This is not my first time here at the attic so I knew what to expect food wise - as the dish I ordered, Gumbo, is one I came specifically for. It was delicious, everything tasted fresh and flavourful and had a little kick that was perfect for the gloomy weather. Coming in on a Sunday morning around 10am and was seated immediately, there were about 5 other tables sat when I arrived so if you want to beat the rush, go then! The music is always nice and the vibe of the attic is cosy and quaint. My waitress was friendly and checked in on me a good amount, no complaints here. I came in for the last few weeks of their summer menu I believe so I may have to go back soon and see what they have in fall - as the menus are seasonal! read more

The food here has such deep, rich flavors! We had to fight to find street parking but it was worth it for the food. The menu is not too broad, which works for them getting their dishes just right. The shrimp and grits were so fluffy and savory, it almost feels like a soft omelette. And the shrimp was seasoned so well. The chicken had a great crunch and the meat inside was soft and hot. The waffle was soft and was great with both the syrup and the gravy we ordered extra. You honestly don't need the gravy, the chicken is seasoned plenty. We came for an early breakfast before the brunch rush so staff was attentive and we did not wait long for our table or food. Great experience on a Sunday morning for Easter! Food was fresh and tasted great. Good oat milk latte and while I didn't have any alcoholic beverages, my fam said they were good. Kid friend as well! They have a full bar, indoor and outdoor seats. And their menu was compendious. Weekends tend to be very, very busy so get acclimated to wait for a table and/or be served. I came to grab brunch and luckily didn't wait to be seated; I sat at the very corner of the bar. I had drip coffee and Chicken 'n waffle. Unfortunately, it was a bit bland despite the syrup poured in. Coffee was fine. Collectively, their food was just ordinary nothing really special; not even an ounce of a Southern flavor. I had better C & W at a non-Southerner breakfast spot in So Cal. On a positive note, their service was moderately slow on weekends. Prices of the food were a bit expensive for an average serving. Staff were competent and nice. Atmosphere was vibrant. Plenty of street parking. Toilet was clean and odorless. Overall, I had a decent meal. And was not utterly blown away with their brunch food. The place is dog friendly and even has a dog menu. It's good for group gatherings, small groups, dates and happy hour. Probably a much better place for breakfast/brunch. This was our first time and the place felt cozy and cool! Service from the getgo- host to the wait staff - was attentive, friendly and informative. We just missed the brunch menu so we ordered off the happy hour menu. All the food sounded wonderful. We ordered the ribs, chicken sandwich, lobster roll and gumbo and the garlic fries. However, when our chicken sandwich arrived, I thought it was a mistake and someone had mixed up our order with someone's hamburger--- that's how charred it was. We should have sent it back but we were in a rush and thought it was just along the edges, anyway. The lobster roll was pretty good. But could use just a tad more... mayo?butter? Gumbo was great! Great flavoring, great level of spice. Really enjoyed it. The ribs were a happy hour portion and did not come w any starch(which was fine). Upon first bite, it was good- fall off the bone, sauce was a bit on the sweet side but with unique flavoring. However, it was really drenched in sauce, which I typically like but because it was sweet, it became too much by the 3rd/4th bites. I would recommend this with fries or something else to break it up a bit. The place overall was a good experience and the staff make up for the lack of flavor balance in their food. But i probably wouldn't order off their happy hour menu again.. and def not the charred chicken sandwich. We will be sure to arrive early enough for their brunch instead next time. With The Attic, we have trouble deciding if we should go for brunch, happy hour, or dinner. The selections change enough so that there are items we love on each menu. Mac and cheese with hot Cheetos is always a favorite. I've had their lobster roll which is divine. The chicken sandwich is maybe my favorite. The margaritas are so so good. The bartender/server that is there in the afternoon/evening/happy hour time (IDK his name) is a great server. He remembers us and everything he recommends is excellent. I had The Attic bookmarked on Yelp for a while and finally decided to give it a try. I have been wanting to try avocado toast, and figured this would be a good place for it. When we arrived, my partner and I asked to sit inside, but we were told outdoor seating was the only option. Yet we noticed other guests were seated indoors, which rubbed us the wrong way. It didn't start the experience off on the best note. We ordered the avocado toast, and to be fair, it was really good. I also got the chicken and waffles, which were just okay. My partner ordered a burger and fries and it was okay. He specifically asked for no sauce, but it still came with sauce. He is not one to send food back, so he wiped it off and tried to eat as much as he could that wasn't still saturated with sauce. Service was also just okay. We had to flag someone down to place a drink order and again to ask for the check. Overall, the experience was fine, but nothing really stood out enough to make us want to come back. To my surprise the Mac and Cheetos were great. Very decadent and