Roti Jala with chicken curry, Mushroom Pan Mee

Service was decent. Food came out really quickly, which is usually my experience here. Tried the mushroom pan mee this time and it was so good! I usually get the chili one, but if you love mushrooms, you should definitely try that one.

I have yet to try any other item on the menu here because the laksa lemak is soooo delicious that I have to order it every time I come! I always get tofu with no bean sprouts, which they happily can remove for me. I love how the waiter made sure I was okay with the egg and fish paste, being mindful of vegan customers. The meal is perfectly spiced and filling so I always take away the second half for leftovers. And it's just as delicious reheated. We did get to try a couple appetizers, including the nuts and the shrimp chips. The shrimp chips came with a tasty dip and were kind of like eating chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. I would pass on the peanuts next time just because I didn't like the fishy taste of them. My friends loved the sugar plumerita and ordered seconds. I enjoyed my zero alcohol beer, which I appreciate that they offered. The restaurant was beautiful inside and bigger than I expected! The ambiance was relaxed, with dimmed lighting and pretty lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Street parking only. There is a bathroom here.

Not gonna lie, I was surprised about the heavy door to get to the restaurant but it was pretty cool! The interior of the restaurant was nice and had a good relaxing vibe. There wasn't a wait and we were seated immediately. My table ordered a roti jala w/ chicken curry, nasi lemak w/ beef rendang, and chili pan mee (both entree photos were blurry, sorry). The roti was great, I definitely enjoyed the curry - highly recommend you get that. I had the nasi lemak and I can say that it was good as the combination of flavors were present. However, I wish the sambal was more spicy. I don't think it was mild either. In addition, the beef rendang wasn't as tender as I expected it to be. These are some of my personal thoughts on it - perhaps I might be wrong. I do recommend coming to this place still and I will be back to try out more of the menu.

Every dish was amazing, 10/10. We entered flow state as our spoons alternated dipping into each dish. Got the nasi lemak (anchovies/peanut combo was addictive), roti jala (first time having roti like this!), and nasi goreng. Only note was that service was a bit unattentive to our table, notably since the beginning. food was nicely priced compared to other asian spots in seattle, overall highly recommend (:

*Things to Know Before Dining In* Kedai Makan automatically applies an 18% service charge for all dine-in orders, whether you're dining solo or with a group. Takeout orders include a 9% service charge. One small note: the entrance door is quite heavy. The food is served as it's ready. When I visited, the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, yet the food still took a while to come out. It did make me wonder how much longer the wait might be during peak hours when the restaurant is packed. Roti Jala Roti Jala is a traditional net bread made with flour, egg, turmeric, and coconut, served with either chickpea curry or chicken curry. We chose the chicken curry, which included a few pieces of chicken. This was my first time trying Roti Jala, and it turned out to be a great experience. The net bread was light, airy, and had that signature lace-like texture. It's a wonderful dish to share, tearing off pieces and dipping them into the curry made it both interactive and enjoyable. Sayap Ayam Pedas (Chicken Wings) These are fried chicken wings labeled as spicy on the menu, but personally, I didn't find them spicy at all. If you enjoy heat, I'd recommend asking for extra spice. While the wings weren't as crispy as I expected, they were still well-seasoned and flavorful.

This is my local friend's top favorite restaurant in Seattle! I was not disappointed at all. The service was friendly, fast and attentive. The inner decor was lively and vibrant. I felt like I was being transported to another country. AND THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! We ordered the chicken satay, chili pan mee (noodles), and nasi lemak. For each dish, these are my thoughts: 1. Chicken satay -- 4/5 The chicken was mild and well seasoned with one creamy peanut sauce that contained chopped peanuts. This dish was enjoyable and less flavorful compared to Thai chicken satay dishes. If I were to come again, I'd try their roti instead. 2. Chili Pan Mee -- 5/5 I really enjoyed these noodles that came with fried shallots, green onion, garlic minced pork, anchovies, eggs, and greens. All the flavors blended well together to make each bite flavorful and savory. This was probably my favorite dish! 3. Nasi Lemak with Beef - 4.5/5 The coconut rice mixed with the chili paste, anchovy, and peanuts were a secret weapon combo. The beef was creamy and tasted savory and like it was cooked with coconut. It was very unique to me, and I'd happily eat it again. Overall, I'd definitely recommend coming here for lunch for great service and delicious food!

