At Café Luna, we are going to order fajita plate with chicken, extra meat, split plate and that will be an extra three dollars. Lumberjack portions. My 2 star rating is solely based on my food experience. While visiting Phoenix, my friend brought me to one of her frequent spots for Tex-Mex. As we walked in, we were met with a packed restaurant and a packed bar area. We were happy to know that we can order drinks at the bar while we waited for our table. We didn't wait too long for our table and the waitress came over and took our order pretty quickly. My friend order the Crispy Chicken Tacos and I ordered the Carne Asada. Everything seemed to be slathered in cheese and sauce and my meat was so nasty and chewy, I couldn't even swallow it. My friend was unhappy with her meal too, so I'm hoping this was just an off day, since she comes here often. Other than that, the place is lively, and the drinks were nice and strong. Probably won't be back, and if I do, its only for their drinks and probably their chips and salsa. read more

We came on a Sunday around noon and the wait was about 25 minutes. It seemed to pass quickly. Once seated we were greeted by our server who promptly took our drink order. Chips and salsa arrived shortly thereafter. The salsa was very good. We ordered some guacamole which was also delicious. I ordered the steak picado and my girlfriend ordered the chili relleno. I stopped by here on Friday with the fam bam and we all love Valle Luna, we were greeted when we walked in and seated within about 5 minutes. It was very quick. The ambiance in here is nice as well very clean and organized and a darker setting not so bright inside which I like ( it is also not dark either ) it was good. I love their chips and salsa it is soooooo yummy! The chips were made fresh and were nice and warm when it was dropped off to the table, they also have a spicy salsa and that one is pretty hot if you are into spicy stuff. I love just the regular salsa. It is amazing. I ordered the steak fundido with extra jalapeño cream cheese with rice and beans. YUM! Seriously love this meal. My mom got the steak and shrimp fajitas with flour tortillas and it sizzles coming to the table, SMELLS amazing and a cool experience. She also got rice and beans and they serve fixing to add to it like sour cream, avocado, cheese and lettuce. Amazing! My son got the kids burger with fries - the kids burger is pretty decent size! He loved it, no complaints there. My cousins kiddo got the kids chicken tacos with french fries - he loved it as well! Their tacos are also yummy! I love the beef one. Chicken is also pretty darn good. Other kiddo got the 2 bean and cheese kids burrito with a side of rice, she loved it as well. I've keep missing the corned beef tacos on St Paddy's day but this year we made it! I honestly didn't expect much but a novelty but they were surprisingly good. Valle Luna, direct translation Moon Valley, is an unsuspecting little Sonoran Mexican restaurant on North Cave Creek Rd. The parking lot was jammed packed when I pulled in and I hoped it wouldn't be a long wait. Upon entering we were greeted immediately and almost as soon we were being walked to our seat. I noticed the place is huge as the led us through several different rooms before seating us. The service was relatively slow but very friendly. I ordered the Baja fish tacos and my mom ordered the chimichanga. The fish tacos were so good. There is some kind of sauce on the taco and that along with the house made salsa was amazing. The chimichanga was good, nothing amazing. Margs were ok. My mom had the classic marg and it was very watered down. I had a skinny marg and it was average. The first one tasted better than the second one. Overall I thought it was good but not amazing. I'll go back for the fish taco and salsa. read more

This was the third Mexican restaurant we visited while in Arizona. And we LOVED IT! The place had a Spanish-styled home feel on the inside. We made it just in time for the lunch menu and ordered the burrito and their popular dish, Fundido. Both were delicious, with a nice size portion and for a good price. The chips and salsa were good and they kept it flowing as long as you wanted. The best part was the margarita special. $1.99 12oz margaritas. They were very tasty with the right amount of alcohol. I did order black beans and sour cream and did add it to the burrito and I think that should be a menu item. Truly delish. Salsa is very good. I had to stop eating it so I ate my food. It's been a while since I reviewed this place and it's still one of my favorites. We recently went here after my college graduation. My Dad was in town and also with some friends and I suggested this place. My friend called about 30 minutes ahead to let them know a party of 7 was on the way and I know they are always busy, so I expected we'd have to wait 20 minutes or so once we arrived. To my surprise, they had a small room in the back that seated 8-10 and they sat us there knowing it was a special occasion dinner (that was nice of them to do). That type of service earned them the extra star in my review. Everyone enjoyed their meals this night. The only negative part of this place is parking because it's always packed. If you have someone with you who has some challenges walking, drop them at the door first as you may end up parking down the street. read more

