Stopped by this evening to have dinner with my wife. Sat at the bar. We love the remodel and updates that the restaurant has gone through. Very relaxing environment. Our bartender Gilbert was awesome. Super friendly and took care of us once we sat down. He also made a special margarita for my wife and she loved it. We ordered the mixed fajitas to share. They were great except for I wish there was some more meat. Seemed like we had way more Veges then meat. I do like how they come with four tortillas. Most places have 3 or sometimes 2. Had a meal with friends at the SuperMex in Belmont Shore last night. I have been a SuperMex customer for over 40 years now (ouch!) - starting off with the one in Surfside, but also eating at the downtown location fairly frequently. So I really do KNOW how good SuperMex can be. I hadn't had a real meal all day, so I ordered the three item combo. The shredded beef taco was perfect - it is one of the best tacos around in my opinion, and always has been. The chile relleno was pretty good, but not as spicy as I prefer them to be (and usually are). The enchilada, however, was almost nothing. I don't know if it was late and they right out of ingredients, if the cook was pissed off at the waitress, or if something just slipped by, but it wasn't rolled correctly and was almost empty. I was disappointed, and while I know that it is hard to maintain quality decade after decade, this is not what I expect from a place with so much great history. read more

The other day I felt like Mexican food and so I walked into this restaurant for the first time..the food was great but what made it next level was the friendly and attentive service our bartender Michel provided! I don't think I've ever left a negative rating before but I'll be as fair as I can. My order was lost and consequently it was more than a half hour before it arrived, or at least 3/4 of it. Ten minutes later the last item showed up but by then I had already come to the conclusion this was not the culinary experience I was hoping for. Problems with lost tickets are understandable but the food didn't make up for it unfortunately. My server spoke with the manager who took 15% off which I appreciate. read more

Totally open layout the entire front door opens up to the sidewalk. 1st time I dined in usually ordered through door dash. The service was A one my server was extremely helpful and on the ball . I ordered combo #22 which included two crunchy tacos, healthy serving of both rice and beans. The meal was piping hot, beans were soft and delicious, rice was fluffy and seasoned well. Love the shredded white chicken meat it was succulent and well proportioned meaning you could actually see your meat. Taco shells was crunchy just like I love them. Interesting chips where a whole tortilla you had to break it apart which was fun. Love the zesty taste of the salsa it was spicy but not hot to taste. The restaurant was very clean they even had scheduled cleaning whereby the person who was appointed to clean that hour had to place their signature on the posted schedule on the door. There was a bonus back patio dinning and a nice layout for sidewalk seating in the front. In the center was a beautiful full bar , and just next door a separate section for take out orders. It's safe to say I will opt out of Door Dash and dine in to this restaurant. read more

I was walking and saw this restaurant My family and I thought it would be a good place to stop to get a couple drinks And something to eat. We notice it wasn't busy. There was only 3 tables that were busy so we all agreed to eat there. What a mistake! We had this server called Paulina. We got at the restaurant at 6:10pm We ordered the easiest thing in the menu. 2 Quesadillas Wings and chilaquiles. We had to wait 15 min for our drinks which were wrong btw. The server wasn't never around. We finished the drinks and we tried to call the server for more drinks and she just ignored us. 30 min passed and we still haven't got our food. When we call the server the just bring us the check to pay for the drinks she complains about it and says the food is in the back she just needs to go and bring it. When she does that she forgets the chilaquiles. At this point i'm already over it. She keeps saying they are on the way and she will bring them and I wait. Everyone finishes their food and I never got the chilaquiles. I just tell them I don't want them no more and to take it off from my check. HORRIBLE SERVICE The food was even COLD! I feel that I need to write a review based on the burrito I had here it's was that good !! I want to start by saying that all the staff here were very kind !! The waitress that helped us that was named Araceli was great she was very attentive kind and provided great and fast customer service!!! I had their Super Mex carne asada burrito it was great the meat was cooked perfect with such a good flavor to it and the red sauce on top was also good!! It also comes with rice cheese lettuce and beans the size of the burrito is good for the price It was so much that I had some to take home !! Trust me that doesn't happen to often lol I usually eat everything on my plate !! Great location as well its small but very clean and has an open view to the nice are it is in !! Used to come more often but this was the first time I've came to this location in about a year because we had a similar experience the last time we came. Food was very unappetizing and not good. I ordered the Carnitas burrito and practically the entire burrito was one big chunk of very hard carnitas stuck together. Alongside this the beans were very bad and distasteful. Everyone in the party was complaining about the how bad it was. To finish it off it took about 30 minutes to get the check, never got a refill or checked in on so it was horrible service and even worse food. Looking at the other reviews it's obvious super Mex and especially this location has gone downhill. Should be out of business in no time if nothing is changed. read more

