Today was a profoundly sad day made a lot better with a surprisingly delightful meal. We intended to dine elsewhere but there was an hour-long wait. I looked at what was nearby and Osteria Mia looked really good. It would be a half hour wait, but there were immediately open seats at the bar. We headed there and took seats at the far end so we could talk. I ordered the Pasta Norcina and he ordered the Carne pizza. The pasta was one of the best pasta dishes I've had in the last 18 months. Granted, I don't eat a lot of pasta, and even fewer cream sauces, but it sounded soooo good and exceeded expectations! He enjoyed the crispness of the hand-stretched crust and quality toppings. Cody was our server and was simultaneously handling all the drink orders with occasional help. He was a good server for someone pulling double duty. What made the day super sucky (until dinner) is that my guy's father had passed away in the hospital after a recent cancer diagnosis. We tried Osteria Mia for the first time on a Friday night because we were craving pasta and pizza, and it definitely did not disappoint! The menu had so many delicious options that we had a hard time deciding what to order. Thankfully, our waitress, McKenzie, was amazing. She took the time to ask what we were in the mood for and made excellent recommendations based on our cravings. Everything she suggested was fantastic! She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and even shared information about the restaurant's weekly specials and events, which made us want to come back and try even more. The food was delicious, the service was exceptional, and the overall experience was wonderful. Most of the things that were off were not about the food. First the Good: All 6 of us enjoyed our entrees. Our server did a good job explaining and suggesting items. The cocktails were good. The servings were good sized and three of us took home part of our meals. The prices were fair and i would order the same again. Now the not so Good: It was difficult to find. We ended up parking a fair distance away. There was not room for us (6) indoors.... I'll know next time to reserve a table. The patio was dirty, bird dropping all over the railings and floors. It felt like lunchroom aftermath. I would have really appreciated a cushion on the mesh metal chairs. Being outside led to slow and forgotten service. There were some timing problems with our drinks and appetizers (forgotten). Then they showed up about two minutes before the salads and entrees. Our server took full responsibility and that was awesome. It seems like a great place... just a few tweaks will take it up a notch. String some lights , put some paraphernalia on the tables. Excited to find a great place to eat out in this area, it's hard to come across a place with great food like this one. We had Jennifer as our server and she was lovely. Started out with the Arancini's to share and the Beet Salad. Then we ended up sharing a few pizzas and pastas, everything was delicious! No bread offered to start Food is not great, lasagna = Chef Boyardee to the Tee - sauce, meat, texture. The lasagna at an Italian restaurant will tell you if it's good or not! The atmosphere needs to be more Italian themed and not a warehouse style. No decor, no white table cloths, No background music, one of there booth seats was torn to shit and they still placed a family there Etc... The sign outside is really nice and inviting. Strawberry balsamic spritz cocktail was delicious. Our waitress Mackenzie was amazing and checked back regularly to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. Definitely will not be back. Wanted to love it, but really disappointed We've been wanting to try Osteria Mia ever since we moved down the street, and finally gave it a shot but unfortunately, it was a letdown from the start. We were seated without any silverware, which made things awkward since we had just gotten our appetizer we couldn't even enjoy a starter properly. It took about 10 minutes before our server came back around with utensils. He seemed super busy, so we tried to be patient, but when he finally dropped off the silverware, he didn't even check if we were ready to order we had to ask someone else to get him. When our food came out, the pizza was cold. Not lukewarm actually cold, like it had just been sitting out. That was already disappointing, but then the pasta came out way too salty. At that point, we were just ready to wrap it up and go. Really wanted to like this place since it's so close to home, but the service felt disconnected and the food was just not good. We're from out of town, so I'll start with finding the place. You have to park your car - I suggest by the movie theater in the large shopping center. Then walk into the outdoor mall area and the restaurant is on the left. We found it easily once we were on foot. We arrived