We arrived right before the Saturday night crowd. 1. Why would you take us with our obviously 95 year old father to the farthest room in restaurant? I understand how it works with servers but in 10 mins you had a full house. 2. Why would you change your menu and I referring specifically to your Sonoran Enchiladas so you could serve people a Masa Patty? I really think you need to have servers distinguish this. Also the first clue was when asked how they wanted their egg? and they said they have never heard of such a thing? the server should have known that the new menu was confusing. The chile verde is CRAZY good! I also loved the chicken fundido burrito. I took pictures but I had already dived into the food! Pardon the mess! Their chips are light and crispy and the salsa is mild. They give you a hotter one to add to it. Ale, our waitress was excellent. Knowledgeable and friendly. They are super busy here. Went to Valle Luna on Cave Creek Road last night. I gave it two stars because my strawberry margarita was very good and our waitress was nice. My partner ordered the six small tacos and I ordered the cheese crisp. He gave me one of his tacos and there was absolutely zero flavor . Shouldn't the beef have some kind of Mexican flavor? I don't think there was even salt! My cheese crisp was just okay--by "okay", I mean totally boring. We have been there a few times in the past but never again! read more

Valle Luna came recommended by a local. I tried to go one night to find the parking lot overflowing. I thought there's no way I could get in in a timely manner so I checked their website if I could order carry out. It seemed that was overbooked (or sold out) as well. I deferred to lunch the following day. They're known for their Fundido which is like a Chimichanga but with choice of meat and a lot of jalapeño cream cheese. I was told the chips and salsa were a must have too. I was surprised at the size of the place inside. Lots of seats. And lunch was fairly busy too, but nothing like the night before. I was seated quickly, drinks brought right away and order taken. The chips and salsa followed. The salsa was very good, and the chips were fine. They weren't quite the best I ever had but they were quite tasty. I made quick work of them too. The main meal came very fast too. The lunch special was enough for two meals and that's what I turned it into. It came with some lettuce and tomatoes, Spanish rice and refried beans. Arguably the Fundido might be the tastiest Mexican food I ever had. I had the shredded chicken it was an excellent choice. I scared down the half portion of the meal and paid. Went to Valle Luna this past weekend. Haven't been in over 6 years and we were pleased that it hasn't changed a bit. The same welcoming intimate family vibe we remember from years ago. The service is always with a big smile! We don't go to this restaurant expecting fancy or "elevated" Mexican food. This is good ol' traditional Arizona Sonora Mexican food - sour cream, guac, pico, shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, 4 different meats, flour or corn tortilla, There is no reinvention of the wheel here. It is standard conventional menu but GOOD. The ingredients are fresh and crisp. The plates are so well presented, so full of food, you never see the white of the plate until you really start digging in. If you eat with your eyes, this place is a feast! Everything looks and tastes yummy. We had the mini taco basket and it was absolutely phenomenal. Crunchy, fresh, juicy. Also had the chimichanga with the roasted pork, excellent! The chimi held its form (even as a leftover the next day, wow) and was full of meat. The presentation was top notch. Even the refried beans were really delicious. Also had a really nice pozole soup, and a taco salad that was 10/10. The grilled chicken was nicely season and perfectly cooked, the veggies were fresh and crisp, and the tort bowl held its crisp. We loved it! Nothing fancy, but exactly what we needed - homestyle comfort. The parking lot is always packed, the restaurant is always busy. Its also a bit of a boomer HQ, but that is because of decades of loyalty. I have friends who have a lot of 80's and 90's nostalgia for this place, and its good to know they are still going strong. Hope this place stays open another 40 years! Also, looking at these reviews - you can tell the 1-star people are crazies. Especially the ones that say they have been going for 30 years, never left a 5 star review and the one time something negative happens they flip out and write a 1-star review. LOSERS. When I used to live at Tatum in Union Hills this valley Luna, I went to often and I often left with a salsa stain on my shirt from their bottomless chips that you could get as a way to wait for your food to come and they had awesome chicken, chimichangas, and enchiladas with just regular sour cream or salsa each location is awesome. A fan for many years, each location has experienced ups/downs depending on chef. Their Spinach Cheese Dip is worth trying - however, quality is inconsistent as of late. Food always above average for flavor combinations, but interior hasn't been touched in 15+ years looking tattered, worn and uninviting compared to its food. We are usually Manuel diners due to the proximity of it to the schools, but my son commented on how full the parking lot is all the time at Valle Luna, so I mentioned it to Mom and she said we should try. I was surprised because she DOES NOT like Mexican food....but she loved this place. She commented on how the chips were light and crisp, not over salted or greasy at all. This is a big stickler with her when it comes to dining out anywhere. She liked the big chunks of tomatoes and other ingredients in the salsa. We started with a couple of frozen house margs and they came in nice "beer" mugs and were quite tasty. They will probably go down too easy if we go to watch a baseball or football game in the bar area (fair warning). We started with the spinach queso dip and it was really good and it has a hint of spice at the end. One of my sons who puts chili pepper flakes in his mac and cheese said he doesnt think it did. I had the house specialty and it was great. They melt the cheese over the sour cream. Nice touch. My wife had the fajitas and she loved them. My boys had a burrito and the chimichanga and they ate all of it. The service was prompt and Garrett was super friendly. We were seated quickly and the restaurant was clean and tidy. My roommate and I have eaten there and orders several times. Every time everything is perfect. My roommate loves their Fundido, and everything I've tried has been really, really good. Our experiences in the restaurant have always been good. Customer service is great friendly and the staff is knowledgeable about their menu items.
