This is a tale of two experiences. The first time we dined here was on a relatively slow Thursday night. We ordered the Carne Asada Pasilla. Basically, steak and cheese enchilada with rice and beans. We ordered Margaritas as well. We got water right away; our drinks came fast and were good. The food was not only timely and fresh...the steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection...the cheese enchilada was excellent...even the rice and the grilled pepper were exceptionally good. The waiter was attentive and asked if we wanted another drink before the glass was empty. He filled our water glasses when they were low. It was a very good experience. Our next visit a little over a week later on a Friday night was something we were anticipating. We got reservations to sit outside and Ubered so we could both enjoy drinks and the experience. When we were seated, the waitress came by and took our drink order. We got our pitcher of margaritas (which had barely any tequila and full to the top with ice) before someone came by and dropped off a pitcher of water. We had to poor both ourselves. The chips and salsa came after our drinks and our appetizer came 2 minutes before the dinner. We both enjoyed the Carne Asada so much, we ordered it again. When the plates arrived, it looked like they had been sitting under the warmer for 15 minutes. The steak was so far over well done that there was no more moisture in the meat. They were essentially hocky pucks and you could tell just from looking at them. The enchiladas sauce had dried up and tasted like what you would expect after sitting under the warmer for an extended period. It took at least 5 minutes for the waitress to check on us after the food was delivered. When I told her the steak was overcooked, her response was "That is how we prepare it here." When I asked if dry and overcooked is really the standard, she offered to get a manager. The manager at least apologized and offered to get me a new steak. What she came back with was even more embarrassing than the first. This steak was unseasoned, still overcooked and had "F-you" written all over it. It looked like it had been cooked in a microwave oven. I wouldn't doubt there was spit on it. She then came back and told us she's not charging us for the Carne Asada plates. We didn't see our waitress again until she brought us the check. It is such a shame that we had such a good first experience followed by something so bad, that a return visit would be unthinkable. It's one thing to have inconsistent food or service...it is another to be inconsistent with both food and service. If you're looking for Mexican food...I would recommend you go elsewhere. read more

Came here in the evening and the food was very disappointing. We come here pretty often because of the convenience but they've been very inconsistent with their food. My cheese enchilada wasn't even melted, took a bite of it and it was cold and ruin my dinner. Server asked if I wanted them to just remake the cheese enchilada, so I took the offer. It's been a long time tradition for my children and I to go to El Encanto for Father's Day, even before it was El Encanto Dos. The food was good, the service was not great. Thankfully the manager was making his rounds or we may have never gotten a refill on our drinks to help wash down the yummy food. And our fundido sauce didn't show up until half way through our meal. I have tried the original el Encanto about a year ago and really liked it. I decided to give the second location a try as well while the restaurant was similar. There were some pretty clear differences. The ambience was lacking. The majority of the restaurant seating had views of the main road and the seating was very close together and didn't feel as cozy. The service was good. The food was also on point. I would still go back to the restaurant, however ask for inside seat. If given the choice between the two locations, I would go back to the main one before I would go to this one, however. read more

Stopped in last night with some friends for dinner. The place is huge with a ton of seating inside and out. The outside would be great for winter time, but alas it was inside this time due to the heat. We started with drinks, I tried the prickly pear margarita and eventually the house margarita (both frozen) and my husband got a Dobel Mexican Mule. All the drinks were great. The chips and salsa were good (I enjoyed the variety of flavors and heat levels they give.) It was interesting that the menu says the 1st basket of chips is free and any extra would cost. Makes sense, but it did have me eating them really slowly to avoid getting a second. Normally I would have plowed through them but since we were with others we didn't. The main food was sadly just "okay". It was more on the bland side and felt as just typical Mexican. I opted for the small cheese enchilada plate and my husband got the Plato Mexicano. Both of us thought the food was rather bland. Our friends tried a fajita plate and the chili relleno which was the special last night and only the fajita seemed to be worth note. Our friends did get the fried ice cream which was definitely unique (I had never had it crusted in cornflakes before). Our waiter was good. He took our drink orders and food and kept checking on us until he dropped off the check. Sadly he didn't split the check up (2 couples) so we had to have him do that. This was a bit further of a drive than the original El Encanto but there was no wait time on a Saturday night which is amazing! We started with the queso Guillermo. Cheesy goodness 5 stars. I had the special- the seafood enchiladas. The seafood inside was shrimp and scallops with a green enchilada sauce. 3.5 stars. Not bad, not my favorite. My husband had the taquitos 2 stars- very bland and chile rellenos - 4 stars. The bartender was our server- she was working so so hard we were shocked she didn't have more server help, so we did have to wait but it was ok, we had time. I'd love to visit this location again and walk around outside- they have a gated garden/event space that we couldn't see into but looked magical from the outside. read more

My Father and I went there Friday to have a nice lunch and left extremely disappointed before ordering drinks and food. Fantastic authentic Mexican restaurant that we make sure and hit every time we are in north Phoenix. For a fantastic appetizer, order the Queso Guillermo. It takes them a little while to prepare it, so have patience. I had the Plato de Carnitas. I have had it before, and it is always delicious. I basically eat it out of the bowl like a stew. My wife had the chicken Plato Burro. She thinks that ketchup is spicy so she felt like it was a little spicier than what she wanted. I had it the next day as a leftover, and it was delicious as well, and not that spicy. Great service, and try to sit outside if the weather permits. Great atmosphere. read more

Used to love this place but food quality is inconsistent and everything is way over priced now. Our table had 1 kids meal, 1 taquito appetizer, 1 small Pollo fundido, and 2 shredded beef tostadas, plus 4 sodas. The total with a tip was $116! My husband paid and when I looked at the receipt, it was showing the 2 shredded beef tostadas at $29! (What?!) The menu makes it seem like they are $8.99( which is still steep for 1) but they up charge $5.99 for shredded beef and since he got 2, double the charge. (Wish I had noticed this before our teen son ordered it because he barely ate any of it because it was a soggy mess with little meat.) Unfortunately, our weekly date to this place is done. We will find a new place. Things may be more expensive but this is ridiculous! read more

As a customer service worker myself I understand it's annoying when customers come in close to close and everyone just wants to go home but we came in 35 minutes before close, knew exactly what we wanted and were prepared to order immediately, eat and leave as soon as we were done. From the minute we walked it the hostility towards seating us and serving us was very obvious. Tiffany came across as very passive aggressive, hardly greeted us, took our order and then snatched the menus without another word. The environment was so uncomfortable we ultimately decided to get our food to go. She brought the check, we thanked her despite everything and she said "Yep" then walked away. Celebrated friends birthdays here last Thursday night. Mason, our server, was amazing - took care of 10 of with no issues and even added some entertainment. He was amazing at keeping up with us. I always feel a bit disappointed I don't ever think the food is up to the popularity. This week we went to ECDos. it is a beautiful restaurant the server was great. Beautiful location and outdoor patio. The inside was fine. The chips and salsas were wonderful as was the service. My reason for two stars was the food. I had the carnitas dinner and the best part of it was the black beans. The pork was tender, but flavorless. The corn tortillas were hard and like tough rubber.
