Great food, exceptional service. My sister brought us to Edelweiss Biergarten for the first time. Our server was friendly and accommodating, answering all our questions and making thoughtful recommendations. She chatted with us enough to make us know that she cared, but not so much as to be intrusive. When my sister mentioned that one of the beers on the menu had our surname in its name, our server brought her a mardi gras type beaded necklace with the logo of the beer on it. Such a thoughtful touch! We started with the Pogi, which is basically a cross between a biscuit and a roll. What made it really special was the house-made warm cranberry sauce. It was so good that I asked for a large side to take home, which they happily provided for me. It's going on English muffins in the morning. My husband had the beef stroganoff, and it has literally ruined him for stroganoff from anywhere else, ever. The beef was tender and well-seasoned, and it was served over fluffy spaetzle. My spaetzle with feta cheese, bacon, and sour cream was delicious. For dessert, we had the Apple Strudel and the Black Forest Cake. The strudel was flaky, with apples that were delicately spiced but not mushy or overly sweet. The cake... I've never had such a beautifully light cake. My fork met almost no resistance as I took a bite. It was made with fresh cherries -- not processed pie filling-- and had a whipped cream frosting that again, was not overly sweet. Although I've never been to Germany or Hungary, I have no doubt that our meal was the real deal. All in all, a simply wonderful experience. read more

My son and I are in town for the 2025 AAE Arizona Cup and looking for interesting places to eat. I love German food and so we gave Edelweiss a whirl. Interesting neighborhood but does have private parking. Folks out jogging so appears safe. German decor as expected. Created by three different folks on the way in. Seated in a booth as it was cool for outside. Very friendly waitress. Found a delicious sounding beer off of their extensive tap list which is front and back of a nice menu. I opted for my usual Jagerschnitzel with red cabbage and cucumber salad. Joseph had the Hungarian Sausage and cheesy spatzle. All was good. As you can see for some reason they opted to put the mushroom gravy in a cup instead of on the huge piece of meat could have used more gravy but was still tasty. It's sometimes nice to indulge in things I normally don't eat or drink and this place always satisfies. We went here on a Saturday shortly after they opened. The outside is a little dingy, but that's to be expected on 32nd and Bell. The inside atmosphere was great. The server was very nice. And the place is accommodating to single eaters as well as full families. The food was great and the server helped explaining things as the menu items are listed in German. We found seats at the bar and got to try some beer samples that the friendly waitress kindly offered. The vibe was great, with lots of charming German mug decor. The trivia players seemed to be having a blast. I ordered the pork with potatoes. The food was amazing and so incredibly authentic! We started with pretzel bites and Opa's favorite. Opa's favorite took us by surprise! Such a unique combo of fried cheese and homemade cranberry sauce. Around the table, we had Hungarian sausage, smoked brats, Huhnerschnitzel, and Jager Schnitzel. Everyone was immersed in the food. My father in law (Danish) kept taking about how the red cabbage and sauerkraut tasted like his childhood. All around 10 out of 10 on the dinner! We ordered one of each dessert and took turns sharing bites of each. The Apple strudel was a big hit. But the German chocolate cake and black forest cake were just decent. The boys started with a flight of beers and were very impressed with the selection ! You get four 4oz beers. We gave our server some selective freedom, and she nailed it! She made sure that each person's four were different from the other others so there was a lot of selection and variety. At 6 PM a gentleman came in with an accordion and started playing live music. It was just perfect! Not too loud that we couldn't enjoy our time together, but loud enough that you could enjoy the music. Our server was the best! Perfectly checking in just as much as we needed and making great suggestions along the way. We had not even left before my in-laws were asking when we wanted to come back and dine again. Out showing homes in N Phoenix, and decided to grab a bite with my buddy David. He recommended Edelweiss Biergarten, which was perfect timing for Oktoberfest. I have limited knowledge of German food, but I will say that I loved everything that we had here. Best beer cheese ever, and the schnitzel was perfect. Parking is a little rough, but well worth the wait. Our server Samantha was getting her butt kicked all night long by the crowd, but she handled it well and was a lot of fun to BS with. ...my opinion. The food is better than Haus Murphy. I had been craving Eisbein all week and this place DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT! The pork was literally falling off the bone, and the sauerkraut and potatoes were cooked to PERFECTION. I didn't expect the broth at the bottom of the plate-bowl but I ended up slurping that up like the best damn soup I've ever had! On top of all the amazing food, the shining star of this place is Emily. I sat there for a while and witnessed various folks and groups come in and Emily was on top of everything! From greeting people at the door to taking orders to recommending certain products; she was sweet, pleasant, chill, and knowledgeable as hell! In passing, she told me that she left the bier cheese from my pretzel bites appetizer out because she really likes putting it on top of the Eisbein and the potatoes. Being a card-carrying fat guy, I have no idea how my mind didn't jump to that conclusion right away; GENIUS! Whatever she's making at this place, it's not enough. She's a wonderful person and a god damn treasure of an employee. I am coming back, and if I'm smart (which the jury is still out on), I'm letting Emily pick my entire meal. read more

