    Side of rice and beans
    Janelle F.

I'm a lover of all things local and today I found the most wonderful place. If I'd of listened to some of the reviews I read or based my stop on what the outside looked like I'd of missed something amazing. One of my pleasures in life is stealing away a little time with my family for some food or fun and sharing that experience with others. Today we stopped in to try Limón Urban Kitchen. I've driven by a handful of times and decided to stop this time. While the parking lot was a bit of a mess and half closed for repaving I was able to find a spot close by. The outside doesn't do it justice since it sits in an unassuming shopping small, but it has a great outdoor patio with misters and TVs. Once inside I was a little unclear if I needed to wait or be seated because no one was at the hostess station. Soon after however a wonderful woman came up, greeted us and promptly took us to our table. She took our drink orders left us a few menus and time to look them over. We ordered chips and salsa (.99 an order, but very clear on the menu) while we decided. I was pleased to see they offer breakfast until noon daily. The menu has some great options, but my eyes quickly went to the vast taco options. 12 to be exact. Did you know here you can even order a 10 taco flight? Yum! The tacos come à la carte so rice and beans or other sides are extra. Great prices though for portion size. I chose three tacos; green chili pork, chili lime shrimp and beef barbacoa with a side of rice and beans. We also ordered the fajitas. There is a full bar and many TVs inside as well. They offer trivia nights as well. It was not busy when we arrived, but quickly noticed a lot of door dash and walk in orders. Everything came out fairly quick and looked beyond fantastic. Let me tell you I love love love shrimp tacos and this was phenomenal. Filled to the brim and seasoned well with a good kick to it. My barbacoa had good flavor as well. The green chili pork was good but I think I'd prefer that one with corn tortillas next time as it got soggy from the juices. That's personal preference though and I'll remember to ask next time. The rice and bean side portions were huge and I didn't come close to finishing them. The pinto beans were seasoned well. The fajitas stole the show for sure. They were so full of meat, not chewy and didn't skimp out like most places around. The veggies were portioned out well too but if you're looking for a place that actually gives you good meat portions this is your spot. My husband raved about them. They also gave 6 tortillas which again was great because typically you're lucky if you get 4 max. They offer happy hour daily from 3-6pm. At the end I asked if the restaurant was locally owned or a chain and I was pleased and surprised to find out the woman waiting on us the entire time was one of the owners. Her husband soon walked by and she introduced him as well. They were both so lovely. We were told his mother is the cook in the back and while she runs the front he and his mom do a lot of the back behind the scenes. You could tell the love that really goes into this place and the flavors full of it as well. They said they are hopeful of a second location soon and we can't wait for it to happen. Hopefully nearby us so we can support more often. Prices were more than fair for portion size. Please show your support by stopping in and help this amazing family crush their dreams. Everything was delicious and well worth the stop. Don't let some of these ridiculous negative reviews stop you.

Got their signature Fajitas the rice was dry and crusty, and the salsa was the worst I've ever had in any restaurant the service was average overall

Limon Urban Kitchen is really a Mexican Sports Bar Restaurant located in north Phoenix. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. They gave us complimentary warm chips and tasty salsa. We added on the house made roasted white poblano queso. The queso for my taste could use more cheese and more poblano. I tried the lettuce fajita wraps. I thought they'd be wrapped up for me but they weren't. Actually all the hot meat and vegetables were piled over the lettuce so the lettuce sort of disintegrated and was next to impossible to use. BUT THE CHICKEN WAS TRULEY GREAT! It might have been the very best fajita chicken that I have ever tasted anywhere. It was developed with amazing flavors and was so tender and delicious. My husband tried the enjitomatada plate (carne asada). I tried a small piece of beef and it also was delicious and tender. I highly recommend to get anything with that same fajita chicken.

    Tasty margarita.

We stopped and sat at the bar. The margarita was really good and nicely balanced. The queso, large portion, lacked flavor, heat, seasoning. Very bland. Chips were fresh. The asada taco was delicious though! It had flavor and lots of toppings. Reasonable prices and friendly service

I loved their delicious tacos and taco salad, as well as their great drinks and friendly service. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with a modern decor that's perfect for a night out with friends or a date. Prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous. Limon Urban Kitchen is a great choice for anyone looking for a fun night out with great food and drinks. Definitely check it out!