not appropriate as a side dish for a single person but really delicious and full of whimsy lol. The burger was also pretty solid. Juicy and flavorful but nothing in particular to write home about. One thing that I would write home about is the Bunny in the Bank cocktail. A mezcal drink with carrot syrup? The meat was tender and mostly fell off the bone, and the flavors were bold and well balanced. We also ordered the Short Rib Poutine - it wasn't bad, but nothing really stood out to make it memorable. I also tried the biscuits with sorghum. The biscuits themselves were pretty standard, but the butter with that dark, syrupy drizzle on top was a nice touch and added a bit of sweetness. Our second time here and it was quite nice. Pretty busy for Sunday brunch but got seated right away. Hostess checked us in and we got seated right along the front patio. Our waitress, such a sweetheart who took care of us. Didn't remember her name though. Of course the last visit, the Bloody Mary was a big hit so we needed that again. If you haven't had stuffed olives, you're missing out. And for the price, it's well worth it. Also started off with some of the biscuits. Didn't know that jam was an additional fee. It's served 2 to an order and with butter and honey. It was quite nice with the flakey crust and moist soft inside. Perfect alone as is. Entrees, the gumbo with shrimp and sausage and chicken. That was served with rice. I had it the other time and quite enjoyed it but this time the portion seemed smaller. Still good though. Also went with Not So Nashville sandwich. A fried chicken sandwich with slaw in a chef sauce. That was quite nice and messy. It was good and pretty big and served with fries. This visit was nice. Went for dinner Saturday night. No wait, sat at booths, in covered area that still felt open with no walls/doors blocking view of the patio. Ambiance was nice, a bit like a covered porch with string lights, and bar across from us. Good size crowd. The hostess, server and busser were all very friendly and competent. We especially had a great chat with the busser. He told us all about the history of the restaurant, and pointed out parts of the former house it was built in. Great guy who is very proud to work here. So rare! Now, the FOOD. EXCELLENT! First, the biscuits. YES! The flavor is so good and comforting. The soft butter with honey/molasses adds such decadence it might as well be dessert. I'm usually disappointed with biscuits and don't order them. But I'm so glad I took a chance on these! Flakey/crispy exterior, interior more denser, not flakey. All good. Hubby had the chicken cooked under coals, and man, it was delicious! Half a chicken, full of the coals roasted flavor, on farro grains that seems to be in the same sorrel /lemony sauce my salmon had. With an interesting mix of small greens on top, almost like chimichurri. I saw the steak and the pork cops that get good reviews and they looked good. But if in the mood for chicken, this is a great choice! I had the salmon. It seemed to be poached (my only slight disappointment- I prefer some charring on my fish), was soft and delicately flavored in French white sauce sprinkled with sorrel herb - which has a tangy lemon flavor. It is a perfect traditionally French style salmon. I was slightly disappointed in how little it came with. It literally is just the fish and sauce, and you can have rice on the side. (I didn't) Not a "meal" like the chicken and other dishes I saw that had significant portions of veggies/fruits and or grains. But still, it tasted great and was very filling. We both had fries on the side. And man, 10 stars on the fries!!!! I can't explain what makes a good fry. But it's these. Some crispy, grease cooked in, some not as crispy. The space, vibe, and location were great however (visit Iguana Imports across the street for great candles among other things).... Ok... I had left this review unfinished for whatever reason. The space and vibe are still great, though it was noticeably less busy than previous visits. The cocktails were delicious. They are interesting concoctions and have changed over the years. The menu... not so much. The Mac and Hot Cheetos has been a solid performer the few times we've had it. But adding the fried chicken took it to a new level. After a disappointing chicken and waffles, and good but nothing special breakfast burrito in the past, I thought I'd try the potato pancakes and a side of sausage. Other pictures of the pancakes showed 4 larger pancakes. I got 8 small hockey pucks of... maybe potato. All you could taste was salt. My friend's fries were also terribly over seasoned, even the burger just tasted of salt. We told the waitress, she was just like... oh. The pancakes were the last dish bought to the table (and way overcooked, so I didn't eat half of them) and the sausage was one sausage, cut in half (not 2 - as noted on menu). Okay. Misleading. In years of coming here the brunch menu (unlike the cocktail menu) doesn't seem to have changed one iota in that time. My husband and I just went to dinner and it was so great. The Attic is one of the best restaurants in Long Beach, with seasonal ingredients that change with the weather. I had the sardines and the artichokes- both of which are difficult to find on a menu. The sardines were AMAZING and the bones are removed. They come with a delicious toast that I've never had anywhere else. The artichokes were ok...a bit too much tartar sauce but still very good. My husband had the bolognese (vegan version) and he loved it. The biscuits with sorghum butter are to die for. Mel and Kylie were great servers, very nice and attentive.
