I had the honor to live in Austria for 6 months, and travel to both Germany and Hungary during that time. This food reminded me so much of my travels! I got the beer that is imported from the Hofbrauhaus in Munich and it was as delicious as it was there. The chicken paprikash was incredible, and the spätzle tasted delicious. It was all perfectly cooked. The environment itself reminds me of the beer tents in Europe, and there was even live music to bring up the energy. The Worst beef stroganoff EVER!!!! Been craving beef stroganoff for months. Finally found a place that serves it. Took us a while to get service. We ordered drinks and the food at the same time. The waiter walked away within five minutes the food was plopped on our table. The beef stroganoff was literally in a cereal / soup bowl that you would have from home. You know that one bowl that has no other matching set to it. It's the only one that's lasted in the cabinet all those years with the chip. It had no presentation no garnish just a plop of porridge in it that just looked horrible. For $25 I was expecting just a little bit more I went with my sister and we were just to hungry at the time so we tried the food and it didn't even taste good. Maybe it was the sour cream that had gone sour is what it tasted like. The meat was kind of sporadically through the stroganoff I got a lot of large pieces of seared tough meat. The kind of beef that been over cooked too long in a pan and it kind of sticks to the pan. No soft moist meat at all. It didn't have any of the flavors of stroganoff It had the weirdest taste. I didn't taste mushroom. I didn't taste sour cream, it kinda had a taste of a hollandaise sauce, tasted kind of lemony. Honestly, I should've sent it back for $25 for that slop of porridge. I couldn't get a waiter back over to us. I had a hunt down salted pepper just kind of spice it up a little bit. It was utterly disgusting I've had good German food and this isn't the place They had a nice courtyard. A guy was playing some polka music, then switched over to Americanized music. Waited at the door for 5 minutes without being greeted. No printed beer beer list, only online. Out of mashed potatoes and cordon bleu. Server never came back to check on us after we got our food. The pay at the table with the handheld screen system and no printed receipt until after payment is uncomfotable. The server standing in front of you while you indicate how much the tip is weird. Came here recently with friends for a solid weekend dinner. One of the guys used to live in the area and loved coming here so it was overdue for his return. For me, it was a big hike up to the north side- but totally worth the haul! I grew up in the Midwest, occasionally going to one or two German restaurant/ clubs, so this was not an unfamiliar atmosphere to me. It is definitely a "seasoned" vibe, having immediately taken over the space by a former western bar/beer hall that had been in existence for 50+ years. Their menu says "German and Hungarian" but all I read was German. They have a solid European beer selection, including taps and bottles and some cocktails with a German twist. The one that threw me for a loop (in the best way) was Kriek! So ofc I got a pint. We shared a (fairly large) pretzel to start, which comes with beer cheese. Tasty, but I was genuinely shocked there was no mustard. I ordered the jagerschnitzel (pork) and just overall the meal was as expected as if I was in the Midwest - amazing, delicious, insert chef's kiss. I wish I could have joined the clean plate club. The cucumber salad was flavorful and not too sour/pickley. My friend and I both noted how umami the savory sauce was- not too bacon, not too mushroom. The potatoes were not too salty or under-seasoned. Literally willing to drive up again if/when someone tells me to go. Review for take-out. Picked up a couple of schnitzels for lunch with spatzle and red cabbage. I had the chicken. It tasted like wienerschnitzel. I was impressed with the size of the schnitzel portion. By the end of the meal I was very full. I know there is a beer garden behind the restaurant but it is probably better at night or in the winter as it was over 100 degrees when I was there. I love beer gardens and really wanted to like this place. First off, it's huge. I can imagine it being packed during Oktoberfest, and maybe I'd give it another try then, but otherwise this one was rough. I ordered a beer that had supposedly just been tapped, but somehow it was warm. After tasting the warm beer, a gin and tonic was ordered. The server straight poured from the bottle, and all I could think was, this is how Bar Rescue finds places. I wanted to order food, but ended up just getting the pretzel, which wasn't bad. My son and I are in town for the 2025 AAE Arizona Cup and looking for interesting places to eat. I love German food and so we gave Edelweiss a whirl. Interesting neighborhood but does have private parking. Folks out jogging so appears safe. German decor as expected. Created by three different folks on the way in. Seated in a booth as it was cool for outside. Very friendly waitress. Found a delicious sounding beer off of their extensive tap list which is front and back of a nice menu. I opted for my usual Jagerschnitzel with red cabbage and cucumber salad. Joseph had the Hungarian Sausage and cheesy spatzle. All was good. As you can see for some reason they opted to put the mushroom gravy in a cup instead of on the huge piece of meat could have used more gravy but was still tasty. I don't understand the reviews from 30 days ago or two months ago - Edelweiss has been closed for repairs since May. Shady. We used to go to Edelweiss every Friday night. Have a fine German beer and good food. It was our place. Then it slowly went down hill. So far down hill, that we haven't been back in a few years. We saw that they had been closed for a few months for repairs and just opened back up last weekend. So we thought we'd pop in and see all the improvements. Yikes y'all. First of all, bring a fan. Even though they've been closed for repairs since May, they didn't bother to make sure the AC works. It doesn't. Neither do many of the ceiling fans. Soooooo hot. I mean, hot. Really HOT. It was 110 degrees in Phoenix today and this restaurant didn't have a working AC. They do have floor fans, one in the front room and one in the back room, that the servers are apparently not allowed to turn on without permission. Really? There is not a new menu as advertised. And, even though they have a 'secret menu' on their website, they don't really have a secret menu. They serve nothing on that menu in the actual restaurant. If you try to order from the 'secret menu' , they tell you it's not a real menu and they don't have any of those items. Take it off your website, then, and quit advertising it. Bottom line: The beer is still good (although, no frosty mugs or cold glasses to serve it in), the big pretzel and the Chicken Paprikash are still so yummy, the bathrooms are still as nasty as they've ever been and it's so hot inside the restaurant that your beer is warm before you get 3 sips of it. So, drink it fast then leave and go somewhere with working AC. Needless to say, highly disappointed. We were hoping for big things and ended up with more of the same. read more

I'm not sure why I haven't been to this place before! We visited on a Wednesday night, and they had a trivia night going on. We found seats at the bar and got to try some beer samples that the friendly waitress kindly offered. The vibe was great, with lots of charming German mug decor. The trivia players seemed to be having a blast. I ordered the pork with potatoes. So my hubby and I are going on a tour of all the Oktober festivities and German offerings this fine month. Came to this location and we were wildly disappointed. It's been a long time since I have been to such a disappointing eating experience. There is a large patio with tables that could make for good Oktoberfest but there was zero atmosphere. We opted to eat outside because the interior looks like a dark, trashy dive bar. Patio is nice but was empty. American music playing for a while and then no music at all. There is a place for a live band, as well as outside bar and they are closed. The menu they post online is not what they offer in person. The draft German beer was good for sure but beer without food makes me dizzy. The waitress was nice however after waiting for our food for 30 minutes she said she would give us a free round of beers and apologized the kitchen is slow. Then we waited more. The restaurant was not busy, no reason for our food to take 1 hour and 10 minutes to arrive. Finally food came, pretzel was a frozen grocery store special. Not German, just movie theater American. The red cabbage was raw. This is not a German restaurant. Just a dive bar with German beer. Seriously could be a great place if the owner showed some integrity and pride.
