I had this place booked marked for too long, super happy I finally tried it. The food was delicious. The presentation of the food was chefs kiss. The server was very attentive and did not disappoint. And it just the cutest little breakfast / coffee shop very modern. I can't wait to go back

For my bestie's birthday we decided to come here for brunch and it was a great choice. First off the location is really pretty. Modern minimalist style. They have indoor and outdoor seating, the patio has mulberry trees and a nice lounge area. I had the chicken sandwich which was delicious. A moist chicken breast on a soft freshly baked bun. Comes with some sauces that I opted for them to be put on the side. Comes with garlic fries. Definitely very tasty. My bestie ordered the short rib with polenta. I had a taste of it and it was amazing. Very tender and flavorful. Service was great, our sever was very friendly, helpful. He gave us his advice on his two favorite dishes, so we went with his suggestion.

Even just popping in for a drink, it's still a cool and enjoyable experience. Regardless on what day you visit, it's alway pretty lively. We stopped by on a Thursday morning just right after the farmers market next door. Instead of a meal, a drink was what we came for. I asked the host if we needed to check in for a table as we were just having a drink. Instead you could order at the bar area and grab one of the seats at the fire pits on the patio back garden. It was still nice and relaxing. The place is quite calming and chill. Amazing meals if you get a chance to try it out. Inside has a cool Palm Spring or Palm Beach vibe. However you want to see it. Outside along the side has a large communal table, tables in the back and seating along the fire pits and well as a little sunken seating area. There's a wall along the fence with a fresh veggies and herbs growing. Not sure if they get utilized in the dishes. Since we just wanted something cold, the ice coffee and one of the hibiscus ice tea was ordered. Both tasty and refreshing and of course made to order. The girls at the bar/cafe were all very sweet and friendly. Everyone pretty much are whenever we visit. The place is great and the food and drinks are always good. It's also pet friendly which is nice. Even just for a drink, it's a nice place to stop by.

Swung by to grab a cup of coffee and pastry, which I didn't know they served. It was close to closing time, not sure if the staff were annoyed or that's just their natural state. Despite all that, it was a delicious flat white and an early grey scone . Very nice modern and home interiors.

Ambiance: Love the inside dining area, home feeling decor! The outside desert style patio is decorated nice. Service: Our server Ricky was on point for our birthday party. He was attentive and checked in us frequently. Food: I ordered the Rise & Shine two eggs, potatoes & toast. Everything was cooked to perfection! I found my new brunch spot!

A sleek restaurant with modern-classic interior design. That has soft classic rock playing in the background. They have a lounge area for those wanting to sit and sip away from their restaurant area. The staff is nice and fast with their services. I ordered the Cinnamon bun latte which was rich, smooth and creamy and not too sweet.

I loved this place so much for all their brunch options and cost. Tried the Brioche French toast, Chilaquiles, and their Pistachio Rose Cold Brew. My friend and I were blown away by all of it. Great service, awesome ambiance. I've been meaning to go back for a while now! Soon.

What more can you ask for while in California. Beautiful weather, mimosas and bloody marries with tuna tartar and a poached egg. Delicious and relaxing on a gorgeous Wednesday morning.

This cute restaurant is situated in a great neighborhood of Long Beach. Walkable from Belmont Park, the Shore areas. They have lots of paid parking in the lot next to them. There is indoor seating ... so cute! They also have a great outdoor patio area & welcome your dogs in this area which is great if you are out & about on a walk. The service was great, friendly and steady. Oh my goodness the FOOD yum! We took my 80+ year old in laws here for breakfast and they loved it!!!!!! We had the breakfast burger ... so good, chilaquiles ( husband said it was good but was jealous of burger) two eggs potatoes & toast (fathers in law loved it) & the quiche (mother in law loved!). Coffees: regular old coffee ( pour over ) French press - yum , Mexican chocolate coffee? It was good - jealous I didn't order that :) . New go to breakfast/ brunch spot with or without or dog ( or in laws :) )

Third times a charm. Officially adding this place into rotation. Like the first visit, the chilaquiles were delicious and this time I made sure to capture them so you can see for yourself. Staff was pleasant, as always. Location continues to be super chic. Hardest part is the parking, which they don't have control of (understandingly).

