Staying in Cave Creek for a few days and searched bbq place on yelp. Found Phat Turtle and decided to give it a try since it had Excellent reviews. We weren't disappointed. We shared the sampler platter and it had all of the meats and fried onions, so Good. The staff was Super Friendly and chatted with the owner and his wife for a bit. What a waste of time. They spent all the time preparing take out orders and totally ignored the orders from the patrons in the restaurant. We waited and waited and after an hour we finally said let's just pay for our beer and go. I would have thought the manager would comp us for something but he was clueless. Mediocre at best. Chicken was cubed and dried out. The smoke flavoring was more like burning newspaper, like they sniffed out the fire and had incomplete combustion. Not appealing at all. Onion rings were a colossal let down. Typical over breaded frozen variety that makes burger king's look good. Fried okra was OK, at least a decent portion. Would have been nice if offered ranch dressing as advertised. Service was so so. Hostess apologized for having the server cleaning up the bar which was not even open due to no license. We wondered why she was helping as she was standing around with FUA. Due to poor service, food was only lukewarm. read more

My family enjoys the food, and it is a great treat when they visit. I find the sauces a bit too smokey and the ribs firm for my taste. The pulled pork and chicken are better. Service can be slow, but not terrible. The staff are casual and friendly when dining in and make sure to keep drinks full etc. Not my first choice personally for bbq, but my husband would eat it anytime. read more

I could spend three paragraphs talking about what's good on this menu but I'll just get to the point. Everything on this menu is good. The atmosphere is incredible, the wait staff friendly, the decor and music are spot on, The smell of insanely awesome BBQ being prepared immediately puts you at home. The Fixin's are exceptional. As always looking for new places to eat delicious food, and my husband being from Texas, we Love BBQ. Customer service is pretty ok, which earned them the third star, however, the food was barely decent. Usually appetizers are shareable portions; their "sausage infused mac&cheese" was a small bowl size of watery cheese sauce, eight small pieces of sausage on top and didn't even have salt or pepper. My husband had a burger; the patty was small and without taste. I had the "burned tips sandwich" which was ok, meat was juicy, but I had to add their spicy sauce for more flavor. Sweet potato fries were well made but again, lacked salt. A redeeming aspect is that the place has a few good Kansas beer on draft. read more

This Kansas City Barbecue is Awesome! Went on a recommendation from my son, and they didn't disappoint. The smoky sweet sauces are hand made on site and are delicious. The meat was succulent and fork tender. I ordered the Burnt Ends, very KC, and not available at most BBQ restaurants in this area. They use a special method to prepare them, and they were fantastic! The service was on point, friendly, helpful, and fun! We also had the sliced brisket, hand made onion rings (10 stars) and brisket baked beans (10++ stars). ALSO, they have 5, count 'em, FIVE Boulevard beers on tap. Unheard of! I got the Tank 7 and it arrived in the correct Tank 7 beer goblet!, The portions here are very generous, and if you miss KC, you'll feel like you're home! The ambiance of the restaurant was awesome, very western style and staff was very friendly, but the bbq was not very good. The brisket was over cooked and kinda spongy, the ribs were over cooked and dry, the so called bbq beans with brisket in them, had no brisket in them, they were more like canned baked beans with some bbq sauce added to them. I use to be a serial yelper but it was getting out of control so I deleted the account and started a new one. I want to review this place though since it's talked about on Nextdoor. We got lots of food. We got two orders of burnt ends. They tasted good. There was a large amount of fat in both. Pulled pork was good. Personally I liked it better than the burnt ends. I was a little surprised the server didn't have any recommendations or positive opinions about the food. The server didn't really talk to us or know about the food. They seemed nice though so maybe they just had a bad day. The food was good. I do think it's a bit pricy for the options. They could offer a little more deluxe sides to be included since it's at least $17 for the cheapest meat plate (where you get meat and two sides) and probably less than $1 to make the sides they offer. I've also never been to a bbq place until now that doesn't give complementary cornbread. It's been a while though so maybe places don't do that anymore. I applaud the effort at the restaurant and it does seem like the owner really tries. Maybe they can do a food tasting with staff and find ways to do some unique side options without charging extra for them since it's already on the pricy side for the portions. They have the beans with meat but baked beans are so cheap. We will likely be back since we live close. I'll update my review after we go back. read more

Went to the new Daisy Mountain location for the 1st time and truly thought the prices were a bit steep in comparison to other places. The lunch "special"was $16.95 which included a side. I ordered a sandwich which also included a side (onion rings by choice) and my partner ordered a bowl of chili. The sandwich was just OK and the side of onion rings consisted of 4, yes, 4 small rings. The menu listed them for $5.75 on the menu!!! I was told that a true side (not with lunch) consisted of 2 more. WHOA!!! The food was mediocre at best and I'd be hesitant to order any other side due to the lack of a respectable quantity for the price. I wish them luck in their new location. Hopefully they'll get a clue about what is expected as a "special" and the quantity of their $5.75 sides. read more

Just moved here and so excited to find a new BBQ place. I have honestly never written a review but I just had to as the food was absolutely AWFUL. We paid $70 for what was supposed to be a LB of pork that was definitely 1/2 if that. The pork was so oily and so unappetizing we threw half away. The Mac N Cheese tasted like a big pile of velvetta. I will say that we ordered a small plate of brisket that was pretty good so if you are thinking about eating here go with the brisket. Went there Friday, March 31, 2023 for the 3rd time. My wife and I always give a restaurant more than 1 or 2 chances. Friday was a disaster! I had their steak sandwich special ($16.95). Not much meat, lots of melted cheese. Just a waste of money. Besides it wasn't hot and the broth dip was so salty, I couldn't use it. My wife had a half rack of ribs. HARDLY any meat and it was warm, almost cold. We waited almost 20 minutes to get the food after ordering. I had a beer and asked for a glass. Waited 10 minutes and our server never came by. I asked another server for the glass and she brought it to me. Well it's 3 and done! read more

I'm giving this a 4 rather than 5. We ate there at lunch for the first time and they were short handed. The manager also served as the cook, greeter, and server. And all things considered, he did a great job. I wanted beef brisket and it wasn't ready so took a burger instead. Quite possibly the worst ever - good flavors, but it was burnt into oblivion. I should have sent it back, but I could tell the guy was overwhelmed. My wife's pork ribs were incredible - she said the best she's eaten in this area. I'll start with the good first. The service was good and staff was friendly. Now for the bad, the food. I ordered the $25 sample plate and found they take the word "SAMPLE" quite literal. There was two thinly sliced pieces of brisket about 2.5" long, two baby ribs, five small pieces of burnt ends about 1"x 1/4" thick. I want to stop here for a moment and talk about the burnt ends. They had the texture, even the meaty portion of ,I don't know, jello...It was like putting a pieces of loose fat in my mouth. Im having a hard time describing the texture but it was unpleasant. I couldn't tell the fat from the meat other than the color. It all had that loose fat, slimmy texture. NOT what I was expecting at all. Six slices of sausage about 1/2" cuts and about a tablespoon of the other meats. Just enough to get one or two bites of each for $25. We ordered the cornbread for $5.75 and received two small cupcake sized muffins with no muffin top to speak of, that were so hard, we couldn't even peel the paper off. My friend ordered a side of Mac & cheese, again, small portion. It wasn't what he was expecting either. The cheese was so runny it was more like soup with shell noodles. Maybe not that thin but close to it. We thought we ordered plenty of food with all those items and $40+ later, walked away still hungry. read more
