Ok, I mean it's not Texas BBQ by any means, but it's not horrible. The meat was dryer than Texas BBQ, I had to use bbq sauce that I typically wouldn't use. The Mac was good, the beans were alright, the banana pudding was banana pudding. The pickles seem to be homemade and alright. If I didn't have yummy Texas BBQ to compare it to, I'd probably increase my rating. I always want really good, enthusiastic service, but I didn't get it. Well, this was an unexpected surprise. Yelp led me here for dinner last Friday night as I'm always interested in a good bbq restaurant. Naked BBQ is located very close to I-17 on the end cap of a strip center with parking out front. Inside, it's a counter service restaurant with a smallish dining area next to a self serve drink fountain. Two bbq sauces are also available there. A sweet one and a spicy one. I asked for a two meat platter with two sides for $16. I chose sliced brisket and pulled chicken with beans and potato salad. The platter also came with some cornbread and is prepared in front of you as it is selected. Immediately, I noticed the very generous serving sizes of everything on the platter. It was a lot of food and a steal for $16. The brisket was moist cut (with fat) and had a nice bark on it. It was tasty and tender with good flavor. The pulled chicken was also flavorful and tender and with some of the sweet sauce on top delicious. I also tried some of the spicy sauce and found it to be only slightly spicy so I enjoyed it also on the meats. The baked beans had some brisket in them (a plus) and were in a savory broth. I enjoyed them. Finally the potato salad was served cool and while mayo based also had a little bit of mustard and along with the other ingredients was quite good tasting too. With the moist cornbread, I could find no fault with this meal. My only very slight criticism (no stars deducted) is that I thought both bbq sauces while flavorful were a little bit runny. I would have liked more body to them however I am nitpicking. This meal was a 4+ and when I add the price and large serving sizes, I must give a 5 here. I decided to try their brisket (you can either get this sliced or chopped) and jalepeno hot link along with two orders of mac n cheese since a platter already comes with one cornbread. They have a vegetable of the day side but I decided against it since they weren't making one that I liked. This two meat platter is more than enough for me to get full. Never had smoked turkey before so gave their Thanksgiving dinner a try this year. The turkey was one of the best we've ever had and the whole dinner was fantastic. I'd put up the smoked meats here against anywhere else in the valley. Even those 'Lil' places. The Jalapeño hot links are 100 out of 10! All the other meats, 5/5. The sandwiches on the other had are 2/5. Meat on a bun is not a 'sandwich'. To be a sandwich requires condiments and fixins' - maybe an onion ring, slaw, cheese, greens, onions, a combination of meats......anything other than just meat on a bun. The sauce comes on the side. 5 different kinds! Ribs were meaty! They could have been more tender though, like fall off the bone as soon as you bite in. Also the Rib rub was pretty ligjht. So...my buddy is in town, and the original plan was to head down to another BBQ spot in town, BUT, he had his kid with him, plus it was getting around noon and we knew that it would be packed. Comes with a little cornbread muffin, too. Took my tray and sat down. Here is how it was................ Burnt Ends- Fantastic! Great bark, tender little morsels of brisket. So tasty! Best choice they have (sometimes have)! Brisket- Delicious, again! Great smoke ring, moist and tender. Great bark. 2 fat pieces! Mac and Cheese- Tasty! Could have been a tad warmer, but it was still good. Spiral pasta so the cheese sauce really sticks to it. Beans- Mix of 2 different beans from what I could tell. Good sauce, kind of a cross between a "ranch bean" and a "baked bean". Not super sweet, but hearty. Peach Pie- Hell of a dessert! This thing is more peach cobbler (crust on top, not all the way down), but its 100% delicious! It's a steal at only $2.50, too! I would come here just to order a couple of these things to go. I'm extremely disappointed. I ordered Naked Q on DoorDash today, but dropped my food pretty much immediately after I opened it. I called the restaurant three times (the first time I called they answered then hung up immediately, second time I was sent to voicemail, and the third time they finally answered). When I spoke to the manager he handled it in such a horrible and disappointing way. It was truly egregious. He told me he was not willing to remake the food unless I reordered it altogether in DoorDash. I asked him if a customer was there and they dropped their food immediately after ordering it, would they not remake it? And he deflected the question. It seemed like he might've thought I was trying to get extra food without paying - but tbh, the food is pretty mid anyways and definitely not worth it for the service. He told me he just asked the owner if they could remake it, and he said the owner said no. I told him I'm willing to speak to the owner because this is terrible customer service. I let him know I would be writing a bad review on yelp for this, and he said "go ahead". When I asked to speak to the owner he said no, that the owner is not even in the state! I don't know if I actually believe he spoke to the owner, because why would you need to speak to the owner as a manager to help a customer out? Pretty wild. I would avoid going here. We almost missed this place because Naked Q BBQ is almost hidden from the main street. Yesterday's lunch was brisket platters--chopped for hubby and sliced for me. The one meat meal comes with two sides and I chose potato salad (very good) and coleslaw (outstanding). I'm used to being served soggy, overdressed coleslaw so when the large portion of fresh, crispy cabbage appeared I was impressed. Maybe I was just lucky but there were no big hunks of the tough, fibrous core thrown in and I ended up eating most of this first. You collected your own drinks and there was a dispenser for the plastic utensils. The beef was plentiful (I couldn't finish) and you could select your sauces to get the perfect amount. This place is small and we timed things right. The small dining area quickly filled up with workers from nearby businesses. The lady working at the cash register who is likely the owner greeted us, asked if it was our first time and then broke down the entire menu down for us with nothing but super useful information. Brisket smoked 15 hours, best deal if you want to try things and want sides is the two meat platter, 3 kinds of tea, sweet, naked, and watermelon, meat by the pound can be by the half pound, and all meats served naked so you can taste the time and love that's gone into them. There are also various bbq sauces available. The restaurant looks great and the bathroom was clean and nice. I was already semi full from breakfast at the hotel, but I got a half a pound of brisket, bc I love brisket no matter how full I am. The brisket for PERFECT for how I like it. Smoked and tender with a little fat on top to pack some flavor and juiciness into it. Salt and pepper on the top. 5 stars in my opinion. The price makes it even better at a very reasonable $20 per pound. If I lived here, I could see stopping here for a half pound of brisket or a brisket sandwich once a week. It also comes with onions and pickles if you like. There are also specials each day that vary depending on the day, call ahead if you are curious. The two meat plate with two sides and cornbread for $15, another great value. The ribs were my favorite from the plate and were smoky and porky. The sweet tea was super sweet, but great combined with some of the watermelon tea! We stopped on the way up to Sedona from Phoenix and we plan to stop on the way back. If it is closed, we will go to one of the other locations. I walked in with a smile on anticipation of some smoked brisket and I walked out with a smile from my satisfaction from the meal.