Fantastic brunch spot! Cute remodel of a home into a restaurant. Environs are cozy and welcoming either comfy chairs and outdoor fire pits. The food was just phenomenal! The mushroom polenta with short ribs was delicious as was the scrambled eggs and potatoes! Not pictured were our drinks which we sucked down lickety split they were so good. I had the matcha English breakfast with orange zest and my husband had Mexican mocha. Our server was fun, friendly and gave great suggestions!

LOVE this place. Excellent food and drink options for brunch. They have a rotating menu. I very much enjoyed the duck paté savory dish most recently and we got several share plates. I also enjoy the spritzes every time. Quick service. Cute indoor and outdoor seating, but can get quite loud. There's also few self seating options that function like a cafe in the middle of a restaurant. Gets VERY busy, so anticipate making a reservation or waiting in line on the weekend. Only the cafe is open for the first hour.

Went here a few days ago for lunch and this place never misses. Every dish I've had has been great. This time I tried their seasonal soup, which was a duck and white bean soup. It was done to perfection. Not too salty, which is hard to find at a restaurant. With just the right portion of duck to vegetables. Came with delicious sourdough from Hey Brother (local bakery). I definitely enjoyed a great meal in a serene setting with fantastic service. Oh, and the Yuzu Arnold Palmer was awesome!!

Ask the Community - Alder & Sage

    Is there a parking lot?

Yes, there is a large paid parking lot right next to the restaurant. Please be prepared to pay via a QR code. There is also street parking along 4th street and the immediate neighborhood.

    Do they use ceremonial matcha?

Do they serve alcohol or are they coffee focused only?

Alder & sage offers beer, wine, champagne as well as mocktails besides the coffee menu

Is it a good study spot?

It's a restaurant, not a coffee house so it's not a location I would choose to study, but maybe in the afternoon when it's not busy and they don't need to turn tables it would be ok for study for a short time.

Definitely worth it! The vibes are unmatched. It's a unique blend of "top notch cocktail crafting" and "beer and a hot pretzel after work." You can dress up, you can dress down, it's very 'just be yourself' which I love. I've literally had caviar AND hot dogs there in the same night at an event. They know how to blend high/low. Incredible knowledge and ingredients but not snooty patootie. Super inclusive and fun, with cool popups and events happening all the time. It's a full bar so you can get any cocktail you would normally order if you're keeping it simple, or beer, wine, boilermakers, etc. There's a span of offerings and price points, so something for everyone. (Also really good N/A cocktails!) The menu is super inventive and creative! And the cocktail menu changes out every so often so there are new things to try. This area is vintage vibes and Baby Gee speaks it fluently. Really cool decor, curated by the owners who design everything from the playlist to the cocktails to the invention of never-before-seen flavors and shapes of jello shots. I was excited to see on the menu that they were serving Kinobi gin from Kyoto. I discovered this gin on a trip to Kyoto have since bought it regularly. To my surprise, when I saw the bartenders making the drinks they were using Gray Whale. Gray Whale is fine, but it's not in the same league at Kinobi. I realize Kinobi can be hard to find at times but If there's a substitution like that, the server should say something when you order the drink or if it's a recipe change, the menu should be updated. Speaking of service, that's what really brought me to write this re view. Before we even ordered we were told that we would only have 90 minutes. That honestly killed the vibe and made us feel rushed. Like the OpenTable confirmation even said we'd have two hours. And for tge rest of our time there our server pretty much ignored us. They forgot some of the food we ordered and shoved the check in our face when they wanted us to leave. I'm guessing they were stretched too thin? I think they need to hire another person to be a server or maybe get an extra bartender and have them wait on the people at the bar. At a bar like this service is everything. Being a Japanese themed bar you'd think they would try to copy the level of service you'd have in Japan. I just moved to the neighborhood and probably won't return after our experience.