at 6pm on a Tuesday and the bartender was kind enough to get us a happy hour beverage (it ends at 6, Tuesday through Friday). When our friends arrived, we were seated quickly and service was attentive. They have a fabulous variety of bruschetta options to choose from. My only complaint is they were out of one I wanted to try, but we were pleased with the artichoke, roasted red pepper, and tomato choices we made. For my meal I had the mushroom ravioli and it was delicious! The balsamic sauce was tangy and gave the dish a nice complexity. I especially enjoyed the arugula in the center of the dish - it was almost like a little mini salad, which I appreciated because soup or salad are a la carte at this restaurant. My husband loved his lasagna bolognese. It looked perfectly meaty & cheesy. At the end of the meal, we lingered but it wasn't busy so it was fine, but after a bit they stopped filling our water. One nice touch - a friendly hostess took our photo as we were leaving - we hadn't seen these friends in years. Overall this is a great Italian restaurant with reasonably priced food for the freshness with good service in a nice area. If we lived here, we'd definitely go back again. read more

Homemade pasta (rigatoni)...delicious and cooked just right: al dente! Excellent rotation of salad dressings. A few months ago we had a mustard vinaigrette, and recently had a champagne vinaigrette. Both excellent. We also had a crispy thin crust pizza from the wood fired oven. I'm rating this up because the food in three visits has been consistently really praiseworthy. Service is just OK...took a few minutes to get our cocktails but food coursed out well from the kitchen. Nice place to bring a group. I brought four friends from out of town, one of whom is a restaurant owner. He appreciated the food and can be a tough critic. We celebrated two birthdays at Osteria Mia yesterday. We were greeted by our waiter Brady, who took great care of us and was very personable. I have a food allergy and the chef came out because he was concerned about my order which was so thoughtful and does not happen at very many restaurants. I had the Short Rib pasta, which was amazing. By the way, their pasta is homemade! My friend had a salad and there was so much chicken on it. I couldn't believe it. For dessert, she had a cherry cannoli, and I had the pistachio which was out of this world, yum! I normally don't eat cannolis, but these are delicious. But the sauce that was underneath them was cold. I am not sure if that is how it is supposed to be served. It was still tasty. We had mussels and a pasta dish. One of the crostini was a bit too burnt. My date didn't want to finish it. The pasta was tasty but not out of this world. Funghi - actually really gooood. I like the earthy warm palate of the mushroom with the truffle oil. Crust was crispy and and yummy which is all I can ever ask Red pasta sauce which was soooo yummy. I ordered to go and was not a fan. I got the tagliatelle bolognese and it looked nothing like the photo on their website. A lot of the pasta was dry and undercooked. Huge chunks of beef rather than an actual sauce. I think the kitchen is not consistent because it seems as most people are enjoying their meals but then there are several bad reviews about the food quality. Yesterday I ate at Osteria Mia. The pasta dish I got - Campanella (not sure about spelling) with chicken and a red wine sauce was excellent. Our server, Brodey, was one of the best servers I've encountered anyplace. He recommended several dishes and was every attentive to our needs. I visited with a friend for almost two hours and he even helped me get my phone working properly again. Us old people can't figure out cell phone problems, but since he's young, he figured it out pretty soon, which saved me a trip to the AT&T store. Tried the pasta norcina with black truffle and garlic cream sauce and gemmeli with shrimp, tomatoes, and a pesto cream sauce. Both dishes had great flavor. Enjoyed the pasta and they both had large portions which they kindly halved for us. Solid bowl, both were heavier dishes, but the gemmeli was a bit oily for my liking. How come we didn't know about the spice when we lived there five years ago. We were driving back from rock Springs Café with our Thanksgiving pies and wanted to eat. I searched yelp reviews from Black Canyon City a happy Valley Road and this was the only one that had very few one star reviews. The Caesar salad was quite possibly the best I've ever had and I have Caesar salad at almost every restaurant I go to. What was even more amazing was it was a side salad that my wife and I split with whole anchovies on top for only nine dollars Their pastas are house made. My wife and I had two different versions with the cream sauce that were good but not great. I look forward to trying something else next time I'm there. read more
