My daughter and I stopped in for dinner and had a lovely time. The food was delicious and there were large portions. We both had enough for two meals each. We ate two courses. The food was hot and flavorful. We had friendly service from the staff. The restaurant is clean and had very nice music playing. It was enjoyable to have a conversation. After having not been to Dao Kitchen since COVID we decided to get dinner there tonight. We were pleased to see that the inside had been remodeled since our last visit and it was much more appealing to the eye. We placed a to go order for a number of dishes including an order of cashew chicken with no brown sauce. We were told it would take 15 to 20 minutes so we sat at the bar and had a couple drinks and they offered a bowl of wonton chips while we waited. The food was ready quicker than 15 or 20 minutes which was a nice surprise. We got home and unfortunately the cashew chicken came with the brown sauce the I asked be left off. I noticed that it wasn't specified on the receipt even though I ordered it. I immediately called the restaurant and they apologized and offered to replace the dish without the brown sauce and since if wasn't far from my house I agreed. I drove to the restaurant to pick it up and came home and while there was no brown sauce now there were no cashews...not what I asked or paid for. Now I'm afraid to order to go at Dao unless I check our food before we leave the restaurant. Visited Dao today for the first time and it was OK. We ordered the sizzling rice soup (no sizzle), orange chicken and general tso. Like I said everything was ok but the service was lacking. The ambiance was chill but the tables are so close to each other that you can hear everyone's conversations. Bathrooms were dirty too. read more

I never expected there to be such a good local Chinese food place this far up north of Phoenix. We came real late but the staff were super friendly and welcoming. The food also came out insanely fast (we were also the only ones there but still) We ordered the orange chicken which was really good, huge in portion the entire plate was full. We also got the Mongolian beef, this was also really good, if anything just a tad salty but i also love salty foods. It wasn't spicy at all really but the flavor was amazing. We got some green beans of course for veggies, perfectly cooked and super tasty. And we also got some shrimp fried rice of course, which was so good. I love me a good fried rice and this was just it. Not too spicy and little too sweet, overall excellent taste . The chicken seems it was cooked too fast and cut very thin probably the reason for being tough and rubbery. Not my # 1 pick of Chinese restaurant food. With some minor changes they can be much better. Don't think they care what we think because we weren't asked if everything was ok. Our group of 9 stopped here before heading back to California. As soon as we arrived we got seated right away. They did take like 5 to 10 minutes to give us menus, but also many of our group was using the restroom so I dont blame them. The menu had a lot of items that looked good and it was hard to decide what to get. Everyone ordered from the lunch special and we were happy we did because as you can see from the pictures it was a great amount of food. The Thai tea was great and strong how I like it. Both soups were amazing that some of us wanted more eventhough it was 108 outside. I got the sweet and sour pork and it had just the right amount of sauce and I loved the rice. Smallish eat in restaurant in a strip mall on Carefree Hwy near the I17. Got there at 6 pm and all 12 tables but one were filled, mostly with seniors. Almost all were gone by 6:30. Brisk take out business. The two of us were seated at a table for 10! The only table left. Fried wontons and sweet and sour sauce were brought to the table. We ordered the vegetable egg rolls as an appetizer. Huge, piping hot and no peanut paste which as someone with a peanut allergy I'm grateful for, to say the least. Had the beef chow fun, sesame chicken and BBQ pork egg fu yung. Waitress commented...that's a lot of food for the two of you. She was right. The portions are gigantic. Could easily feed six people. Beef chow fun was good. Wide rice noodles and beef that had some texture and chew to it. Not tough, but not so tenderized that the texture is mush. Sesame chicken is excellent. Plating is poor though. It's just the sesame chicken. They could have added a sprig of broccoli and julienned carrots just for a better visual and contrast. Egg fu yung. The east coast style. Not sure what the deal is out here in Phoenix but most places make an egg patty and put the ingredients on the top. Pretty awful. Not at Dao. They make it the right way with fluffy egg patties and the ingredients INSIDE the patty. BBQ pork was there...but not enough to my liking. Three huge patties. Sauce isn't your typical "brown" goopy sauce though. It's more like a plum sauce. Different. But good. Overall, definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants in the Phoenix area. Overall cost was $55 with a beer. And a ton of food. Had two more meals from it at home. Downside? I had to ask the server for spoons. How were we supposed to get the food from the serving plates to our plate? Fried rice is very poor. Rice in a tiny bit of soy sauce and some microscopic egg. Disappointing. Add some diced veggies at least and bean sprouts. Lots of containers for the leftovers, of course. Overall, we'll come back. Huge improvement on what most Chinese restaurants in the Valley are. read more

