Why do we not have more English dining establishments in the Valley of the Sun? And I don't mean so-called American Pubs or wannabes! After visiting London, we've become enamored with Brit cuisine and its hominess! Not long ago we visited London and were astonished at the culinary diversity available in that cosmopolitan monster of a city! Almost every country in the world's cuisine is represented. Whether Indian or Moroccan, Spanish or Jamaican, you're going to find it there! But traditional British gastronomy is often neglected, in the past it may have had reason to be, and it has been given a bad rap over time. And I don't tend to agree with that overtly misleading philosophy. Every country in the world has its comfort food, and Britain has some of the most magnificent interpretations of their own and we're lucky to have George & Dragon an English Pub in the Valley. Not only do they offer exceptional facsimiles of the traditional like Fish and Chips, Cornish Pasties, Bangers and Mash, English Curry dishes and Shepard's Pie, but offer very well-prepared American Standards such as Burgers, Sandwiches, Salads, Tenders, Chili, Wings and more. If you've ever had the pleasure of eating real homemade English terroir farmed eats in the UK, you'll appreciate that it's not as good. Not to blame establishments or cooks in the U.S., our overly processed foods just don't stand up taste wise. Yet under those conditions, George & Dragon do an exceptional job with our poorer ingredients. We stopped in recently for a rendition of their Full English Breakfast with all the trimmings of Banger, English Bacon and Baled Beans, Sauteed Mushrooms, Grilled Tomato and two eggs any way you like them... terrific! Kudos to the Wimberley's and cooks for their bringing not just the great food across the pond, but the aesthetics of a real old English pub to the Valley - it reminded us of the ones we visited in London. We'll be back!

The food was okay. The beef within the shepherd's pie itself was pretty good. The mashed potatoes were pretty bland. As far as the service goes, it was okay. The only thing that I did like was the atmosphere. It definitely felt like english pub.

Huge shout out to Brittany for making my experience as perfect as it was. I walked in off the streets and as a dark beer drinker, I wanted something other than Guinness. She recommended Founders Porter and it was perfect. Thick, creamy and smooth. There's a good amount of lunch specials, but I asked what she recommended and she went with the Shepherd's Pie. It's a generous size for lunch and very filling. It comes with a flavorful gravy that goes nicely with the entire meal. I ordered a hot custard at the end of my meal and it was one of the best custards I've ever had. It was made fresh, not served too hot, thick, smooth, not too sweet. Restaurant is pretty big; they did a great job utilizing the space and not overcrowding the tables. There's a gaming area with pool and darts as well.

I was in love with the Cornish Pasty Company because I craved these lovely confections. But George and Dragon's short crust pastry stuffed with chicken curry and potatoes are my new go to satisfy that craving. He bartenders last night, Cat and Jana were welcoming with playful banter. They know all the regulars and even asked me for my name and chatted with me. I cannot wait to come back!

    fish and chips!! so yummy

the fish and chips were AMAZING. i'm not huge on fish and chips because of the thick batter to fish ratio but these were perfect. the ambiance was great, service was fast, will be back!!

First things first, GO ENGLAND!!! I love that they are doing watch parties for the Euros and throughly enjoyed the watch party July 6th, and looking forward to enjoying the finals this Sunday! Jolene provided amazing service and even checked in on the status of my food when it took awhile (ticket was lost). Though the menu is limited for watch parties, the English Breakfast was spot on. I love that they didn't even bat an eye to make it vegetarian, and even inquired if I was vegan. Outside of watch parties, this location is on my radar to try again as I haven't visited since COVID. My Nanny (grandma from England) always loved this pub when we were on that side of town, so this place has lots of nostalgia for me. One of the best pubs outside of England!

Food was good. Fish bites batter was a little heavy and beer cheddar would have been better than w/jalapeños like every other AZ place

Everything was really tasty and well balanced, nothing too sweet or too salty. Our favorite was definitely the Pasty. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the crust was flaky and so good. This was our first time here and it was such a nice surprise. Cozy spot, good food, good drinks, and friendly service. We'll definitely come back to try more.

As the game ended, it was announced over the intercom that customers were free to take the flags hanging from the ceiling. Naturally, people began grabbing them. A man with a gray beard, who claimed to be one of the owners of the bar, started yelling, "Stop acting like animals!" at the customers. There is a respectful and professional way to address people without insulting them, especially when everyone was simply responding to what had just been announced. Otherwise, no one would have started taking the flags in the first place. He then walked over to my fiancé and forcefully ripped a flag out of my fiancé's hands, nearly knocking her to the ground. He also grabbed another customer from behind in a highly inappropriate manner and pulled him down, putting him at risk of falling. It was a very disappointing experience, especially since I visited this pub 5-6 times throughout the World Cup and had always enjoyed coming here until this happened.