Please keep it that way, gas is $5.97/gallon and my wallet is already in therapy.) I handed the valet a $5 tip before I even stepped out of my car, just so I could glide into the lobby feeling like a full‑blown princess making her grand entrance. Before you leave, you simply pay the valet in cash or card and they'll have your car right there before you can even blink. AMBIANCE Walk in and boom! Attentive, sharp memory, and smooth service all the way through. Zero notes. FOOD The menu is small, so if you show up ravenous, pace yourself or plan to Uber home after a cocktail‑heavy evening. I'm allergic to cheese, so I had to double‑check ingredients, but the Mushroom Flatbread was outstanding, flavor was superb and the best part was they did not skimp on the mushrooms! A+ for that. I also tried the Prosciutto di Parma with melon, which is a strange combo for a California girl... but hey, I never said I wasn't a weirdo. Drinks are not my thing since I enjoy company without alcohol's help, so I can't help you with that. DATE‑WORTHY OR NOT? Absolutely. Alter Ego gets a double thumbs‑up from me and a strong recommendation for your next Silver Singles date. And this one time I was there alone with another, no other patrons just staff members walking around from time to time. We stole the moment to dance under the Long Beach sky, just the two of us as a famous Christina Perrio song gently wafted in the night breeze. At another separate time, I was at the Los Angeles County Fair with another. We rode the ferris wheel at such a time where our gondola stopped at the top just as the sun set. The moment was nothing but beautiful and life affirming because the sinking of the sun's light was like a real life video of nature happening in front of us, unburdened by static or data stall. We witnessed nature resting, and I feel, that it was a kin to a beauty falling into a gentle sleep. These two instances have a common factor: momentary bliss arrived to bless an experience because the environment supported discovery of unplanned joy. That is what I associate with the Wicked Wolf, and this time the joy arrived eventually because when my Mom and I arrived to their high tea on Mother's Day the experienced seem like it would land nowhere good. Truth be told, my mom and I arrived 15 minutes early and there was no host in the stand and the place was empty except for a foursome. The energy felt lacked luster. One or two minutes after, the bartender informed us that we were early and the host would come soon. We sat in an available sofa for two, a loveseat persay. This gave us an opportunity to admire the decor that transported us to a storybook forest where good fairies reside, not like swamp creatures and trolls with malevolent fangs and dragon green eyes. I especially loved the large roses in the ceiling. To set the stage, the black ceiling had vines hanging from it, and the few roses were pops of crimson red displayed above. These were wonderful accents to the central mural of the joint that invited the viewer within deeper into the fairy forest where a light shone on an unseen meadow. The place had the decorations and general environment to be a lavender fairy's lounge, but, it did not fully work as a team room. For instance, my mom and I were sat in another lover's couch. Initially, I did not want to sit here because we were given circular tray sets. So imagine being told to sit in a couch, and each of us would get a tv tray. So I was left to wonder if we were going to be served tea in Belle's living room or if were going to watch a flick as we ate pollo loco bowl? But then as I settled into the tranquility of the moment, saw more people come and find their seat or couch, and as the serviced picked-up I realized that this was high tea in a place that had taken disjointed beauty and tackied it together for a patched tea experience that worked well. It was like the experienced was blessed and allowed by the same spirit that brought forth Raggedy Ann. For instance, the pictures show these pretty violet petaled tea cups and matching plates. This pairing was dainty and perfect for a tea party happening under pink veils. But then the sugar cubes came in a hedgehog shaped holder which was just as precious as seeing a piglet in a carriage built for one. Then the cream carrier was in the shape of a milk carton. I wondered where the missing child portrait was? The pastry plate was in the shape of a tropical flower like the ones scattered all over Hawaii. It belonged in a beautiful lei. Each of these elements was cute in its own delicate and whimsical way but together they made an eclectic hodgepodge, not a coherent tea set. And in this asymmetry laid the glitter of their error. The host also brought these clip on dainty hats that were perfect touches for make believe tea party. He carried them around in their original packing, including the box they came in. Not exactly the tailor of the queen, offering hats to the villagers as a gift from her to them, but still the effort magnified the moment. The tea food was the worst stumble that Red took as she was being chased by the Wicked Wolf. To begin with the end analysis, the tea offerings in general were standard, and not bites fit for a princess and her wedding court. For instance, the cream cheese and cucumber sandwich was just that---- a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich. I detected no effort to make it more than that. The blueberry scone was solid, nothing to skip through a meadow about. But once you added the jam of the table to the scone it was much easier to enjoy. I also had a madeline that was fluffy in the center but could have been purchased maybe at Costco. I had a Macaron and same thing, delicious but I have had something similar before and I suspected that it did not come from a place afloat with Parisian affairs. The best part of the tiers was this puff like thing that had like a Concha texture and design at the top. It was a sweet filled bite that was fit for a man made of muffin.

