I highly recommend Kris Fresh Frybread - locally owned, good quality, pleasant service, and supper yummy food!! Took my lunch group of 12 here and we all had a delightful time. The green chili taco's are to die for, and I branched out and tried a burrito which was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The food took a little while to come out as we all ordered basically at the same time and they make everything to order - but the wait is worth it. I see in other posts people were unhappy because certian items didn't come with added things like onions or cilantro with the Pozole - if you read the menu it states clearly the price of "extra fixings". Here's the 411 I was scouting local food and wanted something outside the norm so I found Kris Fresh Frybread by doing a food search on my maps. I figured, why not give them a try. Let me start by saying there are TONS of positives about this place. To start, they have lots of variable options for frybread food both savory and sweet. I uploaded the menu to help you navigate options and pricing. Upon walking in I was greeted by a nice fella named Adrian. I mentioned it was my first time visiting so he asked me a few questions regarding my food cravings and heat characteristics. I told him I was interested in something a little on the spicy side, but delicious so he offered to give me a sampling of both the green and red chile (both available for the frybread taco). ----While the red was good but more for folks who have a low heat tolerance- the green was my cup of tea as my Latina palate is always down for something flavorful and BOMB! The green was a symphony of soft shredded beef and green chilies that had an amazing balance of salt and gave me just the right amount of heat. After sampling, Adrian gave me a quick rundown of the remainder of the menu and I opted for the "Open Face Papago Taco".. My choice of meat (Of course I couldn't turn down the beef & green chile, beans, cheese and topped with freshly shredded lettuce). I also opted to go with a sweet frybread topped with honey and powdered sugar. (Also delicious). HERES AN INTERESTING THING THIS RESTAURANT OFFERS - THAT MANY DO NOT: Adrian mentioned they have a "PAY IT FORWARD".. option also. This entails a patron who may be interested in buying any menu item(s) and then that item is offered to individuals who cannot afford or pay for a meal. Essentially the meal/item is printed on a receipt and placed on a cork board for lets say, a local transient or maybe a single parent out of money and needs a way to feed his/her child and self for a one time meal. Maybe even a homeless teen.. who knows? What I do know is I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! So I opted to buy a few items to add to the cork board for future patrons. There is also a school food discount menu where anyone with a valid school ID can get items for only $5. (Must bring/show ID). Happy eating folks! ABOUT THE SPACE: Another positive is the ample space inside which means no two chairs will be bumping into each other. Plus the ambiance is peaceful and the temp inside is perfect on a hot day. There are 2-tops, 4-tops, 6-tops as well as 8-top tables so the whole family could come and enjoy a meal together. There is one bathroom for customers that is labeled male/female. There is also a baby changing station inside that helps with parents who have littles. High chairs are also available. FOOD VARIETY: Some other food options are Menudo, Pozole, Red Chile Stew, Various Burritos and other Frybread options. I was also told you can get half & half as far as both red and green chile. So that would be good for a couple who wants to go half & half. This restaurant has several drink options which includes sodas & Mexican bottle cola, plus a fresh unsweetened tea is made fresh daily. (Sweetener is available). Prices are fair and the food is hot and VERY filling. Again, I highly suggest anyone try the green chile as it is truly to die for! ONLY CON: My only wish is that the fry-bread is less on the chewy side and more airy and crispy. Again, this is just me being picky about my frybread. OVERALL: Overall, I would absolutely visit again and recommend Kris' Fresh Frybread to anyone and everyone! I have written about fry bread and beans before. I called them Creative Army Food Rations meals. That is not the case for the people of the Sonoran Desert. White Sonora Wheat is believed to have been introduced into the region that is today's border separating the U.S. and Mexico by Padre Kino in the 15th century, and it is known for its unique flavor and texture. Considered to be a heritage grain, White Sonora Wheat has fared better in terms of a revival than other heritage grains. I heard this Sanish wheat variety was brought to Sonora, did not do well at first. Over a century it was bred into a productive desert wheat variety. When you enjoy a meal by Kris, you particiate in a 500 year regional tradition. Kris honors that tradition, providing diners with generous portions created with knowledge, skill and taste. I am a fan of frybread, beans and cheese. Soft, puffy frybread, excellent beans, and cheese that ine time might have been called "commod cheese" USDA fine mild cheddar. If I'm wrong about the cheese Kris, let me know. The USDA no longer distributes commodity foods, just debit cards. Support Unbridled Capitalism and all that stuff. The fam got two red chile ftybreads and one ground beef. Our table sounded like a beehive - yummmmm. A fantastic location, excellent food, regional and national art on the walls. Never had fry bread before so decided to check it out. The place itself is in an offset building of a strip mall. Inside it is pretty bare bones - recently printed menu, small counter to order, and a few tables. The menu is fairly small, but has a variety of fry breads with a variety of topping from which to pick. I opted for a combination of red and green chili topped with beans, cheese, and lettuce. With out question the best ground beef I've ever eaten. The Frybread is perfect and delicious. I just ordered the "Frybread with Ground meat", and it didn't even need lettuce and cheese! Very generic. My open face fry bread was extremely dry and it was more like having a picnic. Plastic utensils, paper plates, bus your own table. My wife's taco was very dry and greasy. My husband sought this place out based on a recommendation and we were definitely not disappointed. The restaurant is located in a plaza with ample parking. And the venue itself is pretty spacious and welcoming, with some tables and chairs to dine in, and also had a clean restroom for patrons to use. They advertise fresh fry bread with different toppings--plain, ground beef, different sauces, cheese, taco, popover, etc. My husband opted for the Ground Beef Frybread without toppings and I got the plain option. They were quite delicious, especially when made fresh. The portions were huge, very flavorful for the fry bread, and I still can't get over how fresh and fluffy these tasted. Honestly, the aroma of the made to order fry bread was so mouthwatering. We initially got the items to go, but scarred down our orders immediately at a nearby table since it was too hard to resist the smell and flavors. Each item is made fresh and cooked to order. I think we saw roughly 3 other employees making a bunch of orders. They had only a handful of people in the restaurant, but at least 2 other people awaiting their orders. They're quick to prepare these items and had them nicely packed in to go wrapping along with plastic ware. The decor--Native American Art and artifacts--were pretty awesome to look at. Kris' was a great choice for authentic fry bread. Their tacos are huge and super flavorful. I had the green chilie taco and my wife had the cheese and bean taco. The fry bread was pillowy and not overly greasy. I would have loved to try their pasole but they only offered it as a 12 oz serving and I was pretty full from the taco. Amazing flavors! When you walk in, it looks like a mom and pop restaurant without the frills of fine dining. Standing to order, paper plates and plastic utensils. It must be better if you are not a vegetarian. I got a cheese and bean burro. I was expecting it to be in the fry bread but it wasn't. It was a very average burrito. They didn't even give me any salsa! I also got the fry bread with powdered sugar and honey. It was good but didn't blow me away. I should have gotten rez fries but didn't see them until after I had ordered. Service was quick for take out and the restaurant didn't seem to have much ambiance. Not sure I will be back. read more

