I went in wanting a bowl of noodles and soup, no expectations. Despite the fact my brother constantly went on about how clear and flavorful the soup was weeks prior when we passed by. It's a spot him and his friend used to frequent for House Noodles and this deep fried savory dough-- and he told me to just take a sip of the broth before eating anything. I've never seen such clear, refreshing, and flavorful soup before. It was just so good! The noodles were chewy and each protein in the House Noodles were so tender and juicy. And having placed the fried shrimp in batter on the side to keep it from getting soggy perfection. And honestly, I think it's because him and his friend are foodies or possibly male, or the fact they tend to have bottomless stomachs. But if you're HUNGRY or you wanna be STUFFED. A small bowl of the House Noodles and the savory fried dough is more than enough. This place is adorable too! We went on a Sunday after 3 or 4(?) it was nice and quaint. I've been a customer here since I was a little girl. Let me tell you, they have some of the best mi noodle soup around town. The house special fried rice is also delicious. We come here at least 3-4x a month and it is always satisfying and consistent. Get the house special noodle that comes with sliced pork, a piece of fried chicken, a fried shrimp toast, romaine, perfectly chewy egg noodles (wide or thin, or choose rice noodles) and a flavorful and clean broth. You can ask for more pork for 2bux extra. Make sure you find some jars of pickled jalapenos as well! You'll thank me later! The food here is so good. Like very other Vietnamese kid that grew up in the area. I remember as a kid I use to come to mi la cay after church with my family just about every other Sunday. I was so sad when the old location started to get run down but they moved and it's better than ever! They give away free freshly made mini-banh nam here. Which is my fat kid kryptonite. Chinese donuts with any of the soups is a MUST! Don't rob yourself! I also get the hu tiêu quite frequently with broth on the side and it's hits you right in the soul. There's so many other authentic dishes here you can't get at any pho restaurant. I love the che here too. Also, the service here is so friendly. The lady who owns the place makes you feel at home. This place is incredible! I've been looking for a solid Vietnamese spot since I moved here last November, and I think I've found it. I've ordered takeout from here a couple of times, and each time, I've ordered the House Noodle Soup, with the soup separate. So essentially, it's a dry noodle dish that they LOAD with chicken, pork, and a fried shrimp thing (look at the pics of the dish, you'll see it), and then you get the actual soup broth in a separate container. The dish is absolutely delicious, and for around $10, I personally think that it's extremely worth it. Along with the noodle soup, I also get one order of the Chinese Donut, which is very well done here. I find that it is crispier than what I've gotten from other places, yet still fluffy on the inside. It also doesn't feel like it's completely drenched in the frying oil. I want to try other items on the menu, but this order just has me hooked! My little interaction with the staff has been positive. I've also seen them interact with other dine-in customers in a very friendly way. The aesthetic is very nice on the inside - definitely nicer than the interior at typical Vietnamese restaurants. Everything looks polished and feels clean. I've never seen this place very packed to the point where you'd have to wait, but I've also never gone during peak dinner hours. Be aware that even though this place has a private lot, it's very small, and to be honest, I don't know where else you would park. Dropped by here with expectations and it turned out to be --- just okay. We arrived at Mi La Cay with a total party of 6 people and seating was fairly easy for us, my interactions with the wait staff was decent, definitely a mom and pop type of feel! The menu was easy to read and I opted to get the Mi vit tiem (Duckling Noodle Soup) with the soup on the side. I was really fond of the noodles, it had the right amount of firmness while still being chewy. Reminded me of one of the won ton trucks I frequently visited in Saigon with my baba. The broth was very light but didn't seem to have much flavor, which isn't a bad thing, just not my cup of tea. The reason for 3 stars is because of the duck... the star of the show! I'm probably being bias because my parents make the duck differently, but I found the duck to be VERY salty? Its possible that it was salty because I opted to get the soup on the side? STILL... This place has really good and authentic Vietnamese noodle soup! Frankly I don't know why it doesn't get more recognition than the Hue ky mi Gia restaurant. Yes this place is quick ok service, that means they seat you expect you to order and then deliver your food and not much else but as long as you ask for all your things you will get it. The egg noodle here is probably the best I can think of anywhere. It has this great consistency not too chewy not too soft just right and it goes very well when you pick the dry noodle option (with soup on the side). I usually go there and get the noodle with roasted duck and add wonton (apparently cheaper than to get the wonton noodle and add duck). My friends would get their house special. My friend also told me this is her favorite place for Che ba mau (don't ask me why one would think it is better at a deli). The only thing I have to say is this place is not very clean, so don't come in expecting too much. Parking can be tight too even if they have their own Parking lot but I can always find street parking. read more