Edelweiss Biergarten may claim to be Phoenix's oldest restaurant, dating back to 1952, but unfortunately it shows every one of those 70+ years--and not in a charming, vintage way. The building itself is outdated and worn, with decor that feels frozen in time. The outdoor seating consists of weathered picnic tables dressed in old tablecloths, hardly inviting for a pleasant dining experience. Most concerning were the restrooms, which were not clean and so antiquated that the floor showed a visible worn track from decades of foot traffic. The clientele seemed equally stuck in another era. I ordered the Jäger Schnitzel, which should be a showcase dish for any German restaurant. While the flavor was acceptable, the execution was poor--the schnitzel was so overcooked it had curled. . I made the mistake of ordering mashed potatoes as my side (the traditional fried potatoes would have been the better choice). The mashed potatoes were cold, though they did appear to be made from real potatoes rather than instant. The cucumber salad was disappointing: a small portion of thinly sliced cucumbers with weak seasoning and a watered-down sauce that lacked any punch. The mushroom sauce that topped my schnitzel was perhaps the most disappointing element--essentially a thick roux paste studded with mushrooms, completely flat and one-dimensional in flavor. The one bright spot was the service, which was attentive and good. Edelweiss Biergarten feels like a restaurant that's dying on the vine, unable or unwilling to update its facilities or elevate its food quality. If you're craving German cuisine in Phoenix, do yourself a favor and head to Haus Murphy's instead, where you'll find much better food and a more pleasant overall experience. read more

Stumbled across this restaurant and hoped for a good German dinner. It's amusing that every German restaurant seems to have cheeseball pictures taped to the walls. At least this place had a mountainside background for their accordion player - who was not there. Otherwise they have an interior that does replicate a biergarten with long wooden tables, etc. I started with a Schneider Edel-weisse beer. It was good as one would expect. I then ordered the Jager schnitzel which came with German home fried potatoes and cucumber salad. When the food arrived, almost too quickly, I was surprised to see the Jager sauce in a side cup. It didn't quite look right and I momentarily thought it was the wrong thing. The server assured me it was and that that's how all the sauce is served. My half German hairs rose on the back of my neck. I sampled the sauce and it was ok. I sampled the schnitzel and it was also OK. Together they were less than ok but I was hungry and ate most of it. The home fried potatoes were also just ok, a little colder than desired and lacking in flavor beyond the oil they were nearly swimming in. The cucumber salad was also less than wonderful. I left a good bit of all three things when I left. (I even left some of the beer - a cardinal sin). Had it been better than ok, I would have scarfed it all down - though the schnitzel was of a size that celebrated quantity over quality. I ate a lot - but not all - of the food, cashed out and headed on my way. I could have taken some out for later, and chose not to. It wasn't great German food,... wait for it... just ok. It gets an ok score of 3. But I won't go back the next time I'm in Phoenix. read more

This place!!! we have lived here in the valley since the turn of the century and never came here before. What a hidden gem. Being German, I enjoyed every bit of the food. The German fried potatoes tasted just like my grandma used to make in her Rott Iron skillet. The bratwurst and other Hungarian sausages were out of this world. Of course the beer cheese was great the sauerkraut and the cabbage were prepared perfectly. Kudos to the chef! Also great environment - we sat outside even in the rain and enjoyed the accordion player. Last but not least, we enjoyed the authentic German beers. Will return and we will bring family and friends. OMG sooooooo good!! 10 stars! Have gone a few times since going for the 1st time a few weeks ago for my birthday. Have driven by many times and wished we had stopped sooner. 1st the staff always greets you with a smile when you enter and quickly seats you. Have has 3 different waitstaff and all where friendly and efficient. Did a few customization to the orders and they came out correct each time. Have tried multiple different sausage plates and all where grilled up crisp on the outside and still tendy, juicy and sooooo flavorful on the inside. The German potatoes are also amazing and so is the red cabbage. Kids meals have good choices. The accordion player on one visit was great too. Not too loud and played great songs. The building itself is really old and getting a little shabby, but don't let that deter you because the food and time staff are the best!! So glad another German restaurant was closed on my birthday leading us here! Will be back for sure to try more dishes! read more
