One of my favorite things about this place is their dog-friendly patio in the back, which made it the perfect brunch spot for me and my pup. We stopped by on a Thursday morning just right after the farmers market next door. Instead of a meal, a drink was what we came for. Outside along the side has a large communal table, tables in the back and seating along the fire pits and well as a little sunken seating area. Came here for the sunset social night which was also the same night as the tinned fish tasting event. We had the option of sitting outside by the fire pits but the seats are kinda deep in that you'd lean back really far and tables are pretty small so its good for sitting out for drinks with friends but not so much on the food. In fact it's so popular, I wasn't able to walk in for lunch yesterday, and had to try again today with a reservation this time. If you're driving, there should usually be street parking available - too bad I came on a Wednesday morning during street cleaning, and had to settle for the adjoining pay-for-parking ParkMobile lot. Everything about the place is so charming, from the portafilter that serves as the front door handle to the modern open ceiling/open kitchen concept inside, very reminiscent of the titular restaurant from the show The Bear. Known for their farm-to-fork offerings, the menu highlights organic eggs, herbs and fresh bread from local partner Hey Brother Baker. We ordered the Breakfast Sandwich and Avocado Tartine, both of which were packed with flavor, the tartine especially with an extra kick as it was topped with pickled peppers. The breakfast sandwich was just a bit too greasy, that I could only finish half in one sitting. The true star of our breakfast were the drinks! The drip coffee was bold and strong, and the Earl Grey Matcha might just have become my new favorite drink - Earl Grey cold foam on top of a strong iced matcha, who knew that London and Japanese tea flavors could blend together so perfectly. I was so impressed by their cafe selection I asked for their other holiday special the Cinnamon Roll Latte to go - sadly was not as amazing, and the server also brought my cup to the wrong dining party and I had to awkwardly retrieve it myself. It was also a bit overdressed. We got the hot blueberry muffin latte 50% sweet. It tasted more like a dessert than coffee. Menu is limited, not too much to choose from. The mimosa was good along with assorted juice flavors. The main thing I noticed at this location.... drum roll.... This place is expensive!! Pretty much sandwiches are $20 and over. Adding adult beverages and parking.. just adds to it. For a party of 2 your looking almost at $80. What a cool and chill neighborhood cafe in Retro Row. There is some street and lot parking in the area but get there early because it does get busy. We made a brunch reservation for a Saturday early afternoon. As soon as you walk in, you are invited into their home which makes you feel invited. Decor gives off a modern farmhouse style which is my fave so I really enjoyed it. Our waiter was great and was the sweetest guy ever. He gave us recommendations on what are some of the favorites and also took our drink order. I ordered the Blueberry Muffin Latte and my boyfriend got the Pistachio Rose Cold Brew. My latte was so pretty that I didn't want to drink so I made sure to capture the beauty of it. I was a little scared that it was going to be super sweet but I think the cinnamon added that smoky flavor. It was great. I've really loved alder's brunch for awhile now. You can tell they use the clean and high quality ingredients. Everything is executed to perfection. I recently decided to try dinner service and I was blown away. As a self proclaimed wino, I was ecstatic with their wine list.