I've been a couple of times now and have tried their different noodle soups. The last one I had was the fish ball and fish cake egg noodle soup. I definitely devoured all of it. This was one of the few restaurants open past 8 p.m. with a parking lot, so we came here after the Sounders game. It was freezing and raining that night so hot soup was much needed. We also ordered the fried tofu appetizer which was a HUGE portion! The tofu was good when it was hot, but after a few minutes of cooling, it becomes pretty tasteless. My noodle soup was delish... there's something about their egg noodles that I really enjoyed - I think it was saltier than other noodles that I've had, and I liked that. The fish cake and fish balls were exactly what I was craving so those hit the spot too. Service was quick and friendly. The only complaint I have is the parking lot and how it's an odd turn getting to the restaurant coming from Rainier Ave S.... Just order the #1 egg noodle. Noodles, fried shrimp, chicken, all delicious and flavorful in their own way. Chicken is moist and tender. Everything was easy to eat. These egg noodles is one of my favorite in the Seattle area. They don't have an ammonia smelling aroma, and no toxic after taste. (Some of the hk-er's might understand what i'm talking about) Broth is flavorful, but i prefer the noodles and broth served separately. Because when you have it this way.. the noodle comes in a light sauce toss. And you still have the broth on the side. win win. This is def one of my favorite place to eat at. Parking is very limited (small tight area) Service is okay. They never fill your water unless you ask, but there is a lady there and she's awesome!! She always offers to box up my unfinished food and super sweet about it. I always order the bbq duck with soup on the side. The duck is usually always fresh and the broth is amazing, and I love the pickled jalapenos!! I sometimes order the garlic wings, those are good too. Always served fresh and steaming hot! Very crunchy batter and moist in the middle. (too much might make you sick because of how much oil, so limit yourself) the prices are reasonable it's a little then $10 an entree. This place was surprising and different but in the end I thought it was only ok and not fantastic. They have these special fried Vietnamese dishes typically of seafood or wontons that tend to be very good since they have accompany dipping sauces that are particularly notable. However, I think noodles here are just ok, not wonderful and the items in the combo noodles dish are pretty standard of ones you'd find anywhere. The chicken was really good though, very tender and well cooked as well as well flavored. In the end I wouldn't mind coming back, but it didn't make a huge impression. read more

This store has been open since I can remember and is a staple to the area (I grew up eating the wonton soup before I could actually eat mi - to think of all of the years I wasted). Though service can be a little slow, prices are very reasonable for amount of food you get and the food has a very unique delicious flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by the noodles here. This was the gf's favorite place to eat when she studied in UofW and to be honest, since we had different taste buds, my expectations were kinda low. The noodle itself was just above average, but the great things are the stuff that it came with. The fried prawn pie (I think Hokkian people would call it "he pia") and the fried chicken were wonderful, especially the former. The highlight of the meal was the roast duck, it was crispy on the outside while still maintaining some fat underneath those skin. The fried wonton was good as well. The previous location, yet not so convenient, was better imho. We first ordered the calamari, waited a while, ordered two soups, waited a while more, received the calamari after a long wait. Presentation, flavor, and taste were all pretty good. Seemed we waited a long time for our soups, flavors were okay, noodle to meat & vegies ratio was way off, way too much noodle. I love noodles, but when locked in a huge clump the size of your head its no fun anymore, difficult to eat, and all together way too much. Wow... what can I say about the decor?? There's a whole mess of turquoise here. It's hard to describe... ummm.. if walls could have shoulder pads? It's like some very bad interior designer from the 80's had a field day in this place...and then threw up. Hmmm. But then again, what do I care what a place looks like?? Bring me tasty treats!!!! On to the important stuff now. My friend Katie brought me here tonight, and suggested I order the wonton and egg noodle bowl. When our order came to the table, we each got two bowls. One with a nice, flavorful broth with wontons in it.... and another with crisp bits of romaine lettuce, scallions, and a few thin slices of pork on top of some delightfully seasoned egg noodles. Very simple, cheap (5.75), and satisfying. This is definitely a place I will try again. I came out of the restaurant with the feeling that I hadn't done myself too much harm... kinda the same way I feel after I've had sushi. Oh, and did I mention how cheap it was??? I had a craving for noodles and Hue Ky Mi Gia is closed on Tuesdays. Yelp directed us to Mi La Cay for similar offerings. Going over the reviews, I saw that another Yelper had mentioned that this is the same Mi La Cay as the one in San Jose. That was what I had wondered about the first time I drove past it almost 5 years ago but never looked into it. I had eaten at the SJ location once, and was not too impressed. We ordered the calamari. I had the seafood noodle soup with clear noodles and with soup on the side. My BF got the house special with fried shrimp, fried chicken, and pork. He got his with soup and wide rice noodles. The tea was lukewarm. Who likes lukewarm tea? All of the food came out at the same time, which was strange since the calamari was an appetizer. The food was great, though. I loved my noodles. The sauce that came with the noodles was perfect. The soup on the side (with shrimp, squid, etc) was nice and light. The shrimp was especially fresh. I didn't have any, but my BF loved his noodles and liked it better than Hue Ky Mi Gia. This is a hole in the wall specializing in egg noodles. They've got other dishes, but not so good. There's a variety of options as to what you may want with your egg noodles from wonton, roast duck, seafood, fish balls, etc. Try a Chinese donut to accompany your noodles. Kind of annoying that bean sprouts are not automatic, but you can request for steamed ones.. Good with the noodles. I don't recommend any of the fried noodle dishes. Super flavorless. Same goes for the rice dishes. Don't expect to find pho here either. I think the best thing you can get at this restaurant is the jalapenos soaked in vinegar! They are soooo GOOD. The chili sauce isn't bad either. Their parking lot is tight with narrow spaces. If you drive a nice car that you'd be concerned about dinging up, I suggest finding street parking. Stay clear from the restrooms. Also don't expect eye appealing decor. Just focus on eating your noodles. The prices have increased throughout the years, but it's still cheap eats. read more