What I really appreciate is that sometimes it's even kid-friendly, which makes it a great option if you're not just going out solo or with friends. I've been coming around since back when it was Iguana Kelly's, and it's been cool to see how the place has evolved while still keeping that local, neighborhood feel. The location is super easy to find, right next to a donut shop and a mechanic, and across the street you've got a 7-Eleven, Subway, and a few other small spots. Plus, Tommy's Burgers and an Arco are right nearby, so everything you might need is within reach. I tried both the cucumber mixed drink and the mango mixed drink, both were really good, but I personally preferred the cucumber one. It's less sweet and way more refreshing, especially if you're not into overly sugary drinks. We also had a BBQ chicken pizza that they cook in a fire oven (I think it's called a wood-fired pizza), and it was really good, definitely worth trying if you go. Service was good During the outdoor event, they had things set up really well, including a sign that read "21 and over beyond this point only," which helped keep things organized. They also had jumpers outside for the little ones to enjoy, along with tables and chairs so everyone could hang out comfortably. Parking can be a bit tight in their lot, but there's always street parking if you take a minute to read the signs. Overall, it's a great hangout spot with a welcoming atmosphere and something happening more often than not. Definitely worth checking out.

The vibe was perfect...great energy with plenty of room to dance. The cocktails were excellent, and the bartenders, Jose and Jocelyn, were incredibly attentive and helped make the night even better. Honestly, every staff member we interacted with, from the promoter to the security guard, was fantastic and contributed to such a fun welcoming atmosphere. The decor was such a fun surprise...tons of palm trees and inflatables made it feel like you were in a tropical getaway rather than just a pizza restaurant. They also had a photo booth, which added another fun touch to the night. We took a ton of pictures in it. We really appreciated the gender-neutral bathrooms and the overall safe, inclusive environment that made our whole group feel comfortable drinking, dancing, and celebrating. Parking can be rough, but as a Long Beach native I already knew that, so we chose to Uber.. We'll absolutely be making the trip back from North Orange County to visit again!

The staff are friendly but definitely no-nonsense; which highlights how it's a bar that has food rather than a restaurant-type establishment. Overall I'd say a 7.5/10 - I don't mind going because of the food and drinks but the vibe makes me hesitate. It's never the first or only stop of the night but it is worth going by just to feel it out and eat.

We arrived and there were a few parties leaving, we walked to the bar area and the two servers were occupied with other guests, so we patiently waited. Finally one of them approached us and shared the menu, another gentleman came to the bar and he was quickly greeted with a hello and our same server immediately shared the menu. The gentleman politely said, these ladies were here first please take their order first, which the server did but was not so happy about. To our surprise the server still prepared his drinks first. The gentleman very surprised apologized since he knew we were there before him. With our drinks in hand we found a table with some empty seats. The table side where we sat had a sprite glass bottle and a glass that hadn't been picked up since the last party left. We moved it a side to set our drinks and finally enjoy our conversation. A different server came to the table and asked the gentleman next to us to get his empty glass and she completely ignored our side. She did another round and I finally asked her to pick up the bottle that was left by another party before us. I asked her for the menu again, she brought it but she did say that I had go back up to the bar to order any additional drinks. We decided to not order a second round and head up to the terrace.

He was kind, polite, and carried himself with such warmth -- and yes, those curls were beautiful. He set the tone for the entire experience. Demetrius seated us, and our server Joe took great care of us. For starters, we ordered the wedge salad and the meatballs. Both were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. For our entrées, we had the grilled salmon with bok choy and mashed potatoes, and the steak sandwich with French fries. Everything was delicious, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. The ambience was wonderful. They have a full bar, and you can watch the chefs prepare dishes right from your table, which adds to the experience. I also appreciated seeing the general manager actively running food and engaging with guests -- leadership like that shows. Another thing that stood out was how clean and organized the restaurant stayed. The moment a table was vacated, it was cleared and reset within minutes. Everything looked spotless. There's so much on the menu that I want to come back and try. I highly recommend this place. And last but definitely not least -- thank you, Demetrius, for noticing my parking time had expired and getting me that extra 15 minutes. You saved me a ticket. You're a true gem. I'll be back to Saint & Second very soon.

The Bake Mac & Cheese is a must-order--the crunchy topping is easily the best part and gives it such a great texture. We also tried the Grilled Provoleta. It's a seared provolone with portobello mushrooms and pickled peppers; it doesn't have a typical "cheese pull," but the flavors are incredible and it feels surprisingly light for a cheese dish. The 1st-floor outdoor patio is super comfortable and dog-friendly, making it the perfect spot to relax. Highly recommend if you're in Long Beach with your pup!
