This was our second visit to the Cornish Pasty Co. location on 32nd Street in Phoenix and our third visit to the restaurant group overall. We continue to be impressed by both the quality and creativity of their food. On this visit, I ordered The Pilgrim, which is essentially Thanksgiving dinner wrapped inside a pasty. It features turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and gravy. It arrived absolutely piping hot--seriously, give it a few minutes before taking that first bite--but once it cooled down, it was phenomenal. The combination of flavors was comforting and satisfying, and a little cranberry sauce with each bite provided the perfect balance. My only minor critique would be that the ingredients could have been distributed a bit more evenly throughout the pasty. I also found the gravy slightly more peppery than expected, occasionally overshadowing the stuffing, sweet potatoes, and turkey. Even so, this has become my favorite pasty at Cornish Pasty Co. We also tried the Peppered Steak pasty, which features sirloin, portobello mushrooms, leeks, zucchini, Stilton bleu cheese, and a peppercorn brandy cream sauce. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, especially the steak and the wonderfully flaky crust. For my personal taste, the peppercorn brandy cream sauce was a little more prominent than I prefer, and I found myself wanting more of the steak, mushroom, and Stilton flavors to come through. That's simply a matter of preference, though--it was still a well-executed dish made with quality ingredients. One thing Cornish Pasty Co. consistently gets right is the crust. Every pasty we've had has been flaky, flavorful, and substantial without feeling heavy. This wasn't our first experience with their menu. Over the years we've thoroughly enjoyed the Tikka Masala, the Lamb & Mint (which was a genuine "wow" dish), and the Royale. Those are all excellent choices, but after this visit, The Pilgrim has moved to the top of my personal rankings. Our two pasties came in under $20 each, making for a filling and satisfying meal at a reasonable price. We ordered takeout, and while there was a bit of a wait after we arrived, it's worth noting that these are made-to-order pasties, not fast food. Even though we only ordered a few minutes before arriving, the quality was well worth the extra time. My biggest criticism has nothing to do with the food. While waiting, my wife and I sat inside briefly, and we found the music extremely loud. During our visit, the restaurant was playing Silth, a progressive metalcore band. Musical tastes are obviously subjective, but the combination of the style and volume made conversation difficult for us. My wife eventually decided to wait in the car because it was simply too loud. The restaurant clearly aims for a lively pub atmosphere, with games available and a diverse mix of patrons enjoying themselves, so many people may appreciate that environment. It just wasn't a great fit for us. That said, the food is outstanding, the portions are generous, and we'll absolutely be back. We'll probably continue ordering takeout, but that's a reflection of our personal preferences rather than any issue with the restaurant itself. If you're looking for creative, well-made pasties with high-quality ingredients, Cornish Pasty Co. is definitely worth a visit. read more

This was a wonderful place to have a work dinner with a small group. I have never had a pasty before, which I now equate to a little calzone, and I'm a sucker for a good calzone. It's dark, casual, and easy to hear everyone which was a nice change from some of the other places I'd been to that week. Unfortunately, they were having some issue with the fridge or freezer and they were out of many of the options, so that was a bit disappointing. I had to panic order, and ended up with the Chicken Greek. Regardless of it being the backup choice, it was still pretty good. I could see wanting takeout from here many more times if I lived closer. The drink menu was very interesting - I had the Oaxacan Pineapple and asked if it could be made spicy, and it was probably the best drink I'd had all week. Service was great and parking was easy. It's at least 106 outside and 84 degrees in the restaurant. The ac was out and apparently they didn't want to pay the premium charge for weekend repair? Those poor servers, they were dying. I can't imagine the hell the kitchen staff were in where ovens were operating! We asked if they could turn on the ceiling fans. No, the fans haven't worked for a long time per our server. So apparently when you go in on Sundays, you're eating what's left from Saturday. Unlike a bakery, there's no discount on day old. And many of my friend group were not able to get their first choice. I got the banger and mash pasty, it was decent. The scotch egg and Eton Mess was good. But not worth the price, definitely considering how uncomfortable it was. This particular location was a disappointment. I have been to other Cornish Pasty locations, Scottsdale and DT Phx and both were much better than this one. The interior is very dated, dark, full of kitsch. I was surprised when I walked in. It felt like a bar. They didn't have several of the pasties on the menu so our choices were somewhat limited. I got a chicken one that was over cooked and very light on the filling, my friend got a beef one that was warm at best but it fell apart when trying to eat it. Service