The food here is very authentic. The ingredients are fresh and have a great taste. They make the food the Chinese way. Owners are nice, work hard, cook great and very pleasant. The bathroom is always clean and well kept. We like it so much that we eat there multiple times. The atmosphere is cozy. Kice place for a date or a get together. This location has the 2nd but they sadly had to shutdown other location during covid and staffing issues did have to shutdown the restaurant. Service was promptly and server(s) were very nice and willing to explain the menu should you have any questions. Drinks were at the table were within 5 or so mins and they give a freebie of fresh made chips and sweet and sour to dip in. Food wasn't very long after we ordered, 4 of us, it was nice and hot/fresh. Our drinks were kept full and we were checked in on often if we needed anything even though the restaurant was fairly full and busy. My personal opinion about the teriyaki chicken was that it had a fairly strong taste of peanuts. So should you have allergies be cautious. The wife had the Shrimp and vegetables. The portions was pretty large for a lunch menu so the wife and I each shared to get a biggie variety. I do recommend the lunch specials so long as it's before 3pm. The restroom was a fair sized but might have an issue if you use a wheelchair. The bathroom is a unisex and only seen one in total. The restaurant was playing some music and it was still ok to have a conversation with the opposite side of the table. Though it could be a lil tough if your a bit hard of hearing. With regard to any discounts, I failed to ask so my apologies with that. All told I'll certainly return here should I be in this area of the valley. They seem very flexible and accommodating to the customer. The food is made very clean and fresh. I definitely recommend you give it a shot even if it is a bit of a drive. It's worth the extra mile. I grew up in NY and Dao reminds me of a lot of Chinese spots on Long Island and in NYC. We love the eggplant and the vegetarians love the tofu in brown sauce. Highly recommended - definitely best Asian food in the area! read more

It's been a long time since I posted a negative review, but this experience was not good. 3 of the 4 servers were dressed in VERY casual clothing and we did not have one specific server. Two couples, but one couple got their dinners and the other couple didn't get theirs for 15+ minutes and only after we had to get up and ask someone about the delay. No explanation and other tables who were seated well after us were served. No one checked on us for drinks or to see how our food was. No apologies. No opportunity to request some sort of compensation. We had to ask for our bills and no speaking when the bills provided or were paid. The food was marginal. "Fried rice" barely had egg and no other ingredients beyond rice. Egg drop soup was good and huge portion. Crab wontons were good. It was the first time as a former server that I seriously considered not leaving any tip. It's possible that would have been the only way the staff got the message. The overall experience was unfortunate. I hope things turn around for them. The positive reviews are why we chose the restaurant and are very surprising after our experience. read more

