The service....wow. For breweries lately i feel like this place made you feel like you were at a neighborhood hangout spot or as close to home as possible which is soothing when you have children. Didn't get the vibe when you have children with you like you were looked down upon in the slightest. Which is why we try not to venture out nearly as much because our kids can be a LOT. Since not everyone knows how to deal with autistic kids out in and about and just think they are misbehaved little minions. They just have a very hard time sitting. So i was beyond thankful it wasn't insanely busy when we went on Sunday and there was shuffleboard thank god. I also happened to spill my water on accident and was frantic on trying to find something to help clean up before our waiter came back and instantly cleaned it up and was very forgiving about the situation after i kept apologizing for the mess. Now onto the beer and food. The potato scoop appetizer was absolutely amazing. By far the best appetizer I've had in ages something so simple but oh so good! Beer was great, the cocktail we got was supposed to be an award winner which was fine but not sure if it was good enough for me to want to go back repurchase that. I'll stick with the beers. Definitely cannot wait to make another trip to try out the menu up here again and get more to try out. read more

We visited Barrio Brewing at Deer Valley Airport on October 29. The food and service were okay, but the atmosphere is what will bring me back. I ordered the French dip and an Old Fashioned. The sandwich tasted decent, but it was small for the price. The Old Fashioned was good enough that I'd order it again, although I've definitely had better. My mother-in-law ordered wings and a salad, and the rest of the food was good. Our server was friendly but didn't seem to know the menu very well. We also ordered a salad to go, and it came out without the chicken. Someone from the kitchen brought the chicken separately and explained that the salad had been picked up before it was finished. There was no wait to be seated, but the food took a little longer than expected considering how few people were there. The restaurant was very clean, and the noise level was about what you'd expect. The highlight was the large window overlooking the runway. We could watch planes take off and land while we ate, and my son absolutely loved it. There's also an outdoor viewing area behind the restaurant and an observation deck above it for an elevated view of the airport. Overall, it wasn't great, but it's certainly not somewhere I'd tell people to avoid. I'll go back primarily for the unique experience of eating with a view of the runway. The food, drinks, and service have room for improvement, but watching the planes with my son made the visit worthwhile. read more

Spent a Saturday evening at Barrio Brewery at the Deer Valley location. It's a neat spot with a solid taproom feel, though timing is everything for plane spotting we missed the runway action this time, but still got a good view of the parked planes outside. Do not skip the beer bread fries! They were easily the highlight of the meal. The green chile burger was okay, but those fries stolen the show. Food came out surprisingly fast! The staff was warm and hospitable, though service ran a tad slow overall given the weekend dinner crowd. First time visit. I ordered lemon pepper chicken wings well done with ranch dressing. The wings were not well done & crispy, the skin was rubbery and I couldn't taste lemon pepper at all. Just tasted like a plain chicken wing. Started to use ranch dressing and there was a black hair sitting on top. When I brought it to the server's attention she made a face, brought a new one and never apologized or anything. My son had the Buffalo Chicken salad and my daughter had the California Burger. Took the kids to kill some time and watch the planes and helicopters! They have a observation deck above the brewery the kids loved and they had a great time on the shuffle board. We got the potatoes scoopers appetizer which was one of the best apps ive ever had a brewery. They have one of the best blondes in the state and we tried their "phoenix" cocktail that won a cocktail award at a local competition. All the staff was super nice, going to definitely have to make a trip back from Chandler, we'll worth the drive. read more

This place needs a bar rescue. It has the bones of being an excellent destination and the food is good. However, the service is lacking. We never saw our waiter after we ordered. Someone brought our food but we had no napkins or utensils. I had to go to the bar to get the check. Absolutely terrible ordered a Reuben. There was like a tablespoon of sauerkraut if you've ever had a good Reuben at a good restaurant there is a lot of sauerkraut on there couldn't taste not even eighth of a teaspoon of thousand Island dressing. It was so chewy. I mean it took me forever to eat it because it was just chewy. It's not supposed to be chewy it's supposed to be melting in your mouth. Fry's fries were terrible. They were chewy too. They weren't cooked all the way I gave I was giving them a second chance the other day I had their chicken chili I don't know some type of grilled thing and it was dry and it was not all white meat like it was supposed to be. A definite upgrade from the previous restaurant here. The ambiance was that of an airport lounge which makes sense given the location but did not have the energy you might be looking for in a brewery of this type. Excellent fresh beer options on tap, the Rojo ale was definitely a good choice. Food was what you would expect for a place like this. The brat was slightly overcooked on a dry bun but for the price point it really wasn't a major issue. If you're in the area it's worth a try as it's a different concept compared to other offerings in the area. read more