was slow and it took quite a while for our food to come even though we were the first ones in. This is a space to get away and be with people. Not be on the phone the entire time. Staff is friendly and personable, they make it feel like you are in your local town bar. When come enough Irine the bar tender learns your name and give the sense of "Cheers" where everyone knows your name. Pool and darts are available to play while to hang out with your friends and family. The pasties are amazing, you can't go wrong with hand made/house made food. Daniel is the genius behind the pastys! My favorite is the chilly burger, and honestly the Parliament wings. All in all this is a Bar Resturant that does not feel like a chain. Please do not let it get ruined by "Investors". This is a local paradise that you can lounge with affordable drinks and food. I have tried a few other pasties like the bangers and mash, the Royale, Shepard's Pie, Lovely Bit of Salmon and Chicken Pot Pie, which are all good, but always go back to the Carna Adovado. read more

Service was good for a light crowd, the restaurant is dark so if you're over 25+ years old, turn your flashlight on. Menu options are aplenty even for vegetarians and vegans. I checked out Cornish Pasty with two friends visiting town from San Antonio on a Friday evening for dinner. With several locations in Phoenix, this one was closest so we made our way and didn't have any trouble parking in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (5/5): I loved the vibe. Think of it as a pub with a lot of character. There's wallpaper on the walls which you don't expect at an English pub. But it works. There's seating at the bar, high tops, and tables/booths. They also have two pool tables. Cool decor abounds, including some cool pictures a flag of the area in England where pasties were invented. Service (4.5/5): While they weren't packed while we were there, there were a good number of people hanging out. Our waiter did a good job of taking care of us. He checked in with us regularly and closed us out efficiently when we were ready to make a move. He also repeated our orders to make sure they were right, which is always a nice touch. Drinks (4.5/5): While they have a full bar, when I'm at a pub, I'm thinking about beer. They have a good beer list consisting of both European beers and craft brews. I went with a Bavik pils. Their beers are reasonably priced too, which is always a big plus in my book. Given that they're a pub, I wish they had a larger menu, but outside of that, exactly what I was looking for. Food (4.5/5): If you're like me, you probably have never had a pasty. Or heard of them. If that's the case, you're in for a treat. Think of pasties as essentially British empanadas. They were invented in England and the menu gives you a nice history of how they came about. Most of the menu consists of these delectable pies. You have 30 or so of them to choose from (including vegetarian options). Outside of that, you have some appetizers and desserts for the most part. I went with the meat and cheese pasty which has sausage, beef, and cheese and is served with your choice of one of three dipping sauces. I went with the red wine gravy which was the perfect compliment to the pasty. The pasties were baked just right, flavorful, and a unique experience. They're a little pricey for the portion size, but still pretty filling. If you're feeling more adventurous, they have non-traditional pasties too like the Cubano, Tikka Masala, etc. They even have a dessert pasty with apples and cinnamon which is served a la mode with ice cream. Stumbled upon this local mini chain looking for something easy to eat on the flight back home and behold Cornish pasty is the perfect hearty packaged meal! In lay man's terms, it's effectively a giant hot pocket but the filling is ultra rich, savory and filling. I tried the og - which historically is beef, potatoes and root vegetables and it was definitely thick and filling - the red wine gravy is a must on it as it's a little dry otherwise. My wife tried the Guinness stew one and that was the winner in my book - umami rich, ultra savory tender beef stew with good vegetal notes. They have tons of other combinations that looked interesting - bangers and mash and shepherds pie to name a few. I love Cornish but this location ends up disappointing me each time I come. On my last visit it was probably 85 degrees in there while it was a lot cooler outside. My friends and I were all sweating and just decided to leave. Aside from that, a few of the staff members just have terrible attitudes and will have you waiting 30 minutes to be waited on, but then when you go up to the bar to order they just tell you to sit down and wait, and then you go to another bartender and they take your order. Server was really sweet and very engaging. Was quick to offer suggestions on the menu. (Menu was a bit limited due to a previous power outage, so we had to make choices that were a little forced.) Homemade bread is terrific. Liver pate appetizer is nice as well. Ordered two pasties and the cauliflower cheese casserole. All very solid. Meringue and fruit dessert my son ordered was not my thing, but he loved it. At the end, my wife said "we need to add this place into our regular rotation." AMAZING! My brother and I met the owner on a ski lift earlier in the day. So, having no idea what to expect, we went to Cornish Pasty. The choices