Shinya Shokudo is one of those spots you try once and immediately want to come back to--we loved it so much, we came here twice in just three days. The mentaiko creamy udon is absolutely incredible. The noodles are perfectly springy, and the sauce is rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor. We also loved the grilled okra--simple, fresh, and done just right. I could honestly eat both dishes every day for a week and not get tired of them. One thing to note: the ordering system is all online. You scan a QR code, browse the menu, and place your order through a website, so there's not much traditional interaction with the server. That felt a little odd at first, but our server with the glasses was still very friendly and attentive when we needed anything. If you're in the mood for bold Japanese comfort food, this place is absolutely worth it.

Absolutely skewered by how delicious this meal was! I was super pleasantly surprised by this spot. Usually I walk by when it's bustling and bursting at the seams with people, so I was truly surprised to walk in right at opening and being one of two tables sitting down. I think every single item was a hit. Highlights: chirashi bowl, waygu donburi, and curry karaage rice. Dangers of ordering little things at a time is that you can get carried away LOL. Second stomach does some heavy lifting here. You order via smartphone which was pretty painless to me.

I think we messed up by coming here during the day. I think we should've came at night and also had drinks with the skewers. It just didn't hit during the day. I was honestly so disappointed since it is so highly reviewed. We were the first ones there, they had just opened up I believe. We got seafood combo (scallop, salmon, eel, shrimp), the kushiyaki combo (pork belly, garlic beef, duck, beef), chicken skin, chicken heart, and chicken skewers. Everything lacked seasoning, it all tasted kind of bland. I really needed extra soy sauce on the side for it. The beef skewers in the kushiyaki combo were so dry. Nothing was that good. Everything came kind of luke warm, not hot. The best skewer was the chicken skewer and even that one was just good not amazing.

Stopped by for a late lunch and the restaurant was mostly empty, so service was extremely fast. We got a skewer combo, the sukiyaki, a salmon don, oyakodon, and some scallop sashimi. Overall we enjoyed everything, particularly the skewer combos (albeit a bit pricey imo). The sukiyaki meat was rolled up with salad-like vegetables which was a bit unexpected, but maybe I just didn't read the menu properly - though the sukiyaki soup was very flavorful and just right in saltiness that you could still drink the soup. Oyakodon and the salmon don were both solid, though portion size a tad small for the price. All in all, food was good and we enjoyed our meal. Space was large and could seat a lot of people, with good spacing between tables. Seems like a great spot for snacks and drinks, not really a full-meal kind of place. You can still fill up on dishes, just may be a bit more expensive than at a regular restaurant. Everything was via the online ordering system, so scan the QR code to view the menu & order. Nonetheless, would still come back!

Solid food but not exceptional. A good stop to check out when in a hurry from the airport. Really friendly and attentive staff. Must get: - Udon soup with scallion - chicken liver skewer - momo skewer (chicken thigh) Solid - chicken cartilage skewer - chicken karaage (best enjoyed hot) - shishito pepper skewer - zucchini skewer Skip: - heart or heart ventricle skewer - seaweed salad (too slimy) - mushroom skewer My hubby enjoyed the sake flight.

Setting: Very clean and inviting space. QR code menu (pictures below) on the table which you order from as well. Click on the item to see what the item is in English. Price: A little high for what you get for the skewers Service: Was fine, had 1 server for four tables which he handled well. Food: Assortment of skewers (garlic beef, hotate (scallop), pork neck, Wagyu sukiyaki, and chicken cartilage) -- Everything was bland and dry. Only liked the chicken cartilage if that's something you're into. Was overall disappointed. Portion was small for price. Creamy Udon -- My favorite dish. Never had this before, seems like a spin on Italian cream based sauce with perfectly chewy udon noodles. Would come back for this alone.

I came to shinya for a friends birthday and I thought it was such a nice place to celebrate!! There's QR codes on the table where everyone can add to the order, so it was really easy for large groups (just make sure it's the same table QR). I ordered the creamy udon, a chicken and green scallion skewer, and a cocktail! I've ordered a similar udon somewhere else but it ended up being fishy tasting. Im happy that this udon was super buttery and didn't have a fishy taste! The cocktail was strong at the end but I really enjoyed it and it came with gummies! All in all I had a great time! The atmosphere was nice too and I would definitely come back to try the other skewers.

