The best thing I had here was the Eel / Unagi skewer. Very flavorful. It makes me want to try the Eel with rice dish. 2nd place was the American Wagyu Skewer - I got salt and no saice it was a distant 2nd. Then the Waygu Rice Bowl with egg - it was good. Not great, but good. For the $25 price tag a bit underwhelming. The chicken thigh skewer with green onion was ok. Got the sauce with it and it was ok. I don't think the rice here is sushi or Japanese rice - it didnt have that stickiness and texture was more American rice - this was disappointing. So overall it's a-ok experience here. Had the Wagyu Rice Bowl been better we would be at 4 stars but that thing cost me $25 and it was underwhelming. read more

Very sleek and pleasant restaurant to dine in! We came on a Saturday afternoon, nowhere near any meal time, so it was super empty. We weren't expecting much, but holy cow, this was a top-tier, 5-star meal for sure. We didn't eat much, because we were in between meals, but I'm so glad we stopped by: * Wagyu Suyiyaki - A little wrap with Wagyu strips on the outside, wrapping veggies on the inside. The meat was tender and flavorful. So much delicious packed into a small bite. * Wagyu Tataki Donburi - A small donburi but this was the perfect amount of food. The rice was lightly flavored by the sauce on the wagyu. The wagyu was cooked medium rare and although I don't *normally like raw egg yolk, this was a perfect addition to the meal. Shinya Shokudo is one of those spots you try once and immediately want to come back to--we loved it so much, we came here twice in just three days. The mentaiko creamy udon is absolutely incredible. The noodles are perfectly springy, and the sauce is rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor. We also loved the grilled okra--simple, fresh, and done just right. I could honestly eat both dishes every day for a week and not get tired of them. One thing to note: the ordering system is all online. You scan a QR code, browse the menu, and place your order through a website, so there's not much traditional interaction with the server. That felt a little odd at first, but our server with the glasses was still very friendly and attentive when we needed anything. Usually I walk by when it's bustling and bursting at the seams with people, so I was truly surprised to walk in right at opening and being one of two tables sitting down. I was honestly so disappointed since it is so highly reviewed. We were the first ones there, they had just opened up I believe. Stopped by for a late lunch and the restaurant was mostly empty, so service was extremely fast. We got a skewer combo, the sukiyaki, a salmon don, oyakodon, and some scallop sashimi. Overall we enjoyed everything, particularly the skewer combos (albeit a bit pricey imo). The sukiyaki meat was rolled up with salad-like vegetables which was a bit unexpected, but maybe I just didn't read the menu properly - though the sukiyaki soup was very flavorful and just right in saltiness that you could still drink the soup. Oyakodon and the salmon don were both solid, though portion size a tad small for the price. All in all, food was good and we enjoyed our meal. I came to shinya for a friends birthday and I thought it was such a nice place to celebrate!! There's QR codes on the table where everyone can add to the order, so it was really easy for large groups (just make sure it's the same table QR). I ordered the creamy udon, a chicken and green scallion skewer, and a cocktail! I've ordered a similar udon somewhere else but it ended up being fishy tasting. I can definitely see this spot as a good hangout or nice dinner spot. The menus were through a QR code and you order on your phone. We made a reservation both times for 5:30, and while there were extra free tables when we showed up it started getting really busy by the time we left. The servers were friendly and attentive. To order you scan a QR code and can continuing ordering multiple rounds of food and drinks as you want them which was very nice. My husband and I were quite excited to try this place because it's a new experience for us. When we waited in, we were greeted and sat. They didn't offer the AYCE option. We had to ask and they gave us the menu for it. I would've appreciated a bit more explanation of the ordering process. I had to ask a few questions before we got going on ordering. - SERVICE - 3/5 Basically - we get 90 minutes to eat. Theres 3 sections. The top and bottom are unlimited and some cost extra. You can order however many items you want from them. They limit on the middle section where the skewers are. We were allowed to order up to 6 (total) skewers at a time. 6! (It takes about 2 bites to finish a skewer). They waited until you've eaten all 6 skewers before putting in your next order. They brought the food out quick once it was done grilling, but I would've also liked it if they explained which ones they were. They just print out the order and strike off which one they brought. We had to get up and look at it because it was turned upside down. - FOOD - 3/5 We tried most of the meats. It's basic grilled meat on a stick with salt or a sauce on the side. Some were dry (chicken breast). Some were great (waygu for an additional cost, shishito peppers, and the chicken thighs). But, toward the end, we just came to the conclusion that the chicken thighs were the best thing on the menu. We did a few orders of just chicken thighs and left. I'd say, prob never again for us. We came here for their AYCE on a Saturday. Somehow my reservation made via yelp went missing when we arrived to check in for our reservation. It was fine though since we came late and we were able to grab a table shortly. The ordering was a bit weird, the AYCE menu has to be ordered via the servers and anything outside e.g. drinks, they seem to prefer us ordering via the app. Regardless, we started with some appies and I really liked the Goma tofu and the tomagoyaki. For the skewers, my favoritea are the prime beef tendon and the miso beef. Unfortunately the pork neck was