We have been patronizing this restaurant for many years and I have finally found a food item that I didn't like. I know, everyone has an opinion that may differ from the person at the next table, but first I will tell you what I liked. I won't detract from their establishment with anything less than a five star rating just because I didn't like an item. This was the first time that I didn't thoroughly like everything. In all our visits, I had never tried the albondigas. Today, I did! While I prefer the stronger green chile variation of albondigas, this bowl was excellent! It was mildly spicy, but so very tasty! I would definitely order it again. My wife had the shrimp fajita plate with calabacitas instead of bell pepper. She really liked it. Now, what I didn't like was the quesadilla supreme with chorizo. I had never ordered it here even though I absolutely love chorizo. It was bland with very little spice. Some people may like it like that, but I expected at least a medium spicyness. We will continue to eat at this restaurant because there are so many wonderful items, but I would never order a chorizo item again. The employees have always been efficient and the establishment has always appeared clean. Oh! Before I forget, I must mention that the one item that keeps us coming back is their excellent salsa that is served with the chips. Always good! read more

I had a red chili chimi with rice and beans. I like to mix together my rice and beans so I couldn't really tell, but either the beans or the cheese had a sour taste to them, not like sour cream sour, sour like it was possibly old tangy food. I hadn't had a chimi in a while when I thought let me just eat. I didn't get sick, so maybe it was just me. Service was very good and prompt. Ambiance, it would be nice if there where music. I felt like I was in the back of a kitchen hearing plates dishes and cookwear clanking in the background. There really wasn't any, ambiance I mean. We had a couple of margaritas. Not really sure how much they were. But I don't think it was sad. I felt like I was just drinking mixer, and I didn't want to pay for an extra shot of tequila. The flavor was more mixer than tequila. Went on a Wednesday evening at 7pm and the place was pretty much empty. We've dined here a few times in the past and the food was above average. This time, it was hardly average. 3 of us got the Fry Bread: 1 with ground beef, 1 with shredded beef and 1 with green chile. The green chile and shredded beef were good but the ground beef was not. My son ordered Carne Asada fries and they were swimming in cheese sauce with MAYBE 5 pieces of carne on them - they were TERRIBLE! The service was good - drinks were refilled before we needed them and he was quick with any additional requests. I come from a family that has been in Mexican food restaurant for 83 years now. Invariably I judge how good the food is had a new place by trying out green chile and a burrito and typically with green sauce. My friend arrived before me and ordered the cheese crisp. It was good to above average based on similar Sonoran style cheese crisps with a mix of Monterey and sharp cheeses. Of course she was sad down and obviously received the ubiquitous chips salsa and hot sauce. A chips were okay the salsa was a little bit bland and the hot sauce too. My green chile burrito with green enchilada sauce and refried beans plate came. I diced up the green chile burrito to grab a first really good bite with the filling besides the sauce on top. I made immediately noticed a little bit of a different taste to the green chili. It took me a minute to realize that I'm pretty sure they use some kind of corn blended into the green chili sauce which gives it a little bit sweeter taste. I'm not saying that it's bad it's just something I'm not quite used to seeing when tasting green chili. I'm sure others will find it fine and very good tasting. The service was okay nothing to brag about they didn't check to see how I like my food they didn't see if we needed more drinks or anything like that since we weren't there very long but we did beat the dinner rush, so it seem like our waiter was just a little worn out from the weariness of being a Mexican food waiter, but he was fine. The atmosphere was just starting to pick up when we were done and it is a typical Sonoran style restaurant/ cantina which seem to have a great selection of tequila if you're wanting to partake. I'm very much not into drinking alcohol and neither was my dinner guest so we just had a couple of soft drinks and that was that. The price would be something I would assume is fairly average for the cost anymore for drinks and appetizer and a main dish for about 30 bucks. They seem to have a really nice outdoor patio which is on Central and the street is pretty quiet so it's actually fairly inviting when it's this time of year which was a great evening and very comfortable to be seated at if you wanted to be outside the noise and bustle of the restaurant dining room. It's a great neighborhood hangout type restaurant and bar and I would assume that many people here were great regulars as they were sporting some of the local high school shirts. Three of us hung out on the patio for an early dinner. As I mentioned before, this is a friendly neighborhood joint with decent food and margaritas that are just fine. Nothing fancy. This is a hidden gem. When I'm in the Phoenix area I make it a point to stop in. Nothing fancy just great food and a ridiculous low price. 6 of us went to dinner there last night. Drinks are very reasonable, beers are $5 and up and great margaritas. Ordered the OMG burrito and was more than I could eat. Others ordered tacos, chile relleno, burritos. Nothing was over $17. We come here every time we visit home. This has been my dad's favorite restaurant as long as I can remember and for good reason, it's amazing!! This place has been here for a long time but I have never thought to stop in. Upon the walk in the restaurant is a good size and has 2 sides to it. Bar on one side and dine in on the other. This place has a good ambiance and can tell it has a deep Mexican tradition. The server met us right away and was super friendly while walking us to the table. Our waitress was good in her knowledge and she was responsive and fast with the order and when paying. Our table had the fajitas half chicken half steak and a bean burrito enchilada style. I always end up stopping by this restaurant whenever I visit Phoenix. The vibe is very welcoming and the food is great! There's a small parking lot with a good amount of spots and there is outdoor seating available. Our server was attentive and was able to take our order by memory. Ordered a skinny margarita. It didn't taste like it had alcohol so I asked the server if she brought a virgin one. She said no and that she would fix it. Brought it back and it tasted like someone poured soda in it. It was more bland, now fizzy and still didn't taste like it had tequila in it. She eventually took it off the bill. Ordered two beef enchiladas Christmas style (combo of red and green sauce). When she brought it out I thought I had been given someone else's order (see photo). The "green" sauce was tan in color and in taste. It had a skin on it with the consistency of canned gravy. Gross. Ended up scraping it off. I asked her what was in the "green" sauce and she said she didn't know and would find out. She didn't come back until it was bill time and never found out for us. The whole beans were not seasoned at all. The rice was the consistency of oatmeal. Save your money and taste buds and try elsewhere. There are way too many Mexican restaurants for the effort to be this low. Too bad because this place looked cute. read more

This place has a nice Olde-tyme Mexican restaurant feel to it. Staff is friendly and super patient, and their chips and salsa were tasty. Their regular red salsa was nice and the spicier green sauce is quite good. Service was fast once we were seated! We didn't wait more than 10 minutes for our meals, and they came out hot and fresh. I liked the carne asada street taco trio which came on soft corn tortillas and were nicely seasoned, but their regular chicken tacos came in crispy fried shells and were flavorless and greasy. Others at the table enjoyed their mixed burritos and their enchiladas. All in all it's a great down-the-street place to have a nice family meal. Pretty sure we found our new favorite Mexican food place. The place is old school and is very dated however, was clean and had great food so that didn't bother me as it might others. Hubs kept making comments about the back of the booth being duck taped lol We got a pollo fundido, OMG burrito which is green chili with potatoes, chicken taco and tostada with ground beef and beans. Their chips and salsa reminds me of my childhood favorite Mexican place (Pedros) which has been closed for a couple years now. No other Mexican foods compared and I preferred to cook my own Mexican food until we tried this place. The chicken was so tender and delicious. The rice and beans were perfectly made and seasoned. The OMG burrito was packed with green chili and potatoes. The taco and tostada were amazing as well. I'm a bit annoyed at myself for waiting so long to try this place. Larger veggie Mexican food selections and Mexican style pasta dishes. Ordered the OMG Burrito with green chile con carne with grilled potatoes. We also shared a cheese quesadilla.
