The Service was amazing. Gabriella was our server, she went beyond her job to make sure we had a great experience. What she did was to offer other suggestions by turning around a negative with a positive, but mainly she took her time to make sure we were happy. If I owned a restaurant I would hire her in a second The atmosphere was as it should be the style of the food matched the style of the restaurant. The only issue I had was the chairs were t very comfortable. The food; we are very picky eaters, and we Yelp quite a bit. My Plate, was the pork. I enjoyed it very much. My sister's plate was the Carne Asada. She said it was too dry. We both agreed that the rice could've been better, it needed a little more flavor. Also it had skimpy serving of thin, brittle chips not up to the task of scooping guacamole. Tacos were a wholly different matter. The mahi mahi had good flavor and some spice. Tasty. The chicken taco, too, had good, complex flavor and some spice. Only the ground beef taco lacked for flavor. The mahi mahi had a generous portion of fish. Got the chicken burrito. The first one on the menu, but in a weird twist, there was way too much chicken in this thing. Some people might like that, but you couldn't taste any of the ingredients and I had to remove half the chicken as well. Other negative things were the stale chips (giant tub of chips sitting out in plain sight) and the salsas were not tasty at all. They cook the chicken from scratch too which is unusual, but also scary for undercooked. Might try something else down the road. read more

My husband and I were going to go to another restaurant; however, they were not open and I'm happy they weren't because we discovered this gem. If you want fresh, authentic Mexican food, great prices and customer service that makes you feel at home, Caliente Mexican Grill is the place. We learned of this place per YELP. When we first pulled up, we were skeptical...it's pretty unassuming from the parking lot. But...looks can be deceiving!! We were warmly greeted by our server...Saul (sp??). The guacamole was fresh and slightly chunky with very little onion or tomato. I had the "surf & turf" (sautéed shrimp and beef) and my wife had the cheese enchiladas w/ poblano sauce. The food was very fresh and flavorful. The portions are generous and the prices are fair. I had an appointment nearby, and Caliente Mexican Grill came up in a search on Yelp* for "breakfast burrito near me". I'm glad it did because the food and service were wonderful. I ordered Chips and salsa for an appetizer. Both red and green salsas were delicious. The red tasted of guajillo and arbol chiles, and had just enough heat, though somewhat mild. The green salsa was tangy, and flavorful, with very low heat. The server, a delightful young lady, noticed the salsa was getting low and she offered to get me more. I told her they were both wonderful, and she asked if I would like to try their hot habanero salsa. She brought some with more of the other two, and yes, it was HOT. It was also quite good! I ordered the 'Caliente Enchiladas', Christmas style, with extra steak, and eggs sunny side up, from the breakfast menu. I wish I had taken a picture, but I was so hungry I forgot! The enchiladas were delicious and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Both sauces were delicious, and I really can't pick a favorite. I will be back soon, even though I live on the other side of Phoenix. I want to try more of the menu, and when I do, I'll update this review. Oh, and the restaurant has plenty of seating, indoors and outside, and the place sparkles it is so clean! read more

The atmosphere is nice for a shopping center, I especially liked sitting at the bar. The Plato Caliente for 1 was enough food for me to split with my wife if she was here. So bring a good appetite. I came at 6:46 pm and my food didn't come for 45 minutes and it usually takes 15 minutes, I've been going this restaurant for years and they screwed up my order twice, and its never happened before, it's very disappointing , the food portions have significantly decreased. for what they charge it should be plenty, they served with braves didn't not listen well to our order, and I've never given a restaurant a 1 star we will not be back fern or Jazmine would of been on it. read more

Decided to try out this place in north Phoenix. Located in a small strip mall, it's kinda small inside. A bar around the grill area with some seating areas. Must have some sewer issues because that's the first thing we noticed. It was almost bad enough to walk out but decided to stay. We ordered the Plato caliente, the Plato a la mexicana, and a yaneths favorite bowl. The Plato caliente was good! Came with carnitas, steak, shrimp($2 extra), chorizo, and chicken. Also had sour cream, guacamole, rice, and tortillas. The family said that their two items were good too. We will probably come back. Hopefully they fix that smell though. read more