It was such a beautiful day and wanted to have a nice chicken salad with a Margarita. There were 3 salsa on the menu and I don't think we were served any of them. We ordered the Super Mex that was supposed to have mixed greens however it seemed like we only got iceberg and some of the ends of the romaine. The Margaritas were so lite that we ordered a Corona. My brother and I tried this place cause it's close by. We had a late lunch on a weekday, our server Jose was super nice and friendly, he gave great recommendations. We both opted for the 2 taco and 1 enchilada entree. We got al pastor for the tacos and I got the carnitas filling while he got the chicken filling for his enchilada. They give you unlimited chips and salsa but our food took forever to come out. There were no more than 3 other tables, it was fairly empty. The food itself was just ok, they supplemented the dish with a generous helping of rice and beans with cheese on top. The meat was good but the other dish was ok. What can I say, I have be coming to Super mex at this location for over 25 years. The quality and service has gone down hill rapidly over the last few years. We mostly get food to go. Recently Iordered Albondigas Soup, I was shorted on the amount. Many time the order has been wrong. The service and attitude of the staff is horrible. The last straw was today. Hardly no customers, just ordered a Taco ,with rice and beans,and a large Salsa. They said 15 to 20 mins. I see an order come out from the other kitchen and sit on the counter for 5 mins, all while the staff just talks. Finally the look and bring it out. I get home , the beans look old, next, I open the salsa and it looks thick like paste, the color is brown, not red. I call and ask if they changed their recipe, they said it was the tomatoes Never, in over 25 years had the salsa looked like this, it tasted awful, I poured it down the drain. I placed a catering order with a woman yesterday 12/20/22. She was extremely nice. She stated she asked the manager if it was okay to take the order since it was for 12/21/22. She took the order and charged the card. I went in today 12/21/22 to pick the order up, the waiter was extremely nice as well, but said there is no order maybe it's the wrong location. No problem. I checked the phone number and the address. I was at the right location. I spoke with him again. He went to the back again to check, and turns out, the woman didn't put the order on the line. No problem. The kind waiter said it would take 20 mins and they can validate my parking and give us a free drink. Great. We parked in the back, came back in, gave them our parking spot number. We sat at the bar, the bartender was also very nice! I told him he said the drinks were on the house, he checked with the manager , the manager looked through the kitchen window, then the bartender came back and said the manager said no. Not once did the manager come speak with us. A simple "sorry my employee charged you $206 but you have to wait 20-25 mins to receive your food" would have sufficed. Also something for free would have been nice. I paid $31 for 2 drinks after tip. It was very inconsiderate of the manager to out the employees in that awkward position multiple times really. 1. No catering order and 2. To share that we can't get the complimentary drinks. The catering order was for a small portion of the surgical department at the VA hospital and we hoped to order more in the future , but the manager didn't handle that properly at all. read more

But when you come here and get the same mediocre quality but those same two tacos cost 20 dollars, there's a fucking problem. Look at other reviews and they'll tell you the same. They'll tell you're paying for the experience and name value, but let's be real that's BS. If the food sucks, YOU suck and are not worth what your ego tells you to charge. read more

Well back in Long Beach after many years. Patty and I are here to visit the kids and grandchildren. We both have always been Super Mex fans since beck when we were dating. More to follow once we have a bite. The faces have changed, but the food we remember is still here. The food hot and flavorful, the beer cold and refreshing......what more do ya want from a 30-45 minute visit in life.