Had lunch there first week of March 2025. Was not that fussy about the crab puff but everything else was excellent. Most important it was both fresh and served hot. The clooks know what they are doing. Fully 4.5 stars. Service was excellent and helpful. We had orange chicken as well as General Tsao. We had high hopes for this spot just walking in the door. It was very clean and nicely decorated, wonderful music playing. Everyone was friendly and our servers were extremely attentive. We were given a bowl of fried wontons with our drinks. The menu is extensive. We shared the crab puffs appetizer and had a couple vegetable egg rolls. The crab puffs had good flavor. The egg rolls were probably the best I've found in Arizona. Coming from the Midwest all the egg rolls we've tried out here have been more like spring rolls. My husband ordered the Mongolian beef and sweet and sour pork combo. The beef was a tad too sweet and while the SS pork was good, it tasted like maybe the fryer oil needed a change. I got shrimp pad Thai and was pleasantly surprised to find TEN huge shrimp in my dish! The pad Thai was a bit of a let down. It definitely had waaaay too much ginger. I could eat the Lo Mein from Dao Kitchen every. Single. Day. The beef was incredibly tender and I added vegetables with were cooked to perfection. Our food took a little while to come out and they brought free cream cheese puffs to hold us over, which was thoughtful and much appreciated. The hot and sour soup was one of the best I've had and kept us patient till the main courses came out. Which were seriously worth the wait! Service is nice and friendly, and the music they play makes you feel like you're at a spa. I was relaxed, happy, full and tired by the end of dinner. Highly recommend this place! read more

We got appetizers and the crab raccoon barely had any filling in it. They looked big, but when you've been into it, it was just air and very little filling of cream cheese, but no crab. The fried dumpling appetizer was really the only good thing. They brought my noodles before my main dish which were cold And then when my main dish finally came out, it was also not hot. Quite disappointed with this place. Went for some comfort food- again 20/30 minute drive today was quite more than 30 to get home with traffic as there was an accident and I was stopping at a friends house to drop her off dinner * important. I was leaving Anthem called, placed order asked them to put in 2 bags, gave the order. Got to the restaurant gave name and number, she gave me bag, I paid- I looked curiously, walked to my car , walked back in said order wasn't correct with order in hand. I advised should have been two bags, explained what I said, etc. The girl proceeded to feel the bag, not open it and say oh ya it's all there. I said okay and walked back to my car. I stared at the bag and knowing I had a 30 minute drive home without my stop to my friends I decided to look, sure enough I was correct. I then called. She then told me again I was wrong. Not her fault I had talked to someone else and if there wasn't a note however, if I had said something twice, we maybe should ask someone else. I then went back inside, there were other people, she handed me the bag and we exchanged thank yous and left, mind you- you told me two times I was wrong and I had my whole order before driving home 30 minutes. I would say- 5 minutes go by and I am about to merge to get onto the freeway south they call I answer my phone dies. To be quite frank, I didn't think about the total being off myself as I had I said there were 2 orders I assumed as I had told her that they had just not put it in 2 bags. I plug my phone in and proceed to my friends. My phone turns on and I have blue tooth and immediately they are blowing up my phone and tell me I didn't pay for my meal which I'm kind of shocked. The 2nd families dinner was rounding $33, I do understand times are hard right now. They nearly immediately ask for a credit card. I tell them I am driving, explain what happened, they laugh it off which is understandable, don't offer much apologies or accountability and I then tell them I will call them when I am not driving. I get home from my friends a few hours later, I have every intention of calling to pay, they can look at my number and see I frequent when I can and tip (also) . I look at my phone and there's a text from them that my food is ready. Applauded doesn't even begin to describe. I was so excited to bring and tell my friend and her family about this place to only have this experience, it's unfortunate. Not having my business will not affect you very much aside a years loyal customer hopeful for better for your continued loyal and future customers. We had lunch here. We both had a lunch special. My wife had the shrimp with veggies and I had the Kung Pow chicken. Each came with soup, a crab puff, an egg roll and rice. We both started with the hot and sour soup. It was really good. The soup would have been great except the wood ear mushrooms hadn't been hydrated enough and were extremely tough. But the flavor was outstanding. My wife had 7 large shrimp on her order but she was unhappy with the veggies. They were undercooked and surprisingly tough. She had to ask for a knife to cut some of them. But she thought the side dishes were very good. I had a similar experience with my dish. The flavor was great but I had to push some veggies to the side as they beyond chewy. Again, my side dishes were great. The service was quick (maybe too quick to soften the veggies) and the price was reasonable. We're going to give it another try for sure. read more