I stopped here to grab some food before heading to the hospital to deliver my baby and honestly, the green chile was so good it might have sent me into labor! Kris' Frybread is an amazing low-key spot for fresh frybread and great food, but what really makes this place special is how welcoming it feels. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable, like you're visiting family rather than just stopping at a restaurant. I came here often while I was pregnant with my fiancé, and over time we got to know everyone. Lena always greets people with a warm smile and is incredibly friendly. Kris will often come by our table to say hello when she sees us, which always makes us feel so welcome. Lena's mother also comes out to say hi when she's there, and it just adds to that home-like feeling. When we came back recently with our baby boy, they were all so excited to meet him. Moments like that really show how much they care about the people who come through their doors. Great food, amazing service, and a place that truly feels like home. 10/10 -- and apparently the green chile is labor-inducing levels of good! read more

I've always have seen this place when I go to one of my favorite bakeries next door and haven't had a chance to try yet. It was previously a Salvadorian type of food place so I wanted to try it today since I was holiday shopping nearby. Imagine my surprise to learn the other place was out of business and this place is taking it's place about 2 months ago from the point of this review writing. It's a relatively new place obviously and I hope it does well. The menu consists of fry bread dessert and meal types and Burros and other types of local Flair. Canned soda only Pepsi products. I got the b i r r i o fry bread. It came with a beef type of broth. It was absolutely delicious I'll definitely be going back for other items to try and the people working there were delightful. Definitely got me addicted to frybread, and the tortilla on the cheese crisp was very different from San Diego/Tijuana tortillas. It was a bit thicker and heavier but very very delicious. The staff were also so sweet and helpful, I'd definitely recommend trying this place! The food is great!! The restaurant's name says it all. The freshly made frybread is authentic and be prepared to get an endorphin rush because the chilie is hot. How have I gone 5 months without knowing about Kris Fresh Frybread? I noticed it today and tried a basic honey frybread. Crisp, wonderful flavor, good honey and more than I could eat. Next visit will be lunch not dessert! Friendly people, Kris works the front and the back, making sure everything is as it should be. The basic restaurant set-up has Native American art for sale on walls. Reasonable prices add the extra incentive for me to drive about 20 miles to get there. read more

As someone born and raised in Arizona, I'm not joking when I say I grew up eating frybread. It's my ultimate comfort food, and I've tried nearly every frybread house in the valley. One thing I run into way too often is a bad aftertaste. Sometimes I'm left with this greasy film in my mouth that just ruins the whole experience. I don't know if it's the oil they use, if they don't pat it down after frying, or if the oil is old--but it's not good. I recently saw the grand opening for Kris Fresh Frybread on TikTok, and even though it's nowhere near my house, we had to venture out and see if it would pass my frybread test. Let me be honest, the most popular spots in Phoenix haven't been great in my opinion. I couldn't have been happier! The frybread was perfectly fluffy and didn't fall apart. The red chile was savory and amazing--and I'm a total red chile snob! This is by far my new favorite spot for frybread (and pozole). My daughter ordered the red pozole and a bean frybread. Let me tell you about her: she has Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and a ton of food sensitivities. She has to take a digestive enzyme when she eats to avoid a lot of pain, so she's incredibly particular. She was so incredibly happy with both the pozole and the frybread and the beans. She just kept saying, "Why isn't this closer to our house?" And can I tell you...there's an after school discount posted for students and a Pay it Forward board for those who need/want a meal. That's someone who is committed to serving their community. It's 35 minutes away without traffic, and you better believe we'll be regulars....support local! read more