This is a small restaurant located in a small shopping strip. The place has a small bar area with a few seats and seating at tables. Service was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is clean but could use some decorations to give the place some personality. We had the enchilada platter and tacos. The food was made with fresh ingredients and serving sizes were generous. However, the food lacked seasoning and was bland. The enchilada sauce had a hint of maybe chili powder but lacked any depth of flavor. The meat even lacked salt. The margarita was ok, not the best, not the worst. Hands down, some of the best Mexican food in the Valley. The food is consistently fresh and you can tell they really care about their customers. We've been coming here since they opened and its a great family run establishment. Its very clean inside and colorfully decorated. Our most recent trip was just as great as all of the other times. We started with some chips and salsa as well as one of their delicious margaritas. They make all of their own salsas and they taste great. I like to get both the green and the red. We've had a number of items over the years and some of our favorites are the Nachos, Ground Beef Burrito, any of their tacos (especially on the hard shell). The Nachos have always been a generous portion, with plenty of meat and other toppings. I personally like the chorizo as it has tons of flavor. Sometimes we'll share them as an appetizer, but other times I'll just get a full order for my dinner. I really like the sour cream thats in the Ground Beef Burrito. Something about that combination always hits the spot. I always just a lot of the red salsa on that one in particular as it cuts through the fat and adds the perfect red chile flavor to it. The have a lot of different tacos to choose from, but I'll list a few of my favorites. The lobster taco on the hard shell is great! I think they fry their own shells which is the perfect touch. It gives the taco so much more flavor than just buying a pre-made hard shell. I like the green salsa on this one. The fried fish taco is also great with a nice big piece of fish. Finally the carnitas taco is always a hit. I'll usually get a soft corn tortilla on this one (I think you get a bit more filling this way). They make great carnitas that are full of flavor. I personally like the red salsa on this one as well. On our last visit, I got the Plato Caliente and I can't recommend it enough. This is the best way to sample a little bit of their most popular meats, plus you can order it for 1-3 guests. You get steak, chicken, chorizo, and carnitas. Its topped with onions and jalapenos plus you get tortillas, rice, beans, along with guacamole and sour cream on the side. You can't go wrong with this one. Its always fresh, tastes great, and very filling. You won't be disappointed. We're usually pretty stuffed at the end but that hasnt stopped us from ordering a desert a time or two. The sopapillas are good, but I think the Flan is their best desert. You can tell they make it in house and its always great. If you still have room for a couple bites of desert, its absolutely worth it. Some of the best Mexican food around!!! read more

We adore Maria and the whole Caliente family! We love both locations, but most frequently visit the Phoenix one. It's always clean, bright, and welcoming. Saúl is most often at the front register, and he is sweet, helpful, and attentive. My partner usually gets a daily special or one of the platos with shrimp or steak. I make an effort to try new things, but I have my favorites: chilaquiles, mini chimis, Arturo's favorite burrito (carne asada, fries, cheese, and sour cream), poblano enchiladas, chicken flautas, and tacos. I love that they offer fresh crunchy shells! My favorites are the shrimp (perfectly cooked!), the chicken, and the carnitas (also delish as a plate or in the occasional mole special). Everything is flavorful but not spicy - you can add heat with their fresh salsas. Wonderful family making wonderful food! read more

I've been to the Scottsdale location a couple of times and their taco salad was delish!! When I saw they opened a new location in Deer Valley near my house I was thrilled. My husband and I went for dinner at 7PM, they close at 8PM. I forgot to take a photo but we had their chips and a variety of salsas that were fresh and very tasty. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with poblano sauce with the rice and black beans. Soooooo good, that sauce is mouth watering. My husband got the fried shrimp tacos and he said they were fresh, hot, crispy. I also got a skinny margarita which had the perfect amount of sweetness.
