Somehow their name made me expect a dark cozy romantic bar with wood walls and deep dark booths, a deep eclectic whiskey/bourbon/scotch selection and a hearty bourbon craft cocktail program. Nope. It's like that's what they tried to do but gave up haLfway though and ended up as a mediocre sports bar with an ok dark liquor selection and three specialty whiskey cocktails. Plus, the owner or the manager or someone was behind the bar, talking to his friends. A couple came in to eat and we're sat at one of the tiny tables and when they complained, the drunk obnoxious customers and the manager at the bar started mocking them. They got up and walked out. Kind of a dumb move to scare customers out of your 2/3 empty establishment at 8pm on a first Friday. I felt sorry for the small staff they had there...they looked miserable. Unfortunately the beef brisket was too dry to eat, the asparagus was stringy, the coleslaw was tasteless, the cornbread was unedible, and fortunately Sebastian our waiter agreed to trade the beef brisket in for one of their hamburgers, and charge me accordingly. Don't bother coming if you're there for the Suns game just go inside since it'll be cheaper. When we let the manager know about the horrendous service he rolled his eyes. There is a reason this place only has three stars... first, Stacy, the bartender was awesome, loved her. But, the DB of a manager was rude at the first moment that we walked in. We had just had an awesome dinner at Arrogant Butcher and decided to stop in for a cocktail at the Bourbon Room. They have a pretty extensive list of whiskeys and scotches', but not too special, as they did not have Duncan Taylor or Black Bull, especially the new rare one, partnered with Sir Nick Faldo, 50 year McCallum scotch/whiskey. Anywhoo... we ordered drinks from the lovely Stacy. There was a light sitting right in front of the four of us that was brighter than the sun. My husband unplugged it, with every intention of plugging it back in. The DB manager obviously has anger issues and does not know how to address issues in a diplomatic way. He asked if we unplugged the light, we explained yes, and I said, sorry, it's very bright to only be answered by this DB with, "would you like some sunglasses". Good thing I was the only one that heard his crappy response or he surely would have be met with a crappier response by our party, I chose to wait to share that crappy response. He then proceeded to slink into the back and never came back out. POS. We paid our $80, 4 drink bill and left. We went back to our hotel bar at the Renaissance which was far better. We live in a resort community, we try to support businesses and give positive reviews as you can see from my other reviews, but this could have been handled much better. Was in town for a convention and this place was recommended by one of the city guides by the convention center. We did not eat but we had plenty of drinks here. Service was great! Food was subpar for the price. Ordered filet mignon rare. The steak that came out was well done. my wife ordered a meatloaf that was mushy and disgusting. She tried to bite of my steak. I brought this to the servers attention and my steak which, was cut in half to show that it was medium well, was returned to the kitchen. after waiting another 40 minutes I finally received a properly cooked steak. It seemed like an excessive time to considering the restaurant was dead. I received my bill and it seemed a bit high. There was no itemized bill. I asked the server for an itemized receipt. We were told my wife's meatloaf is going to be comped since it was un edible. However, they charge me for two stick aches since my wife took a bite out of the first one that was not properly prepared to order. Server informed me that the manager doesn't like to comp items. Hence, the reason I didn't get an itemized receipt. Once I called them out on this, he became extremely rude and aggressive in his questioning. Wanted to know why I cut the steak in half. After his rude and aggressive behavior and him lying to me stating that he does not report to anybody, but the owner and refusing to give me his name, I got his information from the bartender and the name of his manager, the regional manager. I called the next day to voice my concerns. The regional manager had the same stupid questions about why the steak was cut in half and bite was taken out of It shouldn't have been returned. Not wants either of these two managers comprehend the fact that I ordered a rare steak and they served me a well-done steak. Neither one of them would step up for their mistakes made in the restaurant. Both chose to question and place blame on the customer. if you visit this place double check your bills. Get an itemized receipt. And don't expect to return subpar or improperly prepared food. read more