My friends wanted to go out to dinner and one of them wanted to go here. I've never heard of this place and I'm not too familiar with Malaysian food. I've only had it once before and I really enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to this place. Getting there: The drive wasn't too bad coming from Tacoma on a Friday afternoon. It's located by a few notable restaurants. Pretty popular area for food in Capitol Hill. But of course with these places in Capitol Hill, parking is horrible. Street parking does exist but it's extremely limited. There is a pair parking lot behind the building, it's about $30. One of my friends is pregnant and I'm not gonna make her walk too far. Ambiance: Upon arrival, you would've never guessed this place was there. It didn't seem like a restaurant and I would easily miss it. Once inside it seems a bit dark inside at first, but your eyes will adjust. They use mostly natural lighting and some overhead lights. There was seating for about 40-50 people. The tables weren't that big and they added a bit if intimacy. Good vibes for a simple date. Service: It wasn't too busy when my group arrived, but we were seated immediately. They do accept reservations. Our server was very friendly and she was quick. She gave us menus, took our orders, and brought us our food in a very timely manner. And as soon as we were finished, she was ready to take all the dishes away. She was really on top of it. Food: We all decided to eat our food family-style. One of us was participating in lent, so we most of us decided to keep it either vegetarian or seafood. My first thoughts were that the food all looked absolutely amazing! We had a beautiful spread and a great variety of dishes. We had nasi lemak, nasi goreng kampung, mushroom pan mee, chicken satay, and roti jala. We started with the roti jala with chickpea curry and chicken satay. The roti was a bit underwhelming but the curry was good. I never had Malaysian roti before, but it was light in flavor and a bit too soft for me. The curry went well with it. The chicken satay was also alright. I didn't the sauce didn't really stand out too much either. The mushroom pan mee is where things started to change. For having no meat, this dish was surprisingly good. The anchovies, fried shallots, and sambal added all sorts of flavor. The greens added some freshness and the poached egg added some creaminess. There was a lot going on but it went well together. Although I would've liked a little bit more sambal, but my friends already thought it was spicy. Maybe I just missed it in my bites. Next comes the nasi lemak, Malaysia's national dish. I really enjoyed this dish. We chose to have it with chickpea curry again, but this one was slightly different from earlier for some reason. It was a little thicker and deeper in flavor. It was really good with the coconut rice, anchovies, and roasted peanuts. I don't even like peanuts, but these were amazing. It was crispy, but not crunchy. It added a really nice texture that completed the dish. The star of the show was the nasi goreng kampung with prawns. This was like the final boss combining flavors from their nasi lemak and their pan mee. All the best parts of each dish, but they added Thai chili and we added prawns to it. I think what I enjoyed most was the spice. It added the depth and complexity to the dish I was missing from the others. I also couldn't get enough of the sambal and I had to add it with every bite. This dish was absolutely delicious and everything I wanted out of my whole experience. I'd definitely get this dish again and again. Final thoughts: Overall, I had a great experience. This place has really open the doors for me in terms of Malaysian food and I'd love to come back. I recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice dinner with a small group of friends or even a date. The total was about $30 per person after you add in the automatic 18% service charge. I think the food and the service was worth it.

I enjoyed trying the food here overall, though it didn't quite stand out for me. The chicken wings were a little on the dry side and could have used more flavor. The roti jala was good, though there was a small mix-up with our order -- we received chickpea curry instead of the chicken curry we ordered. That said, I really enjoyed the nasi lemak and would recommend it. The staff were friendly, service was quick, and the dim ambiance made for a nice dining experience.