were plentiful. The service, shout out to Karly!, was attentive. The pasties are tasty. I had the vegan hatch chili burger pasty. My brother had the veggie cottage pie. That was more than enough. We, however, were so excited with the choices, we kept ordering. The mushy peas? Phenomenal. The soup he had was some of the best ever. Word on the street is they will open one in Tucson soon. I was really surprised today. Picked up an oggie, and when I get home and take a bite the bread was still raw at the bottom with a big clump at the front. I had to open it up and dig around to make sure I wasn't imagining things cause it tasted really paste-y but maybe it was just potato? Nope, it was a clump and bed of raw tasting dough around the whole thing. So I call in and politely let them know my breading was still raw on the inside. The waitress hands me off to the manager, who comes on and asks me if I have a oven.. really? They say I should cook it longer at 425 - instead of offering to have me exchange it or something nice. I asked if the only solution she's offering is for me to try and remake it. I hear yes it'll be fine if I cook it longer sorry about that! The vibe was really weird. I've never had a restaurant give me cooking instructions for something they undercooked. So now I have to burn the crispy outside to not chew on play dough; or pick something else up. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. If I wanted to cook I wouldn't have gone there. I used to recommend this place to my classmates and friends but I don't think I want to go back anymore. It must happen frequently enough to have a "fix it yourself" policy. read more

We've tried every Cornish location they've opened, and after our last visit, we may never go back. That's heartbreaking considering we used to eat there almost weekly. Shoutout to the Tempe and downtown PHX staff, but the food today was unrecognizable. Our favorite soup was an unseasoned, chunky slop. You shouldn't have to chew soup. The homemade bread tasted like Wonder Bread. The Parliament wings--which used to be some of the best in town--were tiny, bland, rubbery little things. And the pasties? The dough was completely different and absolutely awful. We asked if there was a new chef or supply issue, only to learn the owners had changed the food to make it more "authentic" and taste the way it was "supposed to." So apparently, the food we'd loved for years across multiple locations was all wrong. I guess "authentic" now means bland, cheap, and poorly executed. My frugal grandmothers could make incredible food with very little money, so poverty is no excuse for bad cooking. What's most disappointing is that Cornish used to feel like a genuinely great local pub. Now it feels like another chain cutting costs while cashing in on the reputation of what it used to be. You didn't make it more authentic. You ruined it. read more

We came tonight and noticed the same graceful and wonderful servers as always( definitely shows they are believe in what they do here) they were on point as always . This trip was bangers and mash pasty and salmon pasty , both tremendous in their own unique flavors , very complex inside that perfect crust . The bread , no where isn't better , make sure to order some to take home , you will never be sorry . For desert , once again we got the benaffi pie, our favorite all time , we seen many other deserts hit the tables next to us , and I will tell you , they all looked to be as awesome as the next . I've been to Cornish Pasty multiple times downtown and never really thought of it as more than a cute bar. This is my first time going to this location and getting food and I was very impressed. I got the chicken Greek pasty and it was delicious! The pasty was nice and flaky and the fillings were a perfect combination of classic Greek ingredients. The ambiance of the restaurant is just as fun as the one downtown and the waitstaff was super friendly and the food came out fast. Just visited this location after trying out the one in Tempe years ago. Food is delicious, service is great, ambiance is nice! When you walk in, you'll notice cool decor, candlelit tables, the smell of bread baking, and casual vibes with people hanging out for date night, a glass of beer with friends, or a game of pool. As far as the food goes, there has to be at least 40 different kinds of pasties--which are like handheld meat pies. Also a lot of vegetarian & vegan options. The chicken tikka masala pasty is my favorite so far. The curry is delish and had a good ratio of meat/veggie/sauce and the crust of the pasty is a great texture. We also tried the oggie and the reuben. The 1000 island sauce that comes with the reuben was kinda overpowering, but our server was nice to give us a different sauce. For dessert, we had the banoffee pie which was overall good (esp the homemade caramel), but had too much whipped cream for my taste. Desserts are big-- great for sharing between 2-3 people. I love this location ( but I also love the others!). This location is right in a business district so always busy. The dimly lit room has so much ambience as you listen to people chattering and food being made. They also have a nice patio. Come for the pasty's but check out the rest of the menu! They have amazing soups and a huge list of salads! Try the salads- they are worth it if you want to eat lighter. They also have a large list of vegan pasty's.