It was our first time there. The food was okay. The vegetables were fresh and the meat was tender. The rice and beans were bland, they needed more seasoning. The portions were average size. When we sat down we were served chips and salsa, like many restaurants do, however when the bill came we were charged for the chips and salsa. The salsa was very good so I had no problem paying for it but feel the presentation was deceiving.

The place has changed a bit over the years. The new menu is good. Enchiladas were a bit different but nice. Plated with 4 small cheese enchiladas, a small side of chicken, and some potatoes. Nice presentation. A little on the spicy side but great! The food came out fast and the restaurant was very clean. The music was a little loud and clubby though. The chicken fajitas came with alot of chicken too. Portions were great for the price.

    Best toast EVERRRRR!!

The meat is not good here. I had barbacoa and asada tacos and it was very mushy. Customer service was great but the food is underwhelming.

The location is weird, like in a neighborhood. Just keep driving--you'll see it, but the first time I went there I thought I was lost and finally spotted it! They've remodeled and expanded the eating area which is great because before it was so busy and you felt crammed, but don't go expecting some high end taco shop. While the line can be long, don't let it fool you because the service is quick and efficient! The restaurant is also adding a drive thru line, so that should help disperse the line inside of the restaurant. Even with how busy the restaurants can get, I've never had an issue finding a place to sit and eat. They make each item to order in front of you, you get to choose which toppings you want to add. I always order my items "con todo" with onion, cilantro, guacamole/crema, and salsa. This trip I ordered 3 especiales: caramelo (steak), gringa (pork), and gabacho (chicken). Unfortunately, they ran out of chicken, so I subbed for an extra gringa, my favorite of the 3. I also got an order of chips and queso, but be careful because the queso is addicting! They also have a help yourself salsa bar, but the salsas tend to be watery and not very flavorful. The orange one is my favorite, adds a good kick to the food. The pricing is reasonable, especially for the quality of food you get, even when I tend to over order. Overall, I will continue coming to Taco Viva any time I'm in the mood for some yummy tacos!

I ordered two carne asada tacos, two el pastor tacos, and one vampiro. I started with the al pastor tacos. They were pretty tasty--the meat was tender (not dry), and the sauce on top had a lot of good flavor. Then I moved on to the carne asada tacos. The very first bite was extremely salty. I managed to get through one and a half before I had to stop; I just couldn't handle the saltiness anymore. I thought it was only the carne asada, but when I tried a bite of the el pastor vampiro, I realized that was just as salty. I didn't even make it halfway through before I had to stop eating altogether. The saltiness was so intense it started making me feel sick. My husband tried my food and completely agreed--it was overly salty. I usually like to give places a second chance, but I don't think I will with this one. Maybe someday, but not anytime soon.

Usually I'm camped outside with a few cocktails and I stagger my order. Just to be clear, my favorite item here is the Carne Asada Sope!!! Service was great as they gave the family recommendations. Greedy kids also split one of my Sope's seeing how I hyped it up... and left crumbs!!! Salsa bar is located in the corner and labeled so you don't go blazin hot unexpectedly with a salsa. For the adults, we decided to go with the Asada Fries for the group to share, the Mulitas with Carne Asada, Steet taco combo with rice & beans, horchata's and of course a Margarita (or 2) It was a bit to hot for the patio our front that evening, and they do have a another one out back. The only downside was that that bathroom was down for the night so we didn't hang out for a round 2.

Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.

First of all, eating anywhere in Tempe, starts with a frustrating time.... Trying to find parking and having to pay to park. I don't understand why restaurants don't have parking for customers. Idk maybe I don't know where to look. Second, it's hot AF in here. I feel sorry for the guys cooking. It's 105 today and the restaurant is so small, it's probably impossible to keep cool during the summer. Finally, the food. It all tastes very fresh! NO SEED OILS is amazing.