Wow. We paid 36 bucks for the BBQ platter which was all fat and luke warm, along with our luke warm sweet potato fries. The service was spotty, all of our food arrived at different intervals, and it took 10 minutes to get a beer. Then 15 minutes later he asks us to move a second time, while we just got our food, I told him no, and there were other places someone could sit and he got upset because we wouldn't move. I met some friends here for dinner before the G and R concert. The food was great! I had the shrimp and grits. Delicious! The grits were so creamy. The next time I go back I will order this again. I ordered jambalaya to go for my husband. He lived in Louisiana and loves Cajun food. He really enjoyed the jambalaya and will go back for more. He can't stop talking about it. Our friends each got a different salad. They were all a good size, very fresh and everyone enjoyed them. The service was attentive and very friendly. Their menu has a nice variety and their wine, beer, cocktail and alcohol selection has something for everyone. The manager talked to us a bit, he's from New Orleans. My sister and I went here before the can brown concert and ordered our food and drinks right as our waitress came over, so that way we would waste no time and would be able to walk to the venue before it started. We did see our waitress all but twice in 45 minutes it took 55 minutes for our food to come out, and quite honestly it was overpriced for the service we got. First time visiting PBR, bartender Ben was super knowledgeable and attentive. Food was outstanding, shrimp and grits, pork chop, crab cake and walleye were all prepared perfect. This was in two visits and was not disappointed. Bourbon selection is good with very reasonable prices. Staff working the bar could be a little more efficient (other than Ben) but overall experience was very positive. Definitely worth the trip. read more

The bourbon selection was mediocre at best.. not that they didn't cover the bases, but if you're going to bill yourself as "the Phoenix Bourbon Room", I think that you should cater towards people who enjoy Bourbon. Just me, perhaps.. I had the smokewagon uncut unfiltered.. ordered it neat, no problems there.. dinner.. my son and I ordered the new York strips.. theyre wet aged, per description on the menu.. not sure if it's all wet aged beef or their particular recipe, but 1. tender is not a descriptor that should be used at all when speaking of this steak. and 2. The steak was so salty that I had to over hydrate while eating it. I believe that I downed half a pitcher.. I had the grilled asparagus and braised collard green as sides.. dunno if it was the salt left on my pallette from the steak, but both of these dishes hit me as extremely over salted as well.. I have had aged beef before, but I think that this is the first wet aged steak for me.. so I'm not sure if that is the case.. nothing tasted bad, per se.. just VERY salty.. id probably give them another shot, but will steer clear of the steak. I've had far better steaks for a lot less money. read more

We had a 6:00 reservation for dinner prior to the Adam Sandler show downtown. The entire experience was a disaster. Our food took 45 minutes to get from the kitchen. When I asked about it he said they would get the steaks going right away (45 minutes later). One of the four steaks was cold. I ordered a pour of Weller 12 neat. They brought it on ice. I reminded the server that it was neat. She took it back to the bar and I watched them remove the ice and pour my now diluted Weller 12 into a new glass and bring it back to the table ($30 / pour). When the food came they were unable to fulfill 3 of the 6 sides that the table ordered and then had to take a new order back to the kitchen. The manager came to apologize and said it was their fault...well, I would think so. If this were a $30 meal it wouldn't be such a big deal but to go spend $200/couple is crazy. They did nothing to accommodate all of the issues we had. We would never go back. Take your money elsewhere. read more

What I expected from a "bourbon room" and what I experienced at the Phoenix Bourbon Room were very different. My wife and I were intrigued by the menu and even though the wine list was small - she doesn't drink whiskey - we decided to try it over other places in CityScape. Some things were as expected - a large bar with a lot of bottles of whiskey; tables and booths throughout the restaurant. Others were not - TVs *everywhere*. It feels like a sports bar because... well... that's what it is. The NBA playoffs were on every TV and the table next to us was packed with guys doing what you do at a sports bar - drinking and making a LOT of noise. Definitely not what we expected. Our waiter was terrible. He may have been new, so I can excuse his lack of knowledge of the menu, and he may not drink so I can't really fault him for not being able to answer questions about the wines or whiskies. He appeared promptly after we were seated, but that was the last thing he did promptly. When he could not answer questions about the wine we had to ask him to consult with the bartender. After we ordered, drinks were slow to arrive. Out appetizer was slow to arrive. We asked for extra chips to go with the spinach dip appetizer. The extra chips arrived with our dinners. Our drink glasses sat empty for quite a while before the waiter asked us if we wanted more, and even though my wife's water glass was empty when our dinners arrived it was still several minutes before her water glass - and hers only, not mine - was filled. I don't know what the waiter's problem was, but there is no excuse for poor service. Not even in a new restaurant, and not even from an inexperienced waiter. The food was excellent. My only criticism would be that my cioppino did not come with bread or anything to soak up the broth. My wife's pork chop was likewise excellent. The whiskey list is extensive, and the prices seemed fair. I am leaving just two stars because of the poor service and because this bar needs to figure out what it wants to be - a whiskey joint or a sports bar. For an establishment with Bourbon in its name a bigger variety of bourbon drinks on the menu should be offered. The one drink I did ask for they told me it wasn't even available. The Fried green tomatoes were not hot. The marrow was meh. There was no seasoning on the food and no salt or pepper on the table. My suggestion is to walk 40 more steps down to the Blue Hound and be better served with better drinks and better food. read more
