I had a really disappointing experience here. My cousin asked for a glass of water, and it appeared to have what looked like a shard of glass in it. When she politely asked what it was, the employee immediately got defensive instead of addressing the concern. Any customer would be alarmed if they thought there was glass in their drink. She asked to speak with a manager, and he dismissed the concern by saying it was "nothing to be scared of." When he returned with another glass of water, he slammed it down in front of her and claimed he was the manager. Moments later, another employee came over saying he was actually the manager and that the first employee was just a barback, but he was just as rude and unprofessional. To top it all off, as we were leaving, staff flipped us off. We've never experienced such disrespect from employees over a simple and reasonable question about something that appeared to be in a drink. Mistakes happen, but the way customers are treated is what matters. We went to this place and it wasn't packed at all. There were plenty of seats and tables available. We ordered two types of pasty: The Oggie and the chicken tikka masala. I'm not the type of person to complain, but this location sucks. The server didn't introduce herself, just asked if we were ready to order. She kept coming back annoyed that we were unsure yet. The other servers would give dirty looks whenever you pass by when I went to the restrooms. This place is super cute and is my go-to spot if I want to listen to jazz and eat a pastry. This location has it all!!upstairs they have a pool table and darts which is perfect if you bring any friends. Right now during the summer it's a lot less busy because all the college students are away and there are more locals than during the fall and spring. To place an order you just need to sit down at any open table and the waiter/waitress will come and take your order and get drinks started. I remember visiting the Cornish Pasty in both Scottsdale and Tempe over the years, and I have always enjoyed any of the signature or premium pasties I have tried. Today, I was walking near my office and came across the Downtown Phoenix location of Cornish Pasty. I enjoyed a tasty lunch with good service, and I am already looking forward to heading back there. When I approached the restaurant from the corner of Central and Monroe, it wasn't clear which door was the door I should enter though it seems like any door off Monroe or Central is just fine. There were limited number of tables plus the bar, and I was delighted to see a small table available. I was eating on my own with a book, and I was quickly greeted by one of several team members who stopped by my table over my lunch hour. I asked a few questions about three options, and I decided upon the Chicken Pot Pie Signature Pasty consisting of chicken, carrots, red potato, green beans, celery, and onion with rosemary. There was also chicken gravy on the side. Everything about the dish was delicious! I would consider ordering this again as I enjoyed it so much; however, I may want to try something else next time. There are so many options! I did learn though that you cannot substitute most options in the pasties. Visit the Cornish Pasty website at https://www.cornishpastyco.com. On the website is the history of the Cornish pasty, information about all 11 locations (of which 9 are in Arizona), menus, a photo gallery, catering options, contact form, employment options, online ordering, and gift cards. While the Scottsdale and Tempe locations appear larger than the Downtown Phoenix location, it was still comfortable and had similar positive customer service from staff. There are so few restaurants like the Cornish Pasty in the Phoenix area. I'd certainly recommend visiting any of the Cornish Pasty locations though for a positive experience Downtown, feel free to stop by. No reservations are needed. We've been long time fans of Cornish pasty, although this is the first time we've been to the downtown location. This location is quite large, taking up two stories. It has a separate billiards room and a large bar in the middle. I love the different lighting fixtures hanging amongst the big chandeliers. I really like the aesthetic of this place. There is a patio outside as well. There are so many varieties of pasties that you can order. We ordered the bangers and mash pasty and the Italian pasty. I have no idea why we would go towards the Italian pasty but there are so many delicious, traditional fillings. The Italian was good, with roasted tomatoes, pepperoni, salami, cheese. But the bangers and mash was absolutely fantastic with the wine gravy. Next time I'll stick to more traditional fillings. The service was fantastic here. Our server was very nice and friendly and when I told her we were in a rush she brought the check right away. This Cornish Pasty Co location is one of my favorite spots to grab a bite and a beer in downtown Phoenix. Their bar selection is vast with tons of beers on tap and various bottles/cans available. While it is always pretty busy, there's always a spot to sit, and the service staff is on top of their game. The location has two floors, an upstairs bar and downstairs, and pool tables/dart boards on each level as well. The vibe is very cool, with plants and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. If you want more of a dark and mysterious vibe, head upstairs. If you like it a little more spacious, downstairs is your place! If you haven't had a pasty before, you are missing out on an exquisite dining experience. Whether you use a fork and knife or eat it as a proper hand pie, you'll love it. The chips were some of the best I've had in a very long time, if not ever. The restaurant is large with an upper and lower level and patio dining. It has a pub-like feel. Use the QR to view the menu, but order through the waiter. (This isn't quite obvious, so a sign stating 'Order with the waitstaff' would make things more clear). There are a variety of pasty flavors to choose from. The bathrooms are completely graffitied -- I think they've chosen to make that part of the decor. Don't let them scare you off! We had tickets to the Orpheum theater and we're looking for a fun place to have dinner before the show. We parked in the nearby