is large and beautiful. However, we had some negatives going on this particular Saturday evening. First, we had reservations, and we showed up a few minutes early, but it still took them 20 minutes to seat us, despite the fact that it was not busy at all. Second and most disappointing, our server was not good. He was not attentive, took forever for him to take our order and bring our food, and we had to ask him numerous times to refill our water and soft drinks cause he never stopped by to check on us. With so many great choices out there, I'll go somewhere else next time with better service. read more

Came here last weekend and the place is super cute! Had reservations for 4 and got seated inside by the bar. Disappointed with the table, it was a bit too tight and had to really try not to kick people that sat across from you. Food came out pretty delicious! I was invited to meet friends here. This location looks small on the outside and large on the inside! I ordered the steak frites cooked to medium. It was cooked to medium rare, but the quality of the steak was melt in your mouth quality! The fries that came with it were perfectly cooked, nice and crispy!! The drinks were great! Espresso martinis are hit or miss for me, and this one was pretty good. I also got an extra dirty martini with gin and that was also pretty good. Great service. I wasn't fond of the regular menu but the brunch menu had tasty bites on it. I decided on the chorizo burrito and added bacon to it. I was glad I did because the chorizo and potatoes were a bit mushy but the crunch of the bacon broke up the mush monotony. Man, I really wanted to love this place. I guess the hype over the years just didn't fulfill my experience. I was a huge fan of their onion dip and will say that that was excellent. It's an extremely small location, which is fine, however being as small as it is, I expected a little bit more attention from our server. We had to waive her down quite a few times just to get refills on our drinks and to order more than just appetizers. Had a wonderful meal and experience at The Vig - Fillmore! Beautiful location ... it's designed such that once I walk through gate I'm almost transported out of the city! Wonderful garden seating area if you're waiting for a table with well cared for lacquered wood Adirondack chairs! We opted to sit in the garden/patio rather than wait for an inside table. Even though we're now in the triple digits in Phoenix, the lush vegetation, sun shades, misters, and fans made our evening on the patio quite comfortable. So many yummy choices on the menu. For an appetizer, we shared the humus. It was delicious! I want that recipe! The veggies were generous and fresh, along with perfect pita triangles. Ice Ice baby ... the water brought to the table was great... often restaurants don't serve filtered water, a pet peeve of mine. Thank you Vig for doing so, and as requested.. we got large glasses full of ice to keep the water cool and refreshing! I know, reviewing water at a restaurant? Now you know! Debated several menu options, but Kim, our server, helped us narrow down our selection. Both of us went with the poblano chicken enchiladas. Wow! I enjoyed them so much! Three corn tortillas (they seemed home made!) generously stuffed with chicken tinga, smothered in a delicious poblano cream with Oaxaca cheese crumbles, radish slices, roasted corn, and pickled red onions. My only complaint (tongue in cheek) - more onions! I love how the mild pickle contrasted with the creamy poblano sauce! But light waiting is expected especially if you want the outdoors for dinner. Our staff didn't seem to know as much about the menu or wasn't very confident in recommendations but still great service overall. Food: I got the tacos. Great flavor.