unavailable so we didn't get to try that. Came here to try it while I was in town but mostly because I was craving creamy udon and saw this Shinya Shokudo had it and my goodness f they did not disappoint! We walked in and were quickly seated. The women brought us water right away which I appreciated because we had walked to the restaurant. The inside was also super authentic in their Japanese decorations. It was stunning and inviting. As someone who has been to Japan before; I really appreciated the aesthetic! We ordered two drinks, a the Yuzu Mojito and the Strawberry Gin. The drinks were tasty but not at all strong.. we also ordered the Mentaiko Creamy Udon, the Oyakodon and Yakitori which we didn't know was chicken liver and other kinds of meats; the waiter came back and asked us if we were sure we wanted it and we responded "absolutely!" We love trying new things! The Mantaiko Creamy Udon was the perfect balance of flavor with cream and subtly hints of sake in it, it was heavenly! The oyakodon was cooked perfect, there was a perfect hint of bonito in it that put it over the top, not to mention the rice was cooked absolutely perfect! This restaurant is open really late (like 1am), which is really convenient, especially on days like Monday where a lot of restaurants are closed. The menu options were plentiful and it was a fun way to have dinner and didn't take too long. Came for the AYCE yakitori and it was delicious! My husband and I made reservations for around 4:30pm on Sunday because AYCE yakitori on Sunday is anytime after 3pm. The ambiance of this restaurant is modern and smart casual. Service is friendly. The AYCE menu is limited in options but still a great deal if you want to try multiple things! My only note is that yakitori can take a while to cook so don't expect them to come out super fast. Mixed feelings on this place due to a variety of factors. We didn't realize their AYCE menu had specific hours (our bad here) but we really wished they made this more clear on their actual website or storefront instead of having folks rely on hours being written in various Yelp reviews. We came at 7pm on a Monday and the place had a good number of tables but with an overall quieter atmosphere. Food was okay - the star was really the chicken momo (thigh) or chicken negima (chicken and green onion) skewers with salt. These were tender, well seasoned and delicious! The beef udon was rather expensive ($13) given the small portion. It came in more of a child size bowl and there was really nothing special about any part of it. Broth was overly sweet and the beef, tofu, noodles were all pretty average - probably something you'd expect in a food court style setting. The garlic beef - we ordered separately and asked for one of them as well done. Turns out they did both well done - which meant my partner landed with really tough, overcooked beef instead. So that was a pretty big disappointment. At the end we had to ask 2-3 times for the check since the payment option wasn't working on their QR menus. We also asked to split the check and they forgot - just handed us our final check after asking a few times so that was pretty frustrating. Overall would recommend coming later at night for AYCE and expecting slower service. AYCE hours are supposedly Mon-Sat AFTER 9pm and Sundays after 3pm. The size of the wagyu Donburi is a little smaller than the pictures suggest, but very tender and delicious. Don't let the raw egg scare you; it's perfectly fine to eat and delicious when mixed with rice. The cocktails were also delicious but a little on the sweeter side if that is what you enjoy. There is a single stall women and men's restrooms with codes to enter. Parking can be difficult to find in the area, as only street parking is available. It was smooth and silky, probably the best I've had. The udon was soft but not mushy. My wife loved this dish. I'm not sure how to feel about the miso sauce. The cheaper-priced skewers do feel tougher and a much lower quality. At $7 for 2 skewers (at lowest) it's at a reasonable price. And while I enjoyed the creamy udon, they seem to have removed the mentaiko from it and replaced it with tobiko, making it only half as good. Bring it back, please? My wife and I came to Shinya Shokudo in the Belltown area in Seattle for a Yelp Elite event and bought several other items to share to complete a late dinner. We had the Shitake mushroom caps which were delicious and had great texture and seasonings. We also had Mune Niku, Garlic Beef, and Gyu Tan Moto. Each of these other authentic Japanese items we ordered were very unique to me as I typically have Sushi or Teriyaki in Japanese restaurants. Shinya Shokudo allowed me the opportunity to try bite sized skewers of other tasty options that I both enjoyed and didn't. I didn't really like the Gyu Tan Moto (beef tongue) as it was chewy but I loved the Garlic Beef skewers. They were tender and seasoned very well. The Mune Niku Skewers (chicken breast) were a bit dry for my liking. We were able to bring home leftovers so that is always a bonus. Ok I think I got the wagyu donburi people had been talking about in reviews? The wagyu tataki. It was pretty good. Looks very impressive. The meat was good, tender. But honestly? Not my favorite thing I ordered. The rice was a little... idk weird? Like the grains felt hard, and the rice wasn't really that soft or fluffy. The real star of my meal was the wagyu skewer. WOW. I think where wagyu shines best is when it's cooked and you have the juices and the fats in every bite you take, and the skewer was 100% that. The tataki was way more lean and it felt more like eating sliced prime rib meat, which was still good, but I personally prefer the char and deliciousness that comes with cooked or seared meat. That skewer was so damn good. I also ordered the shiso chicken skewer which was good, and the zucchini with the tare sauce, also good. They were super attentive with the water, making sure my cup was never empty, and also giving you ample chances to ask the staff for things like the bill.