parking structure for $25 for the evening and walked over to this restaurant. It's pretty good size with both indoor and outdoor seating and seating downstairs and upstairs. The music is pretty loud inside, so we grabbed the last table that we saw outside as the sign said the seat yourself. Our server arrived within five minutes and we soon received water and a beer. My first visit to the Downtown Phoenix iteration of Cornish Pasty Company - Tempe locations have been prior experiences of mine for more years than I care to mention (close to 20?). That said, I was in the area for somewhat of an extended lunch break and I selected CPC. Sat at the bar. Not very busy all around, which I have experienced lately in DT PHX; how are these high-rent establishments staying in business to open for lunch when there's hardly anyone to serve at noon on a September Thursday?! Green chile was on the mild side - that's my only wish here; not everyone can Hatch, NM or Los Dos every meal, but personally, I'd like for it to be! I went to their location in Flagstaff a couple of years ago but luckily they had one in Phoenix. It's downtown and there is parking here and there. Until downtown Phoenix gets incredibly urban like other major cities, parking is not too hard to find. My friend told me that they expanded this place so it's a lot bigger than it used to be. There's a bar and then there's tables all around and you find where you want to sit and they find you to take your order. Friend had the tomato soup which also came with bread and was delicious! We also had a Scotch egg appetizer. So good but a little pricey. Husband had the Scotch eggs salad which also was really tasty and full of all the fixings. I had their steak pasty which was amazing. I've been here many times before and never had an issue, but the way one of the staff (Sam) handled our group last night was genuinely disappointing. One of our members was asked to leave in a way that felt personal rather than professional, and the tone used (especially toward women in our group) came across as disrespectful and unnecessary. It didn't feel like standard policy enforcement. It was targeted. Curse words and derogatory statements were used. The comments that were made and the aggressive tone with which they were said was completely out of line for a service environment. This happened to multiple women in our group. Regardless of personal history, that kind of behavior shouldn't be happening while representing this business. This kind of conduct reflects poorly on your establishment. Coming from service experience from the last 10 years of my life, sometimes we get busy behind the bar. Especially being high volume. However, it doesn't mean that you get to neglect a certain demographic or patron because they're not regulars. It was a beautiful night in fall Arizona for outdoor seating. Classic pub decor and styling with a medium low/medium level of noise and a bit of dimmed light. The staff were fairly busy but attentive. I've never had a pasty before but was intrigued. I imagined the English tales of "meat pies". I ordered "the oggie" with a nice blend of beef and potatoes and some oven chips (think fries). Think of a pasty as a bit drier calzone but still very good to eat. This place is really cool inside and everyone working there is also cool - so I had high hopes. I wasn't sure how big these were so I ordered a Lamb Vindaloo pasty and a Shepherd's Pie pasty to go. The food came pretty fast and I went back to my hotel to enjoy. The shepherd's pie was fantastic - hot and delicious. We went to Cornish Pasty for a nice walk and lunch downtown. The restaurant is so nice inside and there's a great patio to sit at also. Our pasties came out and they were huge and steaming hot. I had the chicken pot pie one and it came with a gravy for dipping. My bestie had the Rueben which she said was delicious. I tried to eat my entire pasty but they are so big it was impossible. What the manager should care about instead of semantics, is the bad experience I had at his business. I've been many times to many of their locations, but I hadn't been to this one in years. My husband and I came on a Sunday afternoon. The front desk was empty when we got there - someone begrudgingly came to help us - told us it would be a wait, probably a half hour. The whole interaction was unfriendly, but I guessed maybe they were slammed and understaffed? We gave our name and phone number and decided to stop into another cool spot nearby. After a half hour, we came back and it's as if they had forgotten about us, others who had been behind us earlier were already seated (we were never texted) the same person as before said there were some tables available but they weren't clean yet...but we could sit there if we wanted. We said no problem, went over to the dirty tables, cleared the plates and glasses ourselves, waited for them to come wipe it down, they never did. We got our garlic fries (top tier), but they were out of the one thing I came here for, The Pilgrim! Devastating! I regrouped and asked the waitress what she recommended, again, she seemingly answered me begrudgingly, but I decided to go with one of the options she mentioned, the Hatch Chili Burger...this was the only saving grace of the whole experience. Amazing food great wide open space (they just added more room on the main floor) or an amazing drink selection this is one of the great spots in multiple parts of town. This time I even asked an employee how the food was made and they went on by telling me that this is a two day process and can I tell you for the food taking as long as it does it's so disgusting. It was even chunky with pieces of flour inside of it, which is a side effect of them not properly cooking the flour out. A friend ordered french fries and they were completely mushy on the inside and burnt on the out. Meaning that these french fries are being cooked two days prior and then reheated but sitting in grease probably in a bucket or a pan soaking up all of the grease and then not frying out properly. This place is the worst place in downtown Phoenix. Do not spend your money here if you are going here well intoxicated you are drunk and spending your money on food that is so disgusting but you cannot tell because you're inebriated.