Cool little spot tucked into the airport. Their IPAs are always great - I had a Citrazona and a Hipsterville. Ice cold and super tasty! Food was average, nothing to complain about but also nothing memorable. I got a southwest chicken panini with fries - kind of dry and probably would order something else if we came back. Tried this place out a total of 2 times. Both times the service was extremely slow for how little customers were dining at the time. We walked in and both times no one was at the front to seat guests. When we were finally seated, the server would take our drink orders and we would not see those drinks for at least 15 minutes. I want to emphasize that there were not many customers dining, so the wait for drinks really shouldn't have been that long. Once our drinks were brought out, we ordered our food and had to wait about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, other tables that sat down AFTER my party had already gotten their drinks and even their meals. Honestly, this is really a shame because the place has such a unique view of the planes landing and taking off, and the food is actually pretty good. We came in for Sunday happy hour and the experience started off excellent. The atmosphere, drinks, and service were exactly what you want on a relaxed Sunday afternoon. Until about 3:30 PM, everything was a true 5-star experience. That changed when a gentleman who said his name was Matt arrived. From that moment on, the tone of the entire space shifted. Because he was the only man working out front, it was very easy to see who was responsible for the change in energy and service. We witnessed him speak rudely and dismissively to staff on multiple occasions, particularly toward female employees. What was most troubling was the clear sense of power and control in his interactions. At one point, a female staff member was about to grab us a drink, and he stopped her, telling her we needed to wait -- despite there being no apparent reason to do so. It felt unnecessary, uncomfortable, and inappropriate. Other patrons noticed as well. Conversations at the bar reflected shared discomfort, and we ultimately decided to leave early because the situation made the experience unpleasant. Every other employee working that day was wonderful -- friendly, professional, and clearly trying to provide great service. They deserve full recognition. Unfortunately, one individual, he said his name was Mat, brought the entire experience down from a 5-star visit to something we would not repeat. Barrio Brewing, this is something Human Resources should be aware of. The behavior we observed toward female staff was not acceptable and directly impacted guests. Poor service, tiny portions. Waited 5 minutes to be greeted, another 15 minutes to get seated despite open tables. Waited over an hour after we ordered to receive our food. Server never checked on us, had to track down servers to get condiments, drink refills, check, etc. Start to finish we were there for an hour and 45 minutes. Food was poor quality and tiny portions. I wanted to order appetizers, but the waitress took sooo long, I gave up and we just ordered the meal, to not delay the night further.One member of our party asked for no pink in the burger, and it was hot pink. As for the sliders, they were tough, dried-out little hockey pucks. My kids kept telling me the fries were like McDonald's with no salt, so no flavor. The food was over cooked and our table 6 all got our food at different times and one didn't even get their food until the rest of us were done. Planes, brews, and good food Barrio Brewing is Arizona's oldest brewery, founded in 1991 in Tucson. They have their main taproom restaurant in Tucson, another at Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport, and this month, they opened at the Deer Valley Airport in North Phoenix. There's lots of indoor seating, two tvs behind the bar, and a tabletop shuffleboard. Our favorite part is that they kept the model planes that hung in the previous restaurant. It's nostalgic, and kids love them. Currently, you can't take alcohol outside up on the deck, but hopefully, they'll get that license. Most of the seating has great views of the runway through the large windows anyways. I really enjoyed my Barrio bacon jam sliders with the upgrade to beer battered fries. Not that they needed it, but the sliders and fries were even better with the tasty buttermilk ranch. (If you're someone who judges by the ranch...this is a winner.) The kids' meals included an entree, side, and drink for only $7. They were good portions and my daughter was excited for "real" Mac and cheese that wasn't just kraft. Everything else was very reasonably priced, including the happy hour menu. Our bill for two adults and two kids was $72, including an appetizer, cocktail, and beer. That's a great price that's hard to come by when eating out nowadays. The food truly was fresh and very good, so the price was an added bonus. Our server Michael was also very friendly and attentive. After your meal, be sure to head outside and up to the deck. There are plastic tables and chairs under shade to watch the planes come and go. Speakers overhead let you listen to the tower communicating with the pilots. With the flight school on property, there is plenty of activity, and the kids love seeing "pilots" walk around. We have some great memories here over the years between awaiting Santa by helicopter and also building airplanes as a homeschool lesson years ago. Me and 13 other friends went here on a Friday evening. I had called in advance to let them know and they kindly reserved a table by the viewing window. HOWEVER, the owner made sure to inform me MULTIPLE time they wouldn't do separate checks for us. Did not give me very positive vibes before going in. The menu is nothing special, primarily sandwiches. My burger was ok although it was missing an I gradient listed on the menu, which they supplied after I asked. The waiter was amazing, super funny and since we were his only table, did a fantastic job of serving. Since this location is at the airport, you can look out into the operations, which can be interesting. The dining room is very nice. Great aviation decor with a commanding view of aircraft operations at Deer Valley Airport. I work near Deer Valley Airport and when Barrio opened, we were all looking forward to another venue opening in the space. The previous restaurant had outstanding food and always had a good breakfast and lunch crowd. After several visits, we are totally disappointed and rarely go to eat there. The food is mediocre to OK and the service is pleasant but slow. We were hopeful that perhaps the place would improve, but after a number of months, we are going to give up eating there. read more

We were really impressed! The airplane decor is really cool and the views of the runway while you enjoy your meal are so impressive. Food and service were stellar! I had the Baja Fish Tacos which are made of pan-seared cod and are seriously incredible. So light and delicious! My husband had the pork carnitas which were equally impressive. Both are served with their homemade salsa and chips - salsa was slightly spicy and smoky - delish! Our daughter ordered the chicken tenders which were surprisingly AMAZING - step above what one might typically expect - super good! Our waitress, Shannon, was bubbly, fun, and attentive. This place is a true Arizona GEM and such a great concept for drinks/dining with free entertainment. I never thought I could enjoy an ice cold beer and a meal while watching airplanes take off and land right in front of me. It's also a kid approved place! We have finally found a place we can take the kids out to eat and they have something to interact with and have fun doing! The happy hour is probably one of the best I've seen in years and the food we had was delicious! Great selection of brews too!