What an unexpectedly fun night!…read more I honestly had no idea what I was walking into when a friend told me I had to check out Bikini Lounge because they know I'm drawn to all things eclectic. They were absolutely right. From the moment the friendly bouncer smiled and said, "Step right on in," I was hooked. Yoooow!! The first DJ was incredible. He was spinning all kinds of trip-hop, indie, electronic, and remix-style tracks that had everybody partyin'. It wasn't your typical dance music, but every song seemed to connect with somebody in the room. The crowd was incredibly diverse, and it was so much fun watching people of every age and style dancing and nobody cared. The second DJ, a younger woman, shifted the vibe a bit and leaned more toward a younger crowd. It wasn't quite my style, so I took that opportunity to grab a seat at the bar and do what I apparently do best... chat with complete strangers. I'm a talker, and thankfully they seemed just as happy to strike up a conversation. This isn't some fancy cocktail lounge, and that's exactly the point. It's authentic. There were people dancing at the bar, grooving in their booths, bouncing in their seats, and filling the dance floor with great energy. I came by myself, and within minutes a cool group of strangers invited me to squeeze into their booth like we'd all come together. That's the kind of place this is. At one point they even offered me a glass of beer from their pitcher. I politely declined (look at me making responsible life choices... sometimes), but then I realized almost everyone had pitchers! So I sauntered over to the bar. I did have to wait a bit; apparently chivalry doesn't extend to letting a woman cut the line, but once I reached the bartender, the service was fast and friendly. Every trip back to the bar was the same. No complaints there. As the night went on, the energy just kept building. Before I knew it, I was on the dance floor sweating, smiling, and dancing with complete strangers. After a while, I had to retreat to the patio just to catch my breath before heading back in for more. My ankles are still sore... and the glutes? Fuhgetabouttit! The best part of the night wasn't the music or even the drinks. It was the people. Every generation was represented. Every fashion style imaginable. Every personality. And somehow it all worked. There was this genuine sense of joy and community that you just don't find everywhere. If you're looking for polished and upscale, this probably isn't your spot. But if you want great music, a welcoming crowd, zero pretension, and one of those nights where you leave happier than you arrived... give Bikini Lounge a shot. I went in not knowing what to expect. I left wondering why I'd waited so long to go.

A bowl of this soup costs $7.50, Vegetarian, and Available Gluten-Free (+$1). Imagine sliced leeks, starchy potatoes, butter, broth, Stilton English cheese, and heavy cream. How can you go wrong with this? Sitting at the bar with my friend, I didn't want beer. I didn't want a pasty. It was just this soup and me. When she politely asked what it was, the employee immediately got defensive instead of addressing the concern. Any customer would be alarmed if they thought there was glass in their drink. When he returned with another glass of water, he slammed it down in front of her and claimed he was the manager. Moments later, another employee came over saying he was actually the manager and that the first employee was just a barback, but he was just as rude and unprofessional. To top it all off, as we were leaving, staff flipped us off. We've never experienced such disrespect from employees over a simple and reasonable question about something that appeared to be in a drink. It was probably my first time being introduced to Irish pubs and the traditional dishes and drinks that they serve. Today, I was walking around near the ASU Downtown Campus and came across Seamus McCaffrey's. I gave it a try for lunch and enjoyed some tasty food and great service. While I didn't grab a drink, I'd certainly consider meeting friends after work there another time. I walked into the bar, and I was literally behind the bar where is was quite dark. Many of the bar seats were taken though I stepped into an area behind the bar where there were a number of open tables where I could seat myself. There was yet another room further back with booths and some creative decor, though I was happy with a table near the bar. The server came right over and made some great suggestions and introduced herself to me. She checked on me multiple times during the meal and made sure I liked what I picked. I ordered an item off the Traditional Favorites menu, the Chicken Pot Pie, which consisted of tender shredded chicken, peas and carrots smothered with herbs in a creamy white gravy under a flaky puff pastry. It also came up with a cheese stick. Both were tasty yet not too filling as I expected. There was a light breaded top to a bowl and then no bread on the bottoms or sides, but that was alright as I didn't need an over-the-top dish for lunch. While the prices are a bit higher than I would have expected them to be, it was certainly worth it, and I'll be back again. Seamus McCaffrey's opened in 1991 and brought a real Irish pub to Central Phoenix. It is a family-run bar that serves Irish classics and pub favorites. From Boxty, shepherd's pie, and fish and chips along with stacked sandwiches, burgers, and starters, the menu is not huge but still feels like it has a bit of everything. They have live music on the weekend and host special events throughout the year. The biggest celebration is its annual St. Patrick's Day street party on Monroe, a Downtown Phoenix tradition filled with great beer, great food, and a whole lot of green. Check out its website (https://seamusmccaffreys.com) to see its menu, upcoming events, photo gallery, and specials. The specials include daily specials, happy hour specials, and a $13 lunch menu. I look forward to returning again this summer!