I really enjoyed the food and I think it was delicious and the side options meant I didnt have to sacrifice anything for something else which I loved but I did find the food to be alittle expensive so this isnt a place id ever choose regularly. for a one time visit it was perfect though and the staff was very friendly and attentive. parking isnt great but you'll have to figure that out. the interior was really cute though and I imagine someone worked hard to create this ambiance so make sure to appreciate what they have if you can

This is one of my family's (5 people) favorite restaurants! We have gone here multiple times now and love everything we get. We typically get 2 sides and 3 mains, and it has been the perfect amount of food for all of us. Some of our favorites are the Nasi Lemka with chicken, Malaysia's national dish, which is full of flavor and has a unique flavor profile. Another favorite is always the Laksa Lemak, which is a delicious, rich noodle soup that has a thick, almost peanut like broth and is also full of flavor. Overall, I think the dishes all have unique flavors, textures and are just so full of flavor you'll keep wanting more. My family has always made a reservation ahead of time and has always been seated quickly and the waitstaff is very efficient and attentive. It is a smaller space, but doesn't feel too crowded or loud, which is also nice. If you're going on the weekend, I would making a reservation in advance.

THE BIG: Had to do a revisit of this classic spot. Now in a bigger space and still with great dishes and flavors. Located in the Capital Hill area, this is a dope malaysian spot to try out if you're in the area. Street parking and paid lots available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here right as they opened up (at 11am) on a Saturday morning and it's kind of nice getting in before the lunch rush. For food, we ordered the roti jala, laksa lemak shrimp, chili pan mee and for dessert the bubur hitam. The chili pan mee was so good and the laksa lemak had so much flavor. The roti jala came out first and was a nice appetizer for things to come. The waittress almost forgot about our dessert but then saw that we never got it and ran to the back to grab the dish. It was a nice sweet brown rice with 3 pieces of longan on top. BTW, they already add a 18% gratuity and a 3% worker equity fee THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall we spent around $83 for all the dishes and had enough food to take home. Definitely a great idea to revisit and Kedai Makan did not disappoint!

Worth going at least once. If you're a fan of curries, fried rice, or spices you'll enjoy this place. Very popular but there wasn't a long wait when we went. Service is fast and it's pretty loud inside so you'll have to speak loudly. Roti was our favorite, the chickpea curry with it was a standout. The nasi goreng(?) fried rice was a little too spicy for me but it had good flavor. The laksa was more thick than I was used to but it had good flavors, a lot of bean sprouts though and the prawns were just pretty little.

The Nasi Lemak also has a Vegetarian or Vegan option.

We've been here previously with another couple, this afternoon as guests of the good doctor Nyan and his lovely wife, Thanda. I'm told this is actually a representative locale for Burmese fare. It was unfortunate that they only have one server on a Sunday afternoon, but he did very well, managing to be attentive and polite. More than I probably would have. Still, it's very romantic and cozy with dim lighting and modest noise. The place is filled with paper lanterns and lovely colours I immediately noticed the portions being smaller than a few months ago. Something that was echoed by both drs and Mrs. E. The food has been delicious both times. I previously ate the Chili Pan Mee, which was superb, this time out it was the Mushroom Pan Mee which was even better. Many of their creations are either very sweet or hot with heavy curry. Always ask your server if you're not certain what to order. They don't want to return something, uneaten, back to the kitchen just as badly as you don't want to send it back! Most importantly, make a reservation. Especially for dinner or other peak times. This place gets crowded. 06/25

Did they take their best item on their menu off--Chili Pan Mee noodles?

Looks like that. The last two times I went there (within the last 2 months), I couldn't find that item on their menu

    Do they serve frog legs?

    No, they don't.

    Phone number?what is it

I don't think they have a phone. I lost a jacket there and messaged them on Facebook. They responded.

Is the food halal or kosher?

    I dont think so

Can I make reservations a couple of days in advance?