My friend and I came to check this spot out because I was really looking forward to the AYCE izakaya and creamy udon. We came on a Saturday and we were seated immediately. I can definitely see this spot as a good hangout or nice dinner spot. The menus were through a QR code and you order on your phone. I didn't end up seeing the AYCE option, so I just ended up ordering a yuzu mojito, creamy udon, and 3 yakitori pieces. I got garlic beef, beef tendon, and duck and they were all really yummy and tender. They were about $5 each, which could be pretty expensive depending on how many pieces you eat. The creamy udon was really good, but I do wish it was served in a bigger bowl so it's easier to mix. The food was good, just a little pricey. But overall, it was a great dinner and everyone was really nice.

Visited this restaurant while visiting Seattle and we liked it so much we came twice. The restaurant was spacious and there were plenty of tables. We made a reservation both times for 5:30, and while there were extra free tables when we showed up it started getting really busy by the time we left. The servers were friendly and attentive. To order you scan a QR code and can continuing ordering multiple rounds of food and drinks as you want them which was very nice. We primarily ordered momo, mune, wagyu, and unagi skewers which were all phenomenal. I also loved the seaweed salad and tamago. Rice was perfectly done and fresh. Kirin on draft was also a treat. Please note this restaurant clearly states they cannot do gluten free.

    Shishito peppers. These were yummy!

My husband and I were quite excited to try this place because it's a new experience for us. When we waited in, we were greeted and sat. They didn't offer the AYCE option. We had to ask and they gave us the menu for it. I would've appreciated a bit more explanation of the ordering process. I had to ask a few questions before we got going on ordering. - SERVICE - 3/5 Basically - we get 90 minutes to eat. Theres 3 sections. The top and bottom are unlimited and some cost extra. You can order however many items you want from them. They limit on the middle section where the skewers are. We were allowed to order up to 6 (total) skewers at a time. 6! (It takes about 2 bites to finish a skewer). They waited until you've eaten all 6 skewers before putting in your next order. They brought the food out quick once it was done grilling, but I would've also liked it if they explained which ones they were. They just print out the order and strike off which one they brought. We had to get up and look at it because it was turned upside down. - FOOD - 3/5 We tried most of the meats. It's basic grilled meat on a stick with salt or a sauce on the side. Some were dry (chicken breast). Some were great (waygu for an additional cost, shishito peppers, and the chicken thighs). But, toward the end, we just came to the conclusion that the chicken thighs were the best thing on the menu. We did a few orders of just chicken thighs and left. I'd say, prob never again for us. It's too expensive for us and what you get. But if you like to experience it, go for it.

My husband and I came here on a Thursday night with a reservation from Yelp. We got seated right away, but the place was pretty empty. Service, though, was a bit of a letdown. Waitstaff were just hanging around, and it took a bit of waving and waiting to get menus. The food, however, was fantastic. The prime beef tendon was incredibly tender and tasty--definitely my favorite. The beef udon was a lifesaver since I was feeling sick; it was really savory and comforting. We did the unlimited yakitori, which was $35.99 per person. It was great for trying a bit of everything. The restaurant is pretty big, which is nice. I'd definitely come back if I'm ever in Seattle again, but I hope they work on their service because the food is really worth it.

We came here for their AYCE on a Saturday. Somehow my reservation made via yelp went missing when we arrived to check in for our reservation. It was fine though since we came late and we were able to grab a table shortly. The ordering was a bit weird, the AYCE menu has to be ordered via the servers and anything outside e.g. drinks, they seem to prefer us ordering via the app. Regardless, we started with some appies and I really liked the Goma tofu and the tomagoyaki. For the skewers, my favoritea are the prime beef tendon and the miso beef. Unfortunately the pork neck was unavailable so we didn't get to try that. Overall we really enjoyed the AYCE and will be back for more when we are in town again :)

Came here to try it while I was in town but mostly because I was craving creamy udon and saw this Shinya Shokudo had it and my goodness f they did not disappoint! We walked in and were quickly seated. The women brought us water right away which I appreciated because we had walked to the restaurant. The inside was also super authentic in their Japanese decorations. It was stunning and inviting. As someone who has been to Japan before; I really appreciated the aesthetic! We ordered two drinks, a the Yuzu Mojito and the Strawberry Gin. The drinks were tasty but not at all strong.. we also ordered the Mentaiko Creamy Udon, the Oyakodon and Yakitori which we didn't know was chicken liver and other kinds of meats; the waiter came back and asked us if we were sure we wanted it and we responded "absolutely!" We love trying new things! The Mantaiko Creamy Udon was the perfect balance of flavor with cream and subtly hints of sake in it, it was heavenly! The oyakodon was cooked perfect, there was a perfect hint of bonito in it that put it over the top, not to mention the rice was cooked absolutely perfect! The yakitori was good, had good flavor and was cooked perfectly even though the meats were all different. The drinks were all well flavored and kind of strong lol Just over all a great place 10 out of 10!!
