Have seen it for years and never tried it use to be closed in the summer. We did the 8 piece fried chicken with an extra slaw. Very nice service was great. Friendly. Ambiance western as would be expected. We will be back to try other menu items. read more

Came in from far far away on an Easter Day to meet up with some family , timing was pretty challenging to find a spot open but we came across the Horny Toad after 2 other attempts. As vegetarians we try to stick with what we know, to much surprise they had options for us and with having 20 minutes until the kitchen closes, they services us with kindness. The place has plenty of outdoor setting on its huge porch looking out into the town. They had live music that was amazing as well. There is a cute country western side bar, always open for happy hour. We decided to dine in to get out of the sun. I totally enjoyed the remarkable comments on the T-shirts and other items for sale. The inside was taken right out of a western movie scene. I server was fantastic. She was kind and helpful. The food portions are huge! Like Texas size. We got the nachos, veggie burger with slaw, and mushroom fajitas. The fajitas were seasoned perfectly. Only wished they came with a side of beans to add a bit of protein. Fried perfectly with absolutely ZERO flavor served with what tasted like instant mashed potatoes and canned brown gravy - service was subpar also as waited 10 minutes with another group for someone to see people at the door. The Horny Toad in Creek Cave was recommended by a local friend for fried chicken and fish (cod) & chips. We ordered the whole fried chicken with mash potatoes. Came with 8 prices of chicken and they were freshly fried and moist. Not season well for my taste but my friends liked it. We also added home made sides of Honey Butter Corn bread and cheesy grits. All were delicious. We thought we were full but after talking to our sever, she strongly suggested their house made Strawberry Shortcake-OMG, the best I have had in a very long time. A must at this place if you come here. Creek Cave is a small and cute town so worth the drive from Scottsdale/Phoenix for a day trip along with a delicious meal. It was like a "sports bar vibe stuffed into a Texas Roadhouse restaurant, but no worries." From the dark inside with sunlight coming through the stained glass windows, I was reminded of roadhouse restaurants from years past ( minus the black-and-white tv's and the smoking indoors). But the vibe matched the food, which was delicious. Big portions with leftover take-home appeal...you knew what you were eating the following day. Even better, because then the food was allowed to marinate inside the fridge for a nominal eating experience! We ordered Nachos, fried zucchini, 1/2 pound brisket, cornbread, taco salad, you the drill. No disappoints here. Our server Satie was nice and kept our beverages full without asking for refills. While everything was served way warmer than lukewarm, the fried zucchini was downright steaming. Seating? We sat inside, while it was also available on the patio. A cool looking bar area as well as other rooms memorbila along the walls to look at. Worth it's weight in gold for a good dining experience! read more

Called ahead and got reservation for 7 of us - they said normally only allow reservations for 8 or more but they made an exception. Arrived on a Sunday at 1 pm and were seated in a corner booth. All wood booth, seating is tight for 7 and would be near impossible for 8. Hard straight up back. Glad i brought coat to sit on although it was a bit cool inside too. Old western style decor inside. A little crowded and noisy but since we were huddled in a tight booth, we had good conversations compared to other places. Seating outside with fair number of people but heaters didn't appear to be on - I would have been cold outside. Mostly picnic table seating outside; sitting next to road although fenced in. Some pups with patrons. Service good overall but fairly slow. Lilly had to go verify the special for the day. My burger came several minutes after other entries arrived - weird. I had the horny toad burger with fries - great fries! Burger had brisket with bacon too - it was fairly good. We also had onion rings as appetizer which were fairly good beer battered style. Others had the Cod and taco's, but the bday girl had liver an onions which she said were very good. Everyone liked the taco's and chips that came with them. The creamed corn was just ok, and coleslaw fairly good. No offer of little dessert for bday girl which was surprising given we told the waitress this and made reservation just for the occasion. I think The Horny Toad is more of a drinking spot, but we tried it for dinner one night after a long day of moving into our new house nearby. The place is super rustic and full of character but man, it was so dark we could barely read the menu! Our waitress was wonderful though, super attentive and friendly, no complaints there. But the food? That's where it fell flat for me. Almost everything is deep-fried, and probably deep-fried too long. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, but the bun was buttered and fried (like, extra crispy), and the coleslaw, which was basically swimming in mayo. Pretty gross. The rest of the table's food was just... meh. Fried and really pricey. Maybe I'll give it another shot for drinks on a date night, but as far as dinner goes, I'm definitely passing. read more

This place must have gone down hill. We drove 50+ miles this past Friday for their fried cod fish. The menu on their website and the menu in the restaurant clearly list cod fish. Upon arriving and asking to take our order, the waiter advised us that they now only have pollack and no longer the cod. Their cornbread is sooo dry! What a waste of 100 miles roundtrip.