Unfortunately no, they don't take any reservations. Expect to wait anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on the day and time you go. They will text you when your table is ready though so we usually put our name in and then go to a bar around the… Read more

What are the prices like over here?

The dishes are $13-$17 each. Expect to be spending ~$20 at the minimum but more like $30 each person since you'll want appetizers.

Do they offer an gluten free options?

Yep, lots of gluten free options. I doubt that the kitchen has room to have dedicated GF cookware and such so if you are celiac and super sensitive to cross contamination it probably isn't safe, but there are many gluten free menu items

    Are there vegan options?

Yes, Roti jala, Mushroom pan mee, Nasi goreng kadai to name a few !

    Is this place vegetarian friendly?

Definitely! There are appetizers and meal options without meat.

Does this place allow kids for dinner?

yes- its pretty much first come first serve, aka, long line, no res. but totally worth it.

Are the spicy pork ribs still available?

Not when I went a week and a half ago. I'd guess they'll be back sometime though! They're so good!

How many people can they accommodate in a party? And is this number an available option in the Nowait or Yelp waitlist service? Thanks!

I would estimate up to parties of 10 or 12. They do have a listing on Nowait.

Does the Nowait app works for this place? Both time I felt like we waited longer than usual?

I've only used it once and we were seated on time. I think of it more like a queue and they try to stick to the right time. Just depends on how long other people sit and eat!

My girlfriend and I stopped in before a flight, which in hindsight was a mistake. We ordered around 12:30 PM (niku beef udon, garlic pork udon, and chicken karaage), and it took nearly an hour to receive everything. The karaage came out first after about 40 minutes, then one udon about 10 minutes later, and the final dish close to an hour after ordering. Because of this, we weren't able to eat together unless one of us let our food go cold. On top of that, the restaurant itself was uncomfortably cold, which made the long wait feel even worse. It also seemed like many other tables were experiencing similar issues--orders coming out at different times or missing entirely, with customers having to repeatedly follow up. What stood out most was the lack of communication. There was no acknowledgment of the delays, no check-ins, and no apology--not when the food was dropped off, and not even when we left. Given that we had to pay upfront and the price point was $20+ per bowl, it made the experience feel even more disappointing. While the portions were decent and the noodles seemed handmade, the food itself didn't feel particularly special to justify the wait or cost. I truly hope this feedback is helpful. With better timing, communication, and overall service, I think the experience could be much better.

This place is a true gem, serving satisfying, delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere at an affordable price. The restaurant looks small from the front, but space is used efficiently and they manage to fit quite a bit of seating into not that large of a dining room. Tables are mostly four tops, quite spacious at that, and surrounded by sturdy wooden chairs. I came for dinner on a Friday evening and there were a few other tables at any given time. Service was quick and our water never ran empty. We had the wontons in hot oil, topped with peanuts, I had the beef chow fun, and my dinner buddy had the pork with hot sauce noodles. The wontons are very very good, stuffed with flavorful pork and swimming in a sauce that sits in that perfect spot at the intersection of hot and sour. The peanuts and scallions add a delightful crunch. Their beef chow fun satisfies every bit of childhood nostalgia I have for this dish, with lots of wok hei, bouncy noodles, and the most tender of beef. I think my favorite beef chow fun in the city still lives at A+ Hong Kong Kitchen, but this is a close second. The portion here is also huge. I am a human vacuum and I actually brought leftovers home, which is rare for me. The pork with hot sauce noodles is seemingly a fusion of zha jiang mian and dan dan noodles. My friend really enjoyed it and actually finished the whole thing, which is saying something given that she doesn't usually eat that much. There are so many other items on the menu that I'm eager to try, so I will definitely be back.

Really tasty. The noodles had so many flavors from the vegetables to the meats (shrimp, chicken meat & egg, and pork) and the sauce. I enjoyed the meal, and look forward to discovering more dishes to try on our adventures trying to find parking. JuFeng, thank you for the delicious meal!
