As a California native, I feel personally victimized by the name "Cali Tacos." Nothing about this experience screamed California. In fact, I think the restaurant should seriously consider rebranding to "Texas Tacos" because these tacos were nowhere near California standards. Let's start with the tortillas. As you can clearly see, they looked like they had just come out of a refrigerator, not off a grill. Cold tortillas are a crime against tacos. The beans tasted canned, and somehow the rice seemed more refried than the refried beans. That's a level of culinary innovation I wasn't prepared for. Then there were the wings. Respectfully, if a taco shop can't get tacos right, why are we branching out into wings? The sauce tasted suspiciously like it came straight from Costco. Not that there's anything wrong with Costco, but I wasn't expecting a wholesale club collaboration. Now, I will give credit where it's due: the jamaica agua fresca was absolutely delicious. It was easily the star of the meal and the only thing that transported me anywhere close to Southern California. As the only Black person in the restaurant, I also felt a certain vibe from the staff, and not in a good way. Maybe it was because I was standing next to my Mexican husband. Maybe it wasn't. Either way, the service felt uncomfortable enough to notice. If you're looking for authentic California-style tacos, keep driving. If you're looking for aggressively average Arizona tacos, congratulations, they've absolutely nailed the assignment. One star for the tacos. Five stars for the agua fresca. Well for starters, walked in, wasn't greeted or anything. The frontal person was very rude and just gave a look as if we were making her day horrible by even walking in. That kind of threw the whole atmosphere off even walking in. I even complemented them and still had bad attitude. We ordered our food and was asked the name for the order, we wait for the food and don't even get our name called. The front person just gives us a look as if we are supposed to know that our food was ready. Food was overall dry and unseasoned. Pretty overpriced for quality and size. Very very sad. Was expecting way more but from all the one stars..can't say I'm even surprised. Def not coming back and wouldn't recommend you come either. Please stop it! You are not the best tacos. And no one has shitty ass tacos in California. The beef was so chopped it looked like ground beef. The tortillas were cold and stale. The pastor was dry and tasteless. The birria was watered down. No flavor and no taste or texture. The beans were from a can. The rice has been reheated so many times is hard and dry. This was a very disappointing experience because on top of that they took a long time to get the food. My wife had fries and wings. The wings taste like they were microwaved and just poured red hot sauce. The fries were so soggy and had no salt or anything. This place is lame as fuck honestly. Go to tacos el rojo. Shit! Not great. I've tried the location in Chandler and love it so I was pretty excited about this one being so close to home. Food was mid. Service as well. I hope they get better as they are open longer. They don't even have their liquor license yet so I couldn't drink away the whole experience. As of now I don't think I'll be going back. The food is very good. It is a Friday night and orders are backed up and people are waiting. A lot of DoorDash orders going out, which is a good thing but one person, Ciria, is ringing customers, bagging food and taking calls on her cellphone. At one point, I overheard her say that there is a customer waiting 25 minutes for their order. I understand that a business in a new location is trying to cut corners to make sure things work out. We had the carne asada burritos. The carne wasn't very flavorful. The burrito overall was okay. The price was good, at $10. Had a crunchy beef taco also. It had lots of meet and the texture was great, but again, not very flavorful. I won't go back for lunch/dinner. I might give them a try for a breakfast burrito. The service at the counter was good. The chairs weren't very comfortable, eating in. Nice that they had sports in TV, but the employees must've not been paying attention to what was on. There was a Phoenix Suns game happening at the moment, and yet they had on some other random NBA basketball game that wasn't very good. Just ordered a Cali Burrito. Very bland, the wrapper was literally wrapped into the burrito, fries were soggy, and just lacked any flavor